PoliticsAfenifere Passes Vote Of No Confidence On Jega, rejected Extra 30,000 Polling by argon500(op): 1:05pm On Sep 10, 2014
A pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Tuesday, rejected the creation of additional 30,000 polling units by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
They also passed “a vote of no confidence” on the Chairman of the Commission Professor Attahiru Jega, over his ability to conduct a free and fair election next year.
In a meeting in Akure, the country home of their National Chairman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the group in a communiqué kicked against the lopsidedness of the electoral umpire in the allocation of polling units to geo-political zones in the country.
Spokesman of the group, Yinka Odumakin, who read the communiqué to newsmen after the meeting said, “the imbalance in the distribution was unacceptable.”
Leaders at the meeting included Minister of Police Affairs, Mr. Jelili Adesiyan, Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, former governors of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Chief Segun Osoba, Chiefs Reuben Fasoranti, Olu Falae and Ayo Adebanjo.
Others were Mr. Jimi Agbaje, Sir Michael Koleoso, Chief Kole Omololu, Senator Gbenga Kaka, Professor Akin Onigbinde, Mr. Sina Kawonise, Mr. Segun Ojo, Mr. Tunde Oladapo and Chief Korede Duyile.
Odumakin said: “The meeting took decision on the 30,000 newly created polling unit announced by INEC, and condemned the whole exercise as skewed, in that 21, 000 were allocated to the Northern part of Nigeria, while 8,000 was allocated to the South.
“We found it very curious, for instance, we don’t understand the democratic abracadabra that allowed the Northwest, just one zone in the North, was allocated 9, 906 polling units while the entire South of Nigeria was allocated 8,000 polling units.
“A war ravaged Northeast where people are fleeing was allocated 5, 201 new polling units while the entire South West which is brimming with people, is allocated only 4, 160 additional polling units. The entire South East of Nigeria was allocated 1, 166 new units while FCT alone was allocated 1, 200 units. We do not know of any country in the world where you would change electoral law one year to the election, not to talk of creating additional polling units six months to the election.
“We don’t understand while war-torn areas are now having more polling units than peaceful areas. And more important, how does Jega want to migrate voters who have been given Permanent Voters Cards with existing codes in existing units with the new polling units which had just been created.
“We see the whole exercise as attempt to create rigging at source where 500 votes will return to the units where it was created and more important you create an election dominant manual that Nigerians will continue to fight as we are now fighting lopsidedness we see at House of Representatives and Senate today.
“To this end we reject it in its entirety and we are saying it now. We pass a vote of no confidence in Jega’s capacity to conduct free and fair and credible election if these additional units are not cancelled immediately."

Romance11 Differences Between Dating A Boy Vs A Man by argon500(op): 12:20pm On Sep 09, 2014
If you are a girl (lack independence, are ruled by insecurity, lack self-respect, throw tantrums, have princess syndrome, don’t have strong values or boundaries and can’t hold yourself on your own) then expect that you will attract only boys. However, if you are a woman (independent, ambitious, knows your worth and value, has a strong moral compass, is considerate and an able communicator and doesn’t let insecurity dominate your psyche), then you should be dating a man. And if you can’t spot the difference just yet, here are some pointers.

1. A man knows what he wants, and goes for it. A boy may have somewhat of an idea, but not really. He doesn’t think too much about it, and even if he does, doesn’t exert much effort to get it. A boy is passive, a man is assertive.

2. A man plans for his future and is working towards building a foundation and infrastructure in order to have a family (at some point in his life) or another purpose or passion. A boy lives only in the moment and his plans are mostly around which bar he’s going to hit up on the weekend.

3. A man looks for a woman with intelligence, who is supportive, grounded and encompasses a shared set of values when choosing a partner. A boy cares mostly only for girls who are hot, wild and exciting.

4. A man knows a good woman when he meets one and will take initiative to get to know her. A boy may make an attempt if you’re lucky, but gives up before ever really trying.

5. A man has the courage to have uncomfortable conversations. He is honest with his intentions and lets people know where they stand. A boy avoids. He ignores confrontation or any serious talks about feelings. Instead of dealing with a situation, he runs away from it or creates drama or excuses to mask the fact he’s not that into you or a relationship.

6. A man knows when to invest in a woman and jump in with two feet. A boy is always “testing” – he doesn’t fully commit because he never knows if he is quite ready. But the truth is, because he is a boy, regardless of who he meets, he will never be ready due to the stage of life he is in.

7. A man knows how to have a good time and be social, but is often busy making strides in his career and building his life. A boy is getting crunk with his buddies at the bar every weekend.

8. A man takes the time to reflect on the type of man he wants to be, the example he wants to leave and the vision for his life. He has put thought into his values. A boy has not established his moral compass or values and consequently, is often inconsistent.

9. A man has integrity. He means what he says, and says what he means. He has follow through and actions his promises. And if he can’t he has the guts to tell you why. A boy makes promises but doesn’t follow through.

10. A man is afraid of rejection but will put himself out there anyway. A boy is afraid of rejection and acts passive so that his pride and ego won’t ever get too banged up.

Now, a lot of these differences require taking the time to know someone to figure out if the apple of your eye is indeed a man, or a mere boy. However, one of the quickest filters that you can notice from the beginning is this:

11. A boy plays games. A man doesn’t.

*To clarify, when I’m referring to “games” I mean mind games.
RomanceDo You Share Deep, Dark Secrets With Your Partner? by argon500(op): 11:52am On Sep 09, 2014
According to the Oxford dictionary, a secret is something that is “not meant to be known as such by others.”

Being honest with each other doesn't mean you must share every single thought, dream, fear, or fantasy with your partner. Honesty may be a double-edge sword in your relationship. Knowing what to share and what not to share is an important communication skill for couples to learn and use in their marriage.

Here comes the question, do you share deep, dark secrets with your partner?
PoliticsI’ll Support Other Parties To Unseat Amosun -daniel by argon500(op): 8:47pm On Sep 08, 2014
A former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has said that he will work with other political parties to unseat the incumbent governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, in the 2015 governorship election.
He siad this on Sunday while addressing members of Labour Party in the state during a rally in Odeda local government area, Abeokuta.
He said, “If you hear that we are holding any political meeting, the aim is how to unseat the incumbent administration in 2015. I will work with other political parties to achieve the objective.”
Daniel was optimistic that the South-West would support President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term bid.
He added that Jonathan would win all the states in the South-West geo-political zone if he agrees to contest in 2015.
Daniel, however, noted that those trying to discredit Jonathan’s achievements some few months to the election were doing so in futility.
He said, “I have been clamouring about President Goodluck Jonathan. With what is on ground, have you seen anything different? Who is ready to face him in presidential contest? Election is about five months.
“They claimed he cannot do it. Yet, from deputy governor, he became the governor. From there, he became the vice president. He became president the first time and they said it was through doctrine of necessity. We did the 2011 election and he became president.
“When he now wants to seek a second term of office, opposition are saying he cannot do it. Don’t let them deceive you: this one is a walkover for Goodluck Jonathan. When it is 2019, we will sit down again and decide on the next game to play.
“The support for President Goodluck Jonathan, not just in Ogun State, but in the entire South West is non-negotiable and I trust that all of you without any exception will support us as we play the next game.”

PoliticsBoko Haram: Victims Recount Ordeal, Insurgents Warn Against Burial Of The Dead by argon500(op): 8:40pm On Sep 08, 2014
Musa Mohammed, a displaced man from Bama town which was taken over by the Boko Haram insurgents on September 1st today said he was yet to see his two wives and 12 children.

Mohammed, who spoke to our correspondents at the NYSC orientation camp, where thousands of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) are camped, said he could not sleep in the past one week because he was not certain about the condition of his family.

“I am in pain, I am sick…in fact, I am confused because I don’t know whether my family are dead or kidnapped. This is because, since over a week ago, I did not see any of my two wives while only one out of my 13 children has been found.

“I am only a living but have lost my composure and apetite, I find it difficult to eat despite the fact that the Borno State government and NEMA are really taking care of us.

“My prayer is, may the Almighty rescue my family because I don’t know what life would look like if I didn’t see them again. I am appealing to the Federal Government of Nigeria and well meaning government all over the world to come to our rescue,” Mohammed said.

His appeal came in the wake of mass influx of people into Maiduguri, the state capital, following waves of attacks in some major towns in the state and fear of attacks in surrounding villages and settlements.

Hajja Kalthum who fled from Darul-Jamal, a community in the outskirt of Bama said she and many of her family members escaped death by the whiskers.

“On the first day of the attack on Bama, the insurgents started shooting from our village and we all scampered for safety. It was after five days that I saw my three daughters and eight grand children in Maiduguri.

“This is because, when I fled Darul-Jamal, I took refuge in Bama, thinking that it was safe. Sadly, we were trapped there for the next five days after the insurgents took over the town. They were firing heavy guns as if the sky will collapse.

“It was a nasty experience indeed. I saw many dead bodies of young men decomposing on the streets.

“The gunmen warned the elderly men in the Bama not to bury any of the dead bodies. They warned of drastic punishment if their orders are not respected. Until the day we fled, the bodies are still there,” she said.

Our correspondents saw thousands of women at Mai Musari Primary School along Bama who are being evacuated to other camps because of congestion and lack of sanitary facilities.

Hundreds of IDPs who reportedly fled their homes in Bama, Konduga, Kawuri, Kayamla, Dikwa, Mafa, Limanti, Gowom, Damboa, Dalwa, among others were also seen at Yerwa Girls Secondary School, Sanda Kyarimi Secondary School and other resettlement locations.

Many others from Gamboru Ngala were also seen at Goni Kachallari Primary School.

Ya Bintu, an elderly woman who fled from Bama said she was trapped in her house for six days before she could escape to Maiduguri.

“The good story is that they (Boko Haram) didn’t touch me or any of the dozens of people that took refuge in my house, despite the fact that every day, they would come around and ask if there is any young girl. On every occasion, I kept telling that there is no young girl.

“I summoned courage and hid many young girls in the house and Alhamdu Lillah, we all escaped when after about five days, I noticed the way the insurgents were operating,” Ya Bintu said.

Asked how they were operating, she said, “They normally come around 6am on their motorcycles, normally from the direction of Gwoza. They would stay in Bama till sunset. They would then mobilize themselves, fire gunshots into the air severally before they would leave.

“They told us, mostly elderly men, women and children not to worry, assuring that they would not harm us. But honestly speaking, I never trusted them because they have killed many prosperous men in Bama.

“As such, when the opportunity for us to escape availed itself, we used it wisely when we took to the bushes on Friday night after the insurgents had left. We trekked for a long distance until we reached Kawuri where soldiers had a station. We saw many of them and they assisted us by bringing us to Maiduguri,” she said.

Soldiers still in Konduga, not Bama

Meanwhile, hundreds of soldiers have been stationed in Konduga town, 35 kilometers south –east of Maiduguri in order to protect alleged planned invasion into Maiduguri by the insurgents.

Sources said the soldiers were taken to Konduga after ground operation and aerial reconnaissance on Saturday led to the killing of over 50 suspected Boko Haram insurgents at Kawuri.

Witnesses and security operatives said the soldiers were patrolling Konduga and neighboring villages in order to secure them.

“For now, a lot of operation has taken place in Bama but the town is still not safe,” a soldier, who craved for anonymity, said.

He said after the fierce but successful encounter in Kawuri, troops are strategizing on how to rescue Bama from the clutches of the insurgents.

Our correspondents report that some fighter jets were seen today and at night on Sunday, passing through the skies in Maiduguri and heading towards south-east of Maiduguri.

PoliticsDavis Revelations: Nigerians’ll Hear From Us Soon — Boko Haram by argon500(op): 10:18am On Sep 08, 2014
More stunning revelations on the relationship among Boko Haram, the government and the Australian negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davis, may be unveiled by the sect’s leadership this week.
The move, according to a source close to the sect, is to put the record straight and clear the air on several controversial issues contained in the interview by the Australian to the media last week.
Vanguard source said last night that the leadership of Boko Haram was upset by most of the claims made by the negotiator and was set to make a categorical position on all the issues raised by Davis in the media.
“Nigerians will soon hear from the sect leadership concerning all the issues raised by the negotiator, who, in any case was not hired by the Federal Government to dialogue with the group.
“In fact, what the man has said has really infuriated the sect leadership and they are unhappy with him,” the Nigerian negotiator said.
“As far as the sect leadership is concerned, Davis is being used by some politicians to score some points and they are ready to clear the air on the issues.

PoliticsEFCC Declares Bauchi Guber Aspirant Wanted For $.5m Scam by argon500(op): 1:33pm On Sep 07, 2014
A gubernatorial aspirant in Bauchi State, Abdulahi Usman Adamu, alias Dan China, has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The politician cum miner is wanted by the anti-graft agency for allegedly obtaining the sum of $500,000 USD (Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) from a Chinese Company, Shengjia International (HK) Limited, by false pretence. The suspect allegedly obtained the sum from the Chinese firm as part payment for the supply of 3000MT of Lead Ore, a contract he failed to execute.

Following a petition by the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, the EFCC invited the suspect for questioning but he failed to honour the invitation. The suspect is currently on the run as efforts to track him, including several visits to his home in Narabi, Bauchi, proved futile.

Consequently, the Commission enjoins any one with useful information on his whereabouts to contact its head office inWuse 2, Abuja or zonal offices in Gombe, Kano, Enugu, Port Harcourt and Lagos; or the nearest police station.

His last known address is No. 1 Sabon Gari, Narabi, in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi state.

In the same vein, a banker, Godswill Oyegwa Oyoyou, an Information Technology staff of a new generation bank is also wanted by the EFCC in a case of fraud involving N6.28billion.

Godswill allegedly conspired with some scammers and obtained the sum of N6.28Billion (Six Billion and Twenty-Eight Million Naira) from his bank after hacking into the bank’s database. The 38-year- old is from Isoko South local government area of Delta State.

PoliticsAdamawa Election: Acting Governor Fintiri Wins PDP Primary by argon500(op): 10:48am On Sep 07, 2014
The Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has emerged the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for the October 11 governorship election in the state.

Mr. Fintiri defeated other aspirants in the primary election held in Yola, the state capital, on Saturday. In an intense election which lasted up to the early hours of Sunday, Mr. Fintiri won the primaries with 624 votes. The current Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, came second with 197 votes. A former Lagos and Borno military administrator, Buba Marwa, got 54 votes, while Umar Ardo, and a member of the State Assembly, Jerry Kumdiisi, scored 9 and 4 votes respectively.

There were also 23 invalid votes. The results were declared by the chairman of the primary and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole at about 4: 03 a.m. Mr. Fintiri’s emergence was expected after eight of the aspirants who had withdrawn from the primary election declared support for him.

The eight aspirants include a former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nuhu Ribadu, as well as Awwal Tukur, Idi Hong, Aliyu Kama, Markus Gundiri, Andrawus Sawa, Halilu Gire, and James Barka. They had after a meeting with Senate President, David Mark, early on Friday stepped down from the race after it was agreed that the Adamawa northern senatorial zone should produce the governor in the coming bye-election, while the position would be zoned to the central zone in 2015. The aspirants said they supported Mr. Fintiri after he agreed not to contest the primaries of the party for the February 2015 governorship election. -

PoliticsPDP Wins All Chairmanship And Councillorship Seats In Katsina by argon500(op): 10:27am On Sep 07, 2014
The much-talked about Katsina State local government election held yesterday with little contest, after all.
The ruling party in the state, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was the only strong contestant in the race as the main opposition party, All Progressives Congress, APC, boycotted the election.
In essence, the PDP cleared all the chairmanship and councilloship seats contested in the poll. All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, ACPN, PPA and two other parties participated in the election. In virtually in all the local government areas, there was large turnout of voters, especially women.
There was the usual restriction of movement as all entry points to the state were shut.
As early as 9am, electoral officials were already seated expecting voters to start casting their votes. Exactly 10.10 a.m. the state governor, Barrister Ibrahim Shehu Shema, was at T.V Centre, Dutsin-ma where he cast his vote.
While fielding questions from journalists thereafter, Shema said the PDP remained the party to beat in Katsina, explaining that he would have loved his party (PDP) to contest the election with all the parties, particularly APC, in the state, but it was obvious that the parties were not on ground.
He said: “The state electoral body fixed the price of forms at N250,000 for the office of chairman,N100,000 for that of councillor. The opposition parties complained that the money was too high. The body slashed it by 50 per cent, yet they could not pay. The electoral body gave 30 days notice for submission of forms. They complained that it was too early. It gave them another 30 days grace, yet they complained before they were given another 35 days grace. It was after this that they sought refuge in the judiciary by asking to stop the election. They went to the Federal High Court in Abuja before returning to Katsina High Court, both of which turned down their request.
“The only sensible thing to do next is to conduct the election which we have all seen to be transparent, fair and credible. Once the electoral body announces the results, the winners would be sworn-in the first working day of the week.
“I won’t delay the implementation of the peoples will. We are sure of winning this election, not because the party is in power but because we have met and still meeting the aspirations of our people. This state is the only state in the country that has been in the hands of the PDP almost 100”.

The first day I listened to DJ Khaled song featuring Kanye and Rick Ross, I was really touched by the title of the song. Most of us believe in God for so many things but does God really believe in us?

People are God’s finest creation ever, the one He is the most proud of.. Sounds pretty promising, doesn’t it? Yeah, it does. But think a little bit. God has made the man to rule the world, to be on the top of the hierarchy – above anything else. He has taken care about His precious people, helping them through their lives.

But see how it is now – people being murdered, robbed, kidnapped every day… God’s favorite creatures suffering every single day because of others of their kind. We are all supposed be one happy big family which God looks after. But where is He now, huh?

Some people praise Him every day, they pray for their and other’s sake. They pray for love, happiness, peace. But it kind of seems that neither of these actually get to God. Or if they do, He can’t /doesn’t want to/ do anything about it.

Our politicians belongs to one faith or the other. Majority of them are either Muslims or Christians. Those that are Muslims pray almost 5 times in a day and visit Jumat every Friday while the Christians do go to church every Sunday. But do that change anything? Does it mean they are pretenders or simply hypocrite

PoliticsAdamawa Governorship Race: Ribadu, Seven Others "Forced" To Step Down by argon500(op): 5:59pm On Sep 05, 2014
Eight out of the fourteen aspirants for the Adamawa State Governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Nuhu Ribadu, have stepped down.

They stepped down from the race in the early hours of Friday after a marathon closed-door meeting with the Senate President, David Mark, at the Presidential Villa.

Following the impeachment of the former Governor, Murtala Nyako, October 11 was fixed for the election of a substantive governor for the state.

The Senate President, alongside the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in Abuja, had intervened to forestall looming crisis ahead of the party’s primary election scheduled to hold on Saturday in the state.

The meeting with the aspirants, which lasted about four hours, started by 9.06 p.m on Thursday and ended around 1.00 a.m on Friday. It was held at the Banquet Hall of the State House.

At the meeting, it was gathered that Mr. Mark, alongside other officials of the party, were able to reach a consensus with the aspirants and succeeded in pruning down the number of those contesting from fourteen to six.

The six aspirants still in the race for the party’s governorship ticket on Saturday are Ahmed Gulak, Buba Marwa, Ahmed Modibbo, Umar Ardo, Acting Governor Umaru Fintiri, and Jerry Kumdisi.

Those who have withdrawn from the race include Nuhu Ribadu; Auwal Tukur; Aliyu Idi Hong, Andrawus Sawa; James Barka; GAliyu Kama; Markus Gundiri and Abubakar Girei.
It was gathered that an agreement was reached at the closed-door meeting that the six aspirants contesting for the party’s ticket on Saturday will not contest for the position in 2015.

The meeting also agreed that only those who agreed to step down now can contest for the party’s governorship election ticket in 2015, with more consideration in 2015 for Adamawa Central that has never produced a governor.

It was also agreed that any aspirant who fails to win the party’s ticket in Saturday’s primary election must support the party’s flag-bearer towards the October 11 election. ‎

Speaking with journalists at the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Adamawa State chapter of the party, Joel Madaki said, “Fourteen aspirants contesting for the position earlier has now reduced to six aspirants due to this meeting. It is a very welcome idea. Nobody was forced to step them. Those who stepped down did so voluntarily in order to wait to contest for the position in 2015″.

He added that “The six aspirants contesting this election are Ahmed Gulak, Buba Marwa, Ahmed Modibbo, Dr. Umar Ardo, Acting Governor Umaru Fintiri, and Jerry Kumdisi.”

The former Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Ahmed Gulak, who is also contesting for the ticket on Saturday, said “The outcome of the meeting was fantastic. We met as family members of PDP, even before coming here all the aspirants in Adamawa have unanimously resolved that after the primaries, in a free, fair primaries, anybody that emerges will get our support.”

“Today, in this meeting, the number of the aspirants have been drastically reduced to six, which is manageable. I am contesting, Gen. Marwa is contesting, Ahmed Modibbo is contesting, Dr. Umar Ardo is contesting, Hon. Jerry Kumdisi is contesting, and Acting Governor Fintiri is contesting.

“And we have resolved to go into the primaries without rancour, without acrimony and to come out of it as peaceful co-existing members.”

“And at the end of it all, anybody that emerges, we will all queue behind him. And if I emerge as the candidate, they will all queue behind me. It is going to be a family affair and there will be no losers.”

On his chances of getting the ticket as Mr. Ribadu and others were now out of the race, he said: “Nuhu Ribadu or not, you know, I prepared for this election. Even, if 14 of us are going into this election, I am confident of my ability, of my capability, of my mobilization, of my sensitization that the delegates will select me.”

Aliyu Idi Hong, who is among those who withdrew from the race, said: “Peace-building, negotiation, give-and-take, everything went well. We have been given a caveat and one thing we have succeeded in extracting from this meeting is that the meeting started with a preamble that whoever is going to contest and if he happens to win as a governor, he will not have the right to contest the 2015 election.”

“Some of us think that our aspirations, our ambition, our vision for Adamawa is a long term and more articulate vision and not a stop-gap six”.

PoliticsFloods Chased Boko Haram Out Of Sambisa Forest by argon500(op): 5:50pm On Sep 05, 2014
Boko Haram terrorists have been moving fast, conquering towns across Borno state; but their action may not be simply what it appears and has nothing to do with establishing a so-called Caliphate as they said, copying a page from ISIS.

According to details from Borno, the reason Boko Haram has been forced out of Sambisa forest is due to the current rainy season flooding taking place in the forest.

Rains arrived late this year and there have been heavy downpours causing significant flooding. Sambisa forest has come under severe flooding making life impossible for the terrorists who used to camp comfortably in tents with generators and fridges in this and other jungles.

Over 200 girls were abducted in April this year adding to hundreds of Nigerian men and women abducted by the terrorists. Some of these abductees would have also been moved into captured towns, out of the flooded forests.

The Nigerian military and Civilian-JTF are expected to be taking advantage of this forced tactical change to combat the terrorists. We hope.
