CrimeMan Proposed With Ring From Woman He Killed by Aringarosa(op): 8:57pm On Nov 11, 2011
CHICAGO (Reuters) - A felon out on parole in Chicago beat an elderly woman to death last month, stole her engagement and wedding rings and then used them to propose to his girlfriend, prosecutors said on Thursday.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office said Raymond Harris, 36, showed off Virginia Perillo's engagement and wedding rings at a party just hours after an attack that left her unconscious and bleeding in her southside garage.

Perillo, 73, was rushed to a hospital and declared brain dead. She died two days later.

According to prosecutors, Harris asked friends at the party which of the two rings he should present when he asked his girlfriend to marry him. They said he wound up giving her both when he proposed a week later.

Investigators identified Harris, who was paroled in May after serving 13 years of a 30-year sentence for attempted murder and aggravated arson, as a suspect in Perillo's slaying after they found a bloody watch in her car.

Tests showed a match with Harris' DNA, which was in a law enforcement database.

His fiance subsequently turned the rings over to police.

Harris was charged with murder and armed robbery in Perillo's death. He is being held without bail.

In 1997, just weeks after he was released from jail on an armed robbery conviction, Harris invaded the home of a woman, beating and raping her repeatedly over several hours, prosecutors said.

Harris then slit the victim's throat, knocked her unconscious and set her house on fire. The woman woke up with her legs in flames and suffered third-degree burns but survived.

PoliticsWhat Will Become Of Our Politicians If This Idea Is Implemented? by Aringarosa(op): 9:40pm On Nov 08, 2011
My idea is to connect a lie detector to an electric shock device and hook it up to the politicians. During all public meetings the device would be turned on. An electric shock would be administered every time a lie was told, the intensity of the shock would be proportional to the magnitude of the lie. My guess is that the local government chairmen,  Governors, Reps, Senators, and the rest of them including Mr President would electrocute themselves within a day. . .

Folks what do you think of this idea. . . ?

Jokes EtcWhat Do We Tell Them For Christmas? by Aringarosa(op): 3:38pm On Nov 07, 2011
An elderly man in Nigeria calls his son in New York and says, “I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough.”

“Dad, what are you talking about?” the son screams.

“We can’t stand the sight of each other any longer,” the old man says. “We’re sick of each other, and I’m sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in UK and tell her,” and he hangs up.

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. “They’re not getting divorced if I have anything to do about it,” she shouts, “I’ll take care of this.”

She calls Nigeria immediately, and screams at the old man, “You are NOT getting divorced. Don’t do a single thing until I get there. I’m calling my brother back, and we’ll both be there soon. Until then, don’t do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?” and hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife and says, “Okay, they’re coming for Ileya. . . now what do we tell them for Christmas?”

PoliticsRe: Us: Bomb Attacks Possible In Nigeria Capital by Aringarosa(m): 8:55pm On Nov 06, 2011
LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — A radical Muslim sect responsible for attacks that left more than 100 people dead in northeast Nigeria this week could bomb three luxury hotels frequented by foreigners in the oil-rich nation's capital, the U.S. Embassy warned Sunday.

The unusually specific warning from U.S. diplomats identified possible targets of the sect known locally as Boko Haram as the Hilton, Nicon Luxury and Sheraton hotels. Those hotels draw diplomats, politicians and Nigeria's business elite daily in the country's central capital of Abuja.
The embassy said the attack may come as Nigeria celebrates the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha and that its diplomats and staff had been instructed to avoid those hotels.
Moderator, i think this should be on the front page, to inform as much people as possible.

Foreign AffairsMubarak’s Sons Have $340m Assets In Switzerland’ by Aringarosa(op): 7:35pm On Nov 04, 2011
Cairo – The lawyer of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Mr. Farid Al-Deeb, has admitted that Mubarak's sons Alaa and Gamal have assets worth 340 million dollars in Switzerland.

In a magazine interview culled by the local media on Thursday, Deeb said the amount of money belonging to Mubarak's sons, announced on Oct. 17 by Egypt’s Illicit Gains Authority, was correct.

Deeb argued, however, that the assets are legal.

He also said the former Egyptian president and his wife do not own a single dollar inside or outside Egypt, pointing out that the Illicit Gains Authority’s numbers concerning money owned abroad by Mubarak and his wife is false.

The lawyer said the total funds owned by the two in Egyptian banks do not exceed six million Egyptian pounds (one million dollars).

Mubarak and his sons have been charged with corruption, and all three are under arrest, but his

wife has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Egypt’s attorney general froze the assets of the former president's family on Feb. 20, nine days after he was forced to stepped down by revolutionaries.

Mubarak is also facing charges of complicity in the killing of hundreds of revolution protesters. (PANA/NAN)

Kim Kardashian Speaks Out On Her Failed Marriage: "I Got Caught Up With the Hoopla"

One day after she filed for divorce from Kris Humphries, her husband of 72 days, and left the country on a business trip, Kim Kardashian is making sure she tells her side of the story.

“I am trying not to read all the different media reports but it’s hard not to see all the negative ones,” Kardashian tweeted on Tuesday. “First and foremost, I married for love. I can’t believe I even have to defend this. I would not have spent so much time on something just for a TV show!”
She says that sharing the wedding with fans on E!’s two part wedding special in early October is just part of who she is and how the Kardashian family chooses to conduct their lives.

“We filmed Kourtney giving birth, Khloe getting married, break ups, make ups, our best moments and our worst moments,” she writes. “These were all real moments. That’s what makes us who we are. We share, we give, we love and we are open!”
She then goes on to describe the “rollercoaster” she was on as the wedding approached and expresses regret for not ending the relationship sooner.
“I got caught up with the hoopla and the filming of the TV show that when I probably should have ended my relationship, I didn’t know how to,” she reveals. “And didn’t want to disappoint a lot of people.”

Kardashian then ends her statement by saying that reports that she made millions off of her wedding are “simpy not true” and announced that she will be donating the money from her wedding gifts to the Dream Foundation.

Hmmmm. . . . I think the poster is quite right, but it's not all Ethiopians who has such perceptions. To buttress my point, i 'm presently in Ethiopia for a research program. I am a little bit light skin, most Ethiopians always assume that i am one of them, only to found out that i am not Habesha. They are often amazed that sub-Sahara African can be fair in complexion. They always ask me if i feel better that most people mistakes me for an Ethiopian. Most of them don't consider themselves as an African, they only claim Africa when it suits them, but the category of people who feels this way are people who has little or no knowledge of the outside world, mostly Uneducated.

Other category of Ethiopians i come across, that is the Educated ones are generally cool, polite, and friendly. They see themselves as Africans and are proud of their cultural heritage.
