we then have the microbiology, biological sciences and biochemistry. which are pure sciences.

one thing most of you out there don't know is that SLT is runned now in the university and they are well grounded.

again another thing is that SLT has other departments which cuts across engineering, agriculture, environment etc. one who did SLT physics is not eligible and cannot work in the medical area because that is not his field and scope. so know this.

SLT in my school is under Pure Sciences.

For you information let me educate you. slt are scientists and technologists as well as technicians depending on your level of education. I should also let you know that MLS is in no way superior to slt as you claim because slt have a broader coverage area than you guys.

now let's get to action. while you term yourself as a scientist we slt are known as chartered scientists. If you want proof then bring your licence out here while I bring mine.
Also note that you as an MLS is only restricted to only the medical area and arm of science but an slt biomedical goes beyond only the medical. they explore in full more than your scope.

MLS is NOT related to SLT from SCHOOL to WORKING PLACE.
i don't have any problem with SLT.
my problem lies when you guys say you can RUN a MEDICAL LABORATORY or work as a Medical Laboratory Scientist because you did a CRASH course in BASIC Medicals.that is an abomination in the face of the LAW.it is not in your licence and the Act establishing NISLT.
SLT are gods in Industrial Laboratories and other Laboratories but NOT Medical Laboratory because LIFE is INVOLVED.
SLT don't have any Medical Specialization(if you guys have please let me know).

like we all did clinical sciences/ basic medical sciences and pharmacology doesn't makes us medical doctors. we all did same courses but our profession makes us different.

So doing same course does not warrant you to practice as a doctor so likewise doing med bch Nd mcb doesn't warrant you guys to take over their duties.

Let me Educate you.MLS has five(5) specialization.
1.Haematology
2.Chemical Pathology/Clinical chemistry/Clinical Biochemical/Medical biochemistry
3.Medical Microbiology
4.Immunology
5.Histopathology
In these specialization,you will be GOUNDED in all of them before specializing.i am not talking about doing a CRASH COURSE for a semester then go on to do other things.i am talking about taking courses from each specialty.
From 2nd year down to Final year,We take Different Courses From These Department/section/unit.Then a BASIC PHARMACOLOGY just Enough to cover what we need to know as MLS.Then other crash courses.BCH and MCB know little to nothing about Medical Biochemistry/Microbiology.why? because they have other areas they have to cover.they DON'T go deep.
NB.MLS is not studying BCH or MCB but the MEDICAL Part of it From 2nd year to Final Year.With the PRACTICALS,POSTINGS,INTERNSHIP.
Life is involved you MUST be licensed.

Everything is special about it that is why you are having tachycardia over it. If you want to work as a Medical Laboratory Scientist,you must possess B.MLS and a current license.you working in the Government Hospital is no big deal(if its *true) but not as a MLSt. MLS can never stop you from earning what you deserve.

There is a big difference between MLS and SLT.
MLS is a field that specialises more on just running SOP already developed in just o my the medical field. they are well licenced to practice in Nigeria. MLS is a small part of biomedical science.

SLT on the other hand is a field integrated in all science areas from agriculture to medicine to engineering and environmental.

Anywhere there is a lab SLT is there to lead it. they are scientist whose duties goes from not just following SOP but carrying out intensive research to improve all field of science and technology.


Medical doctors who are fully involved in research are also scientists same as biochemist,biologists, chemists and even engineers.

medical microbiology and biochemistry graduates can work in the hospital labs. infact MLS are not certified to do microbiology and biochemistry tests in the hospitals. it is not part of their curriculum. they are only proud now because BCH and MCB graduates and professors refuse to spend money to get an act to practice to the fullest. so MLS should know they cover a little scope of biomedical and should maintain that level.

I am a proud biomedical technologist, scientist and also an engineer. As a Biomedical scientist we are involved in DNA, forensics, finger printing to mention a few but MLS is mainly on haematology and few other areas such as parasitology and little mcb.

I am proud to be an SLT biomedical graduate.

MLS only follows SOP and you guys carry out research��.So MLS in virology and other research Laboratory in Nigeria are doing what there .Apart from Nigeria and some countries in Africa tell me where your SLT is recognized.
Do you know in the UK,you can't say you are a Biomedical Scientist without been liscenced as such?.
Saying MedBCH and MedMCB is not in our curriculum shows you know absolutely nothing about MLS(get it and update yourself)

I graduated from UNIPORT in SSLT Biochemistry and chemistry technology.
after which i proceed to do my Msc in haematology and blood transfusion. I did not pass through DE or write jamb again to have a BMLS degree.
of course we all know that Msc degree is higher than BMLS degree. in which if i had studied medical lab in my first degree i wouldn't have known anything about how to work on a science lab.
now i can mount/ work so well in science laboratory area which a medical lab has no idea of. and i can also mount/work so well in medical laboratory area as an added advantage.
also i had both license.

Hahahaha,you have both license indeed.All of you that want to cut and join,well no problem.MSc is higher than B.MLS, but B.MLS is the prerequisite for licensing.if you like have Ph.D in whatever, you are still not a Medical Laboratory Scientist.So stop decieving people.I have so many SLT in my class and they are really happy and can sincerely tell you the difference between MLS and SLT is far too wide.

The Medical laboratory diagnosis was done at the Redeemer's university because they have a Virology laboratory with Biosafety facility to handle the specimen.

And the prof.Was the one that carried out the diagnosis/test?

Prof Christian Happi, a Professor of Molecular Biology (Not any MLS) carried out the laboratory test at the Virology laboratory, The Redeemer's university that confirmed the first cases of Ebola in Nigeria.

Did the prof.Carried out his research in a Medical Laboratory or a research Laboratory in Redeemer's University?.
i would really want You to give me one example where a virologist(not MLS) is working in a Medical Laboratory(like carrying out rountine test etal) not Research Lab in UCH.

Because the department is there doesn't mean they admit students directly to study chemical pathology.ChemPath is a Highly specialized field.
Just like in Faculty of Clinical Sciences,those Departments under the faculty don't admit students.
