@arinzos, does that means there won't be need for masters programme since MLS.D intends to cover specialization? And again after the MLS.D will one be address as DR. of MLS (as in Doctorate degree)? Thanks in anticipation and i hope my questions aren't too much.
Of course there will be Need for Masters and PhD if you so Wish. But it will be purely Academic(For Lecturers/Academic Researchers).
while the professional Specialization can be done by Anyone(MLSts) Interested. It will be done at the Post Graduate college of Medical Laboratory Sciences which will still involve Academic work as well as sharpening your Professional Skill.

MLS. D intends to bring some other Aspect of Laboratory Medicine then you build on it when you Further.
Yea, you will be Addressed as Doctor. Its your Right.

Zeeknow3245:
I don't understand the molecular testing concerning n-CoV19 , how is it done?. Concerning the specialities on MLS, do you guys really do your job speciality? I have also found what i like and that is Haematology. I have also seen that Medicine students who specialise in this chemical pathology, immunology, haematology,Virology, medical microbiology and parasitology. My question is what is the major difference between the speciality in medicine and medical laboratory science.
About Covid -19, i think MLSts carry out these Tests using PCR and other Methods that come as Test kits.
These Techniques will Detect the DNA/RNA of the virus after undergoing some Amplification. Also Serological Method could be Used(Not sure sha). But Molecular Method is Highly Specific and Sensitive to the Virus.

In Medical Laboratory Sciences Program, you will Go through all the Specialties and Sit for your First professional Exam.
Then Specialize in Final Yr in either one or Two Specialities and sit for your 2nd/Final Professional Exam.
During your Internship Program, you will Rotate in all the Specialties irrespective of where you Specialized.
The point is this, Specialization helps you to Narrow down your Research work in Final Year.
It won't Make you any Less than another person that Specializes in another aspect.
Because during Internship you will Pass through Every Aspect of Laboratory Medicine and Solidify all the aspect you Have Missed.
Specialization Doesn't Appear in your B.MLS.
You are a Medical Laboratory Scientist Simple!

Medical Students do some Aspect of Pathology and Move on to other things.
Pathology and MLS is almost the Same.
While MLS Look at the Diagnosis of Diseases and Technique/Method to Arrive at it. Doctors Look at ways to Apply and Manage these Diagnosis.

All for the benefit of the Patient.
Education / Re: Thread For Medical Laboratory Science Aspirants by arinzos(m): 3:06pm On Apr 27, 2020
FlordFlorez:
Please, I still don't get it. Is it that after the 6yrs one would be given MLS.D instead of B.MLS? Please put me through why we have to pass through additional 1yr when our salary can never equal that of MBBS.
Yes. After 6Years you will be Awarded with MLS. D.
Like i said, its all About Additional Knowledge in Diagnosis. There are so Many Areas that B.MLS curriculum is not touching. MLS. D curriculum covers these areas and More.
The issue of specialization will Stop under MLS.D.
Specialization will Now take Place Under our postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
The issue of Salary has Always been a bone of contention in Nigeria that sometimes i Feel ashamed. We call International Best Practices Only When it Favours Us.
What we should be Looking at is Relativity in Salaries amongst Health Workers.
As Far as the Health sector goes, Medical Doctors will always be Paid Higher. The problem we have in Nigeria is the ratio of Doctors Salary to Other Medical Professional.

The aim of MLS.D. programme is to Widen our Scope as Medical Laboratory Scientists. Equip us with New/Latest Techniques in arriving at Diagnosis and to See Laboratory Medicine Beyond the Bench.

Salary Equality isn't and will Never be the Reason for MLS. D Program.

I will Continue to Educate anyone that wants to Learn irrespective of the Motive.

Another question i have is how does the quota system affect admission ?because i read that every school has a fixed quota for inducting MLS students so why admit more than the fixed quota? And how does JUPEB students really affect people who merited the course scaling through the first year to the medical school?
The Quota is Actually for Admission into the programme and for Induction too.
It Checkmates Excess Admission and Graduates.
But Since this is Nigeria, Schools tend to Admit More than their Carry Capacity/Quota and this Makes it too Competitive. Thereby Making Survival of the Fittest the new Slogan of students.
Schools cannot Induct/Graduate more than her Quota.
The Reason for the quota is to control the Number of Graduates that will Flood the Labour Market.

For JUPEB/DE students, Every School has a particular Percentage for Them.
Its all based on individual Capacity. Nobody is better than the other. Whether through UTME or DE, just try your Best and you will scale through.

I heard from a friend, 100L Ambrose Ali Uni that the concil want to increase the programme years to 6. And the only reason he told me was that they wants to be answering Dr. I was dumb-founded. Please can u tell me more about it?
That is not the Reason.
Doctor of Medical Laboratory Sciences Curriculum will be robust with so Many Areas that are not Captured in this Current curriculum..
We believe in International Best Practices and the world is Moving very Fast. Nigeria can't be Left behind..
Doctor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS. D) Is not a Nigerian Thing. MLS in Ghana is 6Years.
So saying because we just want to Answer Doctors is Unfounded and Untrue.

Politics / Re: COVID-19: Can Africa Afford Lockdowns? - Charles Soludo by arinzos(m): 5:27pm On Apr 24, 2020
Soradex:
While I believe that Mr Soludo has a point(several in fact) with this piece, I have a question: Why now? Why not write this before Govt took the decision to lockdown? It is easy to wait for the outcome of certain actions and then proffer solutions and look like an expert than to actually get involved at the beginning. The Govt has tried. They acted. They did something. Maybe that should be reviewed now. However, Soludo should have written this at the beginning if he was such an expert. Siddon look and then become the sudden wise expert who knew the outcome from the beginning leaves one with a funny impression. Govt, however, need to review it's action. It's a real devil's alternative situation here. Whatever decision is taken has serious implications.
Either way, there are Consequences.
Since we have seen the consequence of the Lockdown why not try the Alternative for sometime too.
