Politics › Re: Fuel Vouchers: A Better Way To Subsidize Fuel? by Arosa(m): 9:52pm On Jan 09, 2012
Seun:
At first glance, that would seem like an obvious way to save money, but it's a big mistake.  What you're saying in essence is that if people are poor, you give them the vouchers, but if they work hard to get jobs and make more money, the vouchers will be taken away from them.  In essence, you're encouraging people to remain poor. It's important to help the poor, but it's also important not to punish them when they aspire for a better life by taking away their benefits.  Moreso, the problem of figuring out who is poor and who is not poor will be an avenue for corruption, so it's best to avoid it completely.  Vouchers worth the same amount would still benefit the poor much  more than the rich because the poor consume less fuel.
I understand what you are driving at, but I don't think anybody would want to remain poor cos of fuel vouchers. Poverty is not an envious status,  undecided

Op, that is a good idea, but I want to make an amendment to your proposal. The voucher should not be for all above 18, rather for poor Nigerian house hold only. that means a certification of poverty will be required for one to get a fuel voucher.  undecided

Politics › Re: Why Are Nigerians Afraid Of The Security Forces? by Arosa(m): 1:08pm On Jan 09, 2012
I thought the Nigerian security forces both army and police in active service combined sum up to about 500,000, and we are supposed to have about 25 million physically fit youths out of the civilian population of 150 million. If these 25 million capable youths decide to take up arms and hell bent on taking back the country from the selfish politacans, will the 500,000 security forces be able to stop them? The struggle will be over in just 2 days and the masses will have their country back and start afresh.
their is no unity in naija so it wont happen. undecided
A classic case of a lost sheep and among the very people who make the loudest noise. Go and tell the bolded to African Americans who have never felt at home in Northern Hemisphere despite living there for centuries. Do you know the true meaning of "home" despite it's shortcomings?

Accept the fact that you need to have your head examined.
It's interesting to note that you think people should stay in their country of origin for all eternity. In this day and age, where man is travelling to outer space and deliberating about colonising other planets, you still harbour this narrow mindset. I beg to differ. I envisage a future of ethnically diverse countries. After all, Europeans hardly confined themselves to their own countries, did they? On the contrary, they felt very much (perhaps a little too much) at home wherever they emigrated to.

Black people have a choice - stay in a hellhole or go out into the world and become part of other nations.
Regarding the racism we face in the diaspora, this is our fight and we will need to deal with it. The truth is, black people are becoming more and more part of the societies they emigrate to. For example, there is now a black American president; there are prominent black scientists, entrepreneurs, etc. in the diaspora.

Every person can choose where he wants to call home. Humans have been migrating since the stone age and will continue to do so. At the end of the day, home is where you can achieve your full potential.

Re: Why Do Nigerians In Diaspora Make The Loudest Voice On Nigeria Political.

It's because you guys back home are too dull, you don't know what to fight for or when to fight. we have no other choice than to keep shouting at you until you get things right. You should also know that many of us are never coming back home, so it your life. But we care nevertheless.

Im assuming this isn't one of the many aliases of Mr Beef so Il reply this time. Il also at this time ignore your abusive lingo.
The question is not where Boko Haram is at the mo. The question is since 2010 when Mr President said he and his govt know who Boko Haram leaders are, how many people has he arrested? After the Oct1 2010 bomb went off, Mr President specifically said it wasn't the work of MEND. This was despite the fact that MEND had claimed responsibility. Now for Mr President to come on National TV and say its not MEND implies that he had intel on who did it. I ask again, who has been arrested and prosecuted for Oct 1 act of terrorism?

I don't post on NL just for the sake of posting. Boko Haram and any other group killing innocent Nigerians are all Enemies of State. They must be arrested. Anyone including Mr President, who has info on them and refuses to do something about it, is in the same category and should be tried.
I agree with you that GEJ failing to bring the sponsors of boko haram to book is unacceptable. but we must take this issue that boko haram is in Cameroon seriously.
