What takes the heat out? THE FLUE GASES. Why are recuperator installed in fuel fired furnaces? Just to minimize heat energy lost from these flue gases. I am done teaching, you need to read more if you studied or still studying engineering.

The heat generated from the combustion of the fuel coming out of the exhaust is used for what? Roasting corn abi? Ecological wetin? If you don't know it causes pollution. Why do you thing companies are made to carry out their Carbon-Foot Print?

But I have friends working on Nano-technology even in Nigeria, even though they have problems with a lot of things and are far backward in the trend (cause most universities deals with their applications now and have long gone pass the development stages) and some lucky hardworking ones gets 6-12 months fellowship out of that country. At least they are contributing their quota in the field that will benefit humanity.

Talk is cheap sha. Have you been to OAU to check out their micro and nanotechnology lab? (my initial thesis was in the characterization of ZnO nano particles, I eventually gave up when it was costing me too much money since I had to get most of my lab work analyzed for a fee by a research institute in Italy). A secondary school physics laboratory in countries carrying out high quality research is more equipped than our research institute here in Nigeria.

This project done by unizik students deserves some commendation, they made use of the limited resources they had in an unsupportive country like Nigeria.

Maybe you are right, as at 2012 there is no functional SEM or TEM to carryout common characterization, that is available in most science and engineering labs in every serious universities outside Nigeria. But still I can't still find a way to justify this. I can't blame the boys doing this, all I feel for them is pity as they will part with a lot of money to buy fairly used parts of different automobiles to assemble this thing. Their professor really needs serious schooling about what is trending in the research world. Like i said earlier no stupid investor will even look this twice, all automobile manufacturing company most especially those producing for F1 have strong R&Ds trying to improve their product and they are willing to liaise with any institution/Professor having something positive to offer. When they see this they will just laugh and may buy it to keep in their museum to always help them in remembering the foolishness of Africans.

Do I have to school you? There are plenty researches going on in the world in the field of engineering. The world has pollution problem, there is power problem in the world and Nigeria is one of the worst hit with power problems. Energy is been wasted as heat or in other form, the world is working on the maximizing energy to prevent waste,lower pollution, to lower cost, serve more people and to save money which can be use to feed the poor and to build more infrastructures. The world is trying to convert wasted heat into electricity, thermo-electric, piezo-electric materials are been developed, the world is developing smart materials, nano-materials, light alloys, the world wants to move away from combustion engines, etc. These are things we need to key into but no, we are here praising the assembling of a 14th century supposed "F1 automobile" that has neither technological nor economical value to Nigeria and humanity as a whole.

There is nothing to condemn here, it doesn't just make sense. These energies, funds and time can be channeled into something else more meaningful and profitable. This thing will be dumped in the workshop as it has no meaningful use.

The bold was an invention, please tell me one thing new about what this guys did. I am not criticizing these guys but their Professor who made them do things like this. What they did cannot be published in any International journal with more than 1-impact factor if it will be taken in any journal at all (except maybe the like of our naija kangaroo local journals). Let me answer your question now, as kids we built things like these with empty cans and woods, the difference between this and ours is that we didn't have money to buy a fairly used engine.

These same set of people will rant China made/India made and will state how it is not on par with Western nations yet when it comes to what a Nigerian has made, the technologies they so condemn automatically becomes adorable. There really is an inherent problem with us. For students with that budget (#400, 000), they tried taking into consideration the negative factors that abound here in this country. But as the usual crowd mentality that we all have, we condemn, they never bothered reading the article to see that it was #.4 million yet they come here to criticise and say how they can couple sheets of metals together and voila! the car is made. Tomorrow, they'll say Nigerian students are not creative enough, they don't read anymore when they can't see a simple figure up in the above article about these young undergraduates. You guys don't just get it. No one does things like this anywhere in the world, it doesn't just make sense. I am not comparing Nigeria with those countries as we don't even know what we are doing (Just like these guys, you and many others on this thread), our education system is still lost in the 60's. Let me give you an example of what I mean in simple term; take for example, because your parents didn't buy you a shoe when you were 3 years old won't make you as a 20 year old kid to go and buy a shoe meant for a 3 year old kid so as to cover lost ground. Actually you can buy it but to sane people like me it will look stupid, that's exactly what these guys are doing. India's Minister of Science and Technology recently said they lost in the semi-conductors revolution when countries like Taiwan, Singapore, China, etc were keying into this revolution, but they can't afford to lose out in the nano-technology revolution going on presently. They are spending billions of dollars in research not into semi-conductors but into nano-materials and nano-technology cause they are not looking backwards but into the future and in the next 10-20 years we will see the result in their Health care, IT, manufacturing, etc. We need to join the world in the race and help develop what is going on at the present, there are many ways in which we can do this but surely not in assembling this.

But there is nothing here that shows that these guys are learned, anybody can do this without going to school. Just folding and cutting sheet metals, putting seat and fairly used engine into it means nothing brother. We need to learn and move away from this rubbish, this is not the 14th century. What development means is improving the available ones, like improving the fuel efficiency of the engine, improve the accelerating time, reducing weight of the car by developing light materials with higher weight to strength ratio, etc. Which car manufacturer in the world will want to invest into this? NONE. If you try this as a lecturer/research in China, India, japan, etc, you will surely be stoned to death no doubt.

What exactly is locally sourced here? What is the motivation or justification of doing this? SMH. Any lecturer/research outside of West-Africa who supervises any student in doing this will definitely lose his/her job. FACT!
