The Deputy Governor, Mrs. Ada Okwuonu, who made the announcement at the grand finale of the beauty pageant organised by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Channel 12, Owerri, also called on parents to allow their wards that are interested in beauty contests to participate.

She commended NTA management and Mr. Kellie Emenyonu, the fashion designers, promising that government will continue to promote culture and tourism in the state.

In her speech, Miss Ibeagi solicited the support of the state government, non-governmental organisations and well meaning individuals for her numerous projects geared towards assisting the poor and less privileged in the society.

“I intend to organise a seminar on sustainable youth development, and render support to orphanages and assist the disabled”, Ibeagi said.

Meanwhile, Miss Ibeagi has visited the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Chief Chuman Nnaji, his Education counterpart, Prof Jude Njoku and the Special Adviser, Sanitation and Transport, Chief Willie Amadi.

Obi Faces Fresh Impeachment Threat
By Daniel Kanu (Lagos) and Chukwujekwu Ilozue (Onitsha)
Anambra seems intent on backsliding into its days of political gangsterism, with schemers now piling pressure on the legislature to get rid of Governor Peter Obi, for the second time, to 'pave the way for victory' in next year's ballot.

The state is unique in Nigeria, in that it will hold the Governorship election in 2010, a year before all others, including the run for Aso Rock, because Chris Ngige illegally occupied Government House, Awka from 2003 until he was sacked by the Appeal Court in 2006.

The court declared Obi winner of the 2003 ballot, but he was impeached by the state House of Assembly seven months later, only for the Appeal Court to restore his mantle after three months.

Obi belongs to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while all members of the Assembly are in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It was learnt that the lawmakers are being prodded to cash in on the upsurge in crime and the N250 million allegedly found on an Obi's aide last week in Lagos.

The third tack, a source confided, "is to sponsor groups to protest to the House on continuous basis hinging on the two issues of security and alleged missing money."

That was reportedly the kernel of the message taken to the Assembly on Tuesday by PDP National Vice Chairman (South East), Olisa Metu, when he visited the Speaker and held a meeting with him in camera.

It was Metu's first visit to the legislature since he assumed office more than a year ago.

It coincided with a protest to the Assembly by National Grassroots Forum, an organ of the PDP, which denounced insecurity in the state and the alleged "missing N250 million Anambra money."

During the visit, Metu openly castigated the lawmakers for not protecting the interest of the PDP.

He said though the Assembly has the "biggest mandate and is supposed to be in opposition, it still supports (Obi)."

He moaned that the PDP hierarchy in Abuja works hard for the removal of Obi, allegedly with the approval of President Umaru Yar'Adua, yet the legislators keep frustrating the efforts.

Metu advised the Assembly to insist that any Bill or appointments Obi brings before it should have PDP interest.

It was learnt that at the closed door session with the lawmakers, Metu assured them of Yar'Adua's support of any plot to see the back of Obi, on the plank of insecurity and the alleged missing money.

But some legislators, including Simeon Ohajianya, informed Metu that the high crime rate is believed to be politically sponsored.

Which, recounted a source, made Metu to shout out: "Then what have you achieved? Thirty of you are all PDP members but the state is gradually slipping out of your hand just because you want to tell the world how logical your reasoning is."

He reminded them that Obi will soon bring to the Assembly a list of members of State Independent Electoral Commission (ANAMSIEC), which must be "shared 50-50 with the PDP."

Metu also reportedly told the lawmakers to drum it that "Obi has fallen short of his duty in proving security for the lives and properties of the people, no matter what explanation he gives.

"On the N250 million missing Anambra money, it is gratifying to note that you have set up a Committee to probe it. The matter must be resolved quickly and Constitutionally. We know how you were blackmailed during the budget debate. Today, we know who wants money most."

But state APGA Chairman, Akunwata Mike Kwentoh, said the sequence of events has vindicated the party.

"When APGA said that the crisis in the state was sponsored some people doubted, but if not for the way (Obi) handled it, they would have succeeded in planting arms in his vehicles on May 31. Soon after that, June 2, there was deadly armed robbery attack in Nnewi.

"On June 4, a resolution was sponsored by A.B.C Nwosu calling for the removal of Obi. The next day, thugs fired gun shots in the air to cause panic. On June 9, Metu met with the lawmakers.

"Senator Ikechukwu Obiorah and House of Representatives member, C.I.D Maduabum, have also promised to move motions in the National Assembly to declare Anambra unsafe, prelude to emergency rule. Now, you could see a well orchestrated plan to destabilise the state."

Obi on his own has vowed not to rig election to serve a second term.

He also pledged that his administration would beat the 2015 Millennium Development Goal (MDG) timeframe, as he is poised to create new records project implementation.

Said he: "It has not been in my character to cheat nor to cut corners for any position that I have found myself. I am not desperate about positions and I will never rig election to serve the people of Anambra State."

"My vision is to leave Anambra better than I met it and I will not fail in that assignment. I want to serve the people to the best of my ability and I will not fail in that social contract."

Obi, who spoke in Lagos on Wednesday, explained that the state's budget has shifted from supply-driven to demand-driven, which has "positively affected real development as well as proper planning."

He allayed fears over insecurity, insisting that his government is on top of the situation.

Who were the great igbo Kings?
What about igbo art and crafts as opposed to just 'things fall apart'?
I know a lot of these new igbo 'kings' were warrant chiefs made by the colonialists. Who were the original ones?
Apart from onitsha and some parts of old arochukwu there was nothing like igbo kings, What existed was clans of different tribes on igbo which existed as republican village settings.

Halliburton Bribery Scandal: The Real Reason US Department of Justice rebuffed Yar'adua
Monday, 08 June 2009 13:04 Saharareporters, New York E-mail | Print | PDF
Yar'adua's AGF Michael Aondoakaa notorious for extortion
The letter from the US Justice department, denying the Nigerian government access to needed evidence regarding Nigerians involved in the Halliburton bribe scandal, validates Saharareporters reports that the Nigerian Attorney General, Michael Aondoakaa never met with officials of that department when he visited Washington DC, contrary to claims he made in the media that he had a “good meeting” with US officials.

Saharareporters learnt the decision to deny Yar’Adua was based on recent reports that the committee he put together was shaking down persons involved in the scam. The committee is led by the outgoing-Inspector General of police, Mike Okiro.

A case in point is Ibrahim Aliyu, the Nigerian said to be in possession of the $180 million that was reported to have been frozen in Switzerland. Aliyu, who was the front for former head of state Abdusallam Abubakar in the Halliburton bribe scheme was detained for a long period of time because he said that he was unable to share the $180 million with committee members, especially the AGF, Aondoakaa.

Aliyu is reported to have said he couldn’t part with money he did not have. He reportedly told the Okiro panel that some of his personal funds were also frozen in the action taken against his account in Switzerland.

The US authorities, learning of the shake-down of Aliyu and several others facing the Okiro panel, then decided that the Nigerian authorities were not seriously interested in prosecuting Halliburton bribe suspects. A Justice Department official told Saharareporters that no serious government agency takes the current Nigerian leaders seriously on issues of corruption.

Foreign Affairs › Omar Bongo Of Gabon Is Dead. by asha80(op): 11:24pm On Jun 07, 2009
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8088382.stm

Gabon leader Omar Bongo 'is dead'

Omar Bongo embodied the close ties between France and its former colonies
Africa's longest-serving leader, President Omar Bongo of Gabon, has died at the age of 73, French media say.

Mr Bongo had been treated in a clinic in the Spanish city of Barcelona. He was reported to have cancer, and had suspended his activities in May.

Mr Bongo had led his oil-producing West African state since 1967.

In May, a French judge announced an investigation into whether Mr Bongo had used state funds to buy homes and cars in France - a claim denied by Mr Bongo.

The death of the Gabonese veteran leader was reported by AFP news agency, who quoted a French government source, and also by the website of French magazine Le Point, quoting a source close to Mr Bongo's entourage.

There has not yet been any official confirmation.

Mr Bongo became vice-president in 1967, taking over as head of state later that year after the death of Gabon's first post-independence President Leon Mba.

He had built a powerful dynasty in the former French colony during his years in office.

Opposition leaders have claimed his son, Ali Ben Bongo, currently defence minister, is being manoeuvred to take over.

an ezendigbo must be a person ready to bring the ibos together culture and language wise. a certain igbo language is termed as central igbo. any man far from this central igbo has nothing good to offer when it comes to the coming together of the ibos as such forum must be one sided.
i have said it and i will it again, no matter how daft i am, the ibos had no king, the have none and we will see if they will have one.
from this name that is not generally accepted in the central igbo language, i will say it here that he stands disqualified. for him to rule the ibos, he must first of all centralize his name to that generally acceptable name in the central igbo language hence he will be known and addressed as ohazurike.
if he must continue with ohazulike, then he is representing a set of ppl of which he can only be their king.
ezendigbo is a cultural thing and must be followed in the same way.

NOTE: words like ohazulike is suposed to be ohazurike, oruchi - oluchi etc we can see that it has been transfered to english language which is foriegn and we now have bressing instead of blessing, we have ladio instead of radio, roads and loads have been used without differentiations. how long are going to continue like this?
You are spewing rubbish here.If you do not understand dialectical differences go siddon for for gutter. If you do not know central igbo was actually borrowed from different dialects of igboland for written fom of igbo to be established and taught in school. If you have problem with anambra and enugu people that is your problem but no dey misappopriate yarns here.

Note i do not support the eze ndigbo bullshit.

Written by Ismail Mudashir, Kaduna
demonstrating youths
ten days since a riot broke out in Zaria City, Kaduna State to protest prolonged power failure, another riot broke out in the city yesterday when hundreds of angry youths in Sabon Gari Local Government Area attacked the entourage of the state governor, Architect Mohammed Namadi Sambo, who was in the area to commission some projects executed by his administration and by the local government council.
It took the men of the Operation Yaki security outfit almost an hour to clear the way for the governor and his entourage, who were besieged by the youths at Hayin Ojo, where the governor went to flag-off construction of the Hayin Ojo/ Shika dam road. The governor and his entourage had to change route following a security report that the youths had taken over the Chikaji road which leads to the local government secretariat in Dogorawa.

The youths, who were hurling stones at the governor’s entourage, succeeded in smashing the windscreen of some vehicles belonging to the state government, including that of the local government chairman, Alhaji Kasimu Lawal Abasco. Daily Trust learnt that yesterday’s episode was not unconnected with Monday last week’s anti-power failure riot, which led to the death of four youths and the arrest of 66 persons.

Some of the placards carried by the rioting youths read “Bamuson Abasco [we don’t want Abasco],” Abasco ya chuche mu [Abasco has cheated us]’’ however, Governor Namadi Sambo still managed to commission the projects. While flagging off the road in Hayin Ojo, Sambo commiserated with the people for last week’s deaths and pledged to do everything possible to address the problem of power supply that caused the riot. He appealed to the youths of the area to remain calm and peaceful, saying no meaningful development would be achieved in an atmosphere characterized by violence.

Emir of Zazzau Dr. Shehu Idris also advised the youths not to allow themselves to be used by outsiders who are bent on destroying the existing peace in the area. When it came to the turn of the local government chairman to address the gathering, the youths again started raining insults on him. He however managed to say that he regretted the unfortunate incident of last week and said it would not be allowed to repeat itself.
