Abagworo: The question is how many statues are there? What do they represent? Is the idea of the park good? Do we need more parks? Let's always sweep personal hate aside and support what is good for our development. Imo State money is in South Africa courtesy Ohakim's hotel so if South African money is brought to Imo State that's a good thing. Dubai is full of Nigerian money courtesy same people but you will never understand. Why you hate Okorocha is because he brought and encouraged people to invest in Imo State which you find abnormal. Assuming he carried Imo State money to South Africa you would be happy that he is like others.
I expect Uzodinma to change his style of carrying Imo money to Lagos and Abuja at least now that he us Governor. Let him bring his friends and family to Imo and invest heavily. At least he has links in Equatorial Guinea so moulding their President to help build another Eastern Palm University and Uzodinma foundation College won't be a bad idea. you have a very funny mindset with your last paragraph |

NigeriaIsZOO: It is very important for them to have their corporate office in Owerri. That's how it is done everywhere! Check most big manufacturing companies in Nigeria and you will see they have a corporate office either in Lagos or Abuja.
They should be building one at Wetheral or better still somewhere around New Owerri. when you say everywhere I am sure you mean nigeria especially from the egs you gave because in most Western countries we like to emulate of even China it isn't the same ..nigeria is dysfunctional...why is rivers state saying that oil companies headquarters should come back to ph like it used to be in 70s ? Please the headquarters or corporate offices of those companies springing up in ohaji and oguta should be situated in that axis and not come to owerri to compound the congestion..if we are reasoning the spending ability of the guys working there to spend in owerri then a well dualized road from wherever the corporate office is going to be located there to join owerri ph expressway should suffice |

Yampotatocarrot: The geometric issue is a very big loss to the whole States in the Southeast, all because of the greed of one man. I pity Nnaji though, and I pray he finds favour in the sight of the government in power so that things will turn around not just for him alone, but also in the light of power generation and distribution in the whole South East, starting with Abia and Imo state.
Are there more hotels in Owerri than needed? You said YES, I beg to politely disagree. Any current decline in patronage is due to the Covid19 and schools not being fully operational yet. Let higher institutions resume fully and things get back in place, you'll be surprised you'll visit some hotels and they'll tell you there's no room available.
This same low patronage is being witnessed by hotels around SCOAN, Ikotun due to the fact that the church has been closed down for a long time, as per Covid19... Let church activities resume and you'll be lucky to get accomodation around there.
Imo state wants to become the hub of entertainment West of River Niger+Benue and it's gradually getting there... All the lowclass hotels or those ones with poor services will definitely have to close down for others to survive. It'll soon be a case of serious competition which will lead to hotels rendering top notch services to keep customers please geometric issue has been resolved since December last yr |

Kelechi121: They recently commissioned a 200bed infectious disease center as part of there CRS and they will be spending approximately 1billion per year on corporate social responsibilities, this specifically applies to Seplat.
In addition, there is a framework for a job quota to the community/senatorial zone/state with a ratio of 10%/15%/20% respectively, these percentages are encompassing (don’t quote me on these, I read these figures a few years ago)
Additionally, IMO state govt will benefit through taxation and percentage based on amount of gas drilled.
There are plans for Anoh to erect a state of the art office at a price location in Owerri, and an establishment of a school that will liaise with oil rich training facilities in Texas for training and knowledge sharing.
In a nutshell the benefits are immeasurable.
But the problem lies in the implementation. I think he is also interested in how those processed gas help in attracting industrial and manufacturing concerns into the state by tapping the 'cheap' gas produced |

Yampotatocarrot: Expansion for warehouse? How far can that road be extended again... Alternative needs to be done, I go with the flyover though, pull them that park or whatever close by and make better use of the river area
As for fire service, there's sufficient space for expansion both sides, so those turning won't need to join the main lane... That's if the government will be bold enough to demolish the structures around that busstop maybe you don't understand me..I never said anything about expansion on that warehouse road/area..I meant expansion of construction of road networks of roads already pencilled down for construction in owerri master plan of decades ago that wasn't or hasn't been done on the first instance..I am not for a flyover construction in owerri and for those ones rochas did I see then as waste because first things first weren't done |

That prompts population flooding Owerri area. That necessitates governors to build infrastructures in Owerri area to contain the urban expansion in Owerri area.

Ben Eguzozie, in Port Harcourt
Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), global oil player with the largest footprint in Nigeria, has handed out cheques worth over N360 million to community contractors for the third milestone cluster development boards (CDBs) social investment projects designed to benefit host communities of the Assa North Gas Development Project.
The multi-billion-dollar Asa North-Ohaji South (ANOH) gas project, is one of the largest greenfield gas condensate development projects ever undertaken in Nigeria. It is expected to produce 600 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mscf/d), an equivalent of approximately 2.4 gigawatts (GW) of electricity for Nigeria.
ANOH, being developed by Shell, and estimated to cost over $3.5 billion, is sited on 200 hectares of land in Ohaji-Egbema local government area of Imo State, which was based on a request in June 2012 by Shell. The land is part of the state’s equity contribution to the project.
Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State lauded Shell’s commitment to the development of infrastructure and human capital in communities hosting the Assa North Gas Development project in the state.
Represented by Ikay Njoku, the commissioner for Environment, the governor also endorsed the gas project’s Cluster Development Board’s (CDB) employment of community contractors for the social investment projects.
Imo, an oil-rich state, is said to be awash with huge gas deposits in excess of 700 billion cubic feet of gas much of which have not been harnessed. Nigeria has 200.79 trillion cubic feet of gas as of 2019, according to figures posted by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).
The governor said: “I commend the Assa North and Ohaji Egbema Cluster Development Boards, as well as their community contractors for doing good jobs so far. Imo State Government will continue to monitor project execution to ensure that contractors do not lower the quality and standard of the jobs. We will have zero tolerance for corruption.”
Chairman of Assa North CDB, Godswill Uzomba Uho, his counterpart for the Ohaji/Egbema CDB, Casmir Ekeruo all pledged to “continue to monitor the community contractors to ensure they executed the projects with right standards maintained.
Meanwhile, Banji Adekoya, SPDC’s external relations manager, projects and opportunities, said SPDC was committed to supporting projects that increase the capacity of the communities to deliver credible projects.
He said, the gas development project in Imo was one of the priority projects of the federal government of Nigeria, because its development will help the government deliver on its ambition to provide enough gas for domestic consumption, power generation and gas-based ammonia and urea fertilizers for farmers.”
“The Assa North Gas Development Project will be a major game-changer in our country’s quest for energy sufficiency and economic growth and, once again, it emphasizes Shell’s unshaken commitment to Nigeria both now and in the future,” the SPDC official said.
He confirmed the project’s potential as one of the largest domestic gas projects in the country when completed. That when completed, the ANOH gas project will produce 600 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mscf/d) from its upstream facilities, and process 300 mscf/d from the SPDC gas facility under construction to boost domestic gas supply for power generation and general industrialization.
According to him, to benefit the local communities, SPDC has a deliberate Nigerian and Community Content strategy embedded in the projects’ operations to create vast opportunities for Nigerian firms in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts; immense employment and sub-contracting opportunities for workers and local contractors in the project area; as well as opportunities for capacity development initiatives, knowledge transfer and human capital development.
In February 2019, Shell inaugurated CDBs for the major gas project, in which it would spend N1 billion in the project’s host communities over the next five years.
The CDBs are made up of principal officers of the Community Trusts from 11 communities of the ANOH gas development project, and would have the responsibility for implementing a global memorandum of understanding (GMOU) established for the project.
The Anglo-Dutch oil giant had earlier in late 2018 announced a final investment decision (FID) on the gas project. This was followed by signing of a GMOU with the project’s host communities in Ohaji-Egbema local government area of Imo State.
The Cluster Development Boards implement Shell’s Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) for delivering sustainable development projects in the host communities I am often confused it this one by shell is different from the one been done by seplat |

Yampotatocarrot: . My brother, when it comes to tech, government have VERY LITTLE ROLE to play there. It's left for these youths to shift their attention to that area. The state Government can't help them get jobs online, reduce price of data subscription or provide uninterrupted power for them.
As the other brother stated, the growth of the hospitality industry will and have opened up other industries in the state.
I was happy last time I went home to discover this growth in hospitality isn't just limited to Owerri and its environs. For example, I know Chris VI in the hinterlands is doing very well and enjoying good patronage. Let others do the same and move further away from the capital.
Side note: Some of the hotels in Owerri/Egbu really need to up their game... From the customer service to the conditions of their rooms or they'll go out of business there is stiff competition for hotels in and around owerri so if some hotels aren't meeting up then let them close down..it isn't really supposed to be all comers affair and moreover there are many around already....as for reducing power of subscription I disagree with you that govt cannot help out..they can by slashing right of way to companies trying to lay fibre optics in the state |
