PoliticsRe: Replace 'State Of Origin' With 'Certificate Of Residence' — VP Osinbajo by askarachi: 2:57am On May 17, 2025
This debate of origin is a complex one for a relatively backward country like Nigeria but it is one this GenZ generation must not shy from. The future of our nation deeply relies on progressive and brave thoughts like these.

Let me start by saying that some of your submissions are correct about the SE but you will do well to remember that they voted the said PDP even when the candidates were not from their “region”.

With that established, the fact that you’re unshaken in your reasoning shows that you place your ego (that in all honestly appears fragile) over actual development of us as a people. People will always talk and that’s the beauty of politics. There is no need to lose your minds over another man’s words. Abolishing state of origin does not abolish your ethnicity or tribe.

Black people like you and I were for instance were once slaves in the US but we had a black man as a Democrat president now making reforms as radical as gay marriage. It shows progression and societal advancement. The world is changing but we Africans are like Pharisees, never changing with it, always stuck in our ways and dishing out blames. No matter how old Lagos or anywhere else is it was not always what it is today. Human migration has occurred over millions of years and as people keep moving around our geography and identity transforms also.

I should include that I am not an immediate supporter of the removal of State of origin or any other reform I believe is progressive until data proves that the action itself will play a significant role is dragging out of generational poverty. Let us be open minded to progressive reforms as long as they can be backed with data. Staying stuck in our ways is the reason we have remained the poverty capital of the world for decades. Something must change because it’s clear as day that with our current dispensation we would never be able to vote the right leaders to get us out of this mess. We have to revolutionize our minds with actual brave thoughts and rethink our existence.

White people have changed their “origin” a number of times over the past centuries through the rise and falls of empires. It is in the ability to see how times are changing and adjust appropriately. This is clear proof of their high intelligence and flexibility, virtues we should adopt in order to give our nation a fighting chance.

Cheers
Just another Nigerian like you.

GeneralPulal:
Wrong move! Not a viable thing to do at all!

State of origin will always be state of origin. This is how it is everywhere in the world!

There's unity in Nigeria but most we Nigerians are bias & very sentimental. Agree to disagree is a human being thing. We can't all sleep and face the same direction at the same time. It happens in politics, football, music, movies etc. it's just a human style of life..

Bias & sentiment - here's an example;
Igbos have been voting Pdp in their region for more than 20 years without nothing you show for it. The west have always been vote trying all parties. Thanks to God, our leaders may not be the best here but they've always been trying! They've always had our back one way or the other. It's only if you don't step out of your house here in the west that you won't find something that can fetch you money. It can only get better, I believe!

Now, the Igbos are here. If any Igbos that's not bias and sentimental wants to hate on a politician, is it these same ACN/APC he's suppose to hate or PDP? Abia state have been owing salaries for years! Ogun state doesn't! But you're here in Ogun state, hating on Ogun state Governor cuz he's in Apc. Isn't that hypocrisy & tribalism?

If you wanna hate on FG, make it clear. But which one be hating on Yoruba politicians that are even doing better than your own politician? That your state Governor is wack doesn’t mean all state Governors are wack! Sanwo-olu 4years is better than Obi’s 8years... Yet, these same people hate Sanwo-olu!

So make every one dey hold him state of origin abeg!

Hello everyone. I would to like to know if anyone has gotten admission or to Sheridan college or Niagara college for January 2024 intake or any update on colleges for the 2024 intake on this forum, I have applied to these colleges since April and I haven't received any response. Thanks
Please confirm if these colleges are still handing out admission to international student. I’m aware this cap really affected the rate at which colleges are admitting students now. Please do proper research

NUJABEZ:
It was five years for me. In 2020, I took a break from work. For one year I massively upskilled. Got three certifications: Product Design, Product Management, and Project Management, plus a 5-month internship with a company in the UK offered through Almond Careers in a role that combined aspects of each specialization.

Prior to the upskilling, I made $$ 10-12, but after it, in 2021, I became qualified for roles that pay more than $25 per hour, off Upwork, and with benefits. Inasmuch as where someone is right now is a good starting point, I wish I hadn't lingered at the beginner level for too long. Someone who used to work on Upwork in UI/UX that I know now works in Ireland and getting more than $150k per annum just because they advanced their skills so well, got into Toptal, worked for Loom, and then a European fintech employed him mid-2021.

We will all get there, hopefully, or even found startups that will create jobs.

I think travel expenses have to also be added to the POF but yes you should show LE for two years

Hello gurus,

With the newly updated living expenses to 20k,

For someone going for two years program, does he/she need to show entire 2years living expenses amount which is 41k?

Lastly, Applicant is showing his Financials and a that of Co-sponsor

This is making me so sad as I’m reading it. This is another evidence that we need capital punishment for these “travel agents and consultants”. Firing squad or electric chair. It’s also proof that Nigerians are 80% of the problem of this country, the leaders are just 10%. I really hope you find strength and start the process afresh. If you really want to relocate you’ll find a way especially as a student by God’s grace. It’s not your fault, it’s the agent’s. Please don’t blame yourself and just start afresh with all the info you get here
opebajo11:
Thanks for the feedback. I have been so down since since I noticed the game the agent has Ben playing, just like my face was covered. I decided to verify the acceptance letter that he sent me and I was shocked, the response I got from school which I have attached below.

The issue now is that I don’t even have an idea the information he used for visa application, that is if he even applied, but I went for biometrics.

I do not know what to do if to go ahead and start all over again. Please help

I’m just happy I’ve found someone with a similar experience. I thought my case was Percuilar and something was wrong. I have till 20th to update my school. I submitted since 27th of November. I don’t understand what exactly the issue is with affixing a visa to a passport page. This Canada can be so dramatic sometimes
Sireemmy5555:
This is crazy because o need to register my course but without the Visa stamp I can’t until I get it before the deadline or defer my admission. So frustrating
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by askarachi: 1:48pm On Dec 10, 2023
Same here. I submitted in vfs Abuja around that time and got the same message you got around the same 5th of December. Since then they’ve been quiet. I’ve called and emailed and done everything but they just keep saying it’s being processed. I don’t think it’s this slow for people that submitted in Lagos 🤔

Sireemmy5555:
Hello house. I submitted my passport at Vfs Abuja for visa stamp on the 30th November 2023. I got news on the 5th of December it is under processing but still no news yet. And I have a deadline on the 15th of December to submit my visa stamp so I can register my course or apply for deferral. My worry is my program next intake is January 2025 and I don’t know if I can still use the visa to travel if I defer the admission.

What exactly is wrong with this useless VFS? Why have they seized my passport for the past two weeks for God’s sake? This is becoming really annoying. Anyone else waiting for their passport from vfs?

Some employers and students already in Canada protested to retain more than 20hours work per week from government may have caused financial requirements increased..since they claimed 20hours work per week is not enough..
While tuition fees has been increased by some universities in Canada...
Do you think 20 hours a week is enough?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by askarachi: 7:48pm On Dec 07, 2023
UPDATE!!!!!

Starting January 1, 2024, the cost-of-living financial requirement for study permit applicants will be raised to ensure that international students are better prepared for life in Canada. This threshold will be adjusted each year, similarly to other immigration programs. Learn more: canada.ca/en/immigration…

For 2024, a single applicant will need to show they have $20,635 in addition to their first year of tuition and travel costs. This change will apply to new study permit applications received on or after January 1, 2024.

In addition, Minister Miller has provided an update on three temporary policies that were set to expire at the end of 2023, including the following:

· International students already in Canada, as well as applicants who have already submitted an application for a study permit as of December 7, 2023, will be able to work off-campus for more than 20 hours per week until April 30, 2024.

· The measure that has allowed international students to count time spent studying online towards the length of a future post-graduation work permit, as long as it constitutes less than 50% of the program of study, will continue to be in place for students who begin a study program before September 1, 2024.

· A temporary policy was introduced on three occasions to provide an additional 18-month work permit to post-graduation work permit holders as their initial work permit was expiring. Foreign nationals with a post-graduation work permit expiring up to December 31, 2023, remain eligible to apply. However, this temporary policy will not be extended further.
