Barely seven months of boasting that the Anambra state International Cargo Airport project would be completed in less than 18 months, there is indication that work has not started at the site after the state commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, told journalists they won’t access it.

A team of investigative journalists including Blueprint reporter had gone to find out the pace of work at the site since Governor Willie Obiano, on November 27, 2019 during the Anambra Business and Investment Roundtable held at Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, said the project would be completed before 18 months.

Obiano equally claimed that work has resumed on the site with clearing done at about a kilometer out of 3.6 kilometer runway.

“Oga, sorry, we don’t entertain journalists here any longer. You can’t be allowed to see its pace. You can call the works commissioner to confirm it,” two ununiformed men stationed at the entrance to the site stated, adding that the commissioner was on site with the contracting firm.

But a look from afar showed that there was no work on the site except a visible sign of a newly cleared road by bulldozer, first of its kind since 2017 the work was flagged off.


When the commissioner for works, Mr Ifejiofor was contacted on the phone, he queried, “Why are you here? Who told you to come here? We don’t allow people to come here, you can’t come, but you can come to my office on the following Wednesday by 10am,” he said.

On Wednesday, the commissioner fumed again,“I don’t know what you want to be told about the project. Go and quote me, just say work has not started. I am not ready to talk further on the project, so you can say that I said no comment. If you have other things to know about the state of roads in Anambra, I will be ready to speak to you, but I am not willing to talk about the airport.


“Any time I want to make a comment I will tell you. If the project had started our Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) would have carried the report.

Is it because I allowed you into my office? How many commissioners in the state can allow you into their offices the way I allowed you people not to talk of other eastern states. I don’t have any comments on the project,” he said.

Obiano had at a budget presentation at Anambra State House of Assembly on September 26, 2019 announced that the government has earmarked N6 billion naira for the construction of the Anambra State International Cargo Airport at Umueri, Anambra East local government area in fulfilment of his promise at 2017 governorship campaign.

The governor in 2017 inaugurated the airport project which, according to him, included a mall, industrial, business park, airport hotel and others, claiming that it would boost economic development and increase the income base of the state.

The project, estimated to cost over $2 billion and would be developed through a partnership between the Anambra State Government, Orient Petroleum Resources and Elite International Investments. Elite International Investments was specifically said to provide all funds under a build, operate, manage and transfer agreement.

Earlier in 2017, Obiano said it was a Chinese company, Sinoking International that would build it at no cost to the state through a Build-Operate-Manage and Transfer (BOMT) basis

Work is going on at the airport at neckbreak speed. You should know that most of the print journalists and correspondents for major dailies working in Anambra are PDP hirelings who are out to misrepresent the Obiano administration since Obiano chose to work only with ABS, Channels TV, National Light, Purity fm and Odenigbo fm.

For the record, I don't share your sentiment about Obiano. He may not be excellent, but he has performed well above average. I rate him higher than Peter Obi in several sectors; security, civil service welfare, infrastructure, human capital development and politics. Others are arguable. Then as regards his successor, I am not sure that Ike Obosi is interested in the election. APGA will likely present Soludo and his popularity, incumbency and APGA platform will almost certainly guarantee him victory.

I have been saying this for more than a year now, Buhari is the one destroying APC and teh reason is simple: A fractured APC cannot insist on the rotation arraingment that made the North have the first eight years (buhari) and the South to produce the next President in 2023.
Buhari is destroying the APC becuase he has connived with Northerners in the PDP to produce a Northerner as PDP candidate while the APC is too destroyed for any Southerner Candidate it produces, to stand any chance.

This is not about APC or PDP but if you are a Southerner (East West and SS) and Middle-Belter (or even Tinubu because l am certain that Tinubu is not contesting in 2023) and you cannot norrow sense to ensure that this Evil, Patron of terorist Herdsmen does not foist another Herdsman on us in 2023, then you deserve what ever happens after.

Look, this whole APC crises started when Tinubu and Oshiomhole ganged up to work with Governor Nyesom Wike in Rivers State to make sure that Chibuike Amaechi doesn't present a candidate that will take over from PDP. They were willing to sacrifice APC in Rivers State just to actualise their 2023 agenda of weakening Amaechi. So if you will accuse anyone of antiparty, it is Tinubu and Oshiomhole.

The 'end game' of Buhari is to ensure that the Presidency remains in the North for another eight years, to make 16yrs of Northern rule.
And if you go by the trend of Buhari's Northernisation Agenda, you should know that by that time, a Northerner will be Obi of Onitsha, Oba of benin, Oba of Lagos, Oba of Oyo and the whole of Southern Nigeria (SS, SE, SW) and Middle Belt will become conquered territory, ruled by Fulani herdsmen. They will take land, plunder and burn properties and RUGA the whole of SouthernNigeria, with impunity!

To be forwarned, is to be forarmed, Southerners must borrow themselves sense, all this internal bickering between Igbos and Yoruba is enslaving us into the hands of Northerners.

Nothing will make a northerner succeed Buhari. Go and write it down.

There are some local government areas that have great potentials and should be specially promoted as tourism destinations in Anambra. They include Anambra East, Ihiala, Oyi, Orumba South and Ayamelum.

The advantage that Amaechi has over Tinubu is that Amaechi is in Abuja while Tinubu is in Lagos. Buhari gets to see Amaechi at least once every week during their Fec meetings.

Those who have the ears of powers in Abuja should please suggest this to them. Private school teachers are most impacted by this lockdown and it is unfortunate that even the NLC are not creating awareness about their plight, whether they are members of their body or not. I am not a school teacher but I have friends who are and believe me, they are in very direct situation now. The woman who committed suicide doesn't look like a begger by calling but she may have resorted to begging due to restrictions that may have greatly affected her work. May her soul rest in peace. And may God help the child she left behind, amen.

Jonathan was not entirely a bad or failed leader but it was imperative that he had to be removed from that office at the time. E get why.

The same way Obasanjo campaigned for Atiku in 2019 after many unprintable things he said about Atiku and Peter Obi campaigned for PDP after calling them a den of thieves when he was still in ApGA. Politics is a game. At the end, the electorates will decide. Edo people from what I have heard are very enlightened.

APGA has a policy of working with any government at the centre. We worked with PDP before but have now shifted loyalty to the new power that be. And it has been paying off. Anambra has two federal ministers and many other federal appointees, something that some APC states can't boast of.

The average Anambra person on the streets don't even believe this Covid 19 stuff. They just wear their facemasks for fancy and to avoid harrassment from Willie taskforce. May God help Anambra state.

Erosion in Anambra state is mostly self inflicted. You just need to move around the state to see greedy sand merchants excavating sand in all corners of the state even close to major highways. The deep erosion that have defaced Obosi and Oba are man made. The former airport site in Oba is now a mess. In Anambra state, our people are very stubborn and greedy even when government blocks them from further excavation, they go ahead to continue the act while nothing is done to apprehend them. A major road to Main market in Onitsha is now taken over by sand excavators who have become law unto themselves. A southeast erosion control commission is welcome though if it is given the legal backing to arrest and prosecute those who are deliberately destroying the ecosystem to further worsen the erosion situation in the south east.

I am not sure that this is Aba. Aba doesn't allow commercial motorcycles better known as okada.
