Politics / The South West Of Stand Up Foigeria; Nigeria's Unity Not Negotiable by asorocker: 6:50pm On Jul 14, 2016 |
The South West Coordinating office of Stand Up for Nigeria (SUN), a socio-political group, has held a solidarity rally across major parts of Lagos, reaffirming the Unity of Nigeria and the confidence of the Nigerian masses in President Muhammadu Buhari. Buhari The members of SUN, which marched out in their thousands, distributed pamphlets across Ikeja, Opebi, Allen Avenue, Lagos State House of Assembly and the Lagos House, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s official residence to enlighten Nigerians on the need for the country’s unity. Speaking during the rally, South West Coordinator for SUN, Patriot Abiona Desmond insisted that the unity and continued existence of Nigeria is not negotiable contrary to those that have been dismissing our oneness with their bogus claims of a negotiable unity. Desmond described the tumultuous and massive crowd that turned up for the rally as a proof that the entire country remain united as one and behind President Buhari. The group also passed a vote of confidence on the President Buhari’s administration, saying his commitment to rid the country of corruption and ensure security of lives and properties are already yielding results. Desmond said the calls for restructuring of Nigeria have reached a strident point where just any person capable of expression has joined the clamour for restructuring. He said, “This is why we are today holding this march to not just add our voice to the discourse but to demonstrate our preparedness to back our position with action when the need arises. “For us, the demand for restructuring is a coded way of calling for the disintegration of Nigeria, which is why we rightly concluded that it is not the way to go. We have seen several groups and eminent persons hyping restructuring as if it is a cure all for all the things that are wrong with the country, whereas the main issues are not being addressed.” According to him, if the several ethnic nationals that make up Nigeria feel unfulfilled, it is because their leaders were corrupt, act with impunity and promote violence against their own ethnic stocks. He said, “Fortunately, these are the shortcomings that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government has been tackling head on. We have seen how endemic corruption became under the previous regimes. It was this satanic level of corruption that sustained the era of impunity. The attempt to either cover up the corruption or justify corrupt expenses was the driver for the rise and spread of insurgency. No wonder the crisis entrepreneurs have found a new pastime in calling for restructuring. “We are therefore urging Nigerians to look beyond the clamour for restructuring. We should, for a start, assess where we have been, where we are and where we want to be at any material time. This assessment is best done under a purposeful leadership which we are lucky to have under President Buhari who has strengthened our belief in the unity of this country in which our faith is unwavering. “There is no better response from us as conscientious Nigerians that to pass a vote of confidence in President Buhari. The vote of confidence should translate into more citizens’ support that will spur him on to do even more. When this happens, Mr President would be able to leave this country even more united than he met it.” Desmond said the group decided to pass a vote of confidence on the President because of his performance in office in the last one year which has seen Nigeria regaining its deserved respect in the comity of nations. According to him, “the President is doing well and would do more if we reduce the distraction, team up with him and believe in the greatness of Nigeria despite its current challenges.” Adding that “this is a task that must not be taken lightly because Mr President would only have to focus to perform better if these separatists and their sponsors stop distracting the nation with their childish demands.” Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/nigerias-unity-not-negotiable-group-backs-buhari/ |

ba7man: I think the food part is a bit diversion from the original purpose of the thread which is to evaluate the consquences or the likely outcome of the war if Biafra had the weapons Nigeria had and Nigeria had the weapons biafra had., The use of starvation to end the war abruptly was from some people's point of view a confirmation of the military superiority of the Biafran Army over the Nigerian army which sustained more casualties from the war. |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taffy_Williams Noted for his bravery under fire he served two tours of duty with the Biafran Army, rising to the rank of Major and was the last white mercenary to leave the country as secession ended.[1] Williams found his Biafran troops to be completely different from those whom he commanded in Katanga. "I've seen a lot of Africans at war" he was quoted as saying But there's nobody to touch these people. Give me 10,000 Biafrans for six months, and we'll build an army that would be invincible on this continent I've seen men die in this war who would have won the Victoria Cross in another context Williams was assigned one hundred Biafran fighters in early 1968, and managed to keep two battalions of Chadian mercenaries serving with the Nigerian Federal Army at bay for twelve weeks with only antiquated weapons After Williams redeployed his forces in early April, the Chadians forded the Cross River at two locations, and captured Afikpo, a main town on the western side.[3] Completing his first contract and following a brief stay in the UK, Williams returned to Biafra on 7 July 1968. He was assigned to the 4th Commando Brigade led by Lt. Col Rolf Steiner. Steiner had command of 3000 men, and was assigned to the area around the Enugu - Onitsha road. Williams, who liked to joke that he was "half-mad", would personally lead his troops into battle, sometimes standing in a hail of Federal gunfire, just to prove to his troops that he was indeed "bullet-proof". His resolve under fire would often unnerve the more superstitious of Nigerian soldiers and serve to rally his own.[4] On 24 August 1968 Williams was drawn into a critical battle of the conflict. At this point, he had 1000 soldiers under his command which carried out counteroffensives against two battalion-sized enemy units attempting to cross the Imo River Bridge with Soviet military advisers. When Williams returned to Aba for additional ammunition to continue the fight, he was told that there was simply none to be had. The Nigerian Air Force had become quite successful in blocking supplies into the beleaguered state. Some of Williams' men had only two rounds left for their rifles and many were forced to withdraw.[5] Following the arrest and expulsion of Steiner and four others, Major Williams was allegedly the only European still left serving with the Biafran army. He left the state shortly before its collapse. It is thought that Williams, who encountered author Frederick Forsyth there as a war correspondent, served as the inspiration for the character of Carlo Shannon in Forsyth's The Dogs of War (novel).[6] 1 Like |

RockHard: Do you think the problem was from the leadership of Ojukwu or from lack of Ammunitions , here below is an independent verdict from a british , Taffy_Williams who served in the Biafran military as a mercenary , at no point did he blame the Ojukwu Leadership and his verdict can be seen as independet because his country supported Nigeria Williams found his Biafran troops to be completely different from those whom he commanded in Katanga. did anyone notice this For Lagos State, more than 70% of the manufacturing concerns and major industries in the State are owned by the Igbos. If the Igbos were to stop paying tax in Lagos State, the IGR of Lagos State will reduce by over 60%. In contrast, Sir, go to the South East and look at the manufacturing concerns in Onitsha, Aba and Nnewi. Please don't forget those were areas ravaged by civil war a mere forty something years ago. The Igbos have certainly made tremendous progress but the Yoruba nation has regressed. I wish to state that this letter is not meant to whip up primordial considerations or ethnic sentiments but just to put things in proper perspective. 3 Likes |

ABUJA – Presidency Thursday refuted claims in some quarters that president Mohammadu Buhari canceled his trip to Ogoniland, Rivers State for the commencement oil spillage clean up exercise in the region. It rather stated that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo represented the president at the occasion. It will be recalled that the presidential movement to the oil rich land had been widely publicized that even the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on the eve of the trip on Wednesday made a broadcast, calling for calm and support for the president. But at the eleventh hour Wednesday night after his advanced team had arrived Ogoniland, the president detailed his deputy to perform the ritual. But responding to enquiries by Vanguard on why the president failed to appear in person, his Special Adviser on media and publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina said that he was represented at the event by his deputy. “We all went to school.
