CareerRe: Successful Nigerians Who Never Went To A University by aspirebig: 8:46pm On Oct 01, 2014
Success is very relative. I do not know what op is trying to pass across here.

Are you trying to tell us that going to university is not good?. What works for A, may not work B, beware. In nigeria, we all talk about people success without education as if is a walk in the park. ..

It is not written anywhere that a degree result is gateway to wealth, afterall the likes of Bill gate was a school drop, yet held world 1 richest man for years before the other man took over. The truth is that most of these 8 people mentioned couldn't further their education because of some issues they had at that point in time. Like the Nduka man lost his dad at a young age and had to go and learn trade. MJ too failed jamb, even Dr Kalu too had eeasons for to discontinue schooling at the early age and so on, it is not like they had they opportunity to get educated and declined. Some failed due to poor academic results, poor financial background etc. It is important to clarify things to avoid misleading the public in this forum.

It is not by force to go sch, if you like go, if you like no go, but in future when jungle mature, your body go tell u, then maybe u are in your late 40s or 50s.
FamilyRe: Is Marriage A Measure Of Success In Life? by aspirebig:
ITbomb: A picture of a young man coming out of his car with his smiling family to enter his house represent a responsible and successfully man
This is not true in all cases.

@Op, yes, as a black man in Nigeria specifically, marriage is seen as such. In our society, we honour and respect marriage till tomorrow, forget the high rate of divorces you see around, most of them are caused by interference of bad friends and family, living fake lives, no respect for your spouse, incompartibility, lack of money, infidelity, lack of love, lack of tolerance and understanding , lost of job and the woman cannot cope with the new lower lifestyle ...etc.You are accorded more respect after you are married. Your boss respects you more, your colleagues too, your church members, your family, and the society at large. As a matter of fact, in some settings, if you are not married, you cannot occupy certain position.Though in some organisation, it is not an issue.Marriage gives you this air of a responsible fellow. That is why people greet you and ask you, bros how is madam, how is Oga, how is jr, how is baby doing and so on. If you are not married, people will not be asking you all that. Or they will rather ask of your television or car.....lol. So you can see why many regards marriage as success.

I know a man that is smiling with the family, though the couples are graduate, the woman earns more. The man beat the wife, even warned the wife not be be talking to her male colleagues. It is that serious. They have suv, personal house in town, at a point the woman wanted a divorce when they had just their first son. Now they have 3, the woman later give birth to 2 daughters.

Sometime ago, a topic was on Nl that asks " Would you like to marry your spouse again, if given a second chance? I remember the woman saying for her, it is a no, no.

Not all that glitters is gold ooh. It is not by seeing a man smiling with his family , wearing fine clothes in a big jeep, living in a good house, you just conclude that their marriage is successful and they are a happy family.

The hustling of modern day lifestyle is not helping matters in marriage . Our grand parents had fewer riches, lesser money, fame, wealth, houses, cars, education, no six month marriage counselling before wedding, no society wedding where 5 cows were killed for their wedding, no jeeps were used to carry the couples to church, no paying 1 to 2 m naira for a hall for reception, no registry at Ikoyi, no tradition wedding that aso ebi costs 50 to 150k, no dubai, miami, france, ghana, cotonou, SA, paris, london honey moon, no wedding budget of 10m naira,.......the list is endless, yet they were more contended, more lasting marriages, more love, more peace , more tolerance and understanding in marriages, more children...... Then no CS to give birth, no prolonged childless marriages like now, no baby factories in eastern part, no spending millions to have baby...

I had the opportunities of watching him live in pepple street , (where the present ikeja CV is located) performing. Sometime in 1993 to 1994. He was a great musician, he can sing non stop for hours, provided someone is by the corner of the stage to keep handling him his favourite cigar 'weed I mean, from time to time. Once he's stage, no dulling.

See wetin poverty don turn my people thinking to. How can someone open his mouth and yarn say if you are earning 100k naira oo, not pounds, not dollars, not euro , in a month in nigeria, he won't leave nigeria to the west. Hmmmm, with all the inflation, high cost of living, , we see in nigeria, na wa ooo.

What is the quality of life, such money will afford you if you really want to live comfortably.? By the time they 100k naira is taxed, then you deduct your rent, t fare, entertainment, , feeding, clothing, saving, children school fees, family and parents, wetin remain?

Well, I know someone that was earning over 300knaira in one of the most popular coy in naija, she relocated to the west with her 4 kids and the hubby last. She is a chattered accountant, as at the last, she said, she thanked God she left naija to the west, due to better renumeration and living standard, she wisged she hsd relocated earlier.

My people, life generally is all about risk, in sch, our lecturers do say, the higher the risk, the higher the returns, all other things beingcconstant (k). Most people are simply scared of the unknown, they do not want to leave their comfort zone.

Remember that travelling is part of education ooo, no b me talk am ooo, na so e b.The is the same reason why so many naija graduate will attend nursery sch, pry sch, sec sch, university ALL in the same town. Na NYSC go come force them enter luxurious bus for the first time to either east-Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Abia ,etc, Ebonyi, west- Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Lag, Ondo, Osun, etc ,South- Edo, Delta, Rivers, cross rivers, etc, North- Borno, Sokoto, Kano, Kd etc for the first time in life. Joke apart,I am not trying to laugh or insult anyone, we have c lots of people like this in our midst. If you work in HR and see some people CV, you go fear levels.Even some did the Nysc in their state join the schooling too. So it is job seeking that takes such fellow to lag, Abj, Ph, etc. Imagine, still inside naija ooo, interstate travelling b like yankee for some dudes. This was very common in the late 70s to 80s, a lot of things have actually improved now.

The matter plenty jare.

I think it is idiotic for anyone who has an opportunity to leave Nigeria to stay back. Even if not for financial reasons, at least to update your life.

Take a closer look at the environment you live in and tell me if that's where a human being should be living. For those that will mention maitama, Lekki, V.I, etc.just know that exceptions do not make the rules.

Nigeria is too dirty for human habitation. I don't care how much you have in your account. Every thing that makes life worth living is a luxury in Nigeria--clean air, good healthcare, electricity, clean water, etc.

OP you f@cked up big time. Blind patriotism is deadly. The ones who are gaming the system understand this and are busy building their castles anywhere but in Nigeria. You will see the light when you leave that country.

GeneralShepherd: So a job seeker is an immature mind! Great
General,

Did you read and assimilate my post in details? Why are you picking out only the last line in isolation. ?

Immature mind can be seen from responses you see from certain people on this forum, not necessarily job seeker or working class.
TravelRe: On Nigerians And The 'must Travel Mentality' by aspirebig:
mployer: Your problem is commenting without reading. You are probably under-employed here, whatever caused it for you here will still do same over there.

I didn't say my cousins live abroad, I said they have EU passports. Their mum is from Belgium. The schooled here, preferred work here to working in Europe.

I used to wonder within me, if European citizens as they are do not want to return and work in their homeland do to their race what makes me think I as a foreigner will find it easy over there
.
And FYI, you won't do more than wash dishes with that your Nigerian certificate you are bragging about.
You are the person that did not read well b4 commenting. Pls go and read my first contribution again. I am not bragging, ok. They doesn't mean I cannot still relocate to the west in future, if I want my immediate family to have better quality of life. I pay tax heavily yearly here yet , no light to enjoy, I know how much fuel I burn every night on gen , no good roads, no good medical care, no security etc.. As for your so called cousins, probably they are not telling you the complete truth of their situation. They may have problems over there and do not want to share it .Never say never. I don't know you, you don't know me.

Open up your imagination and reasonings guy, never use the cousin conditions to create a standard in your little mind about life, job seekers, living condition of people in abroad, it is very wrong.

The fact that naija is bad in terms of living standard doesn't mean everyone is homeless, jobless, uneducated, miserable. No, we still have some people doing fine, than even some in abroad, just that the ratio is just very small. If 100k students graduate from uni yearly the and just 5k get a good job. Isn't that fail. That is 5/100.or 1/20. That is the thing.
Guy, if I travel abroad to live, I won't wash dishes or deadbody or sweep their houses, ok. No b mouth, I have my qualifications, and good yrs of experience, the ist thing I will do is immediately get my credentials assessed, then probably do another program that will help me to settle in and fit into their systems fast. All my guys over there non of them is doing such job, by the special of God, they are all doing fine and great. So mine won't be different. I am still here, I am not porting yet. I may port I future, God willing, who knows.

In my place, where I come from , there is this adage that you cannot watch dance satisfactorily from one spot, so I see no reason why I cannot leave naija 2moro if I deem it fit to go.

Leave that thing ooo guy, everyone on NL isn't a sec sch leaver or a drop out or job seeker. We still have matured minds on this forum, ok.

Don't be fooled by movies. My cousins have EU passports yet they are here in Nigeria doing average graduate job. Its never easy to get a white collar job as a black man in Europe, don't know about America anyway.
Bro, read my post very well I am still in Nigeria. I am a learned fellow with good qualifications and good years of work experience. If I am to travel now, my case will not be like your cousin's own, ok. Ori yato si Ori.Your cousin is living his own life and destiny, my own destiny is different too.

You better advice your so called cousin to come back instead of adding figures to those in abroad, before it is too late. Or are you sure you are not even the cousin in question. One thing about life is that personal priorities, personal discipline in areas of handling our scarce resources, destiny, prayer, luck, , opportunities all differs. @op,
OYO is your name ooo, i do not buy your idea.By the special grace of God, I am am still in naija doing my bit to make naija a better place. But, you know, do not think because you are blessed in naija that is the end of the world. What is the per capital income of an average Nigerian.

If you decided to stay probably because one person somewhere has promised you an appointment or an elective post, then wait and have your share of the national cake.It is true that you can make it in Nigeria, but also know that many people dreams have died by staying put in Nigeria too. I see traving abroad just like people migrate from the village to cities, it is NOT everyone that make it but at least 75% of those that migrate do make it, and the last time I checked 75% is still an "A".

I have lived in 3 biggest cities in Nigeria, namely, Abj, Lag and PH, with Abj being the most expensive, followed by PH. Ordinary electricity is still a luxury, except you have a gen, inverter or solar,no good roads, no good medical at the reach of an ordinary citizen, no good schools at an affordable rate, life expectancy is among the worst and poorest in the world, no good security, crime rate is high, no street cameras, injustice can be seen everywhere, we are still battling with acute corruption, our leaders are just playing on the people's intelligent. All we have is syncophants everywhere. I do not see this present generation of Nigerians going to enjoy steady power supply in life.No b curse ooo, we are not doing anything in that direction.

There is no plan to provide basic social amenities, infrastructure or something for the young ones look forward to , in Naija. . If you have the opportunity to travel, do so but in the right way, not by selling your family only land when your parents have 7 kids and are still living in a rented accommodation.

Many university graduates are still earning N30k till date, I have seen a 2.1 holder earning less than N50k a month, so if such dude has the opportunity to travel to abroad, and off he goes, will you blame him? NO....When you are admitted into the uni, you only know your admission year but you cannot be so sure of your graduation date, with the strikes we see in our schools.

Our best brains are leaving the country daily, it is no news.Go to the international airports and see for yourself. Many people that cannot dream of owing a brand new car in life, not a Tokunbo ooh, do achieve this in abroad under 3 to 5yrs. In naija, the opportunities are very Limited. Take it or leave it.

However, I do not support those leaving the country without a good education or learned skills-as it is not everyone that has the opportunity to going to the uni or poly. Also, I do not support those going through the desert by trekking, travelling with the ship or hiding in a ship without the right documents. For how long, are you going to be in hiding?
In as much as travelling abroad is good, do not risk your life to the point of death in order to be in abroad.

EducationRe: Should I Go For Nysc Now With A 2.2 Or Drop Some Courses And Rewrite For A 2.1 by aspirebig: 3:18pm On Sep 17, 2014
@op.

Personally, I think it is a 50 50 stuff, meaning, you may make the 2.1 or not. But the ffg factors must be considered first.

1.Your current gp, your course of study, the faculty , and generally the school in particular, diff schs with diff policies.
2. Are these courses 3 units ?
3.How sure are you of making As or at least few Bs in these courses this time?
4. Hope you did not have any previous issues with any of the lecturers taking you these courses, if you do, first resolve the issue b4 retaking the course
5. Have you seek the advice of your CA and other senior lecturers on this?
6. The school gp grading process, for instance, I know that Uniben has a better gp calculating model to some state unis.
7. I hope that the lecturers of the courses in question are not saddist? You know what I mean?
8.Have you critically reviewed, analysed and found what failed you or made you to get low grades the ist instance in these courses?
9.You must work hard on your project work to make A or ATLEAST B, , anything less is unacceptable. Serious!
10. The last and not the least, ask God to guide your steps and grant you your heart desires. Remember that man proposes and God disposes.

In a nutshell, ist class, 2.1, 2.2, or 3rd even Pass do not determine your destiny in life, only God does. You are lucky you still have age by your side.

All the best.

EducationRe: Third Class And 2.2 In Our Federal Universities. by aspirebig: 1:45am On Aug 28, 2014
I do not agree with the OP. Almost ALL schools in naija, I repeat almost ALL schools in naija, they have different slots for the registrar, profs, HODs,Dean etc yearly. If you are opportuned to know any of these people, whether you choose the school as first choice, your jamb score becomes immaterial. But do not forget that there are registrars, and there are registrars, so also, there are profs and there are profs, sames goes for the HODs, dean etc, meaning all profs are not the same oo. Remember, who no go no know! Going to a fed uni doesn't mean you are more brilliant than people that go to the state uni.Going to a private uni doesn't mean you are more brighter than those in the poly, it all depends on opportunity, luck, circumstances, timing, connections and other factors.

The issue of 3rd class or 2.2 could be as a result of many many factors too that played in , or took place while in the uni.Imagine some intelligent students that were on their way to get 2.1 and had a saddist lecturer who a 3rd class in his first degree as a project supervisor. If the lecturer give the student say D in project that could bring the student to a 2.2 considering that project is a 6units stuff, all other grades in other courses being k, constant. Also many 2.2 were people that had say 3.40 to 3.49. , knowing fully well that 3.5 and above is 2.1.

I may not be able to speak for the private uni, because, I am even shocked with way the roll out ist class in those private uni like , they just dash them for their high cost of schooling, tuition fees, accommodation, etc, etc. However, some students from private uni merit their ist class too.Do not get me wrong here.

But coming to the fed or state universities, wow, you must jack wella to get most grades you are given, or you earn like some
lecturers put it. Many lecturers in Naija uni are not ready to just give you grade like that, it is not everyone that you bribe, if you think you can always bribe, as a woman you cannot sleep with all your lecturers, so might be women like you too, so what do you do ?Except if you are exceptionally good. Some will tell you how they suffered in their own days before they got educated and even try to unjustly suffer the students in turn, as for the female students, that one na different thing altogether, they want you to sort, book hotel rooms to sleep with you and they MAYstill fail you at the end. Married women or those wearing ring on their fingers to deceive the lecturers that they are married are not exempted.

Here are some factors that could lead to someone graduating with a poor grade in the uni:
*Self financing, some people sponsor themselves to school, the time of hussling can affect their studies, they may miss some vital quiz, tests, assignments even exams in some cases.
*Studing a wrong course, this make the student to just struggle and be dying in silence and eventually graduate with a poor grade.
*Having extra year in school, automatically, your GP will go down.
*Too much play, some guys go to uni and flex all their time in parties, women, fashion , dragging babes with fellow students /lecturers.
*Sudden death of parents, spouse/sponsor: This could give a big blow to the student emotionally and affect the concentration academically.
*Carry overs:once you start having carry overs from 100L, there are chances that you will not graduate with a very good grade.
*Low grades: If you keep having btw C and E in most cases, , especially the three units courses, OYO is your case, is you are still dreaming of first class or 2.1
*Lack of reading/research: For instance, when you are studing, you not going the extral mile to read up other materials for the course, no textbook, no internet research, but you are always on fb, nl, badoo, etc, hmmm, no references in your assignments, wahala go dey o
*Bad friends /company can easily lead you to fail. Or even lure you to join cult.
*Family issues: Yes, some people are the only graduate or the first graduate in their family, if you are in this category, better be close to God, as sone people in the family that do not have the opportunity you have may attack you with Afican magic.
*Sickness:It is not everyone that is blessed with good health, AA, O+, etc. Some people have serious health challenges, so it could also affect their academic performance too.
*Cheating: some that are caught for cheating automatically fail the course, but they will hide the truth from their friends and family.
*Lack of Prayers: Prayer can help you, for instance if you have a very difficult lecturer, just ask God to touch his or her heart , so you can be favoured by the lecturer. Then, you will be shocked that it will happen.
In all, first class, 2.1, 2.2, 3rd class etc is NOT the end of life. It is only a means to move in life, so whatever you have kindly go to a govt uni , back for a master degree or PGD .It is just a stage, just like when waec was waec before Neco came, a lot of people dread waec more than anything then, but today, some have gotten their PHD.To God almighty be the Glory. Forgive my lengthy stuff, but I believe someone has been learn something in it too.

You know how the Nigeria Police works, you can spend more time and money than you ever imagined, so many people moved on, but guy, it was a big fraud. Do you know how many people paid over 200k in that sch for MBA? I always have it in mind to do a comprehensive thread on this that will expose Clafel, very well.
EducationRe: NUC: List Of Illegal Degree Awarding Institutions Operating In Nigeria by aspirebig:
It is not limited to those listed. Some 419 guys even used unical name to organise and defraud alot of people in Lagos . They had unical Agege campus, unical Omole campus, near Akiode b/stop, Unical Ikeja campus in a sec sch in ikeja etc. They normally used sec sch and run d programmes only on Saturdays and Sundays.

They operate under this name,Clafel educational center, formally at Oyemekun bus stop, they later moved to Ogba just behind one eatery.

Pls if you see anyone with this Clafel name, na 419 ooo, run fast. Nigeria is a big Country and we place so much emphasis on degree, so alot of people who are not opportuned to get their degree when they were younger want it now as a working class.

But, one thing is certain, Clafel may have defrauded people, that curse of eating people sweat by trick is transgenerational. Except, if God is not God, if God is God, those guys will surely suffer for their sin. No pastor can erase that.

These guys used unical name to defraud people, in the name of running undergraduate courses,PGD, M.sc , MBA, and other weekend programmes. A lot of guys who attended the sch were working class guys, from banks, , corporate bodies, business guys, fresh graduates, etc. I believe that most of them are on NL. You need to be in one of those sec schs on weekends to see the type of cars students were driving, being Postgraduates school, it was like the suvs, cars were carefully selected.
One Oye on 080566033915, worked with them, even one Dr Ben , one Ebele that worked with Afribank HQ, also worked with them, they operated btw 2007 to 2010. These guys, Oye and co were employed to assist in lying to the students that the programme was real. They even issue Unical idcards to students, imagine. I think our environment also encouraged these miscreants parading themselves as educational centres. Why would a big sch like University of Calabar allow people to be using their name to defraud people .It is better you go to a govt owned uni, have rest of mind than wasting your time and money on some 419ers and later you wont see result. Shine your eyes well o. Or they will even give you a fake result.
