BigIyanga:

How is it the biggest aviation project in W/Africa? Ghana’ s Terminal 3, Kotoka International Airport, Accra gulped close $300m and can process over 6m passengers a yr.

What other aviation business takes place in kottoka airport in ghana, outside passenger traffic?

In Akwa ibom there's a maintenance hangar, for aircraft maintenance - big bussiness

There is an anchor airline- ibom air state owned- big bussiness.

There is facility for cargo management which ibom air will support- big business.

And there is plans to build an aviation training school, where pilot can get their commercial liscence, right there at the airport.

Tell me what business are in kotoka airport besides passenger traffic handling. Which by the way the new terminal in uyo is designed for 1million pax a year.

Aviation is not only about passenger handling only
If you've ever been to uyo airport, at the entrance of the airport you will see a large Industrial farm, with about 15 gigantic green houses. Those green houses produces, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers etc in commercial quantities, if capacity is expanded, that's another stream of income, that can easily be packed on a plane and arrives any destination around the world fresh, not to talk of our seafood.

With all the big projects in Akwa Ibom state I still wonder why the state is not industrialized or commercialised, they have good roads, table land, affordable manpower, good climatic conditions etc.
Industrlization is a process not a destination.
The process has started in Akwa ibom.
Once our ports are ready for easy evacuation it will speed up the process.
Air Port, about to be updated to international with cargo handling facilities,
Seaport about to commences construction.
Several ventures already started, foreign investors coming in gradually.
Go read up on BUA refinery, OCP fertilizers, sterling oil refinery. Dangote gas pipeline that will Channel gas from ibeno in Aks passing through all Nigerdelta states to Europe via morroco.

By the way do you know any state in Nigeria, that has more accessible and standard road networks within its territory than Akwa ibom.
All the structures that encourages industrial revolution is Bing gradually put in place in Akwa ibom.

I have also asked myself same question. I remember the first day I travel to uyo, I was waooooo! But at thisame time, I later found out that the purchasing power of the people is very low. It was now done on me that this is the reason why most Akwa Ibom's youths don't live in their state.
Is that not the question all over Nigeria?
At least in Akwa ibom we can point to several industries that has opened its doors in the past 8yrs, unlike in other parts of the nation where they are shutting down.
1).Four points by sheraton ikot ekpene. Operated by marriot group.
2). Ibom Air.
3). Ibom Air MRO.
4). Jubilee syringe manufacturing.
5). Electric metering manufacturers.
6).Isreali owned, Mimshack mekavim car assembly plant. Itu
7).ibom specialist hospital
cool. Several general hospitals in the state renovated to 21st century standards.
9). Kings flour mills
10). Greenwell fertilizer
Etc
At least we can point to several ventures in akwa ibom that has started operations not to mention the ocp fertilizer that's under construction by morrocan govt and Aksg, the 200 barrel per day BUA refinery at ibeno under construction.
The 50,000bpd sterling oil refinery under construction in eastern obolo etc.
And the ibom deep seaport.
Great things are happening in Akwa ibom. But the job creation could be better.
Akwa ibom has a population of 7million people. It's difficult to create jobs for all. But the state is trying better than others in the country.

Every state in Nigeria has youths travelling to Lagos and Abuja for employment, so don't single Aks out.

This will rust and depletes like obudu cattle ranch.
You wish!
Bad Belle people.

Uyo airport is the fastest growing aviation destination in Africa today,
Opened its doors for commercial aviation in 2009, in just 13yrs, has added its own airline anchored there, first of its kind in Africa. Ibom air state owned with 7 aircraft in its fleet and counting, awaiting 10 A220 from airbus.

Has completed its MRO, its second runway/ taxiway and at the verge of opening for the public. Etc.

You keep wishing evil, God keeps prospering!

are you sure of this?
No airport in Enugu?
No airport in Anambra?
No airport in Imo?
We just like bogus names/ titles in Nigeria.
What's the meaning of "cargo airport".
Cargo handling is just an aspect of commercial aviation. Specially designated airports for cargo are very rare.
Even FedEx, Ups amazon (prime air) which are the giants of cargo operations in the world operate out of conventional airports.

A cargo operation only requires a specialized warehouse for storage and handling. Like the one being built in Uyo,Nigeria.
Sometimes separate apron but not always.

Does it mean that tha cargo designated airports in Nigeria does not handle passengers services

When it comes to development Benue is lagging behind Delta is far better not to mention Akwa ibom.
Every state has its own unique circumstances. But be grateful for what you have. It could be worse.

There are states currently with no air access. Benue is not one of them.
Not saying it can't be better.
But you can fly in and out of benue is my point.

inform him bro.it’s not all bad with delta although we can do better.delta remains the only state in Nigeria that has two airports.

Cross river has two, building a third one in obudu.
Already had calabar, and bebi.

AKWA IBOM, has eket exxon Mobil airstrip too. In addition to victor attah international airport in uyo.

Remember warri airport was shell airstrip. Just like eket. Until the change of name.

Lagos about to add lekki airport!

Akwa Ibom will be the first developed state in a retructured nigeria; beating the over hype Lagos to it's glory.

This I have seen!!
Can you stop the comparison. Uyo is different from lagos.

FYI lagos is the economic capital of Nigeria, Uyo, Akwa ibom is in A different league.

Lagos is to Nigeria what new York is to the USA.
Let that sink in.

MRO, ready! Ibom air fleet already started being maintained there,
Airbus providing support services for ibom air maintenance team.

Finishing touches for commissioning of the most important aviation investment in West and Central Africa. The MRO ground breaking achievement.
That we all should be proud of.

All 5 ibom air CRJ s are receiving maintenance there as we speak.
Airbus building capacity for the maintenance of the 10 expected A220s that will start arriving soon.

The Airport project in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital, is West Africa's biggest Aviation initiative that will greatly impact the Aviation sector in Africa.
The project is massive, includes:
1). The smart terminal 3 storey building with 5 avio- bridges , capacity of 1million PAX / year.
2). CAT. 9 Apron.
3). Surface Carpark
4). Integrated Access way.
5). Second Runway/ Taxiway 3.5km×60m
6). Integrated Cargo handling terminal
7). MRO ( Maintenance hanger) the biggest in West and Central Africa.

I like the continuity of this project. Attah conceived & started it. Akpabio took over the leader baton and finished the first phase, landed the first aircraft. Udom came on board built on existing infrastructure started IbomAir (one of the best currently in Nigeria) worked on phase 2 of the project.
I hope the next government will not let this project go moribund.
