Much better economy,we sent our kids to schools of our choice,businesses were thriving,cost of living was much cheaper,naira had more value,we could buy fuel with the little coins in our pocket,good medical services was much cheaper,we could travel from one state to the other without first writing our 'will'.When we are aggrieved with the government policy we were allowed to protest without being arrested.People were not judged by the colour of their skin or tribe but on the quality of their character,tribalism was not taken to the level of state policy,the list goes on and on.

When government institutions are headed by tribalist and very petty people,the main goal of the organization will be defeated.Take a look at NDLEA headed by rtd gen. Buba Marwa applauded for his wonderful job of meticulously apprehending drug barons in our society and even the consumers,regardless of whose ox is gored.He is very patriotic and nationalistic in carrying out his duties.
Comparably,this can not be said of these other institutions headed by percieved tribalist,very petty people whose only mission is to get back at those they think are not in the good book of the presidency.Need I mention,NAFDAC,JAMB,EFCC etc,funny enough, these organizations are headed by people from south west. The question is this,nobody complains of tribal agenda in organizations headed by Nigerians of other ethnic group,why always the ones headed by these unrepentant tribalist from the same ethnic group.
As NAFDAC,get the bad boys selling fake drugs to face the law but allow other businesses and business men do there businesses without any form of extortion or disturbance whatsoever.

When Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola and Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, conspired to politically annihilate Chief Obafemi Awolowo, it was Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara, Premier of Eastern Nigeria, who boldly stood on the side of justice and principle.

As Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka records in his memoir, “You Must Set Forth at Dawn”, Dr. Okpara did not just sympathize - he acted. He provided financial and political support to Awolowo’s camp, reabsorbed Prof. Sam Aluko and other loyalists dismissed from the University of Ife into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and sent Mazi Ukonu and the Eastern Nigeria Broadcasting Service to broadcast the authentic results of the Western Region election from Awolowo’s Ibadan residence, directly challenging the state-sponsored electoral fraud.

In an extraordinary gesture of solidarity, Okpara appointed Mrs. Hannah Awolowo, the wife of the imprisoned leader, as Honorary Minister in the Eastern Nigerian Government - equipping her with a Mercedes Benz, chauffeur, and full ministerial privileges. This was not just symbolic - it was an open declaration of interregional support and respect.

Equally important was the role of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik), then President of Nigeria. When Northern leaders sought to transfer Awolowo to a remote prison in the North—where his safety would be uncertain - Zik exercised his presidential authority to ensure that Awolowo was instead sent to prison in Eastern Nigeria, where he was treated with dignity and humanity, against the wishes of the Sardauna and Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa.

This interethnic solidarity was not accidental. It formed part of the broader United Progressive Grand Alliance (UPGA) — a coalition of progressive forces led by the NCNC and the Action Group, which resisted Northern domination and championed democratic ideals.

During this alliance, Dr. Okpara courageously entered Ibadan - despite being declared persona non grata by Akintola - to campaign for the Awolowo faction. His reception by the people was so electrifying and defiant of Northern hegemony that he was affectionately nicknamed “M.I. Power” by the Western Press.

These actions by Eastern leaders — Dr. Okpara, Dr. Azikiwe, and others - represent one of the noblest chapters in Nigerian political history: a moment when ethnicity bowed to justice, and regional differences were set aside in pursuit of a united democratic front.

It is essential that these truths be remembered - not distorted or forgotten. Let no one, out of ignorance or bigotry, erase the fact that it was the East - it was the Igbos - who stood with Awolowo when others sought to silence him.

Nobody is scared of sacking the national clown,just that PDP knows what Wike's plans are.He wants to bring about some level of turmoil with his paid agents in PDP,that will result to litigation and then using 'his judiciary',to put PDP in a difficult position to even present a presidential and other candidates.

This is a warning to all the states that connects to River Niger.Delta,Kogi,Anambra etc.Soludo of Anambra state should make sure that those living along the tributaries of river Niger and on lower grounds,should start moving to higher grounds,sooner or later Cameroon may have to free water from their notorious dam,this is to avoid stories that touches the heart.

I keep saying it,when appointments are no longer on the basis of merit or even when merited,appointees are either briefed to act in a certain way based on the tribal sentiments of the leadership of the day,then all you get is policy inconsistency and ridiculing of once noble institutions. Reference to NAFDAC,JAMB,EFCC,INEC,POLICE,JUDICIARY etc
