PoliticsRe: Nigeria Consul-general In New York - "I'm A Muslim, I Cant Enter A Church" by auwal87(m): 2:32pm On Aug 15, 2012
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said “That which is lawful is clear, and that which is unlawful is also quite clear. Between these two is that which is ambiguous, which most people do not know. One who avoids the doubtful safeguards his faith and his honor.”
Riyadh-us-Salaheen, Hadith 588.

IslamRe: There Is No Compulsion To Islam - Sheik Dr Ahmad Abubakar Gumi by auwal87(m): 1:35pm On Aug 14, 2012
Seconded to this comment by Drzed.

The difference between we Muslims and you Christians is that you take every bad action of any Muslim as being representative of Islam. We muslims do not generalise the bad actions of some Christians as representative of Christianity. Otherwise we Muslims would blame each and every Christian for:

1). The killing of 6 million Jews and 20 Million Russians by Adolf Hitler - with the connivance of German (and some say papal)Church
2). The massacre of millions of native North American Indians by land-hungry European Christians
3). The murdering of millions of native South Americans by the Spanish Conquistadors
4). The byatch-slapping of presumed witches by your pastors, especially those in Nigeria;
5). The molestation of kids by your 'holy' preachers, especially of the Catholic kind.
6)._________________________(Anyone can fill in the blanks here)....
7)....And list more here.
8].......... And even more here.

We Muslims do not generalise. We know that not all Christians are bad, just as we acknowledge that there are bad Muslims among us. So what is the difference between us? Well, you may not believe in what we believe; you may not like or tolerate us, but we judge each and every one of you according to his words and his deeds. The truth is that we KNOW about you because we were told (and warned) about you in the Glorious Quran. But for you, we on the other hand remain a mystery, an enigma, and unknown phenomenon which you love to hate. Simply because you refuse to even 'consider' making an attempt to know us.

Learn to separate a religion (yes, including Christianity) from its practitioners. The former may be ideal, the latter is definitely not, due to human tendency to err.

A little research about what Islam truly means and what a true Muslim is really like, cannot surely hurt you, will it? But no, most of you would rather believe CNN or what others tell you. For crying out loud: READ!

ps: The very first word revealed in the Glorious Qur'an happened to be 'READ'.

Creative mind: This poem talks about the travail of a land, country or nation. It talked about the pains it went through: the plight it felt in the hands of outsiders, how she was maltreated, hw foreigners exploit and extort her to take thns from her, hw she cried for help when she needed one and how they turn'd deaf ears to her cries. I suspect Africa or Nigeria. I think it shares the same concept with my poem titled "THE RAPED VIRGIN" here on nairaland.
You just gave someone a clue to explain better.

Olympic disaster: YSFON boss task Nigeria on way forward

For Nigeria to excel in future Olympic Games, the nation must change her present approach in sports development and primed it to grass root participation through schools sports.

The President of Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna said on Friday in Abuja, that Nigeria as a nation has failed in its quest to excel in the London 2012 Olympics due to neglect of key areas by the authorities in the country.

Gawuna is of the view that if sports development is primed through schools sports the nation stand to reap from the benefit of such exercise because the age bracket for the talents that will be discover will be such that if properly managed, the nation’s performance in future Games will be encouraging.

According to him, YSFON’s experience in the past has shown that given condusive atmosphere the Nigeria child will excel hence the body’s believe that if sports is given the desired attention the fire brigade approach and disappointing results will not be part of the nation’s sports story from the Games.

The Kano born sports administrator while appealing for the understanding of the three tiers of government in the country for the provision of the needed facilities for the training of the sportsmen and women, charged those shouldered with the responsibility of managing sports to be honest in their dealings and place the interest of the nation above personal gains.

He said that the talents that should be picked from the massive investment in sports must be in the age bracket of 15 and 17 years and given special attention in the next eight years as a test run and the country will be on top in the international sports meet.
The YSFON boss added that his organization will continue to support sports development in the country and will not relent in throwing its weight behind any efforts by the government to move the nation forward through sports.

He also declared that the National Sports Festival should not be taken by State sports council as avenue for winning laurels through the recycling of athletes in every of the competition but as a pool to showcase the abundant talents in their respective states.

odumchi: Who is the author of this poem? Most times, poets write poems based on their personal experiences and life stories. Without some background information, it'll be very difficult to decipher this poem.

Nevertheless, I'll attempt. I think the speaker is talking about someone that enters life and experiences hardship and tribulations. In my mind, the "valleys full of shades" represent the times of sadness in life. The person then grew stronger due to the tears (hardship) he/she cried and, at the same time, grew old.

Those hardships which the person experienced became blessings because he/she grew more experienced and will possibly share his experiences with others so that they won't fall in the same path.
Your synopsis is on track, best so far.

Since 2008, nobody was able to explain what this poem is really talking about, not even a guess. It has a vast meaning that a whole book can be written about it, its a literary masterpiece.

I am giving a prize of $100 prize money to anybody who explain the exact meaning of this poem.

Land of Hope

There were you once in a time
Midst of the Valleys full of shades
Full of roasts wired with roots
With molten trees rot to death
While the spillage damaged your veins
You can’t breath even with jokes

There were you once in a time
About to run but the sky is dark
Darkness reign no where to run
Hosts tempting you hard with clout
But you always answer with nerve
They lead you all the way down
Down down to a deadly end
You cry cry and cry
But they cannot hear you cry

Those that hear can’t even tempt
Unless you wake the wonders on
You have blessed the right with care
The left enjoy your open gates
The center you blessed with peace
Up the land you spread your dream
You cry cry and cry
But they can’t hear you cry

Those that hear can’t even tempt
Unless you wake the wonders on
Now is time for you to take your pride
Share your blessings with the guarded hosts
Peace shall reign and evil shall perish
The Light shall come and stay forever with you

Update: Video has been removed by Youtube! Reason? Try playing

Boko Haram asks President Goodluck Jonathan to resign and says it will not dialogue with the Federal Government.

The Jamaatu Ahlis Sunnah Lil Daawati wal Jihad, popular called Boko Haram, says it is not negotiating with any government representative and has no plans to do so.

The group, in a half-hour video made in Hausa and posted on YouTube, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to resign, and also accept Islam.

The video appeared more of a tirade of abuse with the group offering no logical explanation or reason for its demands and positions.

In the video, which was made by the group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, in the form of an Islamic lecture, the group claimed that it doesn't kill “women and children,” but those “who have offended us, arrested our people and killed them.”

The group also claimed that some people were committing evil acts in its name and that it would go after such people.

The group also rejected any plans by the Federal Government to legislate on the number of children Nigerians can have, describing such proposal as “blasphemy.”

The Federal Government has made dialogue with the Boko Haram sect a major way of curtailing the group’s insurgency in Northern Nigeria.

Ahmed Dasuki, the National Security Adviser, had pledged to seek ceasefire with the group before the commencement of the Islamic month of Ramadan which entered its 16th day Saturday.

Despite Mr. Dasuki’s efforts however, the group became more daring in its violence during the period; attacking police formations and the Vice Presidents’ residence.

Two Northern Emirs, in Borno and Yobe State, also escaped death in separate suicide bombings linked to the sect, which has caused the deaths of several people in the north of Nigeria.
Sheikh Gumi does not fit the profile of suicide bombers and violent criminals which the usual suspects attribute to Islam, hence important news stories such as this will not be found in mainstream media.

A few extremists do not and cannot be allowed to define Islam, more Sheikh Gumis should speak up backed by the fire power of the Nigerian Army, Airforce, and Navy. We are at war.
So they try to kill the message and keep it deep down away buried. Imagine if he said something like Boko Haram are seeking their rights or something similar. The tempo would have been crazy.

Late Sheikh Ja'afar would have been the first if he were still alive, he will definitely speak out. Zakzaky is a Shi'a leader, if he speak out and the BH kill him, that will open new chapter in the crisis. So he better stay mute on this. But Emirs need a Joint statement be made public to strongly condemn the BH and their beliefs and activities.

This is what Sultan of Sokoto and other Emirs could not utter, but their silence didn't stop the evil group from targeting them. So it is even better to comment on them and be killed on purpose.
PoliticsSheikh Gumi: Boko Haram Are Not Real Muslims by auwal87(op): 6:52am On Aug 04, 2012
SaharaReporters has gathered that there are serious security concerns over the safety of Sheik Ahmad Gumi following his critical statement against sectarian bombing that targets innocent people. In a Ramadan sermon delivered yesterday, the Islamic cleric declared that it is not Islamic to inflict death on others, adding that those killing innocent people are ignorant of Islam’s core teachings.

A source who prays at Sultan Bello Mosque, Kaduna, where Sheik Gumi teaches daily told SaharaReporters that security has been stepped up at the mosque. “There are security concerns and fears,” said the source, adding that “Sheik Gumi has spoken with a bluntness and bravery that no other cleric has shown so far.” A senior Nigerian police officer in Kaduna confirmed that security around the sheik and Sultan Bello Mosque had been tightened.

A Kano-based Islamic scholar told SaharaReporters that he would not be surprised if some extreme elements tried to attack Mr. Gumi. He stated that the sheik was right “in making it clear that all those carrying out suicide bombings and killing people are not real Muslims, but misguided heretics who have completely deviated from Islam.” The scholar praised the sheik for “preaching that there is no justification for those using bombs to kill fellow Muslims and non-Muslims with whom there should be neighborly trust.”

Mr. Gumi’s sermon against the incessant violence in Nigeria is widely seen as a direct reproach to Boko Haram militants who frequently claim credit for deadly explosive attacks. The source who attends Sheik Gumi’s mosque said Muslims all over Nigeria should be proud that the cleric has affirmed that any suicide bomber who kills innocent people “will not see God.”

“Sheik Gumi kept repeating that there is no way those doing [these killings] will make heaven, without repenting to Allah.”

Mr. Gumi also challenged other Muslim clerics and teachers to boldly preach against killings and other acts of violence that threaten to tarnish the image of Islam.

The Kano-based scholar urged Muslims in the country to pay heed to other messages from the courageous cleric in Kaduna. “If other clerics become like Sheik Gumi, we will soon overcome the situation we are facing.”

In his sermons, Sheik Gumi has charged all Muslims to stand up, and save their religion from present challenges. The cleric also condemned today’s suicide bombing attack that targeted the Emir of Fika.

Sheik Gumi has called on those mounting the attacks to renounce violence, and suggested that they be granted the same kind of amnesty extended to Niger Delta militants.

The cleric, who has a reputation for fearlessness, is the son of the late famous Sheik Abubakar Mahmud Gumi. He is based in Saudi Arabia where he lives with his family.

I hope they will also offer the like of Google Apps for Business, where companies can host their email. They will drive a lot of companies especially if their price is lower than Google's own per user. Google is currently giving 25GB per user at $50 per year, a company of 100 employees will pay $5000 every year for their employees' email service.

Outlook looks sleek and loads faster than Live, but it still has to take you to Live when editing your profile. I think they will transfer the interface of Live to look as Outlook is now. My only suggestion would have been to retain the live and add additional email offerings like the way Yahoo added Rocketmail and Ymail, they should have just made Live look better, then offer @Hotmail @Live @Outlook @MSN. This would have been better in my opinion.
