Suggestion: A lot of reasons that kept people away from learning technology online, including the instruction, access to this training, and the very nature of our people regarding learning something new. For instance, even people that only know how to install CMS can still purge ahead and learn something new, a proverb which says stepping on a mat by the person intending to fly is a progress. So, they can still improve and become experts in something they are good at. If the cause or mission is to create as much professional designers and developers as possible, then creating an online portal providing training, with instructions from professionals is a starting point, motivating the learners to progress and become professionals too is another challenge though. It is possible to convert the Nigerian image of fraud and 419 with that of professional IT gurus. |
When i said at least - i meant if you do just one single job, even if it is low-budget - you can make 50 to 100k straight up. And you can make that in less than 24 hours too. Just saying. . . (notice i used the word least)
Oh yes, I was just elaborating more on what you said. |
databoy247: ^^^^ errmmm, so if i design 3 logos, install 4 joomla, customize 3 wordpress, and develop 2 contents i should be talking about over 100k a month shey? What drives demand to India was cheap prices per hour, if an American is working at $60 - $80 per hour, then an Indian will work for you at $30 to $50 per hour, in must cases with the same result. So a Nigerian can also drive demand by giving the same quality as Indians at a lesser price, maybe starting from $15 to $50 per hour. |
databoy247: Talking about web developers and money making. I have always nursed the idea of majority of us coming together (even if its not done in other countries, it can be done here in Nigeria) and kinda setting up a union. We hold a developers conference, were a decision can be reached on maybe setting up a body that regulates the web developers business. I believe with this, activities will be co-ordinated and proper records can be kept. Now, with this it will be easier to create a freelance web portal where all webmasters can be registered. Possible clients (around the world) can easily seek out freelancers from the portal and in no time Nigerian web developers will be "occupied". This freelance portal will be controlled by the registered regulatory body and if this happens, in no time, Nigerians will be known across the globe as a center for web development. Trust me, we do have some great developers and programmers. The work of the Nigerian Computer Society should have involved what you suggested, but I cannot see any benefit of this body to date. ![]() |
databoy247: Believe me, some people will get paid just to help install joomla and drupal. So also, others who will get paid just to design logos for websites, and also plenty of money for linux server administrators alsoAn average price of a logo is $30 (which is equiv. to N4,500), a freelance graphics designer can design 3 to 5 logos every week, which will generate N13,500 for him/her. I say this is more than enough to take care of family of 4 in Nigeria. |
I have been trying to figure out the reasons why most Nigeria's developers haled from Lagos. Being most developed state in Nigeria, doesn't mean it should produce all the developers. This is not a criticism, I want to know how Lagos came about to produce such number so that the same method can be applied in other states. Millions of jobs can be created in web development, by creating demand not only from Nigerians, but from outside the country, like the way Indian developers are in demand, it will seriously ease unemployment and bring some sanity especially in the North. For example; Earning $50 per week as a freelancer is conservatively possible, that is equivalent to N8,000 roughly, or N32,000 monthly. This is just a conservative figure, a freelancer can earn much more than this. If we can bring about a solution to this, we can presumably change the lives of so many Nigerians. Please let's have a constructive discussion about this issue. |
Don't start another wahala! |
gboss4sure: Thats CBN OfficeNo, that is the Kano State Governor's Office! Those guys in suits are mostly the Kano governor's aides and security, they have nothing to do with the CBN, please people. |
eGuerrilla: I thought all financial institutions in Nigeria had some type of dress code. That wasn't the central bank please. It is the Kano state governor's office!!! |
Nezan: Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Aminu Sanusi appeared in chieftaincy regalia in his office today to the chagrin of workers. Mr. Sanusi was recently conferred with the title of Dan Majen of Kano by the Emir of Kano ,Alhaji Ado Bayero.I wonder where sahara reporters get this report. That was Kano state governor's office, not the central bank. Please. |
What's your point?
You said most facebook users of Nigeria are in diaspora, so I asked, aren't there nairaland users of Nigeria in diaspora? |

Translated to English President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Issofou said he is ready to go to war in Mali, his neighboring country, in order to resolve the crisis currently derailing the country. Speaking with newsmen in London after meeting with British Prime Minister, David Cameron, President Issoufou said there are several terrorist organizations currently operating in Northern Mali. He further said he will present his demands to the UN Security Council on Wednesday in New York. He also warned of the presence of terrorist training camps established by some people from Afghanistan and Pakistan in Northern Mali.

LoL It is good to know something, anybody can create that site in less than 1 hour. the guy used elgg (nothing innovative) nice try by the way, and goodluck. |
Seun: Implemented!!Where is it? |
afam4eva: Then he will have to sit down and watch his business fold up.Facebook is now the Best Short Seller in U.S History! Destined to crash even further? ![]() |
most are in the diaspora.
And no Nairaland members in the diaspora? ![]() |
texazzpete: Apple is NOT richer than the US government. They have more cash on hand, that's all.Talking about equity, Google is richer, though Apple is richer than Google. Well, Facebook is no longer, and I repeat, is no longer a big fish. |
Seun: Hello Nairalanders,You should really tackle them. Forum cannot survive with spammers having their feast on it. |
Well guyz, Mr. Zuck is not the only decision maker in Facebook now, in fact as it is now, Zuck can be fired, Yes ![]() So if the Investors feel their investment is at stake then apparently they will have to secure their investment by moving it to a secure place. |
texazzpete: This is a laughable topic posted by someone with little knowledge of the tech industry. To stage an acquisition of facebook will cost tens of billions of dollars...cash Apple, google and Microsoft will be loathe to spend. You really under estimate Google and Apple, don't you? I would like it if you check on Google's current value, sometime last year, it was declared that Apple is richer than the US Government So in my opinion, these are the only 2 corporations in the US that can out rightly acquire Facebook without getting any headache. |
damilola15: My guess is that these companies might not be willing to quick their necks out for Facebook but Zuckberg himself might approach them (or other companies) to save him.He doesn't need to approach them, I remember when Microsoft expressed interest on Facebook some years back, Zuck willingly rejected, Microsoft's interest on Facebook was the reason why its value was hiked. If I could remember well, they offered $10billion at the time! |
mrperfect: Well is possible but don't expect it soon.It may be soon. Consider saving a sinking ship! Will they let it to sink first before saving it?? |

Good. Arrest and charge the CEO |
DNA can solve the puzzle, do it 3 times!! |
From Facebook to Twitter, lolzzz ![]() Nice 1 |
punnonline: plus i really dont understand the following/followers button. Its a bit like a notification feature, but then nairaland has no stream/wall to display the updates the user followed. So they need to create some element on the front page (which seun and some users will really hate to see), to display the updates. |
Look at the drop
|
Since Facebook went public in May, its share is plunging, now below $27. In my opinion, I think either Google or Apple will acquire Facebook when its share drop below $18. What is your say about the future of Facebook, not far from now, maybe in this year. |
Nice work, don't forget security and privacy. |
I know you are working hard to make the site better, but am surprised to see the Preview button missing. Sometimes its nice to preview your post especially when posting with picture or video to make sure you don't post codes only. Please shoot it back. Thanks! |
