well at my level, having read many unwarranted abusive posts when i first joined nairaland i have vowed not to engage in exchanging words with people. there is a  saying that "an adult doesnot dance naked in the open" well, surfice to say that by your attacking my user name you have succeeded in making a fool of yourself and portrayed yourself as a product of a background moulded with criminality and bad upbringing. first of all there are worse user names than awoof in Nairaland nobody in his right senses has used that as reference point in reacting to posts. you think i will join other Nigerians who will say a different thing in the open, but say a complete different thing while relaxing in their sitting room. if you think kidnapping innocent foreign and local oil workers and collecting ransom be4 releasing them is the best way to fight injustice then the word terrorism has changed its meaning. why dont you ask your governors in the niger delta what they have done with the huge monies they have been getting all these years, before you and your people paint Nigeria red with your inborn criminality. a people that have no regard for education will continue to suffer  and lag behind even if they are allowed to control the so called oil wealth 70% QED

why should i hate seun? when he is making me to be as proud as a peacock among my colleagues from even advanced countries that have most of their nationals being highly computer literate. You know what catches them mugu? it is the red cube that moves up and down on some sorts of rules on the reply page. anytime i am typing a reply they always flock around my desk to ask what is this red thing, then i do tell them that it is one brilliant young man from my country that designed the page, they marvel that a bloody African can do what Portuguese, Australians and some other nationals are seeing for the first time seun keep it up

i have been reading your posts, i should say i have been highly impressed by your smooth flowing English and the way you marshal your points with all sense of maturity. But my man, i must say i am a bit disappointed with your post on this matter. though i do not know your age, but if good English and logical reasoning are the yard sticks to determine ones age i would say you are a matured person. I thought our Nigerian press and some very "patriotic" Nigerians said Ghana has achieved 24 hours non stop power supply, if you are one of those spreading that dubious fallacy, listen to the entry (today) of a Ghanaian lady in one reporters' competition just begun on the BBC (radio). I laughed at the folly of many Nigerians when i heard the way the girl reported the story, she even drilled their country's Minister in charge of that sector in their country and the man confirmed the lady really caught her in a tight conner. Apart from that she interviewed tens of ordinary Ghanaians on the street, there is nothing from their responses that showed there is uninterrupted power supply in Ghana. I know with this revelation the argument will change.

i agree with you 100% but in his case that was what caused his embarassment. He was taken somewhere and thoroughly frisked i had to wait for him for minutes agitated because most of other passengers had commenced boarding procedures.

I pray the Nigcoomsat1 works and i think it will put the world Bank to shame. i read a news story some time ago that they said it will take Nigeria 1000 years to interconnect our schools

my own experience was in the year 2001 i was going to Lyon . when we arrived Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris almost all the Nigerians carrying the green passport and were going to the far East were asked to step aside, but those ending their trips in France were allowed in without any harassment. I was passed without any problem because i travelled with my blue official passport. at the same time i agree with wa do mi's first post that the way you are dreesed could earn you disrespect at some immigration posts. An example was in 1996, i was coming home on leave from Bosnia through Schipphol Amsterdam with another Nigerian colleague who dressed like all these American gangster rappers. when we were about to proceed for boarding of the Swiss Air flight, he was next after me they passed me because i was dresed simply in a jeans and T-shirt. There are a whole bunch of reasons that could be responsible for that . The only occasion i almost got embarrassed was 1997 at the boarder between Germany and Austria. we were six colleagues that travelled from Zagreb Croatia by bus heading for Stuttgart to buy cars. At the immigration point one guy collected my green passport (i used to have shengen visa on it) he would look at my picture then at my face up to three times then i became livid with rage i shouted at him " my friend you think you find it difficult to match that picture and my face?" he just returned my passport in a jiffy without uttering a word. Caveat emptor! you have to be sure of your status before you can act like that o! Our experience i Stuttgart/Helbron during the six days we stayed there is another post for another thread

maybe we need to actually look for a source that will tell us what jazz is all about. From my own list i gave in my oldies jazz artistes, i know in most cases the owners of the bands specialised in one instrument, use that as the lead instrument, while other instruments accompanied them and in most cases they stick to this as their symbol, they even snap pictures for their albums holding such instruments. as such:
Bob James 'was or' is a keyboard virtuoso, Grover Washington Jr is a saxophonist so also is Dave Koz et-al, our own Fela; and Tee  Mac is a flutist. Eric Gayle was a great electric guitarist, Ralph Macdonald was the greatest ppercussionistof that era, he appeared in almost all the jazz albums then. as a matter of fact there was a lot of collaboration among the artistes then. pick any album you will see most of these artistes i mentioned featuring. Ralph Macdonald even featured our own great Jimi Solanke in one his albums then . Jimi made some voice introduction in Yoruba. Also at that time Wyton Mersailis (perdon if i cant get the actual spelling of the names its been long tried out our dear talking drum in one in one of his albums.
On a lighter mood. In those good old days when we were just coming into jazz world and actually it was Grover WWashingtonwe first knew, we thought he was deaf because most of his works never had vocals

i have read most of the posts in this thread its like people tend to beleive that Europeans know about Africa better than Americans, that is if somebody can convince me that Bosnia and Herzegovina (part of former Yugolslavia) is not in Europe. I was there in early 1996 to late 1997, as a matter of fact i lived in Mostar, where one boy asked me where i came from, i said i was from Nigeria, the next question he asked me was that "do you have earoplanes in your country" i was mad, and i answered him sarcastically that "no i walked all the way here from my country"

well, the best i know was that abacha gave licences to some companies in Nigeria, none of them did anything reasonable and to be sure i know what i am talking about, one of the people he gave the licences to was the Chagoury family (you know them?) well no be fight o! can you please educate me better on the process before OBJ came to waste 8 years. we are all learning maybe at the end i will be better educated

with all that have been posted on the thread, one thing i have noticed in my Nigerians is that we are fiery speakers and writers when it comes to criticizing government policies. maybe some of us are forgetful, India today is not just one of the leading nations in ICT, they are a nuclear power so also is Pakistan. I doubt if both countries have finished "putting food on the tables" of all their citizens. and for your information India is the dominating country in the ICT sector of the almighty United Nations today and as a matter of fact in my location here in Dili, all the UN staff in the CITS section are "ALL INDIANS" i am sure when their government was investing in this sector if they were Nigerians, they would have said they should wait until there is food on their tables. we are all benefitting from GSM and other phone facilities, probably we should have asked OBJ to wait and " put food on our tables" before auctioning the licences. the problem is that many of us hate to hear that name OBJ, i pray that many of us will be alive by the time we start realizing the usefulness of some the groundwork he has made. as far as i am concerned since the time i have grown up to be called an adult till today this is the most progressive government i have seen in this country Nigeria. on a final note if you are in Lagos, Abuja and some other urban centres without jobs pack your bags and head back to your town or village  go and engage in little farming on the wasting family land and stop waiting till any leader will put food on your bug infested tables. i am an Ekiti man none of the people who remain at home in my state will blame OBJ for not feeding them, because they farm and they feed well. they may not have cars or may not have built mansions , at least they are not part of the crowd blaming OBJ for not putting food on their tables.

i am sorry folks particularly my Edo brothers and sisters if i have been hash by my reference to the Italian connection phenomenon. afetr moving round the capital here, i have been able to locate some dvd/cd shops where i have been able to pick a few pirated copies (from Indonesia). suprisingly, cds/dvds from Indonesia have better quality than those  in Nigeria and they are all cheaper only $1.00. (N130.00) they even have them on mp3 based cds. i was able to get one mp3 cd of almost all Yanni's collection i play it for hours. i have also been able to buy 1 Dave Kosh collection of his bests, its fantastic, so also a cd of Joe Sample of the good old days 'The Crusaders' i know i will pump up my collections a lot before i scram from this location

I did not know that this kind of thread was already on Nairaland be4 i posted mine yesterday, infact i was doing the seach for responses when i stumbled on this. whew! i was extactic. having gone through a lot of the posts i now know there a great number of jazz faithfuls in nairaland. my own problem is that i have been a jazz lover since the late 70s and i used to have quite a large number of cassette recordings but i have lost all over the years. i started looking for some of my favourite artists and i was lucky i ran into one guy at Ladipo that sells pirated cds he was able to get some for me, but most of them are not the old generation i am used to. so will anybody tell me where in Lagos i can get original jazz cds or if you are abroad(out of Naija) we can talk so that we arrange how to go about it (about cost) and how to get to my present location. some of my favourite artistes are: Bob James, The Crusaders, Eric Gayle, Grover Washington Jr., Earl Klugh, Wyton Mersalis, Cedao Watanbe, Ralph Macdonald etc etc.and most probably this great blues icon BB King. By the way does anyone know about one Nigerian called Peter King (Peter Oba)? He returned to Nigeria from abroad sometimes early 80s and i thought he is a great jazzist, but he just went under since all these years .
