I have taken time to read through all the posts from page 1-12 as at the time I am typing this post, I have not seen any concrete link to prove this unwarranted talk ascribed to O/Winfrey, knowing that Nairaland has web crooners and the fact that many said they watched the show and never heard anything of such. My conclusion is that the Punch story may have been a misrepresentation of facts. Having said that I wish to say here that those that feel that because they have successfully 'escaped' to USA, Britain,Canada etc and probably because they now carry the passports of those countries they are no longer Nigerians, no problem. I will not mention names here, but the renegades know themselves one of them had to beg in another thread sometime ago when patriotic Nigerian hit him hard. Those in this category should learn from DBLOCK. He is a young Nigerian in Australian living a good life, but all through his contributions to threads relating to Nigeria in NL, he has never failed to let people know that he is a patriot, others in his circumstance should learn from him, whether carrying a police badge or doing menial jobs in those places, Nigeria will not remain like this for ever. Fellow Nairalanders, let us not behave as if the discovery of oil in Ghana has turned us to jealous beings. There is no basis for that. In my own case i congratulate them if it is true. I am used to this kind of news because even in Liberia, a Liberian will tell you that every pint of the Atlantic ocean in Liberia is oil, i hope the Ghana story is true. I know no Ghanaian in his right senses will ever compare Nigeria to Ghana and for those of you who have never visited Ghana like me, please stop peddling rumours about Ghana achieving 100 years of non stop electricity. i mentioned it elsewhere in Nairaland a couple of weeks back, the very next day i heard a documentary entry of a Ghanaian lady in a BBC organized competition. The story was her entry for the contest it is about the sorry state of Ghana's power sector. Some of us still spread this false rumour. The only area of human endeavor that Ghana has rivalled us for decades is soccer and for years until the ill fated London friendly, we have been beating them, and i hope they will not be carried away by that victory because it is on record that we do not do well in friendlies. I wish them all the best.

AMERICAN FOOTBALL impossicant. it is mere wishful thinking when America is regretting not embracing soccer earlier than now. In any case it is AMERICAN football need i say more? Perhaps if  the proponents relocate to Britain they will start advocating rugby for Nigeria . Just for my education, how many other countries play the game apart from America?

majority of the contributors on this thread beleive that Lagos is dirty when compared to most cities of cognate status in the world, but the annoyance of some of us is that we do not need any foreigner, (who do not see anything good in us anyway) to tell us that. There is a way you will tell somebody the truth about anything bad in him/her that he/she will take it in good faith. have newspapers in Nigeria not published worse stories about the same problem? and when a supposed Nigerian or Nigerians begin to condemn anything Nigerian the way quite a few have done on this thread and on some other threads relating to Nigeria, you should suspect that something is wrong some where and that is why i reacted the way i did in my own case, and i am ready to take on anybody that belongs to that group.

I am sorry i have not in anyway endorsed your false claim on Liberia being better than Nigeria, if i said i can write a 500 page book on development in Liberia it does not mean that i endorsed your claim. anyway the English language is versatile to the extent that people can manipulate it either ignorantly or with the aim of promoting mischief. I still repeat, with my experience in Liberia, if it is true that there is life after death, i will prefer to come back as a Nigerian 1million times rather than as a Liberian. i hope that is better put

Please in which area is Liberia more developed than Nigeria i am kind of curious. Is it the same Liberia where i stayed continuously for 1 year six months and travelled far and wide. Please o educated me better so that others can know the harm we do to Nigeria by saying what we do not know or trying to be mischievous. I can write a 500 page book on anything about Liberia. thanks for rescuing me from the claws of el-rufai who has tagged me a tribalist. When i saw his post, you had already responded, and i thought that should be enough for him. much as i do not enjoy going into verbal war with any nairalander, methinks what he should have addressed is if any of what i wrote was a lie. If saying what i know is the truth qualifies me to be a tribalist, then call me an arch tribalist  i will not bulge. I have said it elsewhere in Nairaland that i do not belong to the generation of Nigerians that will say something different outside, but when they get back home relaxing in their living room with friends from their ethnic groups, they say a complete different thing.

Perhaps it will interest el-rufai and others in his camp that by my early cosmopolitan upbringing, i have lived with people from all parts of this country, and up till today most of my best friends are Igbos, Hausa/Fulani, Edo/Deltans etc. I am a public servant i am subject to serve anywhere in Nigeria without any question and I am well equipped for that. i have reached a level in life where i do not 'hide behind a finger' like my late uncle always said. When i am with my friends from other parts of the country we do talk about all these things , we agree at times and disagree also depending on the strenght of the argument. I remember myself and some colleagues travelled to Stuttgart Germany in 1996, i happened to share a room with my mate and very close friend from Sokoto royal family. an argument ensued between us over an issue of Yoruba and Hausa, we argued vigorously all over the night, at the end of the day we reached an agreement and up till today he is still one of my best friends among our mates.

May God Almighty continue to bless you more in your daily endeavors. This Jakumo of a guy i doubt if he is a Nigerian at all. His first post on the thread made me go back to read many other threads that deal with Nigeria, this has made me to know him better. initially i was disappointed, but after finishing my research i have decided to leave him to his stupidity. The only good thing about him is that he writes good English. I have jumped into 2 possible conclusions for his hatred for anything Nigerian: first it is either he is not a Nigerian, second if he is a Nigerian, he is probably blaming everybody for allowing him to leave the country and be suffering in a white mans country.

You are a good example to him, Kenny Ogungbe (keke) and D 1, are there, i have friends that were abroad, they schooled and immediately they finished their education, they came back and i can assure you they are not regretting it, most of my nephews and nieces are all over Britian and the US. Take a Look at John Fashanu, he was born and brought up in England, their late father abandoned five or six of them for their poor mother. ( i stumbled on their story in an edition of New Nigerian at the Local Govt library, Suleja when i was serving in the area 1984 and i followed the story to the end), but that Nigerian blood in him and his late brother late Justin (who unfortunately got consumed by the western civilisation that Jakumo loves so much  ) despite opposition from their mum and their senior brother, they made sure they came back home and you all know that Lagos is almost John's first home now, and that was somebody who never stepped his foot on Nigerian soil right from birth until that time.

We should just leave Jakumo and his  band of idiots who have been enslaved by inferiority complex to the extent that they can not mention any good thing about Nigeria. whether they like it or not that country will rise and those of us that beleive in her will not be disappointed by the grace of God

I will say 2 things here; the real 419 had been existing before yahoo yahoo hit the scene, some of the real guys that collect heavy pay don't even know how to operate computer not to talk of browsing the web; secondly, creation of jobs alone will not stop 419 in Nigeria. the reason why most of the big time 419 do it is greed, you want to be like Ajudua, and others that made cheap money from crime, you want to ride Lexus,S-Class, Hummer etc. My fear is that 419 may never stop in Nigeria as long as we have greedy and criminally minded whites who receive letters from unknown persons to assist them move out the money their fathers stole from Nigerian treasury and they jump at such offers. the only way we can check it is to make the laws that deal with anybody caught very harsh like Ribadu is doing now so that most of the others will wake up, but you know us prison does not mean much to an average criminally minded. the next thing you will hear is that many Nigerian big men have been to prison

God bless you, told them well well. I was not born in Lagos i be ara oke as we used to be called then, but i came  Eko Adele early in life, did my primary school there. Maybe i should tell some people (i dont want to mention names) that that same old Lagos before "foreigners" we know them bombarded the place, it used to be very clean and peaceful. My first destination was Randle Avenue in Suru Lere, you need to see how clean and peaceful that area used to be other parts of Lagos then. In those days Lagos was so organised that they had a unit we called "majamaja" i guess someone bears that in nairaland , they used to patrol round picking any stray dogs on the street. In those days also you could not ride a bicycle without a licence.

The dirtiest places in Lagos today are places where these "foreigners" live and trade. I was shocked what i saw in Lagos at the peak of June 12 crises. You need to see how orderly Lagos turned out to be when most  of the"foreigners" without any prompting unilaterally decided to pack and leave for their enclave, thinking that June 12 has accorded them the realisation of a once botched dream, the scenario was similar to what you have 2 weeks b4 and after Xmas. total sanity and orderliness.

Before i digress too much, the main reason why Lagos is at this present state is the unchecked influx of different characters to the city, afterall their mentality is that "Lagos is a no mans land" My usual answer to them is no problem it is true, put your mothers foot in front and follow it with your fathers, go to any part of Lagos that still has vacant land together with your surveyor that you want to cut your own because Lagos is a no mans land, i am sure you and your surveyor will not live to hear the true story.

for those who are boasting that they have never visited and will never visit Lagos let them tell us thier own area in Nigeria some of us have travelled round, we will tell them. It is not enough for somebody who is busy washing some stone cold white corpses turned purple in a morgue, or that is flushing and cleaning some whites sh,  t abroad, or packing and washing some filthy white men's remnant  to start writing rubbish about Lagos or Nigeria. enough is enough

even though your last post sounded poetic and i could not really say for sure what you meant, but the literary background in me makes me to decipher that you called for a truce. well it is the hallmark of a Godly man to seek for peace after a quarrel. I do not want you to see me as some body that supports the terrible situation in the Niger delta. My argument has been, it is still, and will ever be that the modus operandi of these boys is fast making them to lose sympathy. Maybe you do not know the type of psychological trauma that these hostages go through daily. as a foreigner you sleep and wake up seeing all these deadly weapons, in the midst boys that smoke weeds and drink kainkain all day, the normal fear is that they may change their mind and execute them any minute, it is not a palatable experience. anyway no foreign government takes them seriously any more, all they do is that if any national is kidnapped, all they do is get the Embassy to arrange the crisp dollars they requested for and pronto they are released. They can not fight injustice like this!!!

Go search for the story and feed me back if the supposed "conscription" was not supposed to be his own share of the 1 year compulsory military service.

errr, in Isreal everyone 18 and above must do compulsory military service. The tennis player Shahar Peer had to take a yr off the WTA circuit to go do hers. I think most countries have something akin to what we have but trust us to always pooh pooh our own little efforts. I'm sure if the US did something like that most of us would be singing its praises even more than the americans themselves.

God bless you, i have decided not to contribute to this thread until i read your post above. Most of the advanced countries have programmes akin to our own NYSC, and military in nature. Maybe i should remind some of the posters that the world renowned boxer was once jailed by the US government because he refused to do his compulsory 1 year service in Vietnam and when he came out of jail, he lost his H/weight championship fight woefully. I am not saying that the way it is run is perfect, but it is a national service and we all owe it a duty to make it work. Like somebody said, it is not compulsory if you are from an affluent family and you feel you will not work in the public service nobody will force you, or you feel that you can stand on your own after your graduation. I think it is meant for people who will work in the public service, because at one point or the other in your carrier you will find yourself in an area other than your own. As for me i did mine in a village in Niger state, prior to that time i had never lived a village life in my life, but at the end of it i made the best out of it. Come to think of it my own NYSC is a continuous one because i can be posted to any part of Nigeria, no qualms i was prepared for it

you can continue to write from now till the next millennium, i will never change my stance that kidnappin, killing and throwing bombs is not the way to fight against injustice, you say you are from Umuahia, if you were not born or still a baby when Nigeria was at war with its self, then ask elders around you. I am sure the wise ones among them will tell you that war does not do anybody any good. Granted that they carry out their usual threat of blowing up all major oil installations in their area, so the roads, bridges, schools food etc etc will rise from the ruins. Some of you hide behind situations to want to prove that you are after justice. supposing you were in Dr Jonathan's village the day they bombed his private home and you sustained some injuries, will you still be praising CRIMINALS whose modus of fighting injustice is to kidnap for ransom and even engage in pure robbery.
