Thereby the report of an "arranged" marriage to Joseph to cover her from charges of illicit sex shouldn't have been hold by the pharisees and scribe. Perhaps that was the reason why they didn't believe in Jesus christ since they expect him from a virgin and not a "married" woman.

My point here is Mary is well known to these Rabbis as a 'saint' and 'virgin' so the idea of "arranged" marriage with Joseph is not hold. They could have used the "prophecy" that a "virgin will beget a son" to absolve Mary amidst any eye-brow since the prophecy is right there in their TORAH.
