If imported fuel was cheaper than Dangote Refinery fuel, the entire market would’ve been flooded with imported fuel. No matter how we dice and chop it, his fuel is cheaper than imported fuel (after landing cost has been factored in); if it weren’t the case, the other countries importing their fuel from his refinery would’ve looked elsewhere. As for fair pricing, how much would you expect Dangote to sell fuel per liter? ollypass: |
Lol. This serves the cartel of greedy & unpatriotic importers right! When they were choking us with substandard imported fuel & shoving it down our throats just because we didn’t have alternatives, they weren’t jittery ooo; now they’re purportedly jittery & it has only just begun. Being a shrewd businessman that takes no prisoners in any sector of the economy he has his fingers in, Dangote can deliberately take a few hits to his profit margins by slashing prices until the import-dependent marketers are forced to look inwards (read: patronize Dangote Refinery). He could just wait to get information that they’ve imported their usual substandard PMS into the country worth several billions of dollars & just as they’re offloading to their various tank farms from the vessels, they’ll just hear that Dangote has further reduced fuel price by as much as N100; those marketers will just collapse due to the huge losses such a move will impose on them. Anyways, I’m enjoying the price wars... May the greediest business owner lose! |
Is it really INEC/the system that’s the problem here or politicians and their supporters who have learnt to circumvent the electoral process over time? Case in point was the last presidential elections where INEC declared one candidate winner but two other candidates both claimed to have won the same elections & this is aside the declared winner; the question would be, who between the first runner-up & second runner-up actually “won” since both candidates purportedly had party agents across the Polling Units nationwide? Would either of them be sincere enough to even acknowledge that they lost the election because irrespective of who INEC declared as winner, we had an election where three contestants claimed they’ve empirical evidence that they won? In summary, even if the elections were to Ben uploaded real time on giant screens as large as stadium, as long as the political players don’t have any iota of truth in them, once a winner emerges, there will be claims by another contestant that they won, then they’ll allege the election transmission was “hacked” & then we’ll have election tribunals settling the matter and the cycle continues . If it’s not broken, don’t fix it! |
Good and honest people still exist inspite of the harsh economic realities in the land. The next thing should be an investigation into how her name made it to the list of vendors; won’t be surprising if politicians inserted the names of their cronies and allies to receive “free” money but this woman (who has the fear of God in her) chose to return what was sent to her because she didn’t work for nor deserved it. |
Lol. On today’s episode of “You Can’t Make This Up” comes another blockbuster “we received funds from public coffers for the running of our political party but I was sidelined in the choppings thereof”. This too shall pass; we can’t continue like this! |
Except the major actor in this legal drama - Dele Farotimi - comes out to condemn Peter Obi for his conciliatory moves, any other person may as well shove their unsolicited advice & condemnation up their sm€lly b@tth@le. |
Mr. Kenneth Ikonne (SAN) must have the gift of clairvoyance because exactly the solution he proposed is what is playing out at the moment (Peter Obi mediating on behalf of Dele Farotimi). Far back 2009-2011, the legal luminary chose to forego his fee of $1m allegedly “owed” him by a company he provided legal services to just because another lawyer, who is by far his junior in experience, age, practice & achievements in law, chose the less traveled route of “humility” to plead on behalf of that client. That amount forgiven at the time is probably worth 100x more today but he waived it! That’s the character of the man someone sat down to write defamatory things about in a book & has stuck to his guns about it. If PO can’t get DF to eat the humble pie on this matter, he should just let the matter play out in court and whoever emerges victorious at the end of the legal fireworks shall claim their victory. What if I’ve someone who wants to sell their own plot inside this Merit Park Estate, can you sell? |
So far, you appear to be the only person who understands the game that’s being played by the floating of this TNN & GEJ as the “poster boy” of the movement. dele1727: |
LMAO. If anyone doesn’t see PBAT’s hand behind this TNN movement then they’re very naive - politically! My strong belief is that the movement, just like the Obidient Movement prior to the last general elections, will gain traction & attract people of like minds; people who yearn for a return to the Jonathan era. Dr. GEJ will practically be dragged into the race with the backers mostly from the North & sensing what he believes to be a very ripe opportunity to stage a comeback (He’ll be even more motivated by Trump’s comeback for a second term as American President). Man will take the bait & here’s where it gets interesting & why I suspect PBAT’s “leprous” fingers all over this movement; a GEJ candidacy will do significant damage to whatever alliance is being cooked between Atiku & Obi. Just as one of the candidates was propped as a UI in the last presidential polls, another UI is being propped to play that role in the next general elections (it may be GEJ or not but if he takes the bait - which I believe he will - he would’ve served that purpose). |
NGF Chairman & Kwara Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq’s own business is just to be traveling upandan & engaging in photo ops; no meaningful foreign investment in his state inspite of its huge potentials and strategic location. Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State will just be doing gum-body on his own part with no ideas on how to build on the legacies he inherited from his immediate predecessor. Man was better off as a Senator & I often wonder what Malam saw in him that made him anoint & impose him on Kaduna people as his successor. As for Gov. Sanwo-Olu, man is on another level and keeps working like a Governor that’s still on his first term, not a final term governor. Kudos to him. |

Anyone can believe whatever they want but after reading this report which purportedly quoted top police officers of the FCID, one of his pastors was alleged to be involved in a fraudulent scheme & some of the funds were traced to the HICC & PBI’s personal accounts; my understanding is the pastor likely paid some proceeds of the purported crime as seed to his Senior Pastor & seed/offerings to the Church. This is the very reason why as Pastors, you must be circumspect in receiving from church members and just about anyone; some of the monies people bring to church are “hot money” and it takes a spirit of discernment & extra vigilance on the part of the Pastor to know which to receive and which one to turn down. However, in this circumstance, how do you even begin to suspect that one of your Pastors is a fraud? Again, discernment is very KEY. Meanwhile, this shouldn’t stop true believers who are into legitimate businesses and have verifiable source(s) of income from giving to their Spiritual leaders & vice versa; this is also not an opportunity for Church/Christian & Pastor bashers to gloat! |
What happens at the end of 6 months if Nigerians aren’t able to “independently analyze the proposed changes and form informed opinions, free from government propaganda”? Asking for a bill to be suspended for 6 months is a “lazy” approach to this Tax Bill controversy. Public hearings by the National Assembly have always provided opportunities for interested Nigerians, stakeholders and experts alike to contribute to contents of any bill before it’s passed in to law & this should be no exception. If those who kick against this bill don’t seize the opportunity of public hearings to make their reservations known & then propose solutions/alternatives/alterations to the bill, that’s their own headache; it’s now left for constituents to hold their own Senators & HoR members to account to ensure the peoples’ interests are protected in this bill. LOL when I read this part of the former President's statement: "We want a peaceful Rivers State. We want the governor of Rivers State to be allowed to remain calm and do his work".... Only Nigerians who were deaf, dumb & blind/uninterested in the politics of Rivers State between 2012-2015 or were still running around in diapers will not know/remember how the combination of President GEJ/Dame PEJ/Minister Nyesom Wike/CP Joseph Mbu turned then Gov. Rotimi Amaechi into a hostage in his own state. While it is true Gov. Sim Fubara needs a conducive political atmosphere to deliver the dividends of democracy to his people & in doing so carve out his own legacy, it's hypocrisy for a personality like ex-President Jonathan to speak on the lingering political drama in the state between Wike & Gov. Fubara; afterall, the empowerment of the immediate past Governor to become a political predator reached its peak under Jonathan's administration & with his active support. I just remember a particular incident where for political reasons the then Gov. Amaechi put the Liberty Stadium under lock and key in a bid to prevent the PDP from holding its campaign rally there (the state government at the time claimed the stadium had just undergone or was undergoing going renovation), Wike (then a Minister also) led his supporters to break open the stadium for their use & there was absolutely nothing the chief security officer of the state (Gov. Amaechi) could do. fergie001: |
Lol. It’s Nairaland I blame for giving charlatans a platform to amplify their nonsense. A supporter who most likely isn’t even reckoned with by the President/his allies and probably couldn’t even crack an egg if given a sledgehammer, makes an empty but loud threat on X but somehow, the tweets managed to make FP news on this platform? One thing I know for certain is the NTB will be passed into law albeit with some amendments to the contentious sections/or clauses; worse case scenario if it’s not passed by the NASS, the Supreme Court judgment on the VAT cases brought before it by Rivers Government (Lagos joined the suit too) against FG, will be activated & in this case, the states will get to keep everything as against the proposed 60%, 20%& 20% for derivation, equality & population respectively. |
Egbe kini yen wa! |
Lol. This Tinubunomics, e must touch everybody! Why I like this opposition from the North is simple: they either once & for all prove they “own” Tinubu & punish him with their votes come 2027 or forever be demystified because the way PBAT is moving, it doesn’t look like he sends anybody’s father, especially the North. |
The pediatricians are entitled to their opinion and beliefs just as those of us who have tried, tested and confirmed the effectiveness of placing strands of wool on the head of an infant should be allowed to be entitled to our own opinion. Two opinions can mutually coexist: one doesn’t have to be an outright lie for the other to be the wholesome truth. |
Lol. Is Adebutu money a joke to you? On a serious note, however, I hope his plea for reconciliation is borne of a genuine desire to make the union work and that his estranged wife too sees the need to write a new chapter in their marital journey. I wish the estranged couple all the best! |
On paper it sounds like a brilliant idea but irl, most airlines would not be able to survive such a policy if it were to be in place. Unlike Banks that receive & do business with depositors’ funds, airlines don’t have that luxury of funds: from buying/leasing aircraft, to maintenance, insurance, salaries, airport levies/fees & other operational expenses, airlines are already stretched. In all of these, there are no guarantees that they’ll even break even so where will the “capital base” come from? Again, it sounds like a very great idea but there’s a reason where this (idea) hasn’t been implemented anywhere in the world - at least, to the best of my knowledge. ayoolataiwo: |
Lol. Never seen an attention seeking octogenarian like Ebora Owu; In another life, Baba Obasanjo would be a very successful comedian just as he has been a successful politician, military general & C-in-C in his current life. Anyways, if not that he mentioned it, I don’t believe there was any rumours about his demise - at least, I didn’t come across any. Unlike his former peers like Gowon & IBB, Baba has been fortunate not to have been rumored dead on social media. |
This is what you get when you do things in secrecy; if NNPC had just disclosed this info from the beginning, they would’ve forestalled a situation where they’re on the defensive now. |
Now, this is a commendable move by Gov. Ododo. |
I thought some people claimed UGM was a creation of the “Fulani Government” of fPMB to destabilize the Southeast? However, here’s IPOB spokesman (he should know better and indeed, has more reliable information at his disposal than most) confirming that Simon Ekpa has since 2021, being the mastermind of the killings, wanton destruction of livelihoods and violence in the Southeast. Anyways, irrespective of Mr. Powerful’s assertions, whoever and whatever is behind the current wave of bloodletting in the Southeast will not know peace: you don’t kill human beings as if they’re chickens and expect to have rest! |
That’s interesting. Looks like this set of governors in the Southeast mean business. I wish them all the very best. Objectivist04: |
aariwa:At bold comment, there’s nothing such as “Obama MDG Award”. Give Mr Peter Obi his due accolades but stop attaching or dropping names in a bid to give him praise for his performance in office as governor. Nonetheless, it’s on record that in 2014 he won the award for mainstreaming the MDGs into Anambra State Development Agenda 2006-2014. Meanwhile, Gov. Charles Soludo appears to be performing very well and this is worthy of commendation when one considers he is yet to access any loan facility since assuming office as Governor. |
Saved your digit. You’ll hear from me. Favourdays1: |
Are reforms a necessary evil? Absolutely! Is the PBAT admin carrying out its reforms in a well structured manner that ensures the people don’t buckle under the weight of these reforms? The answer is a resounding NO! Are there proper safety nets in place to protect the citizens from the harsh fallouts of the current reforms? Another NO! Has the PBAT admin ensured a judicious and equitable use of the lean resources at its disposal? Your guess is as good as mine. So, what any sensible government ought to do in this case is to follow the recommendations of this IMF report detailing how governments can gain the trust of their citizens and get them to buy in to the reforms. |
The South African goal keeper is winning this; man is also a finalist for the African POTY which is by no means a small feat. |
We’ve a Machiavellian politician as President and he’s ably supported by another equally Machiavellian appointee who’s a strong and financially capable member of the PDP. If there’s anything that’s playing out now that I suspect to be true of the situation in PDP, the governors (either first term or second term governors) understand that their own political survival is at stake and they’d soon rather let PDP “die” than be the sacrificial lamb of the power-thirsty demagogue that seats in Aso Rock. It’ll be very easy for the President aided by Wike to finance (no governor individually or collectively can match the warchest at their disposal) opposition in any recalcitrant PDP governor’s state; those who want to instal their successors will face a Herculean task doing so either at primaries level or at the governorship elections proper just as we witnessed in Edo. For those seeking re-election, it’ll be easier for them to just rollover and play ball instead of fighting an all out battle that’ll only distract & take their eyes of the goal (kudos to then President Obasanjo for showing how this is possible with what he did to the then Southwest AD governors. Interestingly, the only governor who survived this onslaught then is the President today). In summary, when faced with the choice of choosing between their political survival and survival of PDP, the governors know the easiest choice to make and they’re already making it. |
