Something interesting happened to me recently. I have this girl I once considered good for me marriage wise and should take my time to get to know her well before considering relationships as I know she is also single.

We usually see almost every Sunday after church and then.
till the next week Sunday again.

The first time we met after church, I took her out to a restaurant hoping it will be an avenue to discuss more better and get to know each other.

Along the road, we got to a place where they sell glasses, she approached the guy and was checking it out. I saw a glasses I liked and I took it immediately, she took one for herself and I paid for both.

She didn't express any gratitude for me paying and I didn't see it as anything too. She dropped her bag there and went to meet her friend in a place not too far. I waited for her to return.

After about 40 minutes, she came back and I thought we were headed to her house as it was her birthday and I have never been to her place. She has visited me in my own house once.

I was surprised when I saw her moving towards the opposite road from where we came back from and heading towards the restaurant road. She then said she needed us to chill first before she goes home.

And then she asked me where we should go " Chicken Republic " or the other one in the area. I told her to decide as she came up with the idea of chilling first.

We got into the eatery and she expected me to order food. I told her blankly that I won't be eating as I have food at home. I told her to go and buy her own food then.

She thought for some minutes and said she won't be eating too as it won't be good for only her to eat. Not long after I told her I need to go prepare for a site visit I have later in the day just as an excuse to leave.

She was disappointed and she did enter cab and left.

I kept wondering why are this ladies like this. This is the type of girl that looks homely and you will think will make a perfect wife but all she care about is how you will keep spending on her thinking one is a fool.

Fast forward to today, I was not in church as I joined online. Tell me why I didn't see this girl 's call or text. Inwhich before she would have called or text to know my whereabout around the church so we can meetup and go chill

So what actually is it and what is it used for?

Industrial/Chemical Applications: Used to manufacture high-refractive index optical glass, low-melting glasses, and in the production of photoelectric cells. It also acts as an oxidizing agent in organic synthesis and a precursor to other thallium compounds.
Historical Pesticide: Previously widely used as a rodenticide and ant killer, though this use was banned in the U.S. in 1972 and in many other countries due to high toxicity and environmental concerns.

Does it have use cases for terrorism?

Thallium sulfate has a dark history of use in state-sponsored terrorism, political assassinations, and more recently, by extremist groups due to its nature as a colorless, odorless, and tasteless toxin.

Terrorist and State-Sponsored Use
ISIS / ISIL Chemical Testing: Documents recovered during the liberation of Mosul revealed that ISIS experimented with thallium sulfate on prisoners. They described it as an "ideal lethal poison" because of its delayed symptoms and high solubility, which they believed could be used to target food and water supplies. In 2018, intelligence alerts also warned that ISIS might attempt to procure the chemical from international firms.

Saddam Hussein’s Regime: Thallium sulfate was the "poison of choice" for the Iraqi Mukhabarat (secret police) to eliminate political dissidents. This method was particularly favoured because the delayed onset of symptoms allowed victims to emigrate or reach "safety" before the poison took effect. In 2008, two families in Baghdad were fatally poisoned by cakes laced with thallium, believed to be leftover from Saddam's old stockpiles.

Rhodesian Bush War: Between 1976 and 1979, thallium was reportedly used as a chemical warfare agent by specialized units of the British South Africa Police (BSAP) attached to the Selous Scouts.
Intelligence Agencies: Historical reports and allegations link thallium to various Cold War-era assassinations by the KGB, CIA, and the French SDECE. For example, Cameroonian leader Félix-Roland Moumié was assassinated with thallium in 1960 by a French agent.


Notable Criminal and Individual Poisonings
Because it is difficult to detect without specific testing, thallium sulfate is frequently used in high-profile homicides and mass poisonings:
Graham Young: Known as the "Teacup Poisoner," he used thallium to poison approximately 70 people in an English village in 1971.
The Carr Family Case (Florida): In 1988, George Trepal was convicted of murdering his neighbor, Peggy Carr, and poisoning her family by spiking Coca-Cola bottles with thallium.

Tamara Ivanyutina: In the late 1980s in Kyiv, she was found guilty of 40 poisonings (13 lethal) using a thallium-based solution to eliminate neighbors and colleagues.
Zhu Ling (Tsinghua University): A famous unsolved case in China from 1994 where a talented student was left severely disabled after being poisoned with thallium, likely by a classmate with access to the lab.
