RomanceRe: My Boyfriend Relies On Me For His Financial Needs by Aziza(f): 2:45pm On Sep 25, 2008
Girlfriend, please discuss these issues with your mother, your pastor, your elder sister, a mentor, someone you look up to.

I can only tell you what I would tell my sister who came to me with this story. Cut your losses and fire his ass.

Good in bed is relative. At 24, you have not yet fully come into your own sexually. I know you may argue, but that's the truth. You may consider him good in bed, reality is that he may not be all that.

You have better days - including sex - ahead of you. I just pray that you meet a true soul mate soon and settle down.

God bless.

@Lawyerchap: Yeah ,  wink grin, I got it right. Funny, it's actually my fifth Idols victory, I was on Taylor Hicks, Karen of SA Idols, and David Cook. cheesy wink
If you've been reading through the lines, the supposed Sony BMG people are simply full of shit. They wanted him to be in the finals, remember that Lebo once announced that they may have "a surprise" guest artiste in the finals. They even got him a visa. His lawyers and managers eventually weighed the situation and asked him to stay away from anything that has to do with that gang of "Sony BMG". That's when they came up with the cheesy, "Eric should be on the show with Omawumi", That was weird. I think Omawumi would have done spectcularly alone on BOTH songs. That one trick pony Eric only served as a distraction to Omawumi, I did not like that. I also noticed that our people have to polish their skills when it comes to doing duets. Remember the awful rendition by Jodie and Uche of You are Everythingshocked. Then Eric and Nicholette did the most unsynchronised duet I have seen in a long time. When they do duets, they don't flow naturally.

I liked Omawumi's performance of In the Music. I like the song too. I think she is taking her music seriously and the sky is her limit. It's funny how I once told her I was her fan and that I like what she is doing with her career. She told me and I quote, "me and you know that you were never my fan." I was like, "take it easy babe." Being Timi's fan doesn't mean that I have exhausted my fan-ability on him. It's like love - you love your mother doesn't mean that you don't have any love left for other people in the world. I'm a fan of Lionel Richie, Seal, and Lemar - I buy all their records and attend their concerts. You get the drift?

didii:
The apprentice were in a hotel for 2months before the show, this is just 3weeks and you're making arguable condemnations.
@Didii: Just a correction. The contestants of The Apprentice Africa were flown in to Lagos in January and lodged at Eko Hotel. Production of the show, orientation, montage started immediately. The contestants had access to all the 5-star services in Eko Hotel during their stay. They were moved to the Apprentice Mansion early January. The show started airing on February 24, 2008. The Apprentice Africa was a big budget, international production. No such thing as""sponsors are yet to bring money". The production was professionally done with an international cast. While, I applaud the minds behind The Intern, I think comparing the two shows is like comparing watermelons to native garden egg. With The Apprentice Africa being the former.

A pity.
TV/MoviesRe: Idols Is Back! (East Africa) by Aziza(f): 2:02pm On Jul 11, 2008
@Lawyerchap: No vex o as I have to "quote" you. I know it's not your opinion but I just need to highlight somethings.

lawyerchap:
Early this year, news broke about the uncertainty that beclouded his contract when he cried out that he was dropping the microphone to go back to the ivory towers where he was studying….as SONY BMG Africa and Pan African Entertainment were not living up to the promises of the contract. Pan African  Entertainment came out to announce that Timi would start recording, four months to the expiration of the contract, leaving many people wondering what time would be used in the production, promotion and marketing of the album.
This whole situation is rather unfortunate. It is also very disgraceful. I think our government should step in and do something about this fraud. People shouldn't be able to go on TV and make claims false claims and get away with it. Part of the motivation of the fans of the show was to see their contestant win the international record deal. If we knew there was no recording contract, we would have kept our voting money in our pockets and who knows, maybe Temitayo or Jerrilyn would have won. It is pretty scandalous that Pan African Entertainment can claim that Timi would start recording when they knew that no such plan was in place. Blatant lies!

lawyerchap:
He, along with Omawunmi, who took the second position and Uche were signed on to SONY BMG Africa, on a one year deal. Apart from Timi, whose contract was automatic, the other two were selected based on their outstanding performances.
I am please to hear that Miss Jodie saw reason to showed the contract to her family, who showed a lawyer and she wisely walked. Thank goodness.

lawyerchap:
Trends gathered the reason for the unexpected eventuality witnessed so far was as a result of
communication breakdown between the record label, SONY BMG through their representatives, Pan African Entertainment and Twice As Nice Ltd. managers of the artistes which has Elvina Ibru as its CEO.
Industry watchers are of the opinion that what the artistes needed was a voracious, aggressive and result oriented management for the artistes as the Elvina Ibru, who was part of the production of the show, lacked the zeal needed to achieve such feat bearing putting into considerations her comfortable family background.
Sony BMG, the international corporation was NEVER, EVER in the picture in the first place. There has never been a communication breakdown between Pan African Entertainment and Twice as Nice Limited as both of them are owned and run by a brother and his sisters. They wine and dine together everyday. I do agree that you need someone with zeal and fire in their belle to get things done, but I wish to disagree that comfortable family background accounts for laziness or "lack of zeal". There is very little a manager of an artiste can do if the record label is not in a position to fulfill the terms of the contract.

In the case of West African Idols, the "contract" was no contract at all. It was more of a plan to enslave people's children as they say in Nigeria.

lawyerchap:
But as it is now, many are asking if the Nigeria factor is part of what has kept the 10 encouraging and promising stars still missing in the Nigerian African and world entertainment scene after being exposed in such a platform like Idols.
There we go again with the Naija bashing. Some irresponsible persons show up on the scene, make claims that they can't back up and it is ascribed to Nigeria. Pan African Entertainment originated from South Africa. It has nothing to do with Nigeria or the state of affairs in Nigeria. It has all to do with the insincerity of the promoters of the Idols WA show.

lawyerchap:
Already, Timi has recorded a single entitled I LOVE YOU, which is yet to be released officially.
Timi did not start his musical career with Idols. As a matter of fact, Idols WA is the second talent competition he has won. He was the winner of the maiden issue of GE Factor a televised  regional (South-South) talent hunt in 2006. He has a number of songs he has put together. However, the songs are at demo quality in terms of production. His most popular single is titled I Love to Love You and it was played heavily on the airwaves in Port Harcourt/Bayelsa during the Idols competition.

lawyerchap:
Dede has since relocated to Ghana from where he now operates while Nana is still doing very well on her music production outfit in Ghana. Dan Foster still mesmerises Lagosians with his American-accented voice from the studio of Cool FM where he is a presenter.
I didn't know Dede, Nana, and Dan Foster were contestants on Idols WA. So, what did they sing while on the show? I totally missed that part. grin grin

EducationRe: Expulsion Scandal Rocks Covenant University: 120 Students Expelled by Aziza(f): 10:16am On Jul 11, 2008
Come to think of it, what is a "morning assemby" doing in an institute of higher learning. Whether it's Covenant, Igbinedion, Madonna, or UNILAG. This is ridiculous. So, a non-Christian cannot attend the school? This sounds weird. Are we sure it is true?

The school of thought that says that "is it by force to attend Covenant?" Should step back, get out the situation and look at it from the outside. How big an infraction is not taking your bible to the morning assembly? Who does it hurt anyone? Who does it harm the institution? How does it deter the institution from it's values?

This notion that disagreeing with someone makes you an enemy is very childish. Mature people know that you disagree all the time with your beloved family and friends. It means you take a position on an issue that differs from them. Accepting differing opinions and seperating the issue from the person is the hallmark of a civilised culture. An attack on a policy of Covenant University should not interpreted as an attack on Winner's Chapel or Bishop Oyedepo.

I really hope this did not happen as reported. If the report is true, the decision of the school is highly actionable and if the parents decide to seek redress it is just fine. There are many schools to go to. It's not the end of the world. No institution can institute rules that override the constitution of the nation. Does this rule abide by the constitution of Nigeria? Or the Human Rights Charter of which Nigeria is a signatory? FREEDOM OF BELIEF AND RELIGION, stupid! Is this not the same school that demanded HIV tests and pregnancy tests from their students before graduation? What happened to that issue? I recall NUC stepping in and the school backpeddaled. No institution is above the law of the land.
TV/MoviesRe: Pirated Movie At Silverbird Cinemas? (Actually, No) by Aziza(f): 9:18am On Jul 11, 2008
Seun,
I think you should take down this thread and threads like this that are meant to tarnish the image of reputable businesses in Nigeria. Silverbird would never ever ever show a pirated copy of the film. As a matter of fact, they cannot show a pirated copy because they don't play a CD or DVD. The person who started this must be reckless and obviously has an ulterior motive. I saw one the other day on "Your BankPHB Experience", all kinds of claims were made. It would be better such a thread said something like " Your Experience with Banks" that way, no organisation feels like they are being slandered.
TV/MoviesRe: Idols Is Back! (East Africa) by Aziza(f): 8:18am On Jul 11, 2008
@Salsera: I am just going to shoot straight on that: "Sony BMG" as advertised on the programme was not the real Sony BMG. The people posing as Sony BMG could not follow through on their commitments to the Timi and others whom they later said they want to produce, namely Jodie, Uche, and Omawumi. At the end of the day, all Timi and the others were given was a piece of paper which had no value. What does that make the contract? A fraud? It just wasn't real.

@Beamer: Thanks for your review. Please don't stop.

Beamer:
There are serious sound issues on TV and that manifested itself particularly at the Top Six. When you get to watch on the idiot box, it almost sounds different. My favourite Trinah (and Salsera forgive me for my take on her first wardrobe choice) was low when she started out at the Bomas. But when I checked it out on TV, her start was flawless which is why my unedited review seems wrong.
I still think - after watching it over and over again - that Trinah started her second song too low and in an uninspired fashion.

TV/MoviesRe: Idols Is Back! (East Africa) by Aziza(f): 2:31pm On Jul 09, 2008
@Lawyerchap: I know where you are coming from. Till Idols came to Nigeria and I saw the thing korokoro that nobody can influence the result, I used to be sceptical. As a matter of fact, I used to believe the conspiracy theory that the producers of the show decide who they want to produce and manipulate things for their choice to win.

Adiona is one babe to watch o! She may just take out Trinah at top 3. We should not write Nichollette off. If they come up with the producer's choice this week like they did in Idols WA, we may just have Nichollette make an impressive showing this week as song choice is one of her problems. Let's see. My money is still on Eric.

lawyerchap:
@aziza
By the way, Vote For The Worst never supported Jordin Sparks. Had to point that out. Wish i had more time to research your 'facts.'
My bad, VFTW actually supported Sanjaya until he left, then they supported Lakisha Jones (briefly though), then they switched to Blake Edwards who finished second. The apple didn't fall too far from the tree in any case, as the VFTW movement helped eased out Melinda Doolitte at top 3 all the same. Please feel free to check out my "facts", I am open to correction. I write about Idols as I see it, through my eyes.
TV/MoviesRe: Idols Is Back! (East Africa) by Aziza(f): 11:18am On Jul 09, 2008
@Lawyerchap: These surprise exits don't necessarily mean they are the "best" singer or "best" performer or "best" person to be an Idol. It means that these people do very well, come on strong from the beginning, and get lots of attention. It just means that being the Idol takes more than just ability to sing well, afterall it is a singer competition for singers. There has to be that special quality in a contestants that moves people to action, in this case it is to vote for you.

Jennifer Hudson: Her hometown of Chicago has a blackout the night of her performance. The whole place was in disarray. People forgot that their home girl was on American Idols and she left. Anwar Robinson: Two weeks before his exit, nasty rumours started circulating about his sexuality. Homophobia kicked in and he left the competition. Chris Daughtry: Who knows, I wasn't really following the media buzz that year. But I know that VFTW that year fingered Mr. Taylor Hicks. Melinda Dolittle: The judges all but declared her the winner at top 3. It was time to spite Simon Cowell, I guess. The youth vote kicked in and pushed Jordin Sparks to victory. VFTW also had Jordin down for that year. Michael John: Many issues. He left too early for me to really articulate the major reason. But it was a real surprise because pundicts had him down for top 3. Jodie: Awful West African Music themed week. Her fans thought she was safe. A good number switched to Timi that week.

Now, I don't know whether it is the god of Idols that orchestrates these exits to fulfill the covenant of Idols. But I do that that  series of unfortunate events come togther to make these surprise exits possible.

Ammaraa was a very good singer who had a wooden persona. I don't mean any disrespect, but a lot of people could not connect with her the way they connect with Eric and Trinah for instance.

Did I answer your question?
TV/MoviesRe: Idols Is Back! (East Africa) by Aziza(f): 9:46am On Jul 09, 2008
@Lawyerchap: This is the reason why people should not rely on "public opinion" so much. You can't tell what is going through people's minds and you can't trust the majority of the people to act rationally. We all saw Mr. George W. Bush win a second term in the US. You figure that out.

The concept of keeping a less than average singer on the show while better talents leave is what I have coined the Sanjaya Effect. The Sanjaya Effect is driven by the concept of symphathy for the underdog and identifying with the average Joe because afterall, most people are the average Joe. Season 7 of American Idol saw a "narrow escape" contestant, Sayesha make it to top 3. Week after week, she hung on while the better talents left the show. What will you say about that? Also there are movements like Vote for the Worst (VFTW) which aims to keep the worst singer on as long as possible.

I recall during Idols WA at the top 3 spectacular show. It was reported that after Omawumi's second performance in the midst of the crowd reaction, Temitayo's mum sighed and said, it is not about how they cheer for you, it's about winning the votes. The woman was dead right. By her comments, she unwisely ignited the fire in Omawumi's fans who did what was necessary to move Omawumi to the finals. It is about the votes. "It's about the votes, Stupid!" In any election, it's about getting people to vote for you. How it happens doesn't count. It's the votes that do. Last minute surge in symphathy votes do happen all the time. Also, it's very easy for fans of a stellar performer like Ammaraa to take things for granted and assume that she is safe because she is so good. Meanwhile the fans of a Nichollette for instance, will leave no vote uncast that week and they just bump out a good singer.

At the top 6 of Idols WA, fans of Jodie thought she was very "safe" while some of her fans threw in their votes for Timi whom they feared did not do very well that week. How do you explain Timi having the highest number of votes at the top 4, the week he had his worst performance ever? It's about the vote. The votes! The votes!! The votes!!!
TV/MoviesRe: Idols Is Back! (East Africa) by Aziza(f): 6:26pm On Jul 08, 2008
@Lawyerchap. My mail does not suggest that viewers somehow get together and agree to allow a very talented singer leave the competition while a less talented one stays. The very nature of the show doesn't allow for viewers to get to together and exit a contestant.

The basic format of Idols allows for voting to override talent at times. Winners of Idols and people who go far in the competition are people who can express themselves on stage through song, connect with viewers, and move them to action - vote. Contestants just have to get people to vote for them. Grewing a voting fan base is key to victory on Idols. This is one reason why a lively personality (charisma) is important in the competition. Adding bits and pieces of your life story (orphaned, brought up by a single mom, from less priviledged background, left school because of school fees, had a baby at 16, struggling with my weight, brother is living with cancer, grew up in rural America) help with connecting with viewers. At times, it's not just about the talent it's the "total package" as they say.

I don't think the show is scripted in the sense that the producers decide who goes and who stays. The votes are reviewed and certified by reputable firms. For Africa, it's Alexander Forbes. Contestants are exited based on votes and nothing else.
TV/MoviesRe: Idols Is Back! (East Africa) by Aziza(f): 3:05pm On Jul 08, 2008
This is the eight season of Idols (American Idol, WA, SA, East). Every Idols season I have watched (except) SA Idols has that "surprise" exit of a star singer, someone who came on very strong at the beginning and everyone fingers him or her as a the winner. That someone often has more talent that the other 9 top 10 contestants combined or has a unique star quality.

In American Idol season 3, it was Jennifer Hudson; season 4 was Anwar Robinson; season 5 was Chris Daughtry; season 6 was Melinda Doolittle; season 7 was Michael John. In Idols WA it was Jodie. Which brings us to what Idols is - a voting competition.
TV/MoviesRe: Idols Is Back! (East Africa) by Aziza(f): 8:19am On Jul 08, 2008
Poor Ammaraa. I knew this would happen.
wooden song choices + Wooden dance moves + wooden singing style + wooden interpretation of songs + wooden stage presence +  wooden gaze into the camera = not getting enough votes to move forward in the competition.

Ammaraa would be any good producers delight. Knowing the African Idols landscape, we may not hear from her for at least 4 years - after she has been able to disentangle herself from those crazy contracts they force them to sign. I wish her well. I urge her fans to reach out to her and tell her to shine her eye well well!
PoliticsRe: Lagos Permits Citizen Arrest And Bans Arrest Of Innocent Relatives by Aziza(f): 9:39pm On Jul 06, 2008
It is shameful that a law that has been in existence since the creation of the first criminal code for the country can now be rephrased and touted as a "new" Lagos state law. Citizen's arrest is not a new thing, it has been in the Nigerian law since God knows when. Proxy arrest has never been authorized in our criminal code. Never. It used to happen under an illegitimate government, military regime. It never was Nigerian law to arrest one person for another person's crime. Lawyers in the house should step up to the plate and educate us.
CareerRe: Highest Paying Banks In Nigeria? by Aziza(f): 9:20pm On Jul 06, 2008
Bank PHB pays entry level N3.4 million per annum. 25% is performance tied pay of which 50% is tied to individual performance and 50% is tied to team performance. You also have health insurance coverage of N600,000 per annum. Nothing wrong in expecting performance from your staff. All serious companies do.
TV/MoviesRe: Idols Is Back! (East Africa) by Aziza(f): 7:08pm On Jul 06, 2008
Okay, Top 5 is over. Once again, Nicolelette has let me down. Trinnah is coming back into her own but that Whitney Houston number was a bit too low for me. Ammarrah remains a wooden, one trick pony. Adiona is still struggling with the mic, the stage, and the audience. Eric is the bomb!
TV/MoviesRe: Idols Is Back! (East Africa) by Aziza(f): 2:29pm On Jul 01, 2008
@Lawyerchap: I get you. At this stage in the competition, I think it is safe to say that Eric will be in the finals. Judging from the other four player:
Adiona: Struggling singer. When she does well, the wow factor is hardly there. Didn't have the initial base fans to push her through to top 10. Is not growing her fan base as her performances leave you uninspired.
Ammarra: Great singer but settling for good. Wooden song choices. Looks like a one trick pony. I think she is wasting a great opportunity by not bringing her best game to the table.
Trinah: Great singer but not improving on her game. Sings in a churchy manner. Singing churchy is not a bad thing, but that system just doesn't work on Idols. Fan base is not growing.
Nicollete: Amazing voice. Amazing technique. Awful song choices. Should have stayed where she was strong - jazzy, folksy singing style. Unfortunately, she listened to the judges (who in my opinion know nothing about music and how to win a competition) and started moving away from her style to show VERSATILITY. Versatility happens to be the last thing a singing competition wants - versatility as defined in Idols WA means you are all over the place doing every kind of song in every genre. What that does to you is that you turn off your initial fan base and confuse possible fans. She may just get to the finals if she comes up strong at top 5 or top 4. But she cannot win - when the chips are down, as we have seen before: The guy who comes on strong at Top 24 and Top 10 and keeps improving is the person who wins. My money is still on Eric.
TV/MoviesRe: Idols Is Back! (East Africa) by Aziza(f): 11:02pm On Jun 30, 2008
So, Mkhululi left tonight. Poor chap. I did not think he was pulling enough weight on the show.

Ammara and Trinah have got to watch it. Idols can be unforgiving to great singers who settle for good.

Nicolette may just come from behind and end up a top 2 player.

Eric looks very much like an Idol. Good looks, popularity, passion, talent, great song choices, connecting with viewers, and CONSTANT IMPROVEMENT. At this point, I'll put my money on Eric.

I can't believe this. This is irresponsible!
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa 2 (II)! by Aziza(f): 6:46pm On Nov 08, 2007
I wanted to run away again when I noticed that some people are misunderstanding me.

I mentioned that if you get the core and active fans together, we can agree on the format for the party. I did not suggest any format - simple or elaborate. A collective decision will be made on that and all interests and sentiments will be heard. Tampico has "suggested" Jade. Some are suggesting Sweet Sensation. And from experience, an agreement will not be reached easily especially on the pages of this forum. (I don't mean to be a wet blanket here, just being realistic.) People who don't want Jade simply tune off and when that happens you won't know, cause of the sycophantic nature of our society. Agreements are hardly reached by "strangers" on an anonymous internet forum.

I was using example of Timi's party to show you want can happen when you filter through forums and hold on to the core people (fans, supporters, forum commentors, etc.) The format of Timi's party was decided by the fans themselves, it was not imposed on them by a few or by one person.

From experience, I know that fans or supporters are the most fickle people on earth. Once she wins on Sunday, many people will abandon the forum and with that, anything Ofunneka. A simple get together or an elaborate party, what matters to me is that people show up and we have fun. You can hardly get that without integrated decision making. Lawyerchap can share his experience organising a reunion of the Idols WA thread.

Tampico (nor any of us) sure doesn't want to show up at Jade and find out that despite enthusiasm displayed on the forum, no one else showed up. That would be sad, God forbid. But it can happen. It has happened to a friend of mine. I swear, it was not funny at all.
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa 2 (II)! by Aziza(f): 2:27pm On Nov 08, 2007
@Lawyerchap: I am a slient reader. I am seeing everything.

About the Reunion:
Tampico, you are doing well. Just don't lose your cool. Let me offer some advice based on my experience or should I say expertise in matters such as these. You don't have to do what I suggest, but it will be worthwhile to consider them.
1. Ask for the real dedicated and committed Ofunneka fans to join you at a site, group, etc dedicated to Ofunneka fans. Yahoo, facebook, etc will do. That way, you are sure that all who join are real fans and not internet forum freaks.
2. When you have such a group, the leaders should identify themselves - real name, where you work and live, what you do for a living, contact info, etc. This will boost confidence and people will know that they are dealing with real people, professionals whose integrity have haven tested over time, and they have a reputation to protect. Nairaland.com is an anonymous forum. It's hard to talk about money with people who do not know you. Do not be decived by the chatter on the forum. When it comes to money, people get serious and become suspicious.
3. When an isolated group of Ofunneka fans comes together. A leadership should be formed and a planning committee put together. The committee would decide on how to go about the get-together, reunion, or hosting of our dear Ofunneka. You'll have people in-charge of creating publicity, venue, food, decoration, music, etc. That way, all interests will be protected, different viewpoints tabled, and an inclusive event will be organised.

You'll be amazed how resources can be pulled together and a great party can be held at an amazingly small cost. When we hosted my Idol Timi, we had people send money from foreign countries to us, someone provided a professional comedian, we had a professional DJ (moi  wink)play for us, people living in PH donated as much as N20,000 - N40,000 to a party they were not coming for, someone provided transportation, someone provided MOPOL security, someone invited two TV press crews, someone paid for the video coverage, a graphic artiste in the family did the design work, etc. At the end of the day, we had a wonderful family get-together, all of us could come to the party where you could afford to pay or not and everyone was happy. The most amazing part was that 95% of us met ourselves on the MNET forum and Nairaland.com.

I'll leave you with this. I look forward to an invitation to an Ofunneka fan only forum. We can set the ball rolling from there.

I look forward to finally meeting you in person as well as the other beautiful, dedicated, and passionate Ofunneka fans on the forum.

Ofunneka is bringing home the money, there is no other way the game can go.
