HND can only fetch you 10 points. MSCE certificate is also 10 points. its either u claim the point for the HND or the MCSE you can not claim both. ACS will always deduct your experience accordign to their "summary of criteria". In your case 5 or 6 years would be deducted depending on the occupation you want to nominate.

You might stand a better chance assessing with other assesing body if you can not get up to 75 points as almost all ACS occupations are competitive and on prorata.

paulooma:
Dear Senior,

I intend to do my assessment through ACS, I have HND in Electrical/ Electronics Engineering and I wish to combine it with my MCSE Certificate, Will it gained me 15 point on Education and also reduced the number of years to be deducted from work experience.

Need your advise Senior.

Alphadoor already answered your question.

A review would be in your favor.

Add the pre-qualification experience but make sure you state the number of hours which must be greater than 20 hours per week. and the post qualification exp you left out can be added as well.

Your Bsc. should be included since it is earlier than the Microsoft certification.

So...

Bsc Assessed as Associate degree with major in computing, lets assume its NOT closely related to nominated occupation - 6 years would be deducted.

14 - 6 = 8 years

You will be able to claim 8 years of experience when they deduct 6 years and that's 15 points.

cheers.

ScalarD:
Hello House,

I have been following this thread for about 3 months now, and I would like to appreciate everyone here, it has been so informative and helpful.

To Bellong, azy123, misoke and acs gurus in the house, my case is as stated below and I would appreciate your candid advice.

Qualification: B Sc Mathematical Sciences (Computer Science Option) From University of Agriculture - 2005
Occupation: Analyst Programmer (261311)
Post NYSC Experience:
1. April 2007 - June 2008 ( 1 Yr 2 Months)
2. July 2008 - April 2012 ( 3 Yrs 10 Months)
3. May 2012 - Date (5 Yrs 5 Months)
Total: 10 Yrs 5 Months

Certifications:
1. Microsoft Certified IT Professional (August 2010)
2. Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (August 2010)

ACS Assessment - 23rd October 2017 and got the result as stated below;

Your skills have been assessed to be suitable for migration under 261311 (Analyst Programmer) of the ANZSCO Code.

Your qualifications have been assessed as follows:
Your Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences (Computer Science Option) from University of Agriculture completed September 2005 has been assessed as comparable to an AQF Associate Degree with a Major in computing.
Your Microsoft Certified IT Professional from Microsoft completed August 2010 has been assessed as comparable to an AQF Diploma with a Major in computing.
Your Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist from Microsoft completed August 2010 has been assessed as comparable to an AQF Diploma with a Major in computing.

The following employment after November 2012 is considered to equate to work at an appropriately skilled level and relevant to 261311 (Analyst Programmer) of the ANZSCO Code.

NOTE:
1. I have some professional experience during school as I was working on part-time and full time on holidays (as a freelance Programmer) from February 2002 - December 2004 (2 Yr 11 Months)
2. I have post qualification experience from May 2005 - March 2006 right from when I finished from school while waiting for service and during service that I did not submit for the assessment (10 Months)
Both Experiences stated above is from the same company and I can get reference letter.

Since I can't get 15 points for Degree, is there a way I can get 15 points for experience. I was just thinking of review and adding the experience that I left out and probably remove the B Sc and use Microsoft certification as the qualification which would equally give 10 Points

Total Experience would be: 2 Yr 11 Months + 10 Months + 1 Yr 2 Months + 3 Yrs 10 Months + 5 Yrs 7 Months = 14 Yrs 4 Months

Congratulations!!!

PTE has freed me at last at the third attempt.

S=90 L= 90 W = 90 R= 90.

For speaking please practice tongue twisters it will improve your fluency. My fluency jumped from 71 in the second attempt to 90 this time. Also spend time communicating in english, it will improve your fluency and pro reading, study collocations and re-order paragraph a lot and for the multiple answer section, if you are not sure of the answer please don't choose it because it attracts negative marking.
For writing, in the summary section, don't write too much because it will complicate the sentences. For listening, listen very well and try to pick 3 to 5 key phrases especially in the summarize spoken test.

I found that PTE requires thorough practice. Practice everyday and pray for grace.

Yes you can. But its rather expensive. There are also some practical aspects of the course that you would need to be physically present to be taught. You would also need to undergo 120 hours of work placement (or internship) before you can graduate. This internship must be with a disability service provider in Australia. Check out the website I gave above for more info

Making a total of 6 english test attempt.

It seems 6 is the magic number. That speaking can give headache een. May be I should hurry up and try it again.

I have sent you a PM.

Anatano:
Hi All,
I started my journey early this year, and have written 3 IELTS exams. I was able to achieve at least 7 across all bands on the second attempt after which i evaluated my credentials with CPAA. But then I needed more points to stand a chance for ITA under ANZCO 221111, so I did the third IELTS on 9Sep17, but it didn't turn out as expected. I had L=8, R=7.5, W=7, S=7.5 so 20points seemed elusive.

So, I put in for another one on 03Oct17 and result was L=90, R=89, S=90, W=90. Now I will tell you what I discovered in the speaking.

What you said about a typical Nigerian is true. Especially for those sounds that do not exist in our mother tongues.

For PTE pronounciation. I have seen someone who scored 58 in Pronunciation, OF - 86 and had 80 in Speaking.

Another 59 in Pronunciation, OF - 79 with 79 in speaking.

Also I had 50 in pronunciation, OF - 80 in one of the mock test and 80 in Speaking.

And someone who scored - 60 in Pronunciation, OF - 89 and 90 in speaking.

What i think makes the difference is the Content.

So, now my aim is to increase fluency without affecting pronunciation (if I can get 55 - 60 in pronunciation, I will be very happy:-)

Plus Good content.

Pronunciation is more than producing the sound and speech to text recognizing your words. Stress is very important. It determines if we get a score of 3 or 4 in pronunciation. And to score 60 or above out of 90 in pronunciation. We need to score almost equal numbers of 4 and some 3 out of 5 in each question where pronunciation is scored. thats like 3.5 out of 5 = 63 out of 90

Bamz:

The practice questions in the CD-ROM of the PTE Guide is about the most useful part of it. The theory part just explains the test format, what is tested in each section. You can easily understand that through different Youtube channels.

How's your preparation coming by?

I tend think from bottom up some times. You know, that Jody Gilbert video gave me so much insight. As far as pronunciation is concerned, some of us get the basics wrong. Can a typical Nigerian differenciate between sounds of hut/hot, thread/tread, pitch/peach etc.?

Instead of seeing this test as an obstacle, it's also right to have the proper mindset. Desperation takes the fun out of it. It should be viewed as a way to improve our all-round English skills.

1) has the 60-points yardstick been increased to 70? - It is currently 65 for non prorata and point as shown in the attached pix for prorata ( based on Oct 4th Official result)
2) are there points attached to obtaining a B.Eng (Mechanical/ Production)>? (i couldn't find anywhere on AUS website where such was stated) if yes, how many points for a 2.1 holder? - As long have you have a degree equivalent to Aus degree ( Mech engr is equivalent) you have 15 points regardless of grade. even if na pass
3) i am 28 (30 points),
4 years experience (5 points),
English test (10 points) i am anticipating this at the very least

5) i get paid in cash considering that its a private firm. how do i go about the whole payslip and tax clearance ish? If you are paid cash or by bank tranfer. your tax ( and pension in some cases) is usually deducted by your organization and whatever is remaining is paid to you by hand or into bank. So request for your payslip from ur organiztion and let them split ur income to show tax deduction.
6) any help or link to an IELTS/PTE test center in Enugu would be appreciated (i am open to possibilities) - No idea

Bro,

I believe with your enabling skills as you have highlighted you can get 20 points in English. You have a better chance than I do.

For Speaking - Pronunciation of 62. I think if you can be a little bit more fluent while describing enough content you will get it.

For R and W - Work on your Summarize Written Text (SWT) and see your score in Reading and writing increase above 79+. SWT contribute a lot to R and W don't just focus on the essay. I tested it out in mock. I wrote exactly the same essay, choose exactly the same answer in reading but changed only SWT and score increased to 86 from 73 in writing while reading increased to 80.

For

Listening - Try and write Summarize Spoken Text like a paragraph. Intro statement(s), point 1, point 2, ...(linking the points together) and Conclusion. This contribute to both Writing and Listening

You will get it with PTE. The PTE software recognize your pronunciation, that is about the most difficult thing in this English exam and you are already OK with it.

Fix the above and I know you will be OK.

Cheers

Reading 73
Speaking 72
Writing 71

Grammar 78
Oral Fluency 74
Pronunciation 62
Spelling 85
Vocabulary 66
Written Discourse 76

I asked a frd to help do the enquiry on results tin to help me remark writing and speaking parts but I was told the time allowed for remark has elapsed due to my dad burial arrangements. I am fed up with PTE as I need 20 points and not claiming experience points. Should I revert to IELTS n work towards getting straight 8s or I should stick to PTE or enrol for TOEFL. Is there any hope? Or what do I need to do to get 20 points. I need your advice pls.

If you have not assess before just give it a try it is worth it. Unlike those of us that have assess before and already submitted a set of reference letter.

If Positive, Case closed. Amount spent = 550 AUD, time = 4-5 weeks max

Worse case scenario which is still good ...

after 4-5 weeks you get -ve assessment = 550 AUD

then change it to positive in another ANZSCO by

Apply for review immediately to choose another ANZSCO that people have previously assessed to have a sure positive result = 375 AUD

Positive, total amount spent = 550+375(925) AUD, time = 6-8 weeks ( result comes just before Christmas break grin)

Just my analysis if you dont mind the extra fund

OK. When do you plan to retake.

don't rush your phrases or sentences. I got 62 P and OF 70 with 70 score point.

my pronunciation was 39 in one and OF 74 with 57 score.

I found out that saying jargons sometimes does not matter so far it's English.
speaking loud and clear too helps the pronunciation.

I would intimate you of the progress this week.

1) Yes it is possible for you to get a positive assessment for a 4 year course with 2 years experience.

2) You will need to get the assessment 1st to be sure your 4 years degree ( If a Nigerian degree) is assessed as equivalent to Australian degree to claim 15 points. If you are only able to get 65 points your chances for Computer Network and System Engineer is slim next to nothing actually. You will have a better chance if you nominate a less competitive occupation not on Prorata e.g ICT security Specialist (newly added to the 189 list) if you are willing to spend the money for a review just in case you get a negative at first but I think it is worth the try as 65 would be enough for you.

3) With Computer Network Engineer, so far no state is sending out invite though they are sponsoring and we have apply since forever. But for other less competitve occupation people got invite.

3. What are the chances of getting state sponsorship

I was able to get 80 in mock test A ( OF - 83, P - 50) before I attempted this last one. That's how I am able to know what works and what doesn't. Especially for LR&W. But speaking is proving stubborn.

Probably to ensure people don't just cram responses especially for repeated takers like us. I think the best thing is to prepare for all possible images and not over focus on the popular images. Pictures and maps included. The exam memory is coming back now, Imagine I got 4 pictures and 2 wicked line graphs. No bar chart, pie chart.

1 is a picture of London. Left side of picture, london in 17xx & right side of picture London in present day.

Diggy. I think when we speak too fast we tend to muddle our words up and it therefore affects pronunciation. With practice I believe we can improve both.

In my own case my last 2 attempts both increased. But I must have missed out some important contents on the Describe image sections. Since my pronunciation is not that great sad . Content is important for me. I got 4 strange pictures (not bar graph, line graph, map or cycle which I had over prepare for)

Last attempt Speaking 72 - OF 80, P - 45
Most recent attempt Speaking 70 - OF 89, P - 49 ( total score decreased, thougb fluency and pronuciation increased due to low content in image description i believe)

diggy4real:

You tried... The mystery still remains why pronunciation increase affects fluency. I mean increase in fluency decreases pronunciation.
