So far, what we know is that you can claim education point for your highest qualification obtained in any discipline as far as the point you are claiming is correct according to the AQF equivalent.

OzyMigrant:

Hi Azy123, taking this further - do you know if someone who assesses with TRA (as a Baker, using a trade certificate) but also possess a section 1 university degree in another discipline (English) claim points for education as well with DIBP?

Congratulations to you.

Your education point is 15 points. Don't shortchange yourself o.

you can claim point for the education even if ACS did not say anything about it as far it is a 5 years course in a section 2 university or 4 yr course in section 1 university.

No need to assess with Vetasses at all. Don't waste time and money. You only need to do that if your assessing authority says they can not assess your degree and refer you to vetassess. in your case ACS is silent on it.

Please submit another EOI ASAP with 75 points.

Abeg I go need PTE training from you o. grin

ZoeW:
Finally, after what seems like an eternity I have gotten a positive assessment from ACS for ICT Business Analyst (ANZSCO 261111). A big thank you to Azy123 and Alphadoor for your help. God bless una!!

I got 20 points from my PTE done 2 weeks ago (after a battle with IELTS) so we are good to go. EOI submitted.

But as we all know in this process there is always one k-leg or the other so house please advice me: Since I went through the RPL route, ACS did not assess my degree, rather the assessed a professional qualification which I have as follows:

Your Certified Information Systems Auditor from Information Systems Audit and Control Association completed October 2014 has been assessed as comparable to an AQF Diploma with a Major in computing.

This gives me 10 points instead of 15. So I have 70 points with a break down below:

Age - 30
English - 20
Experience - 10
Education - 10

Let me inform the house that this ANZSCO code is very competitive and people with 75 points were not invited last round. Do you think I should get my degree assessed by VETASSESS? How long does it take on average? Or should I wait it out till number for this ANZSCO drops? (How long would that take?) Abi to do state nomination? I am just confused right now.

Hoping for ideas guys. Thanks.

Bros, I just hope this your opinion will not turn to reality o. nobody got invited with 60 points last round. Hopefully things will change next round.

Problem with that is that many occupations will suffer for it.. Cos nobody will ever get invited with 60 points... If you sabi the kind backlog of 65 pointers in some occupations.... You go fear fear...

Alphadoor has done justice to your question.

Chai 3 years , 5 points much needed.

You can apply for review for that period but you will need to submit another reference letter for that period.

buzu84:

Thanks Boss for the feedback,

I was really just wondering why they had to assess my Bachelors degree as a associate as the AQF levels documentation for Level 7 Bachelors which states Graduates at this level will have broad and coherent knowledge and skills for professional work and/or further learning between 3 to 4 years, Computer courses are included in the Course content from my 100 Level up until 400 Level. I guess maybe it's just the way they assess Nigerian private universities...just wondering what their justification is.

I Submitted a total of 11 years. but 3 years of those was reviewed as Unsuitable the reason was that it was not closely related to the Nominated ANZSCO, so out of the 8 years accessed, 5 years was deducted as reason to Associate Degree. Leaving me with 3 years for EXP claim. Thinking if i submit a review of the unsuitable 3 years Career Episode i would be able to get additional 5 points.

Can i PM you please @Alphadoor

I think what they are saying is that in deciding who to nominate Victoria consider overall experinece hence the reasn for asking for detailed CV.

Point claiming is another thing on the other hand. If you want to list all your experience, better to check ( mark) only those approved by ACS as skilled when ask the question of whether experience is related to nominated profession or not. Only those marked would be used in calculating your point.

trastar:
So my ACS ppl,
A number of people have written to Victoria asking whether they should fill the exact number of years of experience they have or the years accessed by ACS.
Response was
"Thank you for your enquiry to the Victorian Government's Skilled and Business Migration Program.

The Victorian Government nomination process is in no way connected to the Australian Computer Society's (ACS) assessment of work experience.
Applicants must provide a detailed CV which includes the relevant information about work experience and checks may be undertaken where necessary. Our office considers overall experience.

All applicants must meet the work experience requirements for your occupation. Check the State Nomination Occupation List for these requirements.

Work experience gained during an apprenticeship is not counted toward the minimum work experience requirement. Only paid work experience gained post-qualification is counted toward the minimum work experience requirement. You should still include any 'pre-qualification' work experience on your resume.

Work experience may be 20 hours/week (part-time)"

In my opinion. If they want to copy Canada style. that means cutoff will change ever round and whoever meets cutoff will receive ITA. It would be a good news for ICT professions and accountants since equql cutoff would be used for everyone. No more prorata grin

-----Just my Opinion ------

Alphadoor:
Since DIBP is yet to release the occupational ceilings.
I am just thinking...!!!
What Invitation changes Canada Cut off per round style for every occupation. this will mean no more pro-rata arrangement.
what will the cut off marks?
How will this affect applicants?

Also to those familiar with Canada express entry, what do u think?

Lets have a constructive discussion on this while we wait to hear from DIBP..

If your application is properly packaged ( by writing the job description to closely align with the nominated occupation and enusuring the number of hours for part time jobs is greater that 20 clearly stated on the letter for them to see) , Then 2008 to 2017 experience is 9 years. With RPL they can deduct 6 year ( 2008 t0 2014) and you can claim 3 years - 5 points for experience.

calculate your points and see if you can get up to 60 or 65 points - use that to guide yourself as to the ICT profession you will nominate. some are highly competitve and requires 65 point on 189 and are not getting state invitation at the moment while some are not on the 189 list but are getting state nomination with 60 points.

Experience - 5 points,
Education - 10 points,
Age - ?
English test - ?

really tricky. You will need to go through the ICT professions and choose one to nominate. It should be possible for you to get employment reference letters for any part time job done also before 2012 or even before your studies to ensure that you have enough years of experience for them to deduct.

For Non ICT diploma - you need to write Recognision of Prior Learning (RPL) and they will also deduct 6 years from your experience ( part time - work, more than 20 hours per week, during studies and full time work before admission to study is acceptable by them)

the rest depends on your age and english test result.

So there is hope. It all depends on you.

castrokins:
Very Tricky, Sir.
Since Bellong's Comment, I Have Been On The ACS Website Trying To Make Sense Of Their Requirements. Sure They Accommodate Qualifications With Minimal Or No ICT Contents, But Again You Must Satisfy Some Other Requirements Incidental To The Process. Whew!!!

Mamajaz,

We are happy to help. But where did you put the directors of ACS - bolaobby, config desgin, 1 Naira50kobo, Sunvick, vinsmuft, doyen...
evryone is contributing in our own little way.

Let that sister of yours ask away.

But with the info so far. adn with everyother thing being he same - No information about new ceiling yet, 65 point for ICT professions on 189 Skilled list etc... I would advise that she go for state nomination and probably access as one of those less competitive ICT profession. We have witness some peeps getting ITA from NSW stream 2 with those profession while we are still waiting for ITA :-)

Age : 25
Education : 10
Experience : few years experience? how many years after graduation? I assume 5 points
English test: 20 points

Total = 60 points ( +5 state nomination) . She still have hope.

20 points in english required or not depends on how many years of experience she has post graduation and proper packaging of assessment application.

mamajaz:
ACS group manager, Alphadoor, ACS chief of staff AZY123, there be this sister of mine Wey study computer something ( HND), preparing for IELTS, age point is 25 and have few years of experience. Please help me tutor her on what to do. She's a #GMPC member.

Thanks for the info sir,

I pray I get the money for all of us before ITA land. Just over planning things ahead.

bellong:
@Azy123,

That particular question is not for immediate family members. It is for other family like parents, siblings etc. There is another for immediate family members except it has been changed.

Nevertheless, what you can do is to answer yes to all the questions, pay for yourself alone to meet the 60 days deadline. Upload all documents except that you don't do medicals. Once you get a CO contact, advice the CO to put your application on hold because you want to add your family to the application.

Although, you can contact DIBP at anytime after submission to put your application on hold so you can add family members. It is the easiest way to buy time while looking for money for others.

Hi all,

I just want to confirm something.

If for example I answered yes to the question below during EOI submission

-------
Family members
Are there any family members the client would like to include in a future application? - Yes\\

How many - 3
-------
Then got ITA and if I decided not to include wife and 2 kids due to financial reason at the time of lodging the VISA application and not to exceed the 60 days deadline.
Can I still add them at any time before the VISA is granted?
Can I add the kids alone considering the fact the I am a man?

Thanks.

Until you are assessed before you can know for sure.

Whether they access it as degree or diploma as far as ACS is concerned just have enough years of experience for them to deduct and you will get ur +ve assessment. But make sure ur JD is ok o.

For DIPB, qualification point, whatever ACS says ur qualification is that is what they will use. If ACS did not say anything about ur qualification then u can just use what the Education profile says or assess it by VETASSES.

Note that VETASSES will most likely use the education profile because they are robots so why waste ur money to Assess education point with them.

All of the above are my opinion.

petetherock:
please i would like to know if the Uniben falls underSection1 or 2. However does this AQF converssion apply to ACS ?

I am yet to submit. By God's before they resume Tuesday morning work in Oz i would have submitted.

@ZoeW I have 3 sample RPL for Your friend guide. But i need to take permission from the person that sent it to me. If she says it is ok i will let you know.

Also your friend should maximize the RPL opportunity. They will deduct 6 yrs it is better if she can get reference letter or statutory declaration of work done prior & during university days so that all her experience from day of graduation from surv & geo can be used to claim points 10 points. This can save her a lot if english test stress.

As far as ACS is concerned It is in ur hands.

FYI

As seen on the country education profile site when i still had access

Disclaimer
These assessment guidelines are only a guide to the educational level of an overseas qualification on the (AQF).
Where a decision is for:
admission to study, Australian education institutions are solely responsible
work in a profession, Australian professional bodies are solely responsible
work that requires specific competency requirements for AQF qualifications or National Training Framework Australian assessing authority is solely responsible. This includes trade qualifications (see Trades Recognition
secondary school qualification comparability, the appropriate state or territory secondary.

My conclusion/opinion on these matter is that you can be 100% sure that 4 year courses in section one university and 5 years in section 2 university are equivalent to AQF bachelor. Any other thing would assess by the assesment body on a case by case basis.

ogbevireo:

So most Nigerian Universities are in section 2.

Thanks for the info.
