Firstly, I will like to infer this. I have been in three countries in the world with the UK being one where I went for a family/business visit. I am also doing quite average with my business here in Nigeria. So there is no envy in this topic.

However, I have noticed this of recent. Most Nigerians who relocated out of Nigeria suddenly have a superior feeling above their country people back at home. Out of 10 fellow Nigerians I know who relocated, at least 7 of them directly or indirectly try and inflate themselves over you like they are mega superstars all because they are now in a country that their fathers and ancestors did not raise a finger to develop.

The only comments they make about Nigeria are bad ones and they always demonize their fellow countrymen as if they didn't stay in Nigeria most of their lives. And if you contact them from here, you can sense the pride in their response. Or they give this chat attitude when you communicate with them like if you are the new bug in town that should be avoided.

This is not limited to colleagues or friends, it is even worst among family members. My ex has finally gotten the guts to block every communication with her younger sister who went to the USA. The girl was able to get an American man in his 50s to marry and since then, the last born wants to control the family because of the $100 monthly she sends to the parents.

I know they will come for me but I no blame una. Na the useless leaders wey no sabi anything na them I blame. And for the record, I am not relocating. I will keep doing my business here and I will not sell my landed property to travel abroad whether it is to work in an office or wipe old women's arse for a living. Because you are in a white man's land doesn't make you any better than me or anyone you left back home.

Kudos to those who didn't let seeking greener pastures abroad change them.

Most of the schools that do it are in South West, like Southwestern University of Nigeria, Bells University of Technology etc

First hnd people are trained for industry not academia, so they can’t become lecturers. Except they get their advance study

2) hnd are qualified for Coren. It’s just that they’d be registered as technologists (which is what they’re trained for)

3) maybe those countries don’t require their skills set

We're saying the same thing!!! All what you listed here are the limitations that HND Graduates are attempting to avoid by opting for a Bachelor Degree through Top Up program.

Since it's simply an opportunity for HND holders to get a BSc through an added program, then it's a very good idea.
I thought the implication was for FG to simply convert the paper/document from HND to BSc.

So you can see that NUC is over reaching this time, Overtime HND Graduates have suffered uncontrollable limitations in their careers for no reason simply because they don't have a Bachelor's Degree.

And it's never been about Inferiority complex, it has always been about career limitations within and outside Nigeria, it's time to break barriers, HND Graduates go and get your Barchelors Degree and be at par with your counterparts.

The country no doubt failed the HND holders by not providing the suitable industries for them to thrive and prosper as they used to. But the solution is not to convert the degree since they are different degrees.

The solution
On the part of FG/SG- Is to fix the industries for HND holders to thrive.
On the part of the HND holder- get admission into University to get the benefits of BSc.

We're saying the same thing, conversion means securing admission in an accredited University and obtaining your Bachelor's Degree.

HND holders who take their courses seriously usually fair better than BSc holders on the field because they are more grounded in the technicalities and hands-on practicals.
While some BSc courses like wise afford technicalities and practical, the focus is ually more theoretical.

So converting HND to BSc is actially ludicrous and asinine to say the least.

To idea alone reeks of intellevctual decadence and high sense of insecurity of the minds that conceived it.
But then again, this country has been upside down since the 80s and writer rightly noted.

Please be realistic, HND Graduates have so much limitations in Nigeria, e.g

HND Graduates can't become Lecturers in Nigeria even if they Obtain PGD and MSc.
HND Graduates are not eligible for PTDF Scholarships and all other federal and state government scholarships for MSc studies.
HND Graduates are not eligible for COREN.
HND Graduates are not eligible for the various Job Seeker Visas introduced by many countries.
HND Graduates don't go beyond Level 14 in Federal and State civil service.

So you can see that it's not about inferiority mindset, it's about opportunities passing you buy in the Nigerian system which you can easily make right by opting for a Top Up program

OLULAW:
There is no where in the world where parity exists between HND and BA/BSc. They're two different programmes with different learning outcomes. If you cannot be admitted to a university and you went to Poly to gain ND/HND, to gain a unuverdity degree in the same subject, you'll have to undertake prescribed number of units before being awarded the degree. This is what overseas universities call top up. But you simply cannot convert HND to BA/BSc, it's not a currency.

Conversion and Top Up means the same thing.

I'm currently running a conversion program and it's 4 semesters so there's no argument here.

It's like some people are not Happy that HND graduates now have a Pathway to obtain a Bachelor's Degree and enjoy the benefits that comes with it.
