A reincarnation of stories. Jesus Christ is Abel and was killed by his brother Cain and so he had to eventually be reborn again and Cain who is the same person as Herod , in usual fashion was looking for him to be born so he can kill him again. He has a program in him which is to kill his brother in every reincarnation they find themselves. Adam is Joseph and Mary is eve and Herod is Cain.

Remember that, nothing last forever...

The African-Americans of today where slaves and they were sold around and molested anyhow... Today they're free.

One day, Nigeria will rise and face the oppressors. Might be soon or later.

Who would've believed that PDP will be out of power? But today APC is there and someday, another party will take over.

Things will get better, whether we like it or not.

It will be a revolution and it will sweep across all the tribes and all the class of individuals.

Romance / Re: See What My Virgin Girlfriend Did by BabbanBura(m): 4:07pm On Aug 24
Jacktheripper:
I should be reading for next week's test, but right now I have a heavy heart that I hope will lighten after writing this.

I suffered my first heartbreak as a young boy 2 years ago.

You know how it is - that first love hits you like a bowl of too-spicy pepper soup. But just as I was finally able to eat without thinking of her, another virgin girl decided to play a game of table tennis with my heart.

It happened on a family vacation, of all places.

The girl who made my heart do the shaku shaku without any music. We connected faster than Lagosians running to catch the last danfo of the night.

It was all innocent stuff, mind you - just hand-holding and the occasional peck that left me feeling like I had won the lottery.

We kept in touch over the years, meeting up whenever we could.

Each goodbye felt like watching Nigeria lose a football match in the 90th minute.

Fast forward to last week, she came to visit, and hope bloomed in my chest like flowers in a garden.

I took her to a house party, thinking this was it - our time to shine. We were closer than bread and butter all night.

But then, she vanished.

I assumed she had fallen asleep in the basement - a place more mysterious and inaccessible than our president’s promise. I ended up passing out on a couch upstairs, dreaming of our future together.

Little did I know, my uncle - who was more like a brother to me, with only a 7-year age gap - was about to sub in for me.

They slept together that night, and she lost her virginity.

Now, let me paint you a picture of my luck with the ladies.

Remember that first girlfriend I mentioned? Well, she lost her virginity to my friend at the time - while we were still dating.

And where did this betrayal happen? In the spare room right next to my bedroom. I heard everything - a free audio drama I never asked for.

If my love life were a movie, it'd be titled "How to Lose a Girl in 10 Seconds" or "No Room for the Backup Striker". Trust issues? I have got more of those than there are potholes on Nigeria roads.

But don't worry about me, oh. As we say in Nigeria, "No condition is permanent."

Who knows? Maybe one day I'll write a bestseller: "How to Lose Your Girlfriend to Your Uncle and Other Party Tricks." Until then, I'll be here, guarding my heart more carefully than a Nigerian mother guards her special pot of chicken.

So, to all you virgin-seeking vigilantes out there, I say this: Maybe it's time to update your search preferences.

After all, in this game of love, experience often trumps innocence. And who knows? While you're busy playing guardian to a virtue that was never yours to protect, you might miss out on a connection more genuine than a... well, more genuine than my uncle's sudden interest in basement exploration

Wetin mek we do?

Politics / Re: N150bn Presidential Jet,N5bn Yacht,other Lavish Spendings By Tinubu by BabbanBura(m): 7:26am On Aug 23
coputa:

Public outrage continues to trail the purchase of a new presidential jet by the Bola Tinubu administration.

The government’s decision to allocate over N150 billion for the purchase of the aircraft, at a time when Nigerians are grappling with a tough economic environment and a lingering cost of living crisis, has angered many.

Mr Tinubu’s policies of subsidy removal and exchange rate unification have led to increases in the prices of commodities, which experts believe are driving the current inflation.

The president has, in the past one year, urged Nigerians to bear with the hardship occasioned by those policies.

However, the government does not appear keen to follow its own counsel, as inflation currently stands at 33 per cent.

In this report, DAILY POST reviews some of the most lavish purchases under the current administration.

Presidential Jet

The Airbus A330, which replaced the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700(BBJ) bought under the presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo, reportedly cost the Nigerian government over $100 million.

It should be recalled that the government secured the approval of the House Committee for the purchase of this luxurious jet, which drew the ire of many Nigerians who have described the government’s action as insensitive.

Although the National Assembly claimed it is yet to appropriate money for the purchase, the president has already taken the jet for a flight to France.

Meanwhile, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has consistently maintained that he is ready to grant any approval requested to finalise the purchase.

“I don’t see how it is feasible that the topmost priority of a government dealing with the level of biting hunger and poverty in the land is to consider the purchase of a befitting aircraft for the president,” Oby Ezekwesili, a former minister, said during an appearance on Arise Television’s ‘Politics Today on Sunday.

Presidential Yacht

Last year, there was significant backlash against the government for the planned purchase of a presidential yacht.

In the 2023 supplementary budget of N2.17 trillion, President Tinubu proposed N5 billion for the procurement of a presidential yacht.

The uproar over the proposal led to the National Assembly declining the request and diverting the money towards other expenses.

However, according to several sources, the yacht had already arrived in the country at that point. The government has neither confirmed nor denied this.

DAILY POST learnt that the House of Representatives is putting pressure on the Navy to return the ship to the vendor.

N21 Billion House for Shettima

Another controversial expense since this administration took office is the reported N21 billion spent on the completion of the official residence of the Vice President.

The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, prioritised the completion of the residential project despite other competing infrastructure projects needing attention.

But despite public outrage, the minister proceeded to complete and commission the project.

N160 Million Cars for National Assembly Members

Amid the current economic hardship, members of the National Assembly also received their share of the luxury with the purchase of luxurious Sport Utility Vehicles, which are believed to have cost N160 million per unit for members of the House.

It is unclear what the Senate received, but they are expected to get more.

While the House claimed that the vehicles are official cars to be returned at the end of the administration, DAILY POST learnt that some lawmakers opted for cash instead of the car.

N90 Billion Subsidy for Hajj

The government also spent N90 billion on the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

It could be recalled that the devaluation of the naira led to a sharp increase in the cost of Hajj for the 2024 exercise, with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) forced to review the fee several times.

The government subsequently intervened with a N90 billion subsidy; however, that money is now the subject of multiple probes by different anti-graft agencies.

The Chairman of NAHCON, Jalal Arabi, and several other management staff were arrested by the EFCC over the alleged mismangement of the N90 billion subsidy.

N1.5 Billion Cars for Office of the First Lady

Nigerians have had a complicated relationship with the Office of the First Lady due to the overbearing nature of some of its occupants, who, despite being unelected, are notorious for intruding into governance.

There is also the cost associated with running the office, which is largely a ceremonial role.

In the 2023 supplementary budget, the government proposed N1.5 billion to buy vehicles for the office.

Politics / Re: The Storm Clouds Are Gathering: Towards A Totalitarian State? by BabbanBura(m): 2:39pm On Aug 20
CAkpos:
The #EndBadGovernance protest, which started on August 1, 2024 and formally ended on August 20, 2024 has continued to raise discussions across the country and beyond, especially within civil society groups. More than 1,400 people who took part in the protest have reportedly been arrested and detained by security agencies with indications that the government is still trying to hunt down suspected sponsors of the protest.

One of the important lessons from the protest is that the storm clouds seem to be really gathering towards a totalitarian state – a system characterized by a strong central rule that attempts to control and direct all aspects of individual life through coercion and repression. In political science, totalitarianism is the extreme form of authoritarianism, wherein all power is held by a dictatorial nanny state that promotes group-think through blackmail and propaganda. Group-think, according to the American social psychologist Irving Janis who coined the term, is “the mode of thinking that persons engage in when concurrence-seeking becomes so dominant in a cohesive in-group that it tends to override realistic appraisal of alternative courses of action.” In groupthink, loyalty to the group requires individuals to avoid raising controversial or non-conforming issues and ideas or even alternative solutions.

All news here: https://thenews-chronicle.com/

The first lethal blow to liberal democracy by totalitarians is the ‘chilling of speech’. This refers to a situation where individuals or groups refrain from exercising their constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech (both verbal, and symbolic such as organizing peaceful protests) for fear of running afoul of a law or regulation. The ‘chilling of free speech’ is a form of ‘prior restraint’ (a form of censorship that allows the government to review the content of printed materials to decide whether such should be published or not). When free speech is successfully stifled, even an honest opinion could be construed as an incitement by the totalitarian state which then uses it as a pretext to come after purveyors of the speech it does not like. As the American jurist Wendell Holmes famously put it in Gitlow v New York (1925), “Every idea is an incitement… The only difference between the expression of an opinion and an incitement in the narrower sense is the speaker’s enthusiasm for the results”.

Totalitarians come in different guises, usually rationalizing their desire to chill free speech by hiding under higher values. A good example is the ‘end of politics’ sycophants in the Tinubu government. This is an overzealous but self-serving group which, in the wake of the Supreme Court affirmation of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the President after the controversial 2023 presidential election, began an aggressive quest to muzzle free speech by those they consider as opposition elements. They did so (and still do) using various mantras such as “the time for politicking is over, it is now the time for governance” or “the President should be allowed to concentrate on governance”, the “President should not be distracted”, “those who lost elections should wait until 2027” etc. The irony is that the advocates of “the end of politics” are themselves being political. They are either trying to stifle the voices of opposition or blackmail critics of the government, both of which are needed in a democracy to keep the government on its toes for optimal performance. Ironically, some members of this in-group flaunt their ‘democratic credentials’ by constantly reminding us of their roles in the struggle for the revalidation of MKO Abiola’s mandate. The truth is that not all who partook in the noble struggle to re-validate MKO Abiola’s mandate were democrats. Some were drawn into the struggle by different motives, including defence of ethnic pride.

Just like the DSS infamously went after people who expressed an honest opinion of supporting an interim government after the 2023 elections and sought to blackmail the public into believing that such expressions of honest opinion amounted to intentions to commit treason, the ‘end of politics’ zealots, (many of who are linked to the government), are going overdrive to criminalize protest. I fail to see any crime not just in peaceful protests but also in the ‘sponsorship’ of such protests – which is actually a way of encouraging citizens to become active participants in the political process. And talking of sponsorship, are various state agencies such as the National Orientation Agencies and others that provide myriad forms of political enlightenment campaigns not also engaging in ‘sponsorship’ when they devise schemes for citizens to identify more with the government of the day, including funding pro-government or counter-protests? The only difference is that while one group is presumably ‘sponsored’ to voice its displeasure with the government (which is constitutionally allowed), another group is ‘sponsored’ to identify with the government of the day. Of course, supporting citizens to become active participants in the political process through ‘sponsoring’ peaceful protest must be distinguished from sponsoring an insurrection or encouraging violent protest or vandalizing people’s property, which is condemnable.

In the run-up to the protest, Bayo Onanuga, who had in the aftermath of the 2023 presidential election in Lagos proclaimed himself a Yoruba irredentist and weaponized ethnicity, accused Peter Obi of being the secret sponsor of the #EndBadGovernance protest. Others linked to the government have also variously accused Atiku Abubakar, the North, some Senior Army officers from the North, the Igbos and foreign interests of being the sponsors of the protest. There was also a threat to start a campaign for Igbo Must Go from August 20 2024 to force the Igbos to vacate Lagos and all the states in the South-west (so far no arrest has been made about the sponsors of the genocidal campaign). Recently, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, introduced a so-called Counter Subversive Bill 24 (now withdrawn), which proposed harsh penalties for Nigerians who refuse to recite the national anthem, destroy national symbols, or deface places of worship or who organize “an unlawful procession”. I see all these as gangster methods of chilling speech through the spreading of fear across the camps of opposition forces. Once free speech is successfully chilled, our current liberal democracy, as imperfect as it is, would be further corrupted into George Orwell’s dystopian account of a totalitarian state in his book, ‘Nineteen-Eighty-Four’. Since the price of freedom is eternal vigilance, it is important that anti-democratic forces, in whatever guises they come, are not allowed to gain an upper hand. It is germane to note that the very First Amendment to the American Constitution in 1791 was to protect freedom of speech, the press, assembly, and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. This is because free speech, and the marketplace of ideas which it creates, is the foundational structure of democracy. Without it, democracy dies.

olatade:
NAIROBI, Kenya -- A suspect who police said confessed to killing 42 women and was being detained over the discovery of dismembered bodies in Kenya’s capital has escaped from police custody, officials said Tuesday.

Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, 33, was being detained at a police station after the court allowed detectives seven more days to investigate his alleged crimes before charging him.

Mohamed Amin, the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, told The Associated Press it was “unfortunate” that Khalusha had escaped along with 12 other inmates after they cut through wire mesh in the cells and scaled the perimeter wall early Tuesday morning.

“This was a high-value suspect who was to face serious charges. We are investigating the incident and will take action accordingly,” said Amin.

Khalusha was arrested in July after 10 bodies and several body parts were found wrapped in plastic sacks in the Kware area of Nairobi.

Police said Khalusha confessed to killing 42 women, including his wife. Khalusha’s lawyer told journalists his client was tortured and forced to confess and maintained he was not guilty.

Two other suspects who were arrested after being found with mobile phones belonging to some of the deceased women will return to court on Aug. 26.

What usually helps me when I encounter new or difficult courses:
1. Start reading on time. Don't wait till towards the exam before trying to rush everything.

2. Have an outline of all the major topics from the beginning, and try to scan through all of them at the beginning of the semester. At this stage you don't really need to understand everything, it's just to familiarise yourself with the topics and know where major concepts are in case of references and revisions

3. Go back to basics each time you don't understand a concept. It's time consuming but that's why it's good to start on time. For example, in order to understand some biochemistry topics in 300L you may need to go back to related organic and inorganic chemistry topics in your previous 200, 100L etc

4. Get assistance from those who have understood the concepts you're trying to understand - small and large tutorial groups, friends (don't be ashamed of asking for help from that "little girl" in class who seems to be the teacher's favourite).

5. Nowadays you can even get the added advantage of watching several YouTube videos - I usually find those chaps from India very easy to understand

6. Sometimes it's good to study with past questions even when it's not exam time. It gives you an insight into areas the lectures are more interested in

Etc

Chiemeriee:
Call for Kyari's Removal: Abati Rebukes Reps Members
BY BONIFACE Okeke
Dr. Reuben Abati, a veteran journalist and former Senior Adviser on Media and Publicity to former President Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday, dismissed call by a fragment of the House of Representatives to sack the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Mallam Mele Kyari.

Abati, the lead anchor in the popular Arise TV breakfast talk show, Morning Show, described the call as "unfair, wrong, and unreasonable, noting that it is wrong for the legislators to ascribe the problem of the Nigerian Oil & Gas industry to just one man.

He argued that the NNPC CEO is not the root cause of the problems plaguing the petroleum industry explaining that the sector is plagued by deeper structural issues that have been ignored for decades.

"The problem with the oil and gas industry in Nigeria is not Mele Kyari. The problem is the way we have run our affairs as a country. Leadership is what is required to address these issues, not crucifying an individual."

While pointing out that the industry's challenges have been evident since the 70s, yet successive governments have failed to tackle them, he praised Kyari for making efforts to solve the problems and should be given the chance to operate.

Speaking further, Abati criticized the sponsored advertisements by a fragment of House of Representatives members, clamouring for Kyari’s sack.

"I think the bigger story is that we have seen some people in the media saying Kyari is the problem with the Nigeria Oil and Gas industry.
"We have seen people put up an advertisement for and against the sack of Mele Kyari. No, Mele Kyari is not the problem.

“There are fundamental issues with the Oil and Gas industry in Nigeria, which has been there since the 70s and no government has been able to address it.

"So, it is not about crucifying an individual. What Kyari, in my own understanding, is trying to do is to make an effort to solve the problem. But to assume that one man is the cause of the problem will be very unfair, wrong and unreasonable way to go.

"So, the members of the National Assembly who are saying they want to take Kyari’s head, no, they have their own heads in the wrong place. He is not the cause of the problem.

Abati, however, emphasized that the focus should be on addressing the systemic issues rather than blaming individuals, saying “Nigeria, and the way we have run our affairs so far, is the problem. Leadership is what is required. So, the ball is back in the court of the leaders.”

Since the Petroleum Industry Act came into force leading to the creation of the NNPCL about two years ago, the company has grown in leaps and bounds.

NNPCL, as presently structured, has broken new grounds in the two years it has been in existence as the management of the company under the leadership of Mele Kyari has steered the company away from the unprofitable ways of doing business to a more transparent and financial prudent means of administering the entity in line with global best practices.

In addition to a plethora of successes it's business value chain, NNPCL has received flowers for its success and renewed vigour in the execution of the gas commercialization programme aimed at leveraging the nation’s enormous gas resources to promote industrialization and boost revenues.
Another key stride recorded by NNPCL since 2021 has been the reversal of losses the company had been suffering.
In 2022 it posted its second consecutive year of ‘profit’ announcing N674.1 billion in the 2021 financial period and growing it from N287 billion in 2020. The figure represented an increase of N387 billion or 134.8 per cent when compared to the previous N287 billion recorded in 2020.
The improvement followed the approval of the 2021 audited financial statements by the Board of the oil company. The NNPCL has progressed to a new performance level from N287bn profit in 2020 to N674bn profit after tax in 2021, moving higher by 134.8% year on year profit growth.

This guy no sabi what’s up, he should just shut up and stop justifying a man at the core of Nigeria’s oil mess in the last few years.

Yes there is a systemic failure that made Kyari arroragantly bold to do what he is doing, but that doesn’t exonerate him for Abati to wash Kyari clean and push the blame elsewhere.

BAT encouraged and emboldened Kyari because Kyari dey smooth all BAT dirty deals and acquisitions

Crime / Re: Associates, Friends Honour Police Superintendent For Rejecting N150million Bribe by BabbanBura(m): 4:58am On Jun 29
Sinof:
Friends and associates of Ibrahim Ezekiel Sini, a Superintendent of Police, who declined a bribe of N150 million from a Lagos businessman and founder of Platform Capital, Akintoye Akindele, on Friday honoured him in Abuja.

One of the organisers of the event, Prince Chukwuemeka Asudeogu, CEO, Vegas Homes said SP Sini’s conduct remains exemplary and should inspire others and Nigerians to note that the Nigerian Police Force have men of integrity and good conduct.

“SP Sini’s actions have not only brought honor to himself and the Nigeria Police Force but have also inspired countless others to stand firm against corruption and uphold the highest ethical standards. His integrity serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that even in challenging circumstances, it is possible to remain true to one’s values.

“This honour is aimed at not only appreciating the laudable conduct of Superintendent Ibrahim Sini, but to demonstrate that society appreciates individuals of integrity and good conduct.

“We want to also show that the Nigerian Police Force have officers that are professional, above board and with the right incentive engage in meaningful policing and be worthy examples”.

While commending Sini’s character, he said that the hosting was just one of other means of appreciation they have in store for him.

“This is just the beginning of what we have in store for his commendable conduct. To reject N150 million takes discipline, the fear of God and professionalism. All these are attributes Officer Ibrahim has demonstrated.

“I enjoin my fellow Nigerians to support the efforts of the police so they can better police our country,” Okoye said.

Akindele, who is remanded in Kuje prison by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Duport Midstream Company who was alleged to have offered police a bribe of N150 million to pervert the course of investigation in a petition against him.

The business man was said in the charge to have dropped N50 million as part of the alleged bribe to the IGP’s team of investigators led by Ibrahim Ezekiel Sini.

According to the charge, the bribe was offered to allow police permit him to escape abroad and to write a favourable report for him after the investigation.

Akindele was arrested in respect of a petition submitted to the Police Chief by Summit Oil International Limited and was alleged to have swindled the firm of $5, 636, 397 and another N73, 543, 764.

Asked to comment on why he rejected the huge amount of money, SP Sini said he preferred to have peace of mind, remain truthful to the mandate and core values of the Nigerian Police force and maintain the integrity of his family name.

FCT Police Commissioner, Benneth Igweh who presented an award of a plot of land on behalf of the organizers said SP Sini’s conduct has brought pride to the Nigerian Police Force.
