after one year , a thick accent disappears ? bros , how she take do am abeg , I wan do too . do you know what thick accent is ... you should hear kanu who lived more than 10 years in europe speak .
Its all about consciousness, she did know that her classmates like my former girlfriend kept saying "say that again" whenever she communicated or tried to do so, hence an effort for improvement. Kanu is a super star right from inception of his career, he and a host of thers like him might not need to work on their accent (like telling C Ronaldo that he must speak English, or translate Portuguese to English); his skills have overwhelmed all.

The dumbest post I have ever seen and its making front page. If you speak a language like the owners of the same language, wouldn't that be a plus rather than a minus.
I noticed something about this dude, they are not intelligent enough in their family to learn new thing. Despite the PhDs in their family, they are stuck with the old ways.
A little bit about my experience. I acquired British accent from my Italian girlfriend who I dated for long in Europe. It is there and no body complains about the new identity.
I as a Nigerian was hardly understanding one Yoruba lady, a close friend whenever she spoke with this tick Yoruba accent. After her masters in the UK, honestly she speaks now like a Briton.
Let's stop ridiculing ourselves.
FamilyRe: TWO Years In Marriage!!! The Feeling, The Realization And Surprise. by babeface3: 5:16pm On Oct 19, 2014
Thinking of a score card for periodic review in marriage, yearly or quarterly. It will look like this:

Se.x................??

Care................??

General Character..........??

Respect................??

Marriage counselor could help make this more elaborate and comprehensive.

How would this work?

Every quarter or every spouse birthday, give the scorecard to your partner and ask him or her (depending on whose birthday it is) to score you.

The mark on each head should generate a healthy discussion, that would give room to improvement.

Marriage counselor/ graphic artist should undertake this novel initiative.

Flesh and blood has not revealed this!!

PoliticsUse Of Siren In Imo State And Reapeted Mention Of Abia Governor On State Radio by babeface3(op): 8:35am On Oct 10, 2014
I have been in the Eastern pert of Nigeria for a while now on a new assignment, particularly Owerri capital city of Imo State.

I noticed two bizarre occurrences in the twin states of Imo and Abia.

The first one is that there are no rules in Imo regulating the use of siren that create a hell of public nuisance, to the extent that every Tom Dick and Harry in the name of security personnel or escort to a politician running a simple errand blows the siren. Every 10 minutes comes the sound of an annoying siren from the road. That's quite Amazing.

For Abia State, you will not hear 2 words from the Radio without the name of the Governor. When the award was announced by the FG, the cost of congratulatory massages from boot leakers on radio alone if quantified in monetary terms could rehabilitate an important road in Aba. And as if the radio broadcasters were told to blow the trumpet in that fashion.

I am shocked at these things. We are still very far in this country.

HealthEbola-hit Sierraleone Starts School Via Radio by babeface3(op): 9:04am On Oct 09, 2014
Freetown - Sierra Leone on Tuesday launched an ambitious schooling effort for more than a million children denied their education due to the Ebola epidemic, saying lessons would be delivered via radio.

Classes in a variety of subjects will be broadcast for four hours, six days a week, on 41 radio stations and the country's sole TV channel, the government announced.

"The plan is to provide a suitable option for our school-going population as the entire school system has been disrupted since the outbreak of the Ebola disease," said Education Minister Minkailu Bah.

Schools have been closed since the government announced a state of emergency in July in response to an epidemic which has killed 3 500 people in west Africa, more than 600 of them in Sierra Leone.

More than two million of its population of 5.7 million are aged between three and 17, although in reality the secondary school attendance rate is less than 40% for both boys and girls.

Bah also admitted that reaching many of the nation's schoolchildren would be difficult in a country where radio ownership is around 25% and fewer than two percent have access to a television.

But with no end in sight to the epidemic, which has also engulfed Guinea and Liberia, Sierra Leone's economy and the education of its future workforce are in peril.

"As things now are we cannot expect schools to reopen until early 2015," said Sylvester Meheaux, of the Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools that is helping the government run the classes.

"In the meantime, we are worried some children would end up being drop outs, pregnant and otherwise. These developments are a major concern for us in the educational sector."

Public reaction to the announcement - which did not include details of how the scheme would be funded - has been mixed.

Illiterates

"This is not the type of tuition we used to know for our children, but we have little option," said Sam Mbayo, a retired clerk from the eastern district of Kailahun.

"Any means to educate our children rather than leaving them idle is welcome. Otherwise we are going to have a generation of illiterates."

Fatima Sheriff, a single mother from Freetown, said she was worried in particular about the damage the closures of schools was doing to the prospects of young girls.

"For many of them this is the end of their educational dreams as the choice of the going into prostitution and other vices loom," she said.

Manuel Fontaine, the regional director of UN children's fund (Unicef) which is supporting the initiative, said the radio classes would be focussed on teaching children "life skills" and maintaining their contact with the outside world.

But, he added, it was important that schools reopened as soon as possible, "partly because there is a problem of long-term damage in children who have no education, and because there is a risk that children will drop out of school, of education in general".

Bah, the education minister, said Sierra Leone authorities would "be devising other means (of) accommodating the hard-to-reach areas" without access to radios.

"We are quite aware that not all children will benefit from this method of teaching, but we are doing our best to reach as many children as possible", he said.

RomanceRe: Can You Marry Someone Who Has A Child? by babeface3: 9:42am On Oct 03, 2014
Talking from experience, the responsibility of bringing up a step son can be very intriguing but absolutely an interesting challenge to the mature minded. Maturity is not just physical maturity et al. There are a whole lot of spiritual underpinnings that could make such union a smooth sailing venture.

Single parents especially those that had traumatic past are always haunted by the same past, they are very suspicious and could go off handle 10 times in a day.

No don't get it twisted, lets go a little spiritual for those that are spiritually mature. The bible says those that are led by the spirit are the sons of God.

Do you know that you could be appointed a shepherd to a person that has had a child and that could be your point of blessing? Do you know that taking responsibility for that child abandoned by the father, (damn the philosophies of men) could herald an open heaven for you, blessing of unimaginable dimension.

Youths be wise, open ur spirit.

I am not saying you should do this but try to be led.

I would appreciate a candid advise for my friend who is still undecided about this critical life threatening issue. He works in Maiduguri, the notorious den of the popular terror squad in Northern Nigeria since last year. There had been twin bomb attempts both at a place very close to his residence and his work place both of which he survived. After these life threatening incidents, there came this very serious family pressure on him to leave the town, in fact, the whole of the Northern Nigeria.
I advised him in May to step up his efforts in finding alternative job. Folks, after some serious CV distribution, he got an offer from a Liberian University. The offer letter landed last week with instruction that he resumes in a fortnight.
I told him its a no no for Liberia because of Ebola! What do you think? Staying out of job will be crazy, receivables, bills, house rent almost due, children in school, wife's business nothing substantial,........ its terrible embarassed
SportsNigerian Tennis Player's Stunt At Commonwealth Games Go Viral, Video by babeface3(op): 12:32am On Jul 30, 2014
Monster ping-pong rally will blow your mind, or at least make you smile

If you're like us, ping-pong was something you played in a buddy's house after school, and it took about five points for the game to devolve into firing-squad target practice, where the goal was to hit your opponent, not the table.

But this is the Commonwealth Games, and these two table tennis competitors could hit the ball, the table, their opponent, and probably even a postage stamp from the other side of the arena. Behold the most ridiculously precise and athletic 40 seconds you're likely to see all day.

In the Games, currently taking place in Glasgow, Nigeria's Segun Toriola (in the green) waited out Singapore's Ning Gao in the 41-shot rally. Gao threw everything he could at Toriola, from hammer-slams to drop shots, and Toriola hung in there. And Gao didn't throw his paddle at Toriola, which is probably what we would have done.

Unfortunately for Toriola, Gao would go on to win the match. But at least Toriola's rally will live forever

PoliticsUS Supports Isrealy Gaza Assault, Plans To Fund Iron Dome by babeface3(op): 10:56pm On Jul 29, 2014
WASHINGTON (AP) — While much of the rest of the world watches the Gaza war in horror and scrambles for a cease-fire, U.S. lawmakers are pressing the Obama administration to take no action that puts pressure on Israel to halt its military operations.

Many even have criticized the administration's effort to stop the violence that has killed more than 1,100 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and more than 50 Israeli soldiers and three civilians this month.

"At times like this, people try to isolate Israel," House Speaker John Boehner said Monday. "We are here to stand with Israel, not just as a broker or observer but as a strong partner and a trusted ally.

"What does that mean? Well, it doesn't mean issuing vague, on-the-one-hand, on-the-other-hand statements. No, it means backing up our words and showing solidarity with our friend."

This week, legislators will discuss a $225 million request from the Defense Department to urgently bolster Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system.

Republicans and Democrats are clashing over whether to approve the funds in a larger spending bill or separately, though no one publicly opposes the payments. Senate appropriators already have approved doubling next year's money for the system.

Whereas the Obama administration and lawmakers agree on Iron Dome, other actions in Congress are more contentious.

Until Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz was hindering the appointment of several U.S. ambassadors to key allies by vowing to block all State Department nominees awaiting confirmation.

The Texas Republican said he was releasing his holds after the Federal Aviation Administration answered his questions about its 36-hour ban last week on U.S. airline flights to Israel. Cruz had claimed the prohibition was an "economic boycott" of Israel to pressure it into a cease-fire with the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

In a weekend call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Barack Obama stressed the need for an "immediate, unconditional, humanitarian cease-fire." Obama, a White House statement said, suggested larger questions would then come later.

Such talk has alarmed lawmakers of both parties.

In a letter last week to Obama, Democratic Sens. Chuck Schumer and Ben Cardin, and Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, said a cease-fire must eliminate Hamas' ability to fire rockets into Israel and place no restrictions on the Jewish state.

"Israel must be allowed to take any actions necessary to remove those threats," the senators wrote — a position that presaged by two days the Israeli government's unanimous rejection of Secretary of State John Kerry's cease-fire proposal.

Over days of intense diplomacy, Kerry has tried to secure commitments from both sides that would lead to peace. Congress, by contrast, has focused its energies on Palestinian actions and critics of Israel.

Cardin and Graham joined three Republican senators — Marco Rubio, Mark Kirk and Kelly Ayotte — in sending a sharply worded letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon after he described Israel's military operations as an "atrocious action."

Bipartisan resolutions making their way through the House and Senate would condemn Hamas' use of human shields.

Republican Sen. Rand Paul, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, formerly the bane of the Israel lobby for suggesting a U.S. aid cutoff, has said no one should question Israel's actions in a time of war.

The ebullient bipartisan support for Israel is also leading many House of Representatives and Senate members to rev up their opposition to the Obama administration's nuclear negotiations with Iran.

Those talks were extended through November after a series of meetings in Vienna earlier this month that coincided with the first week of fighting between Israel and Hamas.

Israel opposes any nuclear deal that would ease pressure on Iran while allowing it to maintain a uranium enrichment program.

As part of the extension, Tehran is gaining access to $2.8 billion in Iranian funds that have been frozen in overseas bank accounts.

Kirk, Ayotte and fellow Republican Sen. John Cornyn last week proposed a series of conditions on the money.

Their bill demands Obama block transfers until he certifies the money won't fund terrorism, nuclear or ballistic weapons development, or human rights violations. It would be almost impossible for Obama to certify those elements. The administration has rejected similar efforts as attempts to derail diplomacy.

Senate and House panels were holding hearings on the Iran diplomacy Tuesday. Wendy Sherman, the State Department's negotiator, and David Cohen, the Treasury Department's sanctions chief, were to testify.

HealthReasons You Are More Attractive to Mosquitoes Than Your Neighbors by babeface3(op): 12:22am On Jul 28, 2014
Mosquitoes are picky creatures — unsurprising if you’re the one always ducking for cover under a swarm of bloodsuckers while your friend remains unscathed. Good thing scientists are on the hunt to discover what makes certain people especially attractive to the tiny insects. Here are nine reasons they’ve come up with so far.

You Breathe

In many ways, no one is immune. The fact that humans breathe makes us all mosquito targets to varying degrees. More than 30 years ago, researchers discovered that carbon dioxide is one of the main reasons mosquitos seek us out. The insects will fly to higher concentrations of CO2 (i.e. - large groups of people at sporting events and backyard parties), then use other sights and smells to narrow down their target.

You’re Tall

Because larger people produce more carbon dioxide and more body heat, they’re naturally more attractive to mosquitoes. This is why, when in groups, adults usually get bitten more than children, and men are targeted more often than women.

You’re Pregnant

Along with swollen feet and morning sickness, pregnant women are also nearly twice as likely to get bitten than those who are not expecting, according to one international study. Two reasons: Pregnant women produce excess amounts of carbon dioxide and body heat.

You Exercise Regularly

During a workout, the body produces a chemical called lactic acid, which is released through sweat glands on the skin. And one German study confirmed that mosquitoes can detect and are attracted to lactic acid at close range.

Your Feet Stink

One study published in the journal PLOS ONE found that people with a higher abundance but lower diversity of bacteria on their feet are highly attractive to mosquitoes. The bacteria, which is pungent, is also found in Limburger cheese and is so effective at attracting mosquitoes, that scientists are using the cheese to trap and control the flies in Africa.

You’re Wearing Perfume

Mosquitoes suck the nectar of flowers for energy, so they’re attracted to floral scents. And certain floral odors are effective enough that researchers are figuring out how to use them to lure mosquitoes with their sweetness.

You’re Genetically Predisposed

Your genes are responsible for your body odor, so scientists are starting to test how genetic makeup could affect one’s susceptibility to mosquitoes. For example, one study published in the journal Infections, Genetics, and Evolution found that people with a particular HLA gene are more likely to be bitten.

You Drink Beer

Downing just one 12-ounce beer can increase the risk of being bitten, says the Journal of the American Mosquito Association, although it’s unclear why. Just make sure that backyard beer is worth it.

You Have O Blood Type

This one is debatable. Several studies, including the most recent published in the journal Experimental Parasitology, show that people with blood type O are more likely to get bitten. However Joseph M. Conlon, a technical adviser to the American Mosquito Control Association, has disputed some of the research, blaming “bad statistics.”
