The federal government has no plan to give any part of the Abacha loot to any governor
- The position was put forward by AGF Abubakar Malami in response to claims that the sum of $100 million is to be given to Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi
- Malami said that such reports are both baseless and aimed at destroying the reputation of the Nigerian government
Abubakar Malami, the minister of justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) has debunked viral claims that the federal government is planning to give the sum of $100 million from Abacha's loot to Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi.
Describing the report as false, Malami said that it is only the fabrication of detractors of the Nigerian government, BusinessDay reports.
There were online reports that the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo agreed to give Governor Bagudu the said sum for his efforts in the recovery of public assets looted by General Sani Abacha, a one-time military head of state.

The federal government said that President Muhammadu Buhari has no plan to give any part of the Abacha loot to Governor Atiku Bagudu.
It was claimed that the governor, who was alleged to have been instrumental to the looting, was in a US prison for about six months, but upon request for extradition to the Island of Jersey, agreed to return over $163 million of the total stolen funds in exchange for his freedom.

Sports / What Mourinho Aftet Tottenham 2-1 Defeat Against Chelsea by bacie(m): 8:18pm On Feb 22, 2020
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho speaking to MOTD: "I think you are going to be very bored with me, because I think I'm going to be very repetitive. I'm going to say exactly the same words I told against Leipzig.

"I'm very proud of the players, they gave absolutely everything. We don't have a striker. Our attacking players are not strikers and are in huge levels of fatigue, so very, very difficult for us. No tactical problems, [we were] completely in control of the space, punished by a couple of individual mistakes.

"In the last part of the game when Chelsea was scared of the 2-1 we didn't have that presence, that power, we didn't have that to do more than what we did.

"To create chances you need a target man or fast people that can interchange positions, you need a different dynamic to the team. We don't have a striker and we have tired players, it's as simple as that. We did very, very well. If we score before our opponent, I think we have a chance because we are well organised. But when they score before us and drop back it's very, very difficult for us.

"A defeat is a defeat, but the good thing is, in the last seconds the players were still fighting for a result and that for me is a very important thing."

On Lo Celso's challenge: "I didn't watch it. I didn't watch on TV and in the game. I don't know."

On returning to Stamford Bridge: "I didn't feel anything, honest. I was focused on the game, I didn't feel anything. No problem."

Politics / Nigerian Senate Makes Case For Nuclear Energy by bacie(m): 1:43pm On Dec 12, 2019
- Senators agreed with the notion that nuclear energy is one of cleanest and safest source of energy in the world today

- Recall that the Nigeria and Russian Federation have signed bilateral agreements on nuclear energy cooperation

As the federal government of Nigeria presses on with its plan to diversify the nation's energy mix - with inclusion of nuclear energy technology from Russia, the Nigerian Senate has also called for the inclusion of nuclear power into the country’s energy mix.

This was part of the resolution reached by the upper chamber recently following a motion by Senator Tanko Al-Makura representing Nassarawa South senatorial district.

The Senate noted that the primary sources of energy for the production of electricity in Nigeria includes gas, hydro, oil and coal, with current power generation capacity of 7000 mega Watts.

The lawmakers noted that experts using modern energy modeling tools had estimated that for the Nigerian economy to grow at the rate of 10 percent, the country’s electricity requirement by 2020 will need to reach 30,000MW, and by 2030 it will be 78,000MW.

The red chamber agreed with the notion that nuclear energy is one of cleanest and safest source of energy in the world today and nuclear power generation does not produce greenhouse gases.

The lawmakers also hinted that they are aware that in 2006, Nigeria ratified critical treaties with International Atomic Energy agency (IAEA) Vienna Austria, with the aim of enabling Nigeria access nuclear power into the country’s energy mix.

Recalling that the Nigeria and Russian Federation signed bilateral agreements on nuclear energy cooperation, the Senate pointed out that the recent visit by President Muhammadu to Russia was a move in the right direction to stimulate implementation.

Worried that power outages in Nigeria have constituted the major constraint to the development of the manufacturing sector and negatively affect the cost of running business in Nigeria and ultimately the economy of the country, the Senate opined that unless the energy mix in Nigeria is broadened to include nuclear energy, the persistent power outages being experienced by the country will not be easy to address.

Accordingly the upper legislative chamber resolved to:

1. Urge the federal government to reposition the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority to enable it to carry out its mandate of ensuring safety, security safeguards and physical protection of nuclear materials including hazardous waste in Nigeria.

2. Urge the federal government to re-engineer, refocus and recognize the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission with the mandate to ensure timely contacts and negotiations with nuclear vendors for construction of nuclear power plants with time line.

3. Urge the federal government to expedite action on the Nuclear Safety, Security and Safeguards Bill currently with the Senate; and

4. Pass into law all treaties and protocols on nuclear energy as ratified by Nigeria.

Recall that in 2017, Russia's state-owned nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom and Nigeria signed agreements for the construction and operation of nuclear power plants and nuclear research centre in Nigeria.

Last month, African countries were advised to embrace nuclear research and energy to empower and grow their economies.

The advice was given at the African Nuclear Business Platform conference that took place on Tuesday, 15 and Wednesday, October 16 October in Nairobi, Kenya.

The conference gathered over 150 energy and nuclear professionals from across the globe.

Politics / Re: Nigeria To Extend Electricity Line To Senegal, Ghana, Others by bacie(m): 4:17pm On Aug 24, 2019
The Federal Government, Wednesday, disclosed that it was building power transmission line to link up some countries in the West African sub-region. Speaking in Abuja at the 2019 participants/key stakeholders interactive forum organised by the Market Operator, the Managing Director of Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Mr. Mohammed Gur Usman, stated that the project will take a 330KV electricity transmission line right from Nigeria up to Senegal. He said, "In the whole of West Africa we are the only one that has the experience of 330KV but now 330 KV will run from Nigeria unto Senegal. "Let me be precise, we are going to have a 330KV that will run from Shiroro to, to Parakou, Parakou to Northern Togo, Northern Ghana to Cote devior
"Another one will come from Northern Ghana to Senegal to Guinea-Bissau, to Mali to Burkina Faso and it will join Ghana. This is the study that we have launched." To this ends, Usman charged the major stakeholders in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, NESI, especially, the Market Operator, MO, to be ready to assume the task of regional player in the sector. He said, "As the Chairman of West Africa Pool, WAP, I made the WAP to draft, the directives which was approved on the 22nd of May and 22nd of December, 2018. "That is the written of ECOWAS Head of State and Government of 22nf of December 2018. They approved that three directives and what are those directives that we forwarded to ECOWAS for approval are:
"First, All utilities in West Africa must have their revenue requirement. The second directive is that countries that elect not to give the requirement, they should budget for it in a transparent manner. "This means that if the utilities do not have their course reflective tariff then the countries should budget for it in a transparent manner that is they should provide for it in their national budget. "We did not stop there, we said that all utilities in west Africa should conduct themselves in such a way that they should do their procurement in a transparent manner- meaning they should adapt competitive procurement of their services and their goods because if we have the budget and we have the money and we apply it in an inefficient manner, it means that cost of energy will soon go up.
"In reality, if it is truly a market is driven by rules and regulation and people have to comply with the rules and there has to be sanction for performance and there has to be a reward of non-performance and a reward for extraordinary performance. "If a market is existing in such a way that everybody does not performance and can get away with it, there is no way that that market can grow or perform." According to him, "TCN may probably cease to exist very soon and then you will have TSP and ISO, ISO will be the one that will be operating the market operator under ISO and everything that I have to do for that transition to take place, I have been doing it daily. Every day I have been doing those things that would lead to those organizations to separate. "Because we have not applied the market position in our market tenders, in solar, you cannot say that Nigeria has comparative advantage but, in terms of normal generation that would be done by gas and hydro. "Nigeria still has comparative advantage across West Africa. Which means there is a demand for electricity from here to the rest of West Africa? What we are doing is to enable that happen. To enable that happen, we are going to build a transition line across West Africa so that we can export energy from here to the rest of Africa. "I am happy to tell you that the design consultancy Andes the environmental study for the medium backbone were launched.

Sports / Re: Andy Ruiz Jr Agrees To Fight Anthony Joshua In Saudi Arabia Rematch by bacie(m): 11:04am On Aug 24, 2019
However, the champion quickly came out and poured cold water over this, suggesting that he still wanted the contest to take place in the US. Now though, according to The Athletic , Ruiz Jr has been guaranteed ‘millions more’ than the $8million (£6.5million) originally set out in the rematch clause, and so he has consented to Saudi Arabia. Due to the fact the Mexican-American agreed to the rematch clause in the initial contact for the June 1 fight, Joshua’s team get to dictate when and where the fight takes place. Despite this, it’s claimed Ruiz’s team used the threat of refusing to compete in order to renegotiate. Ruiz Jr knocked Joshua down four times and stopped him Due to the fact neither side truly wanted to take their battle to a courtroom, a new agreement was reached in principle. It’s understood that on Thursday Ruiz received a fresh bout agreement with altered terms that will see him earn a total of around $10m (£8.2m). He’s expected to confirm he is now fully on board with the Saudi Arabia rematch in the coming days.

A BINI MAN WAS THE FIRST NIGERIAN GRADUATE Let us go further; who was the first known Nigerian graduate? As this issue has generated so much controversy, it is important that I deal with it comprehensively and provide a clear evidence to substantiate my research. Readers, again kindly google the name: Olu Atuwatse (Dom Domingo). Olu Atuwatse was the crown prince of the Bini Empire who was sent to Portugal in 1601 for advanced studies by his father, the reigning Oba. He graduated from the University of Coimbra in 1611. He is the first person to obtain a European university degree. He later married the daughter of a Portuguese noble, Dona Feirs. Their son Antonio Domingo referred to in Benin History as the Golden Skinned king, succeeded him to the throne in 1643. Antonio Domingo, a Christian who wanted to spread Christianity throughout the Empire wrote the Pope in 1652 asking for Missionary assistance. This is the oldest letter written in Nigeria. I think this lays to rest which ethnic national produced the first educated Nigerians. If required, I would provide other historical research to substantiate my position further. I ask my Yoruba brothers to provide the same. -" - details
