A six-year-old girl, Mariam Adeniji, is currently in shock after witnessing the killing of her father, Rafiu Adeniji, who was allegedly shot dead by policemen on Sunday. The little girl, who spoke to PUNCH Metro while trying to fight back tears, said her father was killed after challenging policemen over an accident along the Mangoro end of Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. She said, “My daddy was driving home when someone hit his car. He went to see the policemen; they just brought out their guns and shot him. They then ran away.” Another occupant of the vehicle, Lateef Okesola, who expressed shock at the incident, said it occurred in broad daylight. He said, “Adeniji, Mariam and I, were all in his Honda car; Adeniji was driving. We were headed towards Agege when we saw a white police patrol vehicle with the inscription, OPS Attack, chasing a commercial bus. So, Rafiu swerved to the side and allowed the vehicle to pass. “We continued on our journey but after a while, we found ourselves behind the same bus. Suddenly, the driver of the bus applied his brake.” Unfortunately for Adeniji, he couldn’t stop his car fast enough as his vehicle was said to have hit the bus from behind, causing Okesola to sustain a bruise on his head. An argument was said to have ensued between the bus driver and Adeniji after the motorist demanded payment for the repair of the bus. The deceased allegedly told the bus driver to blame the policemen for causing the accident. “The policemen were parked on the side of the road and when Rafiu approached them to discuss what had happened, one of them alighted and shot him in the chest before fleeing. “It was the sympathisers who gathered, that flagged down another commercial bus to take us all to the Isokoko Police Division,” Okesola added. After obtaining a police report, Adeniji was taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, where he was confirmed dead. Not long after his corpse was taken to his family home at Oshodi, Adeniji was said to have been rushed to a private hospital after a sympathiser claimed he saw the corpse move. However, Adeniji was confirmed dead again at Jericho hospital. When our correspondent visited Adeniji’s mother’s home located on Samura Street, sympathisers were seen coming in droves to condole with his aged mother said to be in her 70s. PUNCH Metro gathered that Adeniji was an employee of NAHCO. His colleagues, who came to sympathise with the family, described him as a hardworking man. Elder sister of the deceased, Titilayo Akintunde, described the incident as a nightmare, saying there was a need for the government to curb the excesses of policemen. She said, “One wonders why it is those that are paid to protect lives and property that “continue to add sorrows to our lives in this country. “My brother was not a thug. He was gainfully employed at NAHCO. He had a wife and two children. Unfortunately, his life was cut short in his prime. “The case is even more pathetic because he was killed in the presence of his six-year-old daughter and she has refused to eat since the incident. It is a sight that she will never “forget. We want justice for him. Imagine what our mother is going through right now?” When contacted on the telephone, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Damasus Ozoani, said, “There was a shooting in Agege area which led to loss of life. The patrol team within that area has been arrested and their arms have been taken for ballistic examination.” http://www.punchng.com/news/i-saw-policemen-kill-my-dad-six-year-old-girl/

BeraBera: Had it been the SSS did not raid that uncompleted building in APO and frustrate the terrorists plans, how would we have felt if that Kenya mall attack was replicated in Abuja?Nice comment but what is the meaning of ur name? it looks like beriberi ![]() |
PrettyRita: Why is the chairman of the KEKE NAPEP chairman saying that some of his members are still at large after the incident? Who are they and Where are there? This confirms the claim by the SSS that they are terrorists. Those ones at large are some of the suspect who may have disappeared back to their safe havenReally? then this brings a new twist to the whole panorama, cos if you are truly a legit keke Napep operator without anything to hide or any terrorist linkage, the best place to run to for safety would be ur chairman's place especially now that he is openly campaigning for ''justice'' for you. The 1998 Attack on American Embassy in Nairobi Kenya; these terrorist guys blended into the environment for over 14months engaging in fishing business and some humanitarian services and at the same time observing their target and planning the hit which was a success for them. That incident was a major reason why i did not doubt the DSS side of the story... |
roqchiq: and the police is saying nigerians should probe dss/sss and army over the killings, because dem no follow go.Exactly! |

luvable sam: They really need it..and have to sustain it.Terrorists in Nigeria are empty copy Cats with over 90% of them not knowing exactly what they are fighting for.https://www.nairaland.com/1451110/apo-killings-thoughts-nigerian Shey i told some people that for the fact that the Apo incident was in close proximity with Shoprite might pportray that there is some element of truth in the claims by the DSS about a terrorsit hideout...pple think say i just dey support them... We should learn how to relate events jare. |

Following the terrorist attack on Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi, Kenya, security has been beefed up at shopping malls in Lagos, Abuja and Kano. LEADERSHIP gathered that most of the shopping mall operators and customers are afraid that some terrorist group might try such an attack on the many malls that dot the big cities of Nigeria. Al Shabab terrorist group based in Somalia has claimed responsibility for the Kenya attack, which has claimed 68 lives with hundreds injured. The group is fighting for an Islamic state in Somalia, and Kenya has led a multinational force to stop it. At some shopping malls in Abuja, LEADERSHIP saw more security personnel than usual as well as increased surveillance of the surroundings. Shopping malls like Shoprite at Apo District, Ceddi Plaza and Grand Square, both at the Central Business Area, Abuja, have increased security personnel placed at strategic places to scrutinize prospective customers. At the popular Shoprite located at Apo District, our correspondent saw over 10 heavily armed soldiers who were at the entrance of the shopping mall searching vehicles and women carrying bags while some policemen also stood around. The branch manager of Shoprite in Apo District, Mr Samuel Asegiemhe, declined to speak to LEADERSHIP. "I am not permitted to speak with the press. There is actually nothing I have to say about what the management of the mall is doing to avert such thing because I am not in position to speak. You can speak to our head office in Lagos," he said. Some customers at the mall told LEADERSHIP that they were happy with the increased security there. A customer at Shoprite, Mr Martins John, expressed satisfaction at the presence of armed security personnel at the shopping mall which, he said, is a good development following the recent happening in Nairobi, Kenya. He told LEADERSHIP, "Nobody knows what this world is turning to, because you do not know where you will go to and be safe. With the presence of these armed military men, you feel safe when you are inside the mall. But the question is how long they will keep these military men here to avert any attack. Although we do not pray for such a thing to happen, we are scared. Because, the truth now is that if such dastardly act can take place in Kenya that is close to us, what can we say about Nigeria where the security situation has been questionable for such a long time? We are appealing to operators and managers of plazas and shopping malls not to relent in ensuring proper security because nobody can predict anything." http://allafrica.com/stories/201309240201.html |
samilo88: After reading the news on nairaland, did you go a step further to verify such news on international news channels like cnn and BBC? Now you talk as if it was nairaland that labeled the incident as an Islamic terrorist attack. Al–shabab has come out to claim responsibility so I don't know what rubbish you spewing here. Next time always verify news from reliable sources so you don't have to display your ignorance to the world.Over zealous gallant display of partial literacy is wat the OP succeeded in advertising... |
Vegetable soup: I luvs u.1st candidate for RESET...back to factory settings. |
I am here to speak my mind and regardless of what anyone might term it,na for your pocket. We have to come to terms with the very fact that these terrorists guys are taking their business to another dimension! Someone made an analysis that i felt compelled to reason with... We are all aware of the kenya Mall incident and how painful it touched us humans that a fellow Human being is asked the name of Prophet Mohammed's mother and if you fail...you are shot in cold blood. I got scared to even visit Shoprite at APO cos the incident that occurred in APO might not be far from a plan to replicate what happened in Kenya here in Abuja.... this might appear far-fetched to some people thats why they are my thoughts. If you are really of the opinion that the men of the DSS killed innocent squatters as claimed by some blockhead media reportage and BH sympathizers why did they not go on rampage after the Ombatse killing those guys wen they are unprepared...after all they were duly provoked by the killing of 10 of their men. There is just NO way, the men of the DSS whom have been in the fore-front of the BH fight would just get up one sweet morning and go kill random squatters...it just does not seem logical to me in any sense. The antecedent of the DSS speak for them so all you guys saying otherwise need some reset button to help you think for yourself...there are alot of uses for the head, one of them is to think, and not be swayed by saharareporters and other pathetic reporting to discredit the only agency policing the country just so that BH boys can have a field day... Be wise! All of you professionals in labelling NLanders with names just becos they express a diff view from the bandwagonism floating around ... feel free to tag me. I no send you! ![]() If you have a better opinion or even a worse one, the floor is open...knock yaself out! |

No fewer than 3,000 recruitment forms for the Delta State Civil Service Fire Department allegedly vanished yesterday. In line with Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan’s initiative to provide employment opportunities for Deltans, forms for the recruitment into vacant positions in the state’s Fire Service were reportedly printed free to enable qualified persons access the job. But this was not to be as the forms allegedly allocated 12 to each Ward in the 25 Local Government Councils, have “grown winds”, leaving thousands of the “unemployed” protesting at the premises of the state civil service. Unconfirmed sources said that the forms were allegedly diverted by top Civil Service officials for their relations/children,’ an opportunity for them to bring them on board. In the crowd of job seekers yesterday, six persons who were on the queue waiting to get the form(s) slumped and were rushed to a nearby hospital where they are at present responding to treatment. Leadership reliably gathered that the form(s) printed “Not for sale”, are allegedly kept in the office of a highly placed Civil Servant who unsuspectingly distributes them among his friends/relations including co-workers for sale in secret. Though officers at the civil service Commission denied sale of the forms, but some of them who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity confirmed that the forms “grew wings” adding that the situation at present has been creating rumpus. Leadership checks revealed that over 20,000 unemployed persons are at present jostling for 30 vacant positions in the state’s fire service; an indication that unemployment rate still remain high. Speaking to Journalists, the state Head of Service, Sir Okey Offili, said government will look into the disappearance of the forms, adding that those behind the act would be brought to book. http://leadership.ng/news/200813/3000-employment-forms-delta-fire-service-recruitment-disappears |
