CareerRe: Would You Sleep With Your Boss To Secure Your Job? by bani(m): 2:59pm On Nov 29, 2005
well u just have to weigh all the sides as the girl do u feel u'ld get another fast enuff, if not shag ur boss...for the guy..well most of we guys are naturally hotblooded, so it might not really be 'the keeping the job yarn' dat would make us do it. its just a 'dog thing'.
and for the boss, it might actually be the staff that sexually harasses the boss, i once had a receptionist like that and i fell but thank God i got out of her trap. wink
BusinessRe: More Attractive Names for Products Made in Nigeria by bani(m): 9:45am On Nov 29, 2005
alheiri dat was harsh cheesy
but anyway i bear your sentiments. in nigeria i feel the educated yorubas alot for keeping to their tradition(though they could be rude in an official setting or hanging out with someone from another tribe). unlike my ibo brothers u get a little bit of education and u now feel the ibo language is bush.... angry

PoliticsRe: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by bani(m): 9:26am On Nov 29, 2005
continued.....
i would have expected that with orji's wealth and 'business experience' abia state state would have been a boisterous business state by now.
i have to give it to orji though for his ability to unite the muslims and christains, and also for his transparency in declaring his assets and govt expenditure (certain issues taint this like the issue of grants which werent implemented).
another grouse i have against him is his ability to generate issues with individuals, right now we need someone who is cool headed to run this country, we want to turn this country around but anyone who has to do it cannot just enforce plans to do it, cos certain concessions have to b granted to some 'individuals' its going to be a gradual process. knowing orji for his attitude he would want to get his way in all issues which could lead to ethnic or sectranal problems.
well thats my whole view...
bottom line im not really comfortable with orji's candidature
PoliticsRe: Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, for President? by bani(m): 9:19am On Nov 29, 2005
right you all have your points on orji uzo but i have to advice you to do an on the spot analysis before u make comments.
im from abia state, i decided to pay a visit to aba which i havent done in years. and my brother its not an experience i would wish someone who has lived ina civilized environment (even lagos standards).
i didnt see a a straight stretch of good road, the main road entering aba from owerri/umuahia, is a complete write off, i went with a friends car, we had to look for detours cos the road wasnt motorable, the same is the axis from portharcourt. within the metropolis in aba there isnt a good road i can pin to orji's govt. (but i would commend him on some of the roads in umuahia which seem to be his main concentration).
and the issue of taxation in aba which obviously the govt is involved in is horrible. my friend who just built a house was told to pay sanitaion, housing, gate building, borehole sinking...taxes, we decided to take the case up, and we were shown 24 different taxes we are meant to pay(i would pay if there were returns on them). my dad who hardly stays in his house in an interior village was told to pay tax on his house, the light in the village was community effort so was the grading (not tarring) of the roads.
the filth on aba roads in comparism with lagos state, makes lagos a 'hospital'.
...let me break it here..
BusinessRe: Your Bank Might Be Defrauding You? by bani(m): 11:21am On Nov 28, 2005
seun and what makes u feel the management is not aware. i went to STB branch in owerri, i had a problem with a staff who refused to attend to me cos i rebuked him for being rude to an elderly person. i took the issue up withthe floor manager cos i was told the branch manager was not on seat. and the f.m tells me he would look into it that he is busy. and went back to his table, while i who wanted to conduct my business was to embarassed cos i had expected the f.m to follow me back to the cashier and rebuke him. i had to walk out of the bank
buti closed my account the next day
BusinessRe: What Business Can I Start With 4,000 Naira? by bani(m): 11:02am On Nov 28, 2005
u have to first tell us what kind of skill u have. cos thats another angle. like when i was in school bein gthe ibo boy i was i had to look for how to make neds meet. the generator of the school went down and i went into selling candles. i boiught a dozen pack at first selling one for N10 a pack was 35 and it was 8 in a pack
so what im basically saying is that you have to identify your skill and look out for opportunities that abound
if your good at barbing buy a clipper for N1,800 (not fake wahl oh!!) and but your other tools. u dont have to start with a shop u could start giving home service , its even profitable in the long run. and build up your clientele
if you good in a particular course in school charge those who dont want to study to help them. i was good at Engineering Drawing and i made cool money from doing assignments for people. i did it till my 3rd year (when i tried to write someones exam i had a rough experience..so dont try that, stick to assignments)
well the basic lowdown is just identify your talent and market it
PoliticsRe: Bayelsa State Governor Escapes from London, UK (Now in Nigeria!) by bani(m): 10:36am On Nov 28, 2005
A lot has been said abt DSP's sudden appearance in naija. but we seem to ignore an certain angle. how come he arrived some days to his impeachment, and knowing the knack of the british security and policing, also a publication in one od the dailies about the british govt accusing Obj that his anti fraud crusade is all witchunting!!!
lets face a fact it would be hard for most of out potbellied governors to actually carry out the escape which DSP is being said to have done. if it wre a young hussler i would have said 'yes'. and why the sudden lukewarm attitude of the british govt to such an offence . one would have expected threats and so on and also a request to the Nigerian Govt to extradiate him.
so cant it be inferred that the bitish govt is involved in this whole saga?
and heres a letter from Obj to blair (thisday online) 28th nov 2005 http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=34465

Alamieyeseigha: Obasanjo Writes Blair, Expresses Disappointment
Court okays ICPC probe of N1.7bn scam
By Kunle Akogun and Lilian Okenwa in Abuja, 11.28.2005

President Olusegun Ob-asanjo has written British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair, expres-sing the disappointment of his government over the manner Bayelsa State Governor, Chief DSP Ala-mieyeseigha, escaped from London where he was standing trial on charges of money laundering.
Also, a Federal High Court in Abuja has endorsed the appointment of a private counsel to investigate the N1.7 billion contract scam allegation leveled against the governor.
According to presidency sources, in the letter, dated November 23, 2005, Obas-anjo said he was baffled that the UK authorities, noted for thoroughness and effectiveness, could allow a man standing trial for such charges to beat the security network in their country.
Apparently angered by the cynical manner in which the issue was treated by UK authorities, Obasanjo expre-ssed surprise that there was no official communication with the Nige-rian government until the High Commission was contacted.
Obasanjo said that in view of the on-going global war against terrorism, it is unbelievable that the Governor could escape from London the way he did without any detection: "You can therefore understand why we cannot understand this development given the global reputation of British security for thoroughness, efficiency and effectiveness.

TravelRe: Bellview Airplane Crashes After Taking Off From Lagos by bani(m): 9:57am On Nov 28, 2005
I have being following the whole story on the bellview, and i just heard the recent announcement by the Federal Govt, offering a sum of money for any information on the black box. And i really started feeling like a 'mooron' on behalf of we the 'lower nigerians'. attached is a report from the Daily independent on the issue of the black box, that was after the crash and we didnt get any apology or denial from him when the federal Govt said the black box ha not been found.
i listened to a chat by some aviation experts on AIT, and they said the recovery of a black box from a crash site should not be to hard and with the help of the manufactuers of the plane 'cos they said they have trackers' , one wonders why it has not been found till date. and we hear the box is indestructable.
so i ask again what is 'SOMEONE or should i say SOME PEOPLE' trying to hide.
and the whole issue of some Govt official 'narrowly' missing the flight. and is it also coincidental that it was mostly some 'officials' in support of Obj's 3rd term bid that were on dat plane, and some dat have'sympathetic wannabe president(s)' as friends had last minute change of plans.
i wonder if theres a connection we are missing

ComputersRe: Why Are There So Many Nigerians Scammers Online? by bani(m): 9:45pm On Nov 10, 2005
well jakumo i have to tell you that it isnt mainly the ppl from the southeast that are into scamming, its just that they are loud mouthed about it and quite arrogant. i was raised the hood of festac and out of a mixture of youths in nigeria 75% of them are into scam an the 2 tribes west and southeast are ewll represented with a sprinkle of northners and lots of southwest which you might mistake for sotheasterners.
do an extensive research...ask people like MKO (God rest his soul) , fernanadez etc
BusinessRe: Setting Up a Cyber-cafe: What Does It Take? by bani(m): 4:09pm On Nov 08, 2005
it doesnt take only money to run a cafe. it takes guts. let me give you a scenario.
your modem of of 350,000 packs up and almost at the same moment your generator packs up and you are still reeling from the effect of 2 computers that packed up when they fell during a police and customer scuffle, and your administrator just made away with about 6 of your hard disk, and for the period you are down you expect that your 'isp' should have known and started waiving your down time, but they tell you you didnt notify them so your bill is still running.
what would you do?
ComputersRe: Creating Wireless Internet Hotspots by bani(op): 12:34am On Oct 27, 2005
A BRIEF grin OVERVIEW
A hotspot is any public area where computers that have been fitted with wireless network technology can gain access to the Internet. The computer accomplishes this by contacting a nearby wireless network with its internal NIC (Network Interface Card). The NIC seeks out the radio waves generated by wireless networks. When it detects a signal strong enough, it asks permission to log on to the network. Though this access is often free, other times the wireless network requires registration and a small fee before it will grant the computer access.

Many cafés now feature a wireless network environment or hotspot, so that customers can sit leisurely, sip coffee and work on their laptops with full Internet access. Establishments that offer hotspots are referred to as being wired, somewhat of a misnomer since the technology is wireless.

A network that generates a hotspot basically consists of a wireless router and modem. The RF, or radio frequency, waves used by a wireless network extend in all directions from the central location of these devices, before finally weakening through interference and lack of signal strength. If a computer is inside the 'shroud' of RF waves, it will have the capability to connect to the network. This area is the hotspot. As the computer moves further away from the router and modem devices, the connection will become weaker and slower. The quality of the connection deteriorates rapidly at the boundary. The computer will lose access completely if it leaves the hotspot.

A hotspot might not be specifically generated for public use. All wireless networks generate RF waves and hotspots. A hotspot can be available outside of a commercial building, for example. In this case, the wireless network is not specifically set up to service public clients, so access will be free. The user is more or less hitchhiking to the Internet. However, a firewall installed in the router may prevent unauthorized access of the hotspot by requesting a username and password before granting access to the Internet.

now u guys are going to make me start saying in those good ol' days
ComputersRe: Creating Wireless Internet Hotspots by bani(op): 8:22pm On Oct 26, 2005
well the first step is sensitizing people on it. the funny thing is most IT managers of companies ive met dont really know what its all about. so you can just imagine. if u know how to configure an acess point using any wireless make and setting up any wifi enabled system then ure set to go. u could try linksys for a smaller area
ComputersRe: Cyber-cafe Operators in Festac Having Problems With Police (419) by bani(op): 8:18pm On Oct 26, 2005
on the issue of getting their tag numbers, they dont wear unifornms, the just wear their police colored jackets so you dont get to identify them. the issue of a union has been raised on several occassions, but some big spending cafes see it as nothing to settle this police men right from the area command so if u whos running on a tight budget tries to bring up such an issue, they are not willing to give you an ear. its like as if its a cankerworm which has eaten into the police in festac. of recent a fresh batch of officers where brought in to the command and it didnt take them any time to get into the swing of it. some cafe operators with clout say they have reported the issuem, so for it to continue unabated with some higher authorities aware of it, was does that tell you....
ComputersRe: Cyber-cafe Operators in Festac Having Problems With Police (419) by bani(op): 5:32pm On Oct 25, 2005
well presently efcc is in festac, they have been making some raids . but still yet the activities of the policemen continue. right now a '419' they picked up is back her and boasting about it. the effc has been in festac for a week we have notheard about any policeman being picked up for corruption, neither have they stopped their activities. what does that tell you.
ComputersRe: Cyber-cafe Operators in Festac Having Problems With Police (419) by bani(op): 4:51pm On Oct 25, 2005
well i could give u a list of names, though some could be alias. there are about 5 squads which go to cafes. there a squad with a leader called inspector ekeh, theres another with a guy named badmus, theres another squad with a guy named 'kogi/pastor'. The list is endless. ive been to the area commander on an occasion to report and he said he doesnt order such activities then who does?
ive refused to settle any of the squads which i 'hear' some cafes do and right now my cafes are called 'police station' by most customers. i hope my brief could help someone out in helping us.
ComputersCreating Wireless Internet Hotspots by bani(op): 11:03am On Oct 25, 2005
why are most public place owners scared of creating hotspots in Nigeria? ive sent so many proposals to most fast food eateries and public areas and i keep getting the same reply huh "WE ARE NOT REALLY READY FOR THIS NOW". Im really surprised!!! This could take Nigeria higher on the IT scale.
ComputersCyber-cafe Operators in Festac Having Problems With Police (419) by bani(op): 10:52am On Oct 25, 2005
I run an IT Consult firm with two cyber-cafes. Well, it's based in Festac and I'm really having a hectic time with the Festac police, with their consistent raids and demands for protection money.

Yes quite right Festac is the 419 haven, but with their constant harassment the normal browsers are scared of coming into the cafes. We the cafe operators are harassed. If the '419' guys they are apprehending are actually prosecuted their actions are laudable, but rather they arrest them just to collect money from them.

I had a case with a customer who was into '419' for excessive spamming since my ISP had mailed me his email account details, and do you know the guy had the guts to call the police because he settles them regularly and they actually arrested me for trying to throw the guy out of the cafe. How pathetic can things be. We cafe operators really need help in Festac.
