One notorious Nwabanni fellow was arrested with dozen or more slaves on his way from Anambra to Calabar to supply slaves to a British trading company operating in Brazil.

The British colonial officer detained Nwabanni and set the slaves in his possession free. But Nwabanni will petition the Colonial govt and have his "property" returned to him after providing a liscence to supply slaves to a Rothschild plantation company in Brazil.

You must understand that it was only as recent as 1951 that the British officially banned slavery in Ibo land.

The Ibo elite who are exclusively drawn from the freeborn and ruling class had little or no regard for the newly emancipated slaves. It was at this point in history that the discriminatory caste system became more rigidly enforced so as to prevent the now emancipated slaves from contesting and wining elective positions.

The sufferings of the majority during the war that occured a mere 15ys after the abolition of slavery in iboland , did not register in the consciousness of the Ibo elite aka freeborn who were more ready to weaponize the mass suffering of their people for propaganda points.
