The rivalry between Barcelona have been waging
on for as long as anybody can remember and the
two teams and their fans rarely see eye to eye. But
that doesn’t mean business hasn’t been done
between the two before.

After winning Valencia 7-0 in the first leg of the
Copa del Rey semi-final the Catalan team are very
certain of progression into the finals and according
to Spanish paper AS, they are preparing to send a
request to Real Madrid to use the Bernabeu for the
finals of the competition.
But many believe that request is just a formality as
Madrid are very certain to turn it down.

The Spanish Federation are set to sit with the two
teams that qualify and discuss possible venues.
With the Bernabeu a very unlikely destination if
Barcelona make it through, the other options are
going to be Vicente Calderón and Mestalla.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher

Luis Suárez and Lionel Messi
make history at Camp Nou

Seconds after the final whistle in FC
Barcelona’s remarkable 7–0 rout over
Valencia on Wednesday night, one big question
remained — Who would get the game ball?

Would it be Luis Suárez or Lionel Messi?

Suárez, after all, had just completed his first four-
goal game since joining FC Barcelona — giving him a
team-leading 35 goals in 33 games this year across all
competitions — and Messi had bagged his 29th
career hat trick, his third in the Copa del Rey.

Not surprisingly, a goal glut such as this coming from
two players in the same game is about as common as
a total lunar eclipse.

Here are the only precedents:

23 March 1924 — FC Barcelona 8–1 Zaragoza
Stadium :
In the first leg of the preliminary round of
the Copa del Rey in Les Corts, Paulino Alcántara and
Josep Samitier scored three goals each and Sagi
Barba added a double.

11 September 1949 — FC Barcelona 10–1
Gimnàstic Tarragona :
Five goals from Navarro II, a
Caesar hat-trick plus goals from Marcos Aurelio and
Canal led the rout in Week Two of league play in the
1949/50 season at Les Corts.

23 September 1956 — FC Barcelona 7–3 Atlético
Madrid :
In Week Three of league play in 1956/57,
Barça got four goals from Luis Suárez (no, not the
same one) and three from Justo Tejada.

Ask yourself, how many trophies did those high stats fetch G. Krychiowak last season.. He had only The Europa for all his efforts. We both know how it ended for S. Busquets and his elite team.

The thing with people like you and what you see against S. Busquets' game is that, you still retain that Brutish, reckless, 'knack-am-down' picture of DMs such as G. Gatusso, C. Makelele's mould et al. Those were greats of the old order. The game has since changed. Look at J.O Mikel; how many tackles does he make in every other game, yet he bosses the midfield. Or even someone like T. Kroos... Bieng a DM goes beyond stiffling the opposition, hacking down players and generally known for rough play; S. Busquets has redefined that role. A DM should be decent, intelligent and a key partaker in moving the ball around. In the near future, the role will be likened to an alternate CM, and S. Busquets would be the reference point.

Why do you see P. Guardiola use soft but intelligent players like P. Lahm in the midddle as a holder of the ball? Even T. Alcantara has played in that position.
Explaining all these 2 someone like airmark is like pouring water in2 a basket; waste of time. Tell him busquets is d best dm in d game 2day he'll start hyperventilating. Tell him xavi is d greatest cm ever and he won't stop Having a migraine

Luis Suárez praises 'complete' victory

FC Barcelona couldn’t have done it any better,
beating Valencia 7–0 in the first leg of the Copa del
Rey semi-finals at Camp Nou. The star of the night
was Luis Suárez, author of four goals on the night —
giving him a total of 33 goals in the 36 games he has
played.
"It was one of the most complete games this season.
Everything worked for us," he said after the game.

Suárez acknowledged that the team had not been
playing well early in games as of late, but that
Wednesday was different.

But despite the staggering goal total, Suárez warned
that anything could happen in football.

"It is a rather large advantage but you never know
what might happen. That's football,” he said.

And while Suárez continues to have a spectacular
season, for him, the most important thing is to help
the team win titles. " I just want to help the team,”
he said.

Aleix Vidal and Sergio Busquets also spoke to the
media. Here are the highlights of what they had to
say:

Aleix Vidal

"Sometimes you feel sorry for your opponent, but
we are professionals and we wanted as many goals as
possible. We always look for the best result and we
go for broke."
"It is very difficult for Valencia to turn around the tie
but we can not go into there thinking that everything
is done, it would be a mistake."
"Messi and Luis Suárez amaze us every day. I’ve been
able to enjoy them — and Neymar too — every day
since the day I arrived."

Sergio Busquets

"We played a very good first half. We came off games
where we didn’t start off well but that did not happen
tonight. I think overall we played a very good game."
"When the result is in your favour, everything goes
much better. Everything went our way."

FC Barcelona among the awards once again

FC Barcelona played a
leading role in the 68th
edition of the ‘Great Gala of Sport’ organised by
Catalan sports newspaper ‘Mundo Deportivo’ which
took place on Monday at the Palau de Congressos de
Catalunya in the city of Barcelona.

The Barça captain Andrés Iniesta received an award
after being named ‘Best Sportsman of 2015’, the
midfielder having been an integral part of the squad
that claimed La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the
Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup. “It is
difficult to win and we feel that what we do is what
we have to do. We are excited about the prospect of
keeping on winning,” said the experienced blaugrana.
The squad as a whole were also rewarded with the
prize for ‘Leadership Ability’.

The trio of Messi, Suárez and Neymar were handed
the ‘Excellence in Sport’ award for their 137 goals out
of a total of 180 in the year 2015. The prize was
collected by Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu
who was just one of a large number of FC Barcelona
representatives at the event.

Gerard Piqué extended his collection of personal
awards with the prize in the ‘Extraordinary Trophy’
category. “The feeling of losing we don’t like, not on a
personal nor collective level. At time, even if you are
the best, you can’t win, but we hope to keep trying.”
The gala had a very special guest in Ronaldinho- the
former blaugrana idol was presented with the
‘Sporting Trajectory’ award. The Brazilian spent fives
seasons with Barça, winning two league titles, the
Champions League and two Spanish Super Cups.

Andrés Iniesta and Leo Messi in ninth Copa del Rey semi-final

The Copa del Rey has been all about FC Barcelona in
recent years, and the facts are there to prove it. The
team has made it as at least as far as the semi-finals
in all but one of the last ten editions, and Andrés
Iniesta and Leo Messi have been there to see it
happen every time

That’s a humungous eight cup semi-final appearances
in nine years for the Barça duo, and more than 2,000
minutes of football between them. The only game in
which neither appeared was the second leg at
Almeria in the 2010/11 season. But that was
something of a formality after Barça had already won
the first leg 5-0, so they were both rested.

Barça have gone on to appear in five of the last nine
finals, and have won the trophy three times.

Semi-final goals

Iniesta scored in the first leg of last season’s semi-
final against Villarreal, while Messi has scored in
seven of the different encounters: 2006/07 (Getafe),
2008/09 (Mallorca), 2010/11 (Almería), 2013/14 (Real
Sociedad) and 2014/15 (Villarreal).

The most famous of those was probably the one
against Getafe at the Camp Nou. That was the almost
exact replica of Diego Maradona’s goal against
England at the 1986 World Cup, and which is often
hailed as the greatest goal ever. Here’s a video
reminder of one of the goals that confirmed the
name of Messi among the all-time elite of world
football.
