Nigeria will not go for a Su aircraft. There has been several talks about the Migs.

American aircrafts version sold to us will be downgraded. British and French aircrafts are expensive. The Chinese and Russians to the help. We have a very good cooperation with India but it all boils down to how ready the Tejas is and others.
Everybody downgrades the exports of aircraft's. Exports version are produced on it own.

lol, reminds of this movie. olumpus has fallen.
Those two f16s tried intercepting that laser guided aircraft in the American airspace, only to be bulldozed by it and beaten blue-black by that single aircraft (forgotten its name, and would like to know).
Only for the USA airforce to send in another f16 which this time around, maintained a clear distance and was firing missiles from the back of the aircraft.
The missiles were shielded by the aircraft concurrently, whilst unleashing mayhem to the citizens, guards and security of the white house.
When it's shield Armour must have been exhausted, the one missile from f16 luckily hit it and it dissembled the Almighty aircraft..
So these things happen real life? shocked..
The aircraft in question is something like this(don't know whether it's it)

Now if f16 didn't hold its own against this, how will f7 fare cheesy?
Mehn we need to upgrade big time
That movie was badass even if it wasn't realistic. Saw it more than 10 times.

For those knocking the upgrade of the jaguar and mig-21s, I would rather have the jaguar jet dropping payloads on bhts basis in chad, niger and nigeria. Than the Alpha jet dropping only 1000lbs per sortie.

Our leaders are so selfish, that even if angels came down from heaven and told them to re equip, they would find an excuse not to. So we are not going to get any 4fh generation fighters any time soon.

Iran is in the market for top Russian and Chinese fighters, but they are still upgrading there old su-22 bombers, to use in Syria for the time being.
Uncontested air power is our key to winning this war. But our air strikes, gat to be real air strikes, not pin pricks.
It would cost a fortune to bring back the Jaguar Nemesis wrote something about that . Alternatively we could go for some used jets like the Mig 29 or the Tornado that UK just retired it would be good fit till we get a modern 4+ aircraft.

I remember several years ago stating that a nation the size, complexity and importance of Nigeria would require at least a million man military given the prospective threath level in Africa. Somone, not unreasonabley, replied, "what are we going to feed them, Sand?" And I replied that we had better feed them Sand because we are going to need a military that large.
I fear even w/ 1m it wouldn't change much we need to spend much more in equipping our armed force. More APC, MRAPS, TANKS, AIRCRAFTS, HELI'S. More men w/o an increase in equipment would be a waste money. Besides there's a weakness on the side of the government to prosecute those behind the recent killings.

Russia admits defeat on its 'stealth' F-35 killer by canceling mass production on the Su-57 fighter jet

The Su-57, a plane meant to function as a killer of US F-35 and F-22 stealth jets with an innovative array of radars, saw a brief period of combat over Syria, but the deployment only lasted days and didn't pit the jet against any threats befitting a world class fighter.Russia announced earlier this month that the Su-57, its proposed entry into the world of fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft, will not see mass production.

“The plane has proven to be very good, including in Syria, where it confirmed its performance and combat capabilities,” Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov said on Russian TV on July 2, as The Diplomat reports.

But despite Russia's non-stop praise for the plane and dubious claims about its abilities, Borisov ultimately said, "The Su-57 is considered to be one of the best aircrafts produced in the world. Consequently, it does not make sense to speed up work on mass-producing the fifth-generation aircraft.”

Justin Bronk, a combat aviation expert at the Royal United Services Institute, told Business Insider that Borisov's comments "could be charitably described as an unreasonably optimistic reason why they stopped production."

Basically, Borisov said the plane is so much better than everything out there, they don't need to build it, which Bronk finds unlikely.

Instead, Russia will stick to what it's good at with upgraded fourth generation aircraft in service instead of the Su-57, which originally was meant to replace the older fighters.

The Su-57, a plane meant to function as a killer of US F-35 and F-22 stealth jets with an innovative array of radars, saw a brief period of combat over Syria, but the deployment only lasted days and didn't pit the jet against any threats befitting a world class fighter.

Initially proposed as a joint project with India, the Su-57 hit trouble when neither side could agree on how to split the production and technological development. After 11 years in the program, India withdrew, leaving Russia to go it alone with a weak economy.

Now, India has been discussed as a potential buyer of the F-35 in another blow to Russia's dream of developing its own fifth-gen fighter. link https://www.pulselive.co.ke/bi/politics/russia-admits-defeat-on-its-stealth-f-35-killer-by-canceling-mass-production-on-the-su-57-fighter-jet-id8610995.html
They're not mass producing because of this, the main engines are still being developed and bc of finances.

You suddenly want to act "I Knew", you see that's the part of dishonor on this thread, instead of giving someone his due most including you resort to character assassination for selfish reasons. Point is own up, if I didn't tell you he was in the military you would never have known. I know others here too just for a warning.

Ethiopia is a well known technology hub in Africa. People are already saying they are the next Japan of Africa if they get their acts together.

in the area of AI, aerospace and agricultural engineering they are doing well.

Ethiopia is currently selling T62 battle tanks to the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) and assembling the T72 and T55.

Ethiopia is also upgrading S-75 Surface to Air Missiles SAMs locally.

They have an apc assembly facilities

They make drones too.

This are hi tech stuffs
T55/62 were high tech in 1970 not 2018. We don't have APC Assembly facilities? Drones? They also once said Nigeria would be a world power by the 21st century.

the MiG35 would be great ,even the S350 would/should be considered
All Russian planes are head aches. Ask India. And Nigeria's maintenance history isn't glorious. But they're still the best choice for us.

pls chad and Cameroon both have MIG29 and the south African cheetahs respectively.
so u may reconsider
Cameroon does not have the mig 29 only Chad does and they have ONLY 3. South African cheetahs have been retired since and replaced w/ the gripen. The s300/400 is an over kill. We need something like the Buk system. I'd prefer we spend more money on Capable air superiority fighters like Mig35 or su35.

I quite agree with you.

An not saying we buy a s-300/400 air defense system, we can get get something close to it.

But you guys are forgetting our National security assets like oil installation, military Base etc.

Getting a capable defense system is more strategic than getting submarines, frigates etc.
I totally agree with you.
Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by barineh(m): 12:00pm On Jun 18, 2018
We can all agree our Air defense systems needs upgrading but the S300/s400 is an overkill based on our current threats which is primarily from land based forces/ insurgents . Besides why spend billion on air defense when the rest of our military is a joke. I'd rather we buy long range interceptors for the Air Force than spend billions on S400/300. We are not Egypt we don't have Sponsors like the Saudi's or The US.
