There is a large swamp there which separates one part of the locality from the other part. There was no bridge linking the two parts together. This means that people had to go round a long place before they could connect to the other part. In most cases, there would be a need to take a bike with an average fare of fifty bucks. This actually was a challenge to people living around that area but an entrepreneur saw it as a good business opportunity. He constructed a wooden bridge across the swamp. Each time anybody passes through the wooden bridge he/she will pay twenty bucks. The place is densely populated that there is no time of the day that there is no traffic of people passing on the bridge. People are glad that somebody provided solution and that they even pay less compared to what they pay for a bike to take them round a longer route. You can estimate how much this entrepreneur will be earning per day from the venture. Next time you hear somebody complaining about something, it can actually be a business opportunity for you. If there is no challenge, then there will be no opportunity. Some people saw the challenge in education system; they came up with private schools and institutions. Some identified accommodation problem; they went into real estate. Some identified lack of adequate power supply; they started importing generators.

Another way to identify opportunity is by assessing global trend. The entrepreneur always searches for change, responds to it, and exploits it as an opportunity, says Peter Drucker.

We live in a global community. What is happening in Europe, Asia and America will soon get to your continent and your country.

Let me dwell more on this stage of entrepreneurial process since this is what is lacking among our youth. Business opportunity usually comes first as idea. Therefore, you should learn how to generate ideas. As you begin to generate ideas, many of them may look crazy but it is advisable that you document them. Do not throw away any seemingly bad ideas yet. Keep a journal handy to record your thoughts and ideas as idea can come at any time. The best way to have a good idea is to have lots of ideas, Linus Pauling said. You can get business idea while talking to a child or listening to other people. Your business idea may come by observing the products and services of other companies. You can make a list of things you use every day and think about how you could improve on them. For examples, customers usually seek improvement in term of speed, convenience, personalisation and price. It you notice that any of these is missing, you can create a business around it. Business idea does not necessarily mean that you have to reinvent the wheel. You just need to be creative and innovative. You can do something ordinary in an unusual way.

To identify opportunity, considering your skills and hobbies can be a good starting point. You then consider how you can match these with consumers’ needs and wants.

Possible places one can easily catch business ideas include the following:

Television and Radio programmes
Tourist centres/Amusement parks

Everybody can become a millionaire but you need to learn how to become a millionaire. You cannot become a millionaire by wishful thinking. If wishes were horse, beggars would ride. The great Book in history makes us to understand that many people want to go to the city but they don't know the way to it. The question I want you to ask yourself is that: Those people who are millionaires, do they have two heads? If your answer is no, then it means that you too can become a millionaire.

Look around your neighbourhood or environment and find out what their needs are. If you can meet the need, people will be ready to part with their money. The truth is that everybody has money to spend but they will only spend it on those things that add value to them. Every time you buy something, it is because of the value it adds to you. It is not that you just want to spend the money. In the same vein, people will buy from you because they believe that what you are selling adds value to them. The perceived value of what you offer will determine the price. The higher the value; the higher the price. For example, you cannot compare the price of a bicycle to that of motor vehicle. The price of what you offer can be any amount but the value should justify the price.

Number

Million is a game of number. After you have set the price for what you sell, then it becomes your duty to be able to reach out to as many people as possible. Let’s do some calculation here. For example, if the price of your product is set at $5 and the cost of making the product or providing the service is $3, then your profit will be $2. Therefore, to become a millionaire, you need to sell 500,000 units ($1,000,000/$2). Let’s do some permutation further in the table below:

Is it something you can do in a day, a week, a month or a year? This is one area where your marketing skills will come into play. With the proper mix of the three factors above, everyone can become a millionaire.

In summary, if you want to become a millionaire, do the following:
1.Think about what you can do to benefit your society and place appropriate price on it.
2.Ensure that there is enough market for it and sell to many people as you can

Like someone rightly said, think of somethings you can buy from the north and sell in the south and then vice versa.
For instance you can buy yam, onions, etc from the north and then sell in the south. On your way back to the north you could get things like red palm oil, plantain from the south to sell.

You could also consider processing of catfish for sale. Get to know some catfish farmers, get supplies of fresh catfish from them, prepare the catfish by adding some preservatives (These are readily available), get the catfish dried on fire with a controlled temperature, if you have oven, excellent. When fully dried and allowed to cool, you'll then package them depending on the sizes or weights on a customized sealed transparent nylon bags(readily available also) with your business name and contacts on them.

During the pilot phase, take samples with you and go to supermarkets and some business people around your area to market your products, tell them you can supply them at a discount.
