PoliticsRe: ACN Not A Yoruba Party, Says Ngige by bashr4: 6:33pm On May 04, 2011
its the yorubas that started calling it a yoruba party and thats what is stalling their progress in other regions just like how apga have been tagged and igbo party and CPC northern party , they dont see us going about calling PDP an igbo party because it was founded by the igbos.

Nigerian Citizen Journalism Receives Major Press Freedom Award
Posted: May 4, 2011 - 00:03
By Global information Network (GIN), New York
May 3 (GIN) – On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the Omidyar Network of Redwood City, California, announced the award of nearly $5 million in funding to four media-related groups involved in investigative and citizen journalism in the developing world.

The four groups are: African Media Initiative (Kenya); the SaharaReporters project (Nigeria); Media Development Loan Fund (U.S.), and the Committee to Protect Journalists (Africa programs).

Announcing the grant to Sahara Reporters, an online network of underground and citizen journalists operating inside Nigeria, Omidyar’s Stephen King said: “They put a lens on the Nigerian government by covering corruption, disbursement of oil revenues and graft on a massive scale. (SaharaReporters.com) provides much more [information] than a newspaper or news outlet might. It’s a forum where controversial stories can be aired.”

Sowore Omoyele, founder and publisher of the NY-based Sahara Reporters, described the work of his group as far-reaching. “We had 1,700 reporters on Blackberry alone who volunteered to cover the [recent Nigerian] elections for us," he said. "They took smartphone photos of police repression and election violence.”

“We report events, news and write reports of real time issues. It is our response to the failure – the refusal or lack of will on the part of professional journalists – to report real news to the people … SR is doing well in that regard. We have broken the sound and speed barriers of reporting authentic, evidence-based news.

“Omidyar Network believes a healthy government – one that is responsive to its citizens -- requires a healthy, robust fourth estate.  By focusing additional efforts on fostering investigative and citizen journalism, we believe we will be catalyzing transparency efforts that will positively affect millions of people,” said King, who heads Omidyar’s global government transparency programs.

To date, Omidyar Network has committed more than $400 million to for-profit companies and nonprofit organizations that foster economic advancement and encourage individual participation in the areas of microfinance, entrepreneurship, property rights, government transparency, consumer Internet and mobile. Musiwa,:
are you nigerian?    i dont think so. when a state does not have a university in nigeria, student of that state  are deprived of university education. They can only be considered as catchment state. which gave raise to MEND, because the Ijaws were from bayelsa state. there was no university in bayelsa state. And the bulk of federal universities comes from the host state. The ijaws could not go to schools. And it gave raise to MEND.

This is the same in Ondo state, what it means is that Children of ondo, ogun and delta state can not enjoy same service in law, business, art, medicine, education like student in ondo state except they pay for it. so children from poor home from this 3 state with interest in that field will find it hard to get into universities except they pay through their nose.

This is why MEND happened because most of the ijaw children could not get into universities, because there is discrimination law put in place by northerners call catchment and federal characters. this laws discriminate again children based on state of origin.
all states have a state university , maybe you have not heard of bayelsa state university, GEJ have already released the funds for the new federal universities one in each region so your prayers have been answered.

You mean that over 100,000 students of the schools should not enjoy the dividends of democracy? You talk as someone who dont have the benefit, or gains of a good education, am sure you wont understand.
and what do you call dividends of democracy? sharing money or making empty promises on the media? the government can not do everything ,right now enugu state govt is doing exactly what the role of the govt should be and thats providing basic amenities and securtiy and enabling a good enviroment for investments which will lead to more job creation. those universities have managements and alumni if there anything they need they can submit their demands to govt or other developmental bodies and follow it up.
PoliticsRe: Tribalistic And Falseful Saharareporter And 234next? by bashr4: 2:08pm On Apr 30, 2011
sahara reporters and next are out to rubbish accomplished people not just from the igbo tribe their recent attack on Dora Akunyeli and peter obi is really sad , they need to be called to order. using the media to pull people down is a very silly and childish just like the way they tried to  tarnished the image of Dr Ekwunife. they dont confirm their news before they post it and by the time they get the corrcet news the damage have already been done.
PoliticsRe: Orji Wins Abia State by bashr4: 3:25am On Apr 30, 2011

S-East, S-South group laments killings in North

On April 28, 2011 · · In News

BY EMMA NNADOZIE

The South-East, South-South Professionals, SESSP, a development and advocacy group, has bemoaned the loss of innocent lives in the post-election violence in some parts of north while extolling President Goodluck Jonathan and Professor Attahiru Jega, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Chairman, “for restoring the confidence of Nigerians in the democratic process by ensuring the conduct of the 2011 general elections was free and fair.”

The group, however described Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidential Candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change,CPC, as a bad loser.

The group, in a statement in Lagos by its President, Emeka Ugwu-Oju and the Coordinator, Media Directorate, Nick Idoko, expressed sadness that nothing was done to provide security to safeguard the lives of the youth corps members and other defenceless citizens and blamed CPC and its principal, Muhammadu Buhari, whom it accused of inciting his followers.

It called for “effective steps to be taken by all concerned stakeholders to support the integrity of the unfolding democratic process in Nigeria.

According to the group, such support included preventing further violence and upholding citizens’ rights to democratic public expression, peaceful public assembly, transparent and fair elections.

SESSP said: “It is encouraging and praiseworthy that leading civil society organizations, political figures, analysts and media in Nigeria and international organizations such as the European Union, EU, foreign and local observers, have taken important and positive steps in calling for this, while citizens and right organizations are working to re-assert a public space free from all forms of violence.

“We also recognize and appreciate the important and difficult role of the Nigeria police in maintaining public security. We commend respect and support to the citzens’ legitimate right to peaceful assembly, and the restraint shown by the police at several points during the tragic riots.

Protection of human security, prevention of violence both to property and to people, and support for peaceful and active engagement by citizens and responsible steps by all stakeholders to address the current situation are non-negotiable priorities”, Ugwu-Oju reiterated.”

They described the riots as a throw-back to the cave wars of primitive societies and urged President Goodluck Jonathan to take decisive action and thoroughly investigate and unravel the immediate and remote circumstances surrounding the uprising and ensure that all actors implicated in the inhuman acts face the full wrath of the law.

Rather than wasting time with innefective threads, y dont u start by choosing credible leaders.
The Orjis, Obis and Ohakims etc should be replaced.
Can you believe that Obi has supporters who think he is performing here on NL ?

The truth is hard to swallow but u lack credible leadership.
obi will be gone in a year , orji have already won the best we can do is to keep trying our best as a people and also pressure the govt to do their duty to move abia state forward, as for ohakim lets wait till they announce the final result.

we have always been blessed , we already have commercial cities, onitsha ,aba ,nnewi portharcourt plus our distributors and traders spread accross nigeria and africa especially high populated areas like lagos and kano  all we need is to start thinking of manufacturing every single thing we import in nigeria , anambra and abia are proof that we have the brains to do anything, also ebonyi should become our agricultural centre , they have the land mass and soil and the state really needs investments. the rest is just to clean up aba and onitsha , proper city planing and beautification ,railroad ,honestly we never really needed federal government we are just distracted by nigerian politics.

adconline:

Enugu seems beautiful.
But is it the whole state that has good roads?

Good question. The rest of the state does not have good road network like Enugu city.  Unlike in Anambra where Awka road network pales in comparison with Enugu Metropolis road network, but Anambra road network connecting towns and cities is superior to Enugu's. I would hope that Sullivan should focus more attention to urban and rural road networks connecting towns and cities in Enugu in his 2nd term.
when last did you visit enugu anambra might have the best road network but enugu is getting there at a fast pace and judging by how slow peter obi is enugu will soon over take anambra in terms of good quality road network.

remember anambra got there cause most roads in anambra towns were built by individuals.
