That will not work abeg. People who buy luxury vehicles must pay more. It doesn't make much sense if I buy small 2002 Corolla and you want me me to pay same tax with someone that buys 2014 Landcriuser SUV.

To put your suggestion in proper perspectives, in the current regime the 2002 corolla may be having a total cost of clearing of about 400k while the Landcriuser may be like 2m or more. So you can see advocating they pay same fee will not be fair on folks buying smaller cars.

People are calling for luxury tax to make rich folks pay more, but you are inadvertently requesting for them to pay less.

What we just need is to reduce the complexity of clearing goods at the port and make the process very simple and open through the use of technology.

We also need to expand the capacity of our ports and reduce the over concentration on Lagos ports. Other ports need to be made viable.

In Benin here that's how it used to be in the past, The higher of the year of the car the higher money you pay in clearing it and mind you that gives the Benin custom access to rip the buyers.

They just give you price and nothing you can do, Some will charge you 700k cfa and pay like 350k to govt and pocket the rest..

But when Govt change and maintain same price for all cars so it block the free access of taking advantage of the buyers...

Wisdom makes one to know what to do at the right time, the policy is a good one but the timing is wrong. Nigerians are already in a harsh economy, why making things more difficult at this time.

Even before this administration, 70-80% of Nigerians cannot afford a brand new car, and right now alot of people have parked their cars trying to survive this harsh administration.

The president should look for better policies that will reduce hardship for the masses.

Lagos Port Complex and Tin Can Island Port in Lagos.

Calabar Port, Delta Port, Rivers Port and Onne Port..

I think what the Govt should do is to make the duty a fix price of maybe between 200k to 500k for clearing of cars....

In Benin clearing of cars from Parc to our border is the same price no matter the year of the said car.

We have enough seaports in Nigeria and Benin Republic have one one seaport, We have enough lands to turn in parcs Alot of Federal Govt lands along Badagry road, Also Lagos Abeokuta Exp road and also Lagos Ibadan Exp road. I also believe we have so many lands that can be turn to local parcs and we will be able to be selling like they do here in Cotonou.. I can also started buying cars and shipping them to Lagos and started selling in Nigeria all the Govt need do is reduce the duties of cars.....


Like in Benin, Cars from 1900 to to 2100 we clear them same price.. So if it's same in Nigeria then we are good to go...
