Clearly Elon has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to cash out after an unsustainable bubble run which must pop - easy, find an angle to do so under cover of tax argument. Elon was not even worth $30bln at the start of 2020.

So here's the Maths - the number of shares he sold were worth $2.5bln at start of 2020 are now worth $30bln. Clear out $30bln, pay $11bln tax and he has $19bln cash from something that was worth $2.5bln pre-tax and will eventually come down toward reality.

There is no CEO that can dump $30bln of shares in a company he directs in one go without Shareholders losing faith that he believes the company is way overvalued (and by turn, their holdings are way overvalued). That will cause a run on the company, and with the leveraged positions on that company, the share price would collapse like a pack of cards.

Elon found a way to do so under disguise of tax argument. That's what the sharp guys should be looking at, not focussing on the tax argument which is a distraction he created in order to do so. The point he was trying to make is he can't pay tax until he sells shares, which he did.

Warren and Bernie's point is still a point worth debating ie how Govt can reflect Capital Gains without disposal of Shares. Capital Gains that won't be achieved without Fed pumping money into propping up Share-prices (Ben Bernanke recapitalising banks to allow them money to buy other companies, thus increasing their value, Obama trillion dollar bailout, Trump $2.2 trln rescue package, lending money to them at zero interest rates etc). Tesla is the poster boy for increases in valuation caused solely by increase in money supply brought about by these Govt interventions, not because of their performance in selling cars.
