omohayek: While I respect the Ooni's role as the paramount Oba of the Yoruba people, I think he should be more circumspect about making such announcements in the future, as economics is clearly not his strong suite. There is nothing wrong with liking imports, and the whole reason for exporting anything is to be able to afford imports in the first place. Taken to its logical conclusion, restriction of imports leads either to mercantilism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercantilism#Criticisms or autarkyhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autarky, neither of which has ever been shown to lead to a high standard of living (ask the North Koreans).
Nigeria's problem is not that people like foreign goods, but that the only means they have for buying said goods is by exporting unrefined crude oil, a commodity which has never been more readily available than it is today, and with huge amounts more set to come on the international market in the next few years. China took the macatilist route, dats why they rose so fast |

GudluckIBB: Let subsidy go. The reason Nigerians protested against GEJ's removal was becos it was laced with corruption and the leakages were still there. Don't forget that corruption runs in GEJ's vein and there's nothing he would have done that won't have corruption in it. see foolishness. GEJ wanted to stop something that was laced with corruption as u said and that becomes a problem?? are u not sopposed to be celebrating?? |

Iroh88: Hello bbc, here's your answer.
Nigerians would have been worried if:
1. The protests started under Jonathan's regime. Under his regime, members of the separatist movement were rounded up and jailed without trial for just having a meeting but no one rose in protest of condemnation of those actions.
2. They didn't say they'd only back down when one of their sons become a president of the Zoo.
3. They had demanded for their own country at the recently convened National Conference.
4. Their brothers and sisters didn't hold elective and "appointive" positions in the Zoo.
5. They didn't participate in the last general elections.
6. They didn't show interest in recently held elections in the Zoo. (#Bayelsa, #Kogi)
7. They had a land mass whose boundary has been agreed upon by their neighbors.
Etc etc etc.
Hope I've answered your question bbc? i guess BBC is a PDP newspaper |

Mynd44: 1. IPOB has not been designated a terrorist/militant group yet so thats what he is called. That does not mean he is not thought to have committed treason in the process of being an activist 2. *yawns* 3. Did the report mention that? Funny thing is that Nnamdi Kanu is a British citizen and theu have not said anything about his incarceration. Does that not tell you the British government in unlooking and not even interested in getting involved? Lol, we are analysing the content of the news not ur personal feelings and wishes |

Earthkumy: In our series of letters from African journalists, Mannir Dan Ali looks at the resurgence of a secessionist movement that supports the creation of a breakaway state of Biafra in Nigeria. The last few weeks have seen thousands of young people trooping to the streets of southern Nigeria to protest about the continued detention of a leading Biafra activist, Nnamdi Kanu. Both new and old media are full of views and reports on the renewed agitation for the short- lived Biafran republic. If it is not the report of the latest city to host the noisy protest by the mainly ethnic Igbo young men under the banner of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), it may be some hot exchanges on social media about the different interpretation of the event. The Nigerian military's warning of dire consequences for anyone who tries to carry out what they refer to as treasonable acts, has also been getting attention. Many Nigerians, with the deadly Boko Haram insurgency in their minds, are trying to understand what is going on, asking why now and what does it all mean? The latest protests were triggered by the detention of Mr Kanu, the UK-based leader of the IPOB. He came to Nigeria last month and was arrested by the authorities, accused of treason. Security sources say he was arrested for broadcasting hate speech both on the internet and through a banned London-based radio station called Radio Biafra, which he has been using to promote his call for the creation of a Biafran nation. He has already appeared in court but is still under detention as his trial is yet to get off the ground.
www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-34911465?ocid=socialflow_twitter From the above 1. kanu is an activist not a terrorist 2. the protest is because of kanu's detention not GEJ's loss in the election 3. Kanus trial is being delayed while he is being illegally detained The world knows the truth!!! |

Facts? the fact is that some ppl returned from borno due to boko haram, they were accepted to live in igbo land because they were igbos, if tomorow they say they are from borno, they will vacate and relocate to borno. Akalaka is an igbo name, same with Eze Chime the founder of Onitsha, both lived in benin and later returnd just like boko haram returnees, they were allowed to settle because they are one of us as their name clearly shows, if they say they are not they should go back to benin and leave our lands |

Why didn't Nnamdi tow the path of seeking for referendum and dialogue instead of instigating violence among the gullible ones. Biafra is a delusion and by the time the federal government is done dealing with Nnamdi KANU for treasonable felony he will understand that everybody is trapped in the zoo and there is no going back. u are making a big mistake, Biafra is not all about Kanu or any other individual for that matter.
