slimmy05: You have a nice GPA, but why not narrow down your search to Masters Programme? Whats your Nigerian CGPA?
5.5/7
University of Ibadan

Problem is that in my field many schools don't offer masters. Just phd. Even those that offer masters will tell you point blank that they only fund phd students.

But a few offer master courses with funding so I'm trying those ones

zeezahbee: So....
Gre 310
GPA 3.3/4 (WES unofficial igpa )

I hope this is OK. These science based courses can be very funny. I think I'll apply to a wide range of schools too maybe that will help.

Naplex is suspended for now. And some of my friends were going to spend money to buy books (expensive) and ship it to naija. The exam can't even be written in naija sef. O pari. Looool

zeezahbee: ok, ya my senior lol. Mine was sagamu at the teaching hospital.
Before nko, yes I used WES
I just read online I have to repeat internship if after passing naplex and Fpgee if i want to practice with B.pharm.

And different states have different licensure bodies that can act independently

Na wa ooooooo. Lol

juntod: Pls explain to him. PhD is more like a job offer. The US Government is even working on passing a bill that allows PhD students to be classified as H1B visa holders. I believe he has accepted but wouldn't come clean.
Thanks for the info you gave earlier.

zeezahbee: NAPLEX : north america pharmacist licensure examination
FPGEE :the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalence Examination.
It doesn't add up my brother. Licensing exams is expensive, will take months/yr if written in nigeria, gosh, I can't go through that stress, most times they tell you to write PCAT to know your weakness and strength, my guy the procedure is too much from one stage to another and spending money with no hope of even getting visa. Its better to go to the US for masters or pharmD and do those things than sitting in naija and writing licensing exam, I don't have that time. I prefer to get my pharmD as age is still on my side and I don't really have much clinical experience here than to sit my ass in naija and waste money and time on licensing exam. I have people that eXam and still failed or are still battling with one stage, our drug(brand name, generic), disease state is different from the US.
Read this links to understand

http://www.pharmacy.umaryland.edu/admissions/pharmd/applying/internationpharms.html
So my decision to transfer for pharm D is to avoid spending excess money and with no 100% of getting licensed but taking the pharm D for 2-3yrs and getting to work straight as a pharm in US
Hmmmm. Very insightful
But is the pharm D funding?

bimbola85: https://www.wes.org/calculator/igpa.asp?

You will have to enter each grade and its units from 100 to 400level, so it's not something you do in haste.
Just didn't that
Got 3.3

I'm guessing that's exactly what's going to be on the actual wes report right?
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by bbdd: 12:27pm On Jun 28, 2014
bimbola85: Bro,that's not how WES do their evaluation. That link is just for mathematical conversion like 3.67/5.0 calculated on 4point scale just by 3.67/5 multiply by 4 which is not how WES do their evaluation.

To have an idea of WES evaluation, go to WES website and make use of their free evaluation tool.

Mine is 3.67/5.0 and after I made use of the evaluation tool on WES website it gives me 3.23/4.0.

Someone even told me it might be higher by the time WES officially evaluated my transcript because his GNS(general studies) as it's called in my school was excluded from his evaluated grades.

Why I believed mine also will be higher is because I have low grades in my GNS and would be glad if it's excluded when WES complete the evaluation.
Please how do I check mine??

zeezahbee: My colleague, pharmacy have GP but we don't get first class,2nd up/low, 3rd in our certificate. I can see you went to UI, PHD is highly competitive, well with a 5.5/7, after evaluation you should have a 3.14/4. What are your plans, know what you want to specialize in and search for schools and you might be lucky to get in for PHD though because naija only offer B.pharm and US offer pharm D they sometimes don't welcome B.pharm for some particular masters courses, depends on the school anyways. Write a list of schools that offer your course of choice, email them all and note the one that are ready to offer you something good. I personally want to go into clinical so am going in for Pharm D so as to have an edge. Good luck
Hi. Thanks for the kind wishes and reassurance.
I'm interested in pharmacy administration. I'm not really a lab person.
I've checked some pharmacy administration/health outcomes department scores. They want >300 Gre and 3. 0 GPA but you know these schools usually admit students that get way more than that.

Can't you just take naplex and Fpgee in the US and practice with your b Pharm?

juntod: Your GPA is the first criteria. What exactly is it on the 4.0 scale? By the way, your GRE is okay. If you are admitted, funding is 90% guaranteed for Phd.
I'm going to use wes
My school uses a 7 point scale(UI) . So i don't know how to translate it.

My gp is 5.5/7 pharmacy undergraduate.
Although this score is not stated on my transcript because we don't use Gp in pharmacy. They just put the breakdown of marks on the transcript that's all

PLEASE I NEED ADVICE

I'm a newbie here but I've been following for a while
Took the Gre today. Was very disappointed with my score
Breakdown V 158 Q 152 total 310 considering the fact that I put in so much effort in my quants I'm bitterly disappointed.

Anyway, the issue now is that I intend to apply to biomedical/pharmaceutical sciences PhD do you think I should retake the test or should I just apply like that?
What are the chances I get funding if i do?

Please advice me on if I should take the Gre again or go ahead and apply.

Thank you and God bless
