PoliticsWhy I Don't Have Mercy For Policemen -robbery Suspect by bcomputer101(op): 6:40am On Aug 02, 2013
A wanted robbery suspect, Abiodun Ogunjobi, aka Abbey
Godogodo, who was said to have been terrorising the
South-West for some time, has been arrested by the
Lagos State Police Command.
According to police authorities, the suspect led the gang
that killed seven people, including the owner of 04 Hotel,
Ajah, Lagos, Olanrewaju Subair, on July 7, 2013.
They also killed two other security guards at a popular
hotel along Apapa Road, Ebute Meta area of the state on
the same day.
The suspect, who was paraded on Thursday, told PUNCH
Metro that he killed many policemen, adding that he had
been into robbery for over 10 years and had built
houses.
Ogunjobi said, "I started robbery in 1996 but in 1999, I
was charged for fighting. I spent about seven years in
prison. My prolonged stay in prison for minor crime of
fighting hardened me and I vowed to pay back the police
for that injustice. After I was released, I went to
Katangowa in Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos to meet my
friend, Odun.
"Odun was an armed robber, so, we started operating
together. We worked with several gangs and I invested
lots of my money in arms buying. I also built five houses
in Ifo, Ilaro, Ikorodu and Ibadan. I usually kill policemen
and take their rifles because policemen have killed
several of my boys and taken most of my rifles from
them.
"I have no regrets for all I have done. I have no advice
for young people, who want to become armed robbers
like me. I have three children from three women. The
police should take all my properties."
PUNCH Metro learnt that the 36-year-old suspect was
arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad at his
home in the Egbeda area of Ibadan, Oyo State, after he
had been monitored for three weeks.
Policemen attached to SARS, said the suspect narrowly
escaped arrest on July 14, 2013 when he and members
of his gang engaged SARS operatives in a shoot-out
along Eko Bridge, Lagos Island, after they killed two
policemen at Ebute-Ero and Ajao Estate respectively.
According to police authorities, the suspect had been
evading arrest because he hardly used the same gang
members twice.
A police source said, "He is the most notorious armed
robber we have had in the South-West in the past 14
years.
"We arrested him 11am on Thursday at his mansion at
the Olowu area of Egbeda LGA Ibadan Oyo State and
recovered two AK47 rifles and 10 loaded AK47
magazines in his house.
"Godogodo has killed many policemen and civilians. His
most recent activity was at Ajah, where he killed the
owner of 04 Hotel and eight others, including two
policemen few weeks ago. He has also led several bank
robberies in Kwara, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Oyo states."
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, described the
suspect as a notorious criminal, who had been on the
radar of the police for some time.
He said the suspect would be given medical treatment
and charged to court.

PoliticsRivers Crisis:pdp Threatens To Suspend Pro-amaechi Senators by bcomputer101(op): 12:49am On Aug 02, 2013
THE Felix Obuah-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in
Rivers State has fired a warning signal to one of its
members , Senator Magnus Abe, as it has indicated its
resolve to sanction him and other top members whom it
accused of anti-party activities.
Abe had been a top supporter of the Rivers State
governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.
The governor of Rivers State is currently serving a
suspension order slammed on him by the Obuah-led PDP
on his reported failure to reverse the sack of the
executive of Obio-Akpor Local Government despite
earlier ultimatum the party had issued to him.
In a swift reaction, Senator Abe said he should never be
seen in the light of a rabble-rouser by any member of the
party based on his efforts towards ensuring the return of
peace and stability to PDP in Rivers State.
Abe’s media consultant, Mr Honour Serakus in a
statement said Obuah’s PDP should appreciate efforts by
the senator for mediating in the crises engulfing PDP in
Rivers instead of misinterpreting his statesman’s roles.
Felix Obuah warned that the party would no longer
tolerate deliberate acts of indiscipline and disrespect to
the party by any of her members in the state no matter
the office or the social status of such erring party
member.
The chairman, in a statement issued by his Special
Adviser (Media), Jerry Needam, said the decision was
taken against the backdrop of recurring intentional
malicious utterances and actions by certain members of
the party who are bent on dragging the good name of
the party in the mud and, or creating disaffection
between the party and the general public.
According to the party, while the leadership was making
frantic efforts to nip the raging crisis in the bud, no
member of the party should be seen to be frustrating
such efforts.
He said “certain members of the party notably, Senator
Magnus Ngei Abe, Hon Andrew Uchendu, Hon Dakuku
Peterside and some others have been busy throwing
spanners into the works of progress through unguarded
statements and divisive actions.
“The party reminds such members and dissidents of the
provisions of Article 9 of the party’s constitution which
forbids all members from any act that will portray the
party in bad light including publishing or distributing to
the media, any material which purports to be the view of
any faction or tendency within the party.”
Obuah warns that failure to refrain from such anti-party
activities and, or propaganda detrimental to the party,
the party leadership in the state would be left with no
other option but to refer such cases to the Disciplinary
Committee for appropriate action in line with party rules
and regulations.
“We, therefore, enjoin all our party members to be wary
of the temptation to challenge the supremacy of the
party, as not heeding this advice certainly carries dire
consequences, because to be forewarned is to be
forearmed,” he stated.
House leader to remain in police custody
After days of rows and speculations, the detained Leader
of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Chidi Lloyd, was
arraigned in court in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Though the pressure mounted to arraign the lawmaker
yielded the secondary aim of arraignment, the primary
aim of getting him released on bail was defeated as
other arguments preoccupied the court session.
Lloyd was taken to court by police, aided by two persons
to ascend the stairs to the second floor of the court
building hosting Court 11 where Justice L.L. Nyorde
presided.
Ample time was spent on arguments by the Attorney
General and Commissioner for Justice of Rivers State,
Wogu Boms, who appeared in court to take over the
prosecution of the matter as it is a matter involving the
state, a position opposed by the prosecution lead
counsel, Donald De-Wigwe (SAN).
De-Wigwe argued that the state Attorney-General could
not take over the criminal proceedings when there was
no proper arraignment of the accused before the court,
claiming that it was premature.
Also, Beluolisa Nwofor (SAN) who earlier announced his
appearance with other lawyers for Lloyd had objected to
the appearance of De-wigwe and other lawyers for the
prosecution.
Nwofor submitted that De-wigwe, being a private legal
practitioner, must by law obtain a fiat from the state
Attorney-General to prosecute the matter, adding that a
letter he showed to the court was not enough.
He said though the police under section 23 of the Police
Act has powers to prosecute criminal cases, but such
was subject to the powers of the state Attorney-General.
Judge Nyordee, having listened to the parties, adjourned
the case till August 6, 2013, for ruling on both points of
arguments whether Attorney General should take over or
whether De-Wigwe should continue with the prosecution
without a valid fiat from the Attorney General.
The development left the accused, Lloyd remanded in
custody, resulting in anger by his teeming political
associates and supporters who had thronged the court
hoping to have him granted bail yesterday.
However, the Force spokesman, CPS Frank Mba told the
Nigerian Tribune that since the trial could not go on, the
status quo is maintained, which means that Lloyd will be
in police custody until August 6, when the trial judge will
continue the case.

PoliticsTinubu: Nigeria On Irreversible Path Of Change by bcomputer101(op): 12:57am On Aug 01, 2013
A National Leader of the All Progressives Congress,
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday described the
registration of the APC as an irreversible cause of
change and people oriented development.
In a statement, he said: “ Once again, history is made in
our country and before our very eyes. The confirmation of
the registration of the All Progressives Congress (APC),
by INEC signals the commencement of a new phase in
the struggle to bring true democratic change to Nigeria.
This is not just a merger. This is the first ever merger in
the history of Nigeria. It represents a paradigm shift in
the politics of our country. Together we must own it. As
Nigerians, we see history unfold before our very eyes
and we must rise up to answer the call of history to
liberate our people. I congratulate all our governors, all
our members from the North-East, North West,South-
South, South- East, South-West and the North-Central
and all would-be members and well wishers of our great
party, APC.
“ Let me single out for congratulations the leadership of
the merging parties, particularly the executives and the
entire membership of APC for their perseverance,
doggedness and the sacrifices they made in the interest
of our country.
“They resolutely stood behind the merger and had trust
in the leadership and the process. Their faith in the
message of change that APC represents has been aptly
demonstrated. It is to them that the greatest credit goes
to. Because we fulfilled the laws for registration as
prescribed, we all along were confident that our party
will be registered. We worked hard to ensure that our
party was in good stead and in good standing with the
law.
“Selfish interest and ego were shelved. Personal
sacrifices were made, particularly by those who hitherto
occupied higher positions in the merging parties in the
interest of moving Nigeria forward.
“I congratulate millions of Nigerians who stood by us
during the long process to form the APC and actualise its
objective. This registration is a culmination of concerted
and diverse efforts and commitment by our people to
work for a new Nigeria.
“With APC, a new Nigeria is necessary and is possible.
“I also want to congratulate the leadership of INEC
headed by Prof. Jega and the entire institution for this
positive pronouncement. Nigerians must give INEC a pat
on the back for complying with the law of the land. What
INEC has done is to follow the Constitution and the
Electoral Act to the letter. We hope INEC will continue in
this spirit of independence and respect for the rule of law
in all its future operations.
“Today, I can say that Nigeria’s democratic journey has
started on a new course and we must pursue this course
religiously and rigorously. Our commitment to achieving
One Man, One Vote remains resolute.
“We therefore must demand from INEC the full adoption
of the biometric system. Prof. Jega and the Institution he
leads will not achieve much and their efforts at free and
fair elections will not be fruitful until they adopt a
modern technologically-driven biometric system that will
ensure the integrity of our elections and earn the
confidence of Nigeria.
“If this is done, we can then say our democracy has
advanced several miles forward to join other civilised
democracies in Africa. Good job, Jega and INEC. You
deserve an administrative pat on the back. The real
kudos will come when you work to midwife a virile
democracy.
“Finally, with the registration of All Progressives
Congress, APC, the momentum for change has gained in
acceleration as this merger is ready to set Nigeria on an
irreversible course of change and people-oriented
development. Congratulations Nigerians.The struggle has
just begun, because democratic victory is certain.”

PoliticsFG Will Retaliate Against UK Visa Bond by bcomputer101(op): 12:48am On Aug 01, 2013
THE Federal Government on Tuesday insisted on retaliatory action against British citizens if their government went ahead with its plan to impose a £3, 000 visa bond on visitors from Nigeria and five other Commonwealth countries.

It expressed displeasure that Downing Street, which had already set November as the discriminatory policy’s commencement time, had not deemed it neccessary to formally communicate to it on the next step of action.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, had at a meeting with the British High Commissioner, Andrew Pocock, conveyed the desire of Nigeria to retaliate the policy.

The spokesperson for the ministry , Ogbole Ode, said in a statement in Abuja, that the British authorities were already aware of the Federal Government’s position on the matter.

The statement reads, “Media reports in Nigeria on Monday, July 29, 2013, indicated that the United Kingdom Government will begin to implement from November, 2013, the £3,000 cash bond for first-time visa applicants from Nigeria, and five other Commonwealth countries. The other countries are India, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. These media reports themselves were quoting the Financial Times of London.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has yet to receive any official communication on the final decision of the UK government on this matter. The Federal Government has already conveyed its objection to the bond payment to the UK government. This was done when the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ashiru, summoned the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Andrew Pocock, to the Tafawa Balewa House, on June 25, 2013.

“If and when a communication to that effect is received, the Federal Government will take appropriate steps to reflect its national interest. ”

When contacted, the spokesman for the British High Commission in Abuja, Rob Fitzpatrick, said, “No final decision has been made” on the controversial policy.

He said, “As British Prime Minister David Cameron has said, we want the brightest and the best to help create the jobs and growth that will enable Britain to compete in the global race. So, for example, if you are an overseas businessman seeking to invest and trade with world class businesses, one of the thousands of legitimate students keen to study at our first-class universities or a tourist visiting our world class attractions, be in no doubt: Britain is open for business.”

It will be recalled that Ashiru, at the meeting with Pocock, warned that the government would retaliate the discriminatory policy.

On Monday the British government defended a campaign advising illegal immigrants to “go home or face arrest.”

Two trucks, each displaying a large poster with a number for migrants to send text messages if they desired to return to their countries , were seen in six London boroughs for a week.

It was learnt that posters, leaflets and advertisements in newspapers would run for a month to further promote the campaign, a pilot scheme by the interior ministry.

A member of the Liberal Democrat Party, the junior partner in the coalition government with the Conservative Party and Business Secretary, Vince Cable, called the campaign “stupid and offensive.”

The opposition Labour Party’s home affairs spokeswoman, Yvette Cooper, also said the scheme was “ludicrous.”

But Prime Minister David Cameron’s spokesman defended the campaign, saying it was clear that it was “already working” as some illegal immigrants had voluntarily agreed to leave the UK.

PoliticsBorno Govt : No GSM Network For Now by bcomputer101(op): 7:17am On Jul 31, 2013
DEPUTY governor of Borno State, Zannah Umar Mustapha, has said the state is still having some problems, though relative peace is being restored, adding that the state, for now, was not interested in the restoration of GSM network services.

Mustapha said this while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Defence, Police, Army and National Security, during a visit to the state, on Monday.

According to him, the government was not interested in the restoration of GSM network services for now, as it would distablise the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

It will be recalled that since the declaration for the state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, the Joint Task Force (JTF) has cut off telecommunications services in the states, in their offensive raid on Boko Haram sect members.

Mustapha commended the committee, led by its chairman, Senator George Sekibo, for their concern on how to end the Boko Haram insurgency in the North, adding that the committee had demonstrated a sense of nationalism, for revisiting the state to assess the security situation.

The deputy governor said although there were pockets of killings by suspected Boko Haram members in Mainok village, Biu and Kukawa council areas, the government was optimistic that total peace would be restored across the state in no distant time.

Earlier, Senator Sekibo had told the deputy governor that they were in the state for the second time to assess the security situation, meet with security agencies and stakeholders, with a view to collectively review the security challenges in the state.
