Why I'm supporting PDP: Pdp as spend over $600billion in the past 14 years? Tangible and imaginary achievements? 23.9% unemployment rate in 2011, spiraling upward and growing at 16% per year , ranked 153 out of 186 countries in the UN Human Development Index(Poverty Index), External Debt of $6.67billion, Lending rate of 22% and above, ranked 139 out of 176 countries in TI's corruption perception index. A party that has spent over $16billion to generate less than 5000megawatts of epileptic electricity. Mismanaged over N2trillion on fuel subsidy. A rising domestic debt profile, import dependent economy, phenomenally- parlours state of infrastructure etc. We all can see how PDP's culture of waste and. mediocrity has sustained a generation starved in the circle of poverty of hope, ideals and basic necessities of life.... So I'm just in love with party.... |

Nigerians keep showing frequency of different intellectual support for there party ahead of 2015. But the major two opposition party are a matter to reckon with. I need somebody to convince me why i should support PDP, APC or any other party... |

The Presidency on Monday insisted that President Goodluck Jonathan did not sign any agreement with any individual or group that he would serve only one term in office. The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, said this in an interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja. Gulak was reacting to a statement credited to the spokesman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Anthony Sani, on Monday. Sani had said that the crisis in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party would be resolved if Jonathan respected agreements he entered into with stakeholders before the 2011 elections. He was commenting on the visits of five governors - Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso (Kano), Muritala Nyako (Adamawa); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); Sule Lamido (Jigawa) and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto) - to Jonathan and some past leaders. He had said, "Our understanding of the G-5 governors is that they want governors to be carried along in the management of their party; they want internal democracy and they want an end to divisions within the party, and for President Jonathan to respect agreements he entered into voluntarily with stakeholders." The Niger State governor had a few months ago claimed that the President, before the 2011 elections, signed an agreement that he would serve only one term of four years. But Gulak told one of our correspondents that he had challenged Aliyu to produce a copy of the agreement and the governor had not been able to take up the challenge, seven months after. He said, "Rather than insisting on an agreement that does not exist - since anybody can contest for the highest office in the land, those who are so interested should declare their interest and contest. Commenting through his Director of Press, Ahmad Sajo, Adamawa State governor said he and his four colleagues did not discuss a single-term agreement with Jonathan when they met with him recently. He added that their discussion was only based on the crisis in the PDP. Sajo stated, "The governors did not discuss anything about single term agreement with the President. As governors, they are free to meet with the President to discuss the state of the nation because they have responsibilities to their states. When contacted, the Senior Special Assistant to the Sokoto State Governor, Sani Umar, said he was not aware that his principal met with the President. He said that if they met, he did not know what they discussed. The Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor, Aliyu Dantiye, could not be reached for comment as he declined picking calls to his phone. A text message sent to him did not deliver as of press time. Source: m.naij.com/news/44257.html |
The army has taken over operations in the battle against Boko Haram in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. The states have been under a state of emergency since May 14, following the lingering insurgency by the fundamentalist sect, which seeks to islamise Nigeria. A new division of the Army purposely set up for counter insurgency will today take over the control of the three states. The Joint Task Force (JTF), which has operated in each of the states, will be scrapped. The JTF was composed by troops drawn from the three services of the Armed Forces as well as other security agencies that conducted the operation. Director of Defence Information Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade said the Army Headquarters will assume command of the troops with immediate effect. He said the change of baton was in line with the plans laid out for the conduct of the operations to execute the mandate spelt out in the May 14 declaration of State of Emergency by President Goodluck Jonathan. The operation is now code-named Operation BOYONA, an acronym derived from the names of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. "The effort was meant to constitute the first phase of the counter-terrorists operation. The Nigerian Army will now be solely in charge of the operations, but still under the routine guidance of the Defence Headquarters. "A General Officer Commanding (GOC), in the rank of Major General, is being proposed to command the new Division which will have its Headquarters in Maiduguri. He is due to take over Command and the assets of the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force", Brig. Gen. Olukolade's statement added. Source: m.naij.com/news/44111.html |

Zuriel Oduwole, 11, who lives in California in the United States last week made history as the youngest person to be interviewed by Forbes. Miss Oduwole, who was an invited guest to the African Union 50th anniversary, has interviewed leading African personalities, including eight African Presidents, Africa’s richest person Aliko Dangote and tennis super stars – Venus and Serena Williams. In this online interview with Lekan Otufodunrin, Zuriel gives an insight on her incredible feat and her Rebrand Africa project to make a case for the girl-child in the continent. What is the origin of your interest in media and communication, especially personality interviews? The origin of me creating documentaries started with a school project. When I was nine, I entered a school competition called, “National History Day.” And I was the youngest student to enter the competition. In that competition, I had to create a presentation, an exhibit, a performance, or a documentary. So I chose to do a documentary, because I thought using media would be a better way to show something positive about Africa. If I did a performance or a presentation or an exhibit, no one, besides the judges, were allowed to come into the room while I was presenting it. But with a documentary, whoever wanted to come in and watch it could. So if I did a documentary, more people would be able to see Africa in the way I see it. And that documentary could lead on to positive and greater things for Africa. I like to show the rest of the world the positive things about Africa, through my documentaries. One of my documentaries won an award in the largest county in the United States. My documentary has also chronicled the impact of the OAU on Africa. Do you know I write my own scripts, I produce my own documentaries, I shoot my own scenes, I do my own voice over, I edit my own documentaries, and I co – direct my documentaries. I am an African Child – a Nigerian Girl Child. How much of your Nigerian and African heritage has impacted on your life? Oh I would say a lot. Since I want to show the world the positive side of Africa, my African heritage has helped me a lot. I know where my roots are from on the African continent because my dad’s family and my mum’s family are from two different parts of Africa, and I lived in Africa in both regions for periods of time. I have not always lived in California. So, when I watch the news, I always see bad things being said about Africa, like the wars and famine going on. And I don’t like seeing those things being said about my home country, even though it happens. It is how they say it that is unfair. If I was American, I would still want to help Africa. But because I am African, I feel the need more to help Africa than I if I was just American. It is like helping your own people. There are some problems, like the power going off. But do you know that there are times the power goes off in the United States as well. The only difference is they fix it very quickly, or bring it back very quickly. So, we all need to help. I read in the papers that General Electric is now in Nigeria doing the power. That is very good, because the children need to study at night for school. Why are you passionate about your Dream up, Speak up and Stand up for African renaissance campaign? I think my programme, Dream up, Speak up, and Stand up will help the new African era, by helping the girl- child. It is the best way I can help. Other people do things as well like have foundations, or do charities and raise money, but for me, my best way is to work very hard, and be an example. So that means when I say Dream up, they can see I am living the dream and so can they, when I say Speak up, they can see me speaking to World leaders, and when I say Stand up, they can see me standing up for the African Girl child. Also, I am hoping that the parents of girls in Africa will see me as an example, and see that their girls have a lot of potential in life, and can achieve great things in life. Even though they might have very little as some of them do, they can still push harder to get their girls to school, or find more ways to get them educated. When I launched the project in Nigeria in March this year, it was very good to have the support of the Lagos Business Schools communication’s department, the US Consulate in Lagos, Protea Ikeja Hotel and Federal Palace Hotel too. They supported the project. So now, I am going to other regions of Africa to launch the project next. What is your impression of the African leaders and others you have interviewed and what advice do you have for them? First I have to say the whole experience was really cool. They were all very kind and very warm and friendly to me. I think some of them were surprised by my questions, because only one of the Presidents I have met asked me to send the questions before I arrived for the interviews. The other seven did not. For example, President Ellen Johnson of Liberia by the time when I asked her the third question said to me you are a tough interviewer, and everyone laughed. Also, when I asked President Jonathan how much Goodluck his name has brought to Nigeria, he laughed as well, and then answered. President Fonseca of Cape Verde said he was one a University Professor and has seen many questions, but none like mine, and he invited me to come to his country to inspire the girls. President Joyce Banda of Malawi was also surprised by my question. She said when she was my age, she never dreamt of doing things like I was doing, but that she is inspired that I have the boldness to go and interview heads of states. Some Presidents hugged me after the interviews, some called me their daughter, some kissed me on the head; they were all very kind. And when I saw some again at the AU last May, they were excited to see me again, like President Kikwete of Tanzania. He spent some time talking to me and kept his entourage waiting. I saw people asking who that girl is. It was a special time for me. President Kufuor was also happy to see me again at the AU because I had interviewed him last year in Kumasi, and he remembered me very well. He then introduced me to his friend, President Obasanjo, and then we took pictures together. I don’t have any advice for them because they are older, but I like everyone to know that educating and fighting for the education of the Africa Girl Child, is an investment in Africa. I hope you think so too. What is your reaction to being touted as the next Larry King? I am just doing my best. Larry King has accomplished many great things in his life. He, like me, has also interviewed many people like sports persons, leaders of countries, leaders in business and we all do it for many reasons. He has done many great things at his age, and that is Larry King. I have also tried to accomplish some things but because I want to show what the Girl Child can do, if they are educated, and encouraged. Just imagine all 5, or 8, or 10 or 12 year olds especially in Africa being given an opportunity to go to school and have real dreams. It means Africa would be a more developed and have more qualified leaders 10 years from now or 15 years from now. Because it means we would be 20 years old or 25 years old or 30 years old then. How supportive are your parents in your campaign? My mum and dad have been very, very supportive from the beginning. They are always supportive of me and my young siblings. It doesn’t matter if its Basketball, Music class, Soccer, or Cheerleading, they are always supportive and drive us to all our classes and events. Sometimes, I think it is a lot especially when me and one of my parents have to travel overseas for my interviews with Presidents because they have to make sacrifices like ask us to chose between something we wanted to do or me and my parent for the travel. I had to learn the meaning of opportunity cost when I was eight years old. Dad said it means choosing between two things and which one has the more value than the other, or which one would have the more potential in the future. The Police are set to arraign six members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), for alleged illegal activities. The suspected MASSOB leaders arrested on August 6 according to Delta Police are: Ndubisi Ezeocha, 20, Francis Onuigbo, 28, Emeka Izigbo, 28 and Andrew Nwufulu, 26 Delta Police spokesman Lucky Uyabeme who gave the names added: “On August 7, one Emeka Okafor ‘m’ aged 52 years, a native of Nkanu in Enugu State and the acclaimed leader of the group was arrested with five other suspects.” Uyabeme, an ASP, said the suspects would be charged to court at the end of investigation. He listed the items recovered from them to include, 114 Biafran flags, two boots, 129 Biafran pounds and ten shillings. Others things recovered from them he said, include: 32 membership forms and other documents, ten pairs of complete Biafran uniforms with name tags, three cutlasses, seven hard cover notebooks for minutes of meeting, two military belts and one expended cartridge. He said the police would not allow any part of the state to be used as breeding ground for any criminal activity, insisting that acts of the suspects were “treasonable and the government will not condone such lawlessness.” Okafor, who is the Coordinator of MASSOB in Anioma/ Ndokwa East region, said he was arrested last week and has been in police detention. in police detention. Police accused the suspects of attacking vigilance men at Powerline and Ominigboma areas of Asaba. Okofor insisted that they were arrested because of the growing popularity of MASSOB. His words: “This is a sector, how can we go and attack them. They are afraid that if MASSOB continues to be visible, they would not continue to harass people. They are street people. “Nothing much happened, there were people that came there and wanted to sympathise with flood victims and three of my members went there. Unfortunately one of them, who has not been given proper MASSOB training, went with them. “And while there, they were pushing each other trying to get space and in the process the vigilance people slapped one of my boys and he retaliated. And then the vigilante people called policemen from ‘B’ Division. Instead of coming to settle the matter, the police started arresting our members, nothing again.” He said MASSOB remained a peaceful association that is going about its activities without intimidating, harassing or attacking members of the public, adding that they were attacked by crooks who removed everything that the police paraded as exhibits. “We did not go on road block neither did we go on demonstration. We were at a place and they went there to search everything. Those boys are crooks, they searched everywhere and brought out these moneys. The money is for me, we keep the money knowing that it is a legal tender to the Biafran people, so we hide it because we know the quality of it,” he said. The 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sokoto, reported on August 12, 2013, Monday, about the raid on the hideout of suspected Boko Haram insurgents, which started on Sunday night. The arrest of suspected gang leader, Mubarak, alias Dan-Hajiya, have been also confirmed. Captain Yahaya Musa, spokesman of the brigade, said at a news briefing in Sokoto that the operation was jointly conducted with operatives of the State Security Service (SSS). He said the operation was in continuation of the series of raids by security agencies to rid Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states of some fleeing insurgents from volatile states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe. "Troops of the brigade have in the past few days intensified raids on the hideouts of these suspected Boko Haram terrorists. "We have also made several arrests and investigations are ongoing; so this is the only one we can authoritatively confirm now. "But I can, however, authoritatively confirm that there were no deaths recorded either on the side of the insurgents or the military and SSS," he said. Captain Musa said that arms and ammunition were recovered from the house of the suspect at Nakasari area of Sokoto. He said that items recovered included three AK-47 riffles, one riot gun, 153 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunitions, explosives, three cartons of acid, knock- outs, chemicals and thermometers. He appealed to the residents to shun rumours and urged them to sustain the tempo of support and cooperation with the security agencies. Source: m.naij.com/news/43313.html |

NOT less than five persons died when two factions of youths popularly called Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) clashed in Biu, in a raid on Boko Haram terrorists, one of the survivor told the Nigerian Tribune. Biu is about 185 kilometres away from Maiduguri, Borno State capital, and has witnessed series of killings and bombings by suspected Boko Haram terrorists. Abdullahi Mohammed, who sustained gunshot injury during the incident and currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Gombe, confirmed the incident to newsmen. “Allhadulillahi. I am still alive. I was shot on my chest by soldiers, but Allhadulillahi, the medical doctors here have successfully removed the bullet from my body,” Mohammed said. According to him, trouble started when a group of civilian JTF from Maiduguri, accompanied by soldiers, invaded Biu town, in search of Boko Haram terrorists. “The civilian JTF in Biu asked those that came from Maiduguri to leave the town, because their presence in the town is likely to cause more harm than good to residents,” he said. According to him, it was in the process that a fight ensued between the two youth groups, leading to the death of five persons. “I saw five dead bodies before I was rushed to FMC in Gombe. It is possible the casualty figure may be more than five, because only two of us survived. I can’t tell where other dead bodies were deposited,” Mohammed said. Efforts to get the JTF or the police to confirm or deny the incident failed, as GSM telecommunications remained grounded in Borno State. Borno govt fumigates liberated Boko Haram’s dens As normalcy is gradually returning to Maiduguri, the state Ministry of Enviroment has begun massive fumigation and clearing of drainage of areas within the town previously under the stranglehold of the outlawed Boko Haram sect. The sanitation came on the heels of the call by the state government to all the fleeing residents of the town to return back to their homes. Nigerian Tribune, at the weekend, gathered that former enclaves of the sect, which were deserted at the peak of the crisis, had started showing signs of life, as some of the fleeing residents had returned. A man suspected to have killed one Goltona Salihu for ritual purpose has been arrested with two dry human eyes believed to have been those of the victim. The principal suspect, one Tacha Tali, was arrested with the human eyes last week, July 26, according to the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Chris Olakpe. Tali was paraded alongside three other suspects said to have collaborated with him in committing the act. “Tacha Tali was arrested and during the course of investigation, he confessed that he was the one who killed Goltona Salihu and plucked his eyes for ritual purposes,” the police commissioner said. Olakpe said Goltona Salihu named three collaborators; Nengak Sunday, Ngonap Tapyitda, and Kulime Nangkum, the latter being the herbalist among them. The police commissioner added, “On February 22, 2013, one Salihu Miri of Shwar village in Kanke Local Government Area reported that his son, Goltona Salihu, left home to graze cows and he did not return. A search party was organised and they later found the corpse of his son without eyes in a decomposing state.” Source: dailytrust.info/index.php/news/2292-man-caught-with-human-eyes-in-plateau |
•Says Gov must beg him •Declares: ‘If President Jonathan removes me as minister, I’ll continue to fight’ Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State must brace up for more trouble from the opposition in the days and months ahead, if the threat, yesterday, by one of the forces against him, is anything to go by. Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, boasted at a reception for him in Port Harcourt that he is ready to make life even more uncomfortable for the governor who is locked in the political battle of his life with the Presidency and his party (PDP), at the state and federal levels; the State Police Commissioner, Mbu Joseph Mbu and the Police Command; the Minister and his five supporters in the State House of Assembly; ex-militants; as well as other political forces from within and outside the state. The reception also doubled as a grand finale of the inauguration of units of the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI) in Obio/Akpor LGA of the state. Wike is the grand patron of GDI. “We will make sure they will not sleep again, as they are sleeping now. They will not sleep with their two eyes closed. One eye will be open because they know there is danger,” the minister said, 24 hours after Amaechi told a delegation of Niger Delta Bishops who are trying to resolve the political crisis in the state that Wike remains a minister today by “the grace of God” and his (Amaechi’s) effort. The governor’s words: “Nyesom Wike was appointed Chief of Staff by me. Nyesom Wike as a Minister of State, I nominated him. I was under pressure by the President to drop him, I refused. The President persuaded me to drop him and bring a woman but I refused. ” I heard he is going all over town saying I didn’t appoint him, I didn’t appoint him, the President appointed him but I nominated him to be a minister as the Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum. I did, but you know character doesn’t come easily, character is a very difficult thing and I am a man of character.” But in what looked like a response to the broadside fired at him on Friday by Amaechi, the minister said yesterday that the governor and the 27 members of the State Assembly on his side have not had enough trouble occasioned by their April 22 suspension of the Obio/ Akpor Local Government Council. Wike, who is aspiring to replace Amaechi as governor in 2015, hails from the local government area. He was a two-term chairman of the council. The minister, speaking at yesterday’s rally, said: “They said we are nobody. Then they have seen. When you are dealing with nobody, be careful. The nobody will show you that he is somebody. We will make sure they will not sleep again. As they are sleeping, they will not sleep with their two eyes closed. One eye will be open, because they know there is danger. “Those who are saying they must remove me, I have even overstayed. For you to be minister for two years, you must thank your God. If today we are no longer minister, do not worry yourself. It will not change us. We will continue to fight for what we believe in. “We were not minister when we fought for them in 2007. When we were here, they were not having problems. Now, we have gone, they are having problems. “We have always told them: you cannot do it. What you do not know, you do not know. It does not matter, whatever money you have, money cannot buy everything. Now, they are having sleepless nights. When we were here, were they having sleepless nights? “When we were here, were they not travelling up and down? Are they travelling again? Tell them, they should come and beg us. Tell them to come back and beg us. We will tell them the secret. What God has not given to you, you do not need to do anything about it. “I can assure you, all they are asking for: they want a commissioner of police that will be arresting you. Anytime they call the CP, he will arrest you. But let me tell you, we are not interested in whoever comes here (CP), all we are interested in is to have somebody who will not be partial. “Let them bring whoever they want to bring (as CP).We want somebody who will want democracy to be practised in Rivers State. They said one man, one vote. Now, they do not want one man, one vote again. “Obio/Akpor LGA is not a place you can toy with. Those who feel they can suspend Obio/Akpor council officials, we will make them uncomfortable. They felt once they had dissolved the council, they would sleep. “The party has suspended them, because they have touched the lion and when you touch the lion, you know the consequences. Since they said the councillors will not take their salaries, they also will know that they will not belong to the PDP. “The party chairman (Chief Felix Obuah) warned them and they said he would not be able to do anything. At the end of the day, they are going to court to challenge us. We will meet them in court. We are not afraid of the court. We are accustomed to it. All the ones they have gone, we have been winning them and we will continue to win them. “They are doing everything they can. They are using their power and their money. Money cannot solve all problems. Sometimes, you have to come back home and realise that the people matter a lot. It is the power of the people that has put us in positions and you must come back to thank the people. “Forget about what they are doing to you (his supporters). Do not worry. We are all together. Do not lose hope. God is on the throne.” Wike said the suspended Chairman of Obio/Akpor LG, Mr. Timothy Nsirim, who also attended the rally; his deputy, Solomon Eke, and the 17 councillors have been denied their salaries since April, but said that is part of the sacrifice to make democracy survive. The minister asked the people of the state to continue to support President Jonathan and the party. He urged members of the GDI, in particular, to go to all the wards, communities and families in the state not to abandon President Jonathan and his wife. Wike added: “Your duty as GDI members is to go and mobilise the entire state for our son (Jonathan), eventually when he decides to run and we believe the people of the Southsouth zone cannot sacrifice, for whatever it is, our own son, for anything less than President.” Factional Chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Felix Obuah, pledged at the function to reconcile Amaechi, Wike and other aggrieved members of the party in the state. Obuah said: “I want to invite the governor (Amaechi), the minister (Wike) and all aggrieved members of Ikwerre community, to be with me in my palace next weekend. Let us sit down and fashion a way forward. I will not sit down and see my children quarrelling, and I will not feel concerned.” A former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara, described Obio/Akpor LGA as the home of the GDI and the PDP, stressing that “anybody standing on your way is standing before a moving train and will be crushed.” The President-General of the GDI, Bright Amewhule, in his remarks, stated that President Jonathan would be supported to return in 2015 and that they were solidly behind Wike. The ceremony is the latest by the anti-Amaechi camp in the state. Similar ceremonies by pro-Amaechi groups are routinely disallowed by the police, prompting observers from within and outside the state to accuse the police leadership in the state of taking sides. A rally scheduled for last Tuesday by civil rights groups to protest what they called anti-democratic tendencies in the state was not allowed to hold by the police. Some militants even threatened that the lives of some of those expected at the rally were not safe should they come. •Says 5 Northern govs want to stop Jonathan from contesting SHOULD President Goodluck Jonathan decide to contest the 2015 presidential election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will have no choice than to give him the ticket, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has declared. He also said that the five northern state governors who have been going around the country ostensibly to stop any attempt by the President to go for a second term in office have their own agenda but only using the Rivers State crisis as a smokescreen. The Presidential aide assured that nobody can beat the President whenever he makes up his mind to join the race. Okupe, who made the declaration while fielding questions from newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, said it would be advantageous to the ruling party to field the incumbent President who, rather than campaign with what he will do when elected, will convince the electorate with what he had already achieved. He said, “If this party PDP is a very serious party, which I believe it is, if the President decides to run, why should the party pick somebody else? The only advantage it will have in contesting is that it has an incumbent President who will not be telling Nigerians that ‘vote for me I will do this.’ He will be telling Nigerians ‘vote for me, I have done this.’ “All those talking about no automatic ticket, what they are saying is politically unwise and impracticable and they cannot come to pass.” The Presidential aide, who emphasised that Jonathan has not decided to run, was confident that if he so decides, nobody can beat him. He added that those who are boasting that the south will never win the presidency are “day dreaming” as what they are saying “will never come to pass.” “President Jonathan has not decided and has not told anybody. That is the truth. If he decides to run, nobody can beat him, it’s not possible. The calculations are in his favour, the odds are in his favour, the national supports are in his favour, the performance index is in his favour,” he stated. Okupe further remarked that the five northern governors who are presently touring the country, are not telling Nigerians the truth as they have an agenda other than the Rivers State crisis which they claim they are holding consultations over. According to him, “they have their own agenda. It is not what they are telling the Nigerian public. They are telling us that the real motivating factor is this Rivers State and people keep talking about crisis in Rivers State. How do you define crisis? There is no unrest in Rivers State. “Nobody is burning any house in Rivers State. Commuters, traders and business men are going about their businesses in Rivers State, the governor is junketing abroad or rather having a good time. All these talk is just in the imagination of those who want to stoke the fire that does not exist. “There is no problem in Rivers State. I have said it and I am saying it again, (Governor Rotimi) Amaechi has a problem with some members of House of Assembly. Within the House of Assembly in Rivers State, there are divisions and it is not strange. It is not unusual. “Over 18 Speakers have been removed in this our young democracy and nothing happened. Like I told you, this is 2015 live. Everything you hear about Rivers State, anything you hear about governors moving all over the place is nothing to do with Rivers State. “Rivers State is a political camouflage. You can quote me. The real thing is intense politicking by people with very serious interest in the polity or who have agenda they want to make sure manifest by hook or by crook. “They are going all over the country, trying to mobilize support for what they want to do. Someone said that they try to intimidate the President not to run because, it is obvious they are insisting that there will be no open ticket for the President.” On the registration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Okupe maintained that it is a testimony to the openness and transparency of the Jonathan administration. He added that the existence of APC as a political party will lessen the burden of the PDP which will now concentrate its effort in tackling one party rather than several parties at the same time. Okupe remarked, “The registration of APC is perhaps the most powerful, the most eloquent testimony of the openness, transparency, honesty and political liberalism of President Goodluck Jonathan. “This would not have happened under many African Presidents, especially when it is obvious to those who care to study the situation properly that there were obvious hurdles and obstacles to that registration, which could have been exploited, and could have amplified and could have been used by people of lesser integrity to frustrate the APC. “This is a testament and this is a testimony that contrary to what you said, we have no fear whatsoever about APC registration. We are not in any way anxious. These are people that were beaten individually before and collectively we will defeat them randomly. “But we are glad that at least now instead of fighting three or four parties, we can concentrate on one and get it done. I can assure you that there is nobody in the Villa that is worried. For us it is a good thing, it is a great development. “I don’t know whether the opposition is credible enough. I cannot attest to that, but at least you know, what we have is that we have political parties that have been inept previously, that have been extremely weakened and of no serious political importance. They have now come together under one umbrella with an attempt to challenge the status quo. We will see how far they can go.” Source: www.tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/component/k2/item/18125-2015-nobody-can-beat-jonathan-if-he-contests-presidency-says-5-northern-govs-want-to-stop-jonathan-from-contesting.html
