1. Wash your hair once a week and let it air-dry.
2. Apply hair oil daily. Consider using a protein conditioner.
3. Try taking vitamins and eating more protein, drink plenty water.
4. Trim the damaged ends off every two weeks.
5. Limit the heat styling, or avoid it altogether.
6. Loose braids can be more beneficial and less damaging than tight, excessive braiding.
7. Try box braids, as they allow natural hair to grow.
8. The heat from flat irons and blow dryers will cause your hair to be coarse and dry. Use silicone-free heat protection products prior to use.
9. Eat healthy food, exercise and drink a lot of water. Only massage your scalp with argan or coconut oil if needed. You can also use castor oil.
10. Don't twist your hair out.
Even if you are using a product for damaged hair, you may still need to trim off your split ends.
All black hair is different and should be treated as such.

other ways to make carrot oil

Carrot oil is considered to be very useful oil: it tones up, and at the same time, produces a calming effect on skin and hair. Uses of carrot oil are quite versatile, for example, healing properties for delicate skin of eyes and lips, fighting skin aging, in particular, neck skin aging.

1st method: How to make carrot oil at home?
We need just 2 ingredients, of course, carrots and one of the oils: Olive oil, Almond oil or Coconut oil. You need to peel Carrots, RUB them on a grater and place them in water, pour some oil there. Keep in a water bath until it becomes noticeable that the carrot sank to the bottom and oil acquired orange color. Carefully remove, drain, pour the oil into a clean jar for the storage.

2nd method:
You need to RUB peeled Carrots on a grater, move them to a clean jar and pour as much oil (olive or almond or coconut) to cover the carrots. Close the jar with a lid and leave on the sun for 2 weeks. How to make carrot oil at home? Each day this bottle should be shaken. Beta-carotene and fat-soluble vitamins dissolved in oil will make it acquire pale orange color. After 2 weeks, this carrot oil should be filtered. Carrot oil should be stored in a cool, dark place.

Uses of carrot oil It is worth bearing in mind that carrots do not contain enough oil, so carrot oil is made by adding other natural oils. Carrot oil is not difficult to be prepared at home. Carrot oil can be used to restore healthy skin color and also to improve its elasticity and firmness. Particularly effective is the use of oil for moisturizing of skin during the cold weather, when the house is overheated. Carrot oil for skin cure If you suffer from eczema, psoriasis or irritation of any kind, carrot oil will be able to provide a kind of a first aid. Carrot oil for skin lightening

Politics / Re: Nigeria Today: Major Reason Why We Cant Move Forward. by Beachqueen59(f): 7:48pm On Apr 24, 2017
poverty is the real source of corruption and tribalism is the second cause. tribalism and corruption will continue to exist as long as questions like "what state are you from", "what village are you from" and "what tribe are you from" No longer matters in this country its questions like this that makes us divided. if you want to do anything in dis Nigeria this questions must be asked, eg ( in jamb or waec registration it is asked, opening a bank accounts etc). Can you ask an American or a British what tribe they are from in their countries? because in their minds "they are all one". but here in Nigeria, hmm. if anything happens am not from anambra am from Enugu. how can there be unity when everyone has that mindset and are busy fighting for their tribes, even in their villages they are still divided as clans, there are 527 ethic groups in Nigeria 7 of which are now extinct... when will Nigeria change

How to Make Carrot Oil.

Supplies Needed
-Veggie peeler
- Hand grater or food processor
- Crock pot
- Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
-Glass mason jar

Ingredients
-2 organically or home grown carrots
-olive, coconut, sunflower, or sesame oil, to
cover

Method
1. Wash and peel the skin of the carrots.
2. Grate carrots with the use of a hand grater or
food processor.
3. Place the grated carrots in a crock pot and
pour the oil of your choice to cover. Note: I
used 2 1/4 cups of oil or 18 ounces.
4. On your crock pot’s lowest setting, maintain a
warm temperature — infusing the oil for a full
24-72 hours. Note: I use the “warm”
temperature setting on my crock pot. Try not
to allow the temperature of the oil to rise
above 100-105 degrees farenheit. You will
notice the oil becoming orange in color.
5. Once the infusion process is complete, pour
the carrots and oil mixture through a
fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth and strain.
6. Reserve the oil and compost the carrots.
7. Label and store the oil in a glass mason jar in
the refrigerator until ready for use. Will keep
for 6-8 months if stored properly.

What are crochet braids?
As the name suggests,
crochet braids are hair extensions that
are literally crocheted into your own
hair (braided into cornrows ) with a
latch hook tool almost the same with sewing on weavons.
This type of hairstyle is now getting popular as it offers protection to the hairline and also serves as a protective hair style.

Advantages of Crochet Braid.

The application process is far
quicker than that of a traditional
sew-in, box braids, or even twists.
*There is a minimal stress to your
scalp because all you’re doing is
looping on synthetic hair onto your
already braided hair--no pressure or
pulling required, which makes this a
great protective style.
*It looks very very real, as in looking at it you wont even believe that it was fixed in.

What You'll Need
*3 packs of braiding hair of your
choice.
*1 Latch Hook
*1 pair of scissors (if you choose to
cut length)

Fashion / Hair Must Grow: Tips On Getting Rid Of Itchy Hair Scalp by Beachqueen59(f): 8:06am On Jun 09, 2016
An itchy scalp does not only causes discomfort,
but it can also be embarrassing and lead to
hair loss. It is caused by dandruff, dry scalp,
unhygienic hair conditions, improper diet,
stress, sebaceous cysts, head lice, fungal and
vital infections like eczema, psoriasis, etc.
Some symptoms include skin infection,
itching, swelling, redness, and damaged hair.

Tips to Reduce itchy scalp

-Dry your hair thoroughly everyday
because damp hair causes product
buildup which leads to dryness and
itching.
-Brush or comb gently 2 – 3 times a
day which helps to distribute the
natural oils.
-Do not use products containing
alcohol.
-Make sure you do not have head lice.
Try to reduce your stress levels by
doing exercises like yoga, meditation,
deep breathing, walking, swimming,
etc.
-Drink water as often as possible to
hydrated yourself and your scalp.
-Consume food that is rich in fatty
acids, vitamin A, b and C and zinc.
Use hot oil massages to increase the
blood flow and reduces dryness.
-Take supplements of vitamin E to
hydrate your skin and keep you
hydrated.
-Do not scratch your scalp as this can
make the problem worse.
Try new shampoos, oils and
conditioners, etc for 2 weeks to
remove any build up which resulted
from the constant use of older ones.
Avoid applying chemicals to your
hair.
Regularly wash your bed sheets and
pillows to avoid the problem of mites.

If your itchy scalp is not cured within a
week or two, then consult dermatologist

Fashion / Hair Must Grow Naija: How To Take Care Of Your Relaxed African Hair. by Beachqueen59(f): 9:07am On Jun 07, 2016
-Relax your hair every 8 to 16 weeks depending on your hair's needs. Do not relax your hair every time new growth appears, since relaxing too often causes major damage to the hair and scalp. For one week following your relaxer, use a reconstructor instead of your regular conditioner when you wash your hair. After a week return to your regular shampoo.
-Wash and condition your hair once or twice a week. Try to use mild and gentle shampoo and a very moisturizing conditioner designed for chemically-treated hair. If you have sensitive skin, consider using shampoos that do not contain Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Using a deep conditioner that contains both protein and moisture once per week. Chemically-treated hair must always be treated with a leave-in conditioner after every wash.
-Comb the damp hair with a wide tooth comb or shower/detangling comb with a very slippy conditioner in it as wet hair is in its most vulnerable state and is more likely to break.
For those who need to wash more frequently than every once or twice a week, "CO- washing" (Conditioner Only washing) is an excellent alternative to the conditioning. Cowashing is washing your hair with a lightweight moisturizing conditioner, eliminating the shampoo which can be very drying to chemically treated/damaged hair when done too frequently. This can even be done daily. - For best results, simply rinse the hair well with warm water, and apply conditioner to the hair, starting about 2 inches (5.1 cm) away from the scalp, and smooth it through to the ends. Apply more to the ends if they are dry. Avoid applying conditioner to the scalp unless it is dry. Rinse conditioner very well.
-It is best to avoid using heat to dry your hair, especially if the relaxed hair is somewhat damaged. Hair should be left to air dry at least partially before using a blow dryer on a low to medium temperature setting. -The hair should be completely dry before you use a curling or flat iron on it. Make sure to use a heat protection product prior to any heat use. When using a curling iron to style your hair, do not allow the barrel cover to clamp down on your hair. Hold the barrel cover slightly open and allow the hair to move over the curling iron barrel without the tugging and pulling caused by pressure from the barrel cover. Whenever the barrel cover clamps down on your hair it creates a weak point at which breakage is inevitable.
-Never use petrolatum and mineral oil hair oil on relaxed hair as a moisturizer. These ingredients do NOT moisturize the hair but rather functions as a sealant (meaning it protects the cuticle layer from damage and moisture loss). Depending on your hair type, you may need to use daily hair conditioner, but use products that actually oil the scalp. For best results, choose a lightweight oil (such as jojoba, coconut, almond, or olive oil) rub a small amount (1-2 drops) in the palms and spread lightly through the scalp of the hair. Comb your hair evenly to moisturize the tips of the hair. Applying a small amount of oil to wet hair can also act as a leave-in conditioner and provides excellent conditioning in preparation for the next shampooing.
-Use as little heat as possible with your hair as heat can only do more damage to relaxed hair. It's okay to style your hair with a curling iron occasionally, however a roller set is the best method. If you want to maintain a curly look over a few days, pincurling is a healthy option. Be sure to use hair- friendly pins and a satin bonnet to prevent dryness and breakage overnight. -Water based moisturizers are best for all hair types, although leave-in conditioners can double as moisturizer for the hair. -Avoid moisturizers with petrolatum and mineral oil unless you wash/condition and/or cowash regularly. -Deep condition the hair every week to maintain strength and moisture in the hair. Do not overwash your hair by shampooing relaxed hair more than once a week. To do this take a creamy deep conditioning treatment that contains both moisturizing and mild protein ingredients to clean damp hair. For best results, apply a plastic shower cap and let hair sit for up to 30-45 min. To save time, sitting under a hooded dryer on medium heat for 15-20 min is equally effective. Deep conditioning regularly and consistently can help maintain the hair's integrity, allowing it to withstand regular manipulation and styling, as well as preventing damage. Invest more money in a deep conditioner rather than any other product, as this will be the best tool for preventing hair damage and should contain quality ingredients. -Don't brush your hair with harsh bristles

Fashion / Hair Must Grow Naija: Why You Should Use Palm Oil On Your Hair. by Beachqueen59(f): 11:08am On Jun 05, 2016
Red palm oil is not just an every day
vegetable or oil. Palm oil is rich in
antioxidants such as vitamin A and its high
concentrations of vitamin E protects skin cells
and improve overall health. Studies have found
red palm oil to contains vitamins D and K,
which are not present in other oils. The rich
nutrient content in red palm oil makes it ideal
for your hair and skin. Organic red palm oil
contains natural antibacterials that fight
bacteria and free radicals. Using red palm oil
on your hair can help maintain moisturized
and conditioned hair. Red
palm oil is beneficial if you have a cut or
scrape on your skin, because the oil will kill
germs. This antibacterial oil is also good for
your hair and scalp because it can prevent
scalp acne and dry scalp. Red palm oil is rich
in vital nutrients. These vitamins are essential
for healthy hair and skin. Vitamins A and E are
free radical neutralizers and they fight free
radicals, helping to protect and preserve your
cells, resulting in healthier hair and skin. This
red palm oil hair treatment is highly
recommended to be done at least once every 4
weeks. When hair is lacking nutrition, you will
have dry, brittle hair which can stop your hair
growth. Red palm oil hair treatment is a must
try for all women especially if you have damaged or dry hair. I have to admit i was very skeptical to
try this regiment. Although I know all the
health benefits that this palm oil
provides because after all, I eat red palm oil
every other day as part of my daily food
intake. I've also heard of red palm oil soap which is used as a natural facial treatment which is sure to leave your skin glowing. I never thought I would find myself applying that red stuff on my hair, like seriously?

on a Saturday when I
had nowhere to go and not much to do. I had
to put on dark clothes and dark brown towels
to avoid red palm oil stains. After I was able to
get the oil through my hair I twisted my hair
into the three different sections, I put on a
shower cap and then wrapped a small dark
brown towel on my head. The whole thing
started at 11:00am and by 5pm I decided to
wash the red palm oil out of my hair. By the
way, throughout the day I had my paper towel
to whip the oil off my neck and forehead as it
could drip down at times (but you can simply
avoid this by putting just enough and not too
much red palm oil). The secret is to also apply
the red palm oil when it is semi-solid and not
too liquid to avoid too much mess as you
apply it to your hair so you can refrigerate the
oil for a few hours prior to using it. As the day
goes on, it will melt and that is another reason
to have your paper towel handy. I also used
the paper towel at the end of the treatment to
first whip the excess of oil off my hair before
bending forward over my kitchen sink simply
because it is stainless steal and was much
easier to wash off any red oil stains. I might
have used too much red palm oil to begin with
but 2 spoons of the oil should go a long way
depending on how much hair you have. The
idea is to be sure you have red palm oil all
over your hair from the scalp to the hair tip. I
did 3 shampoo washes and then applied my
favorite hair conditioner. My hair was mighty soft,
nourished and shiny and it just looked and felt like
I fed it with some great food. now this is
something I can't explain, you just have to try
and experience it for yourself and Yes it's that
good.

red palm oil.

Fashion / Hair Must Grow Naija: For Awesome Hair You Should Pre-poo by Beachqueen59(f): 10:56am On Jun 04, 2016
WHAT IS PRE-POOING?
Pre-pooing is short for Pre-shampoo. It
is a treatment you do before you
shampoo your hair so as to add or
retain moisture in your hair follicles. It
can be done with oils or conditioners or
both. You can also add Natural products
like avocado, bananas, honey and
yoghurt in your prepoo mixture. And it
can stay in the hair from about 30
minutes long to overnight. Depends on
personal choice and what your hair
needs.

WHY SHOULD WE PRE-POO?
We pre-poo our hair because it is a
very imperative treatment for longer,
stronger, healthier hair. Pre-poo nurtures our hair, saves us from
dry, brittle hair, retains our moisture,
and softens our hair.

BENEFITS OF A PREPOO
– Our hair dries out fast. A prepoo
treatment re-introduces moisture back into the hair. We
need moisture and a prepoo is an
important way to get it. It gives is
added moisture and it restores lost
moisture.
– Believe it or not, it helps detangle
your hair. Those knots and tangled,
doing a prepoo will loosen them. Also
makes detangling easier.
– Helps reduce and prevent breakage of
hair.
– Helps you grow out healthy hair. You
should see changes in your length if you
prepoo whenever you wash your hair
with a shampoo. Also helps to retain
length.

HOW TO PREPOO
Since you’re doing it before you wash,
it’s done on dry hair.
1. Part hair into 4 or more sections.
2. Coat each section with your prepoo
mixture and detangle as you coat.
3. Make sure mixture goes from root to
tip.
4. Cover up with a shower cap. Sit
under a steamer if you can. Or you can
just stay where there’s a little heat. Let
it sit for 30 minutes or more (can go
overnight) then you wash as usual.

Health / Hair Must Grow Naija : How To Revive Your Receeding Hairline. by Beachqueen59(f): 10:08am On May 16, 2016
Receeding hairline is a nasty problem no one wants to have. But unfortunatly it happens to some of us Including me as this means that we wont be able to free braid any hairstyle of our choice inother to avoid further damage to our hairline.
CAUSES OF RECEEDING HAIRLINE.
1) Dry hair: due to the fragile and curly nature of african hair. Our black hair is more prone to losing its moisture and natural oils secreted from glands in our scalps cant flow down to the ends of the hair.

2) Tight hair styles: hairstyles like ghana weaving/cornrows, senegalis twists etc pull hard on our front hair eventually causing the hair to pull off. I recommend using protective hair styles instead.

3) Genetics: sometimes most of us have naturally weak hairlines. Take me for example my grandma had receeding hairline, my own mum had receeding hair line and i myself have receeding hairline.

4) Too much heat:- using flat irons, blow driers etcs literally fries the hair.

1 OF MANY REMEDIES FOR RECEEDING HAIR LINE.
Shea butter and olive oil -
* Get a frying pan and desolve shea butter inside the pan (by heating pan with shea butter on low heat of course).
* mix in olive oil (and add in other oils like coconut oil, few drops of carrot essential oil with emu oil. Cause thats what i use but these are optional)
* pour into an air tight container.
* massage this onto your front hair line scalp day and night, massaging 5 times anti-clock wise nd 5 times clock wise.

This remedy has really worked wonders for me, i can already see small hairs sprouting from my bald spots and other desert areas.
