Second Niger Bridge Construction Begins In Sept - Minister Leadership Editors's picture Mon, 30/04/2012 - 4:21pm | AGENCY REPORT The Minister of Works, Mr Mike Onolememen, says in Abuja on Monday that the construction of the second Niger Bridge will begin in September. Onolememen disclosed this when Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra paid him a courtesy visit in his office. According to him, the procedure for the project began in December 2011 and will involve a hybrid between Public Private Partnership and the usual government contract. The minister said that the concessionaires for the project would soon be announced by the Federal Government. ``In the next three weeks, we would announce the concessioners to handle the project; and by the last quarter of 2012 to 2013, they will move to site to start ground-breaking,’’ he said. The minister said 30 per cent of the project would be funded by the Federal Government while the remaining 70 per cent would be handled by private investors. Onolememen assured the governor that the ongoing Onitsha-Owerri dual carriage way would be completed by 2013. He thanked the governor for his contribution to the completion of critical infrastructure in the South-East zone. The minister commended the state government for the rehabilitation of the Onitsha-Owerri road, an alternative route to the South-East, to ease hardship encountered by motorists. Onolememen pledged the Federal Government’s support for infrastructure development in the state and all parts of the country. Earlier, Obi had commended the Federal Government on road reforms and called for more collaboration with states in roads construction, to enhance social and economic activities in the country. CyberG: If the Odechukwu Retardeen voted in based on tribe by 98% of some part of the country cannot give them their utopia, and in fact will not prosecute the oil thieves from the north, south, east and west of Nigeria; who will action this break-up of Nigeria? Is it when, hopefully, a REAL patriotic leader from another part of the country becomes president that he will break-up the country? Time will tell.CyberG, the vocal coward who peed his pants and was too scared to visit Nigeria, cos a girl on NL threatened him (he even created a thread to ask NLers for advice on his security). What a terrible story and what a remarkable man! It is heartwarming to know that a human can come through such a harrowing experience fit only for dogs, yet succeed so resoundingly in life's journey. He doesn't even look any bit like his 44 years. Very encouraging story about the power of identity. Lesson? We must accept and live who we are or live a brutish life. Xtfield: If the man claims to be a Yoruba man from Ogbomoso, then he must be. And before any one crucifies me, I must say I am Yoruba myself from Ekitiland. All the denials by the Yoruba group in Kano or Ogbomosho people is simply because no one ever claims to be a relation of a mad man. If the suspect had won an Olympic gold medal, the whole Yoruba race and Ogbomoso people would by now be claiming him as one of their own. Now I served in the North (1982-83) precisely in Gumel which was then in Kano State. My first day in Gumel, I went to town to find something to eat and lo and behold, I saw a woman at the motor park selling 'amala'. It turned out she hailed from Ogbomoso but had lived in Gumel for decades. Save for the food she was selling (amala), you cannot recognize her as Yoruba. Then the next day I discovered that some of the ladies in my class (I taught at the Gumel Advanced Teachers' College) were Yorubas whose parents had stayed so many years in Kano they themselves were born in Kano and could not even understand not to talk of speaking Yoruba. In fact but for the fact that they told me themselves, I thought they were Hausas. They spoke Hausa, dressed like Hausas and were moslems. And again they were from Ogbomoso. I have a friend in the Federal Civil service whose parents had lived so long in the Nortn that he claimed Plateau State as his state of origin because his Yoruba family name sounds like a middle Belt name. Of course he speaks Hausa fluently. Same goes for his wife. And again they are from Ogbomoso. The truth is there are so many Ogbomoso indigenes in Northern Nigeria who have stayed there long enough to blend with the local population. and because Ogbomoso people are predominantly moslems and butchers, they fit into the Northern society. And taking about names, most Southern moslems are dropping their family names for strictly moslem names. Names like Bello, Ibrahim, Suleiman are very common as surnames now. As to non-attendance at Yoruba functions in Kano, that does not exclude him from being Yoruba. If his intentions all along was to blend with the Northern people, why does he have to associate with the Yorubas. I said earlier that I am an Ekiti man living in Lagos. I cannot remember attending any Ekiti forum in Lagos in the past 12 years! And certainly not any of my children. Imagine if on the basis of that someone now claims that I am not from Ekiti. Remember that when the dog finds its head immersed in shit, it remembers the house of its owner. The suspect is not a small boy who would not know under interrogation what his real roots are. He is for Ogbomoso in Yorubaland. Having said that, I wish to say that it is unfortunate that an issue as serious as terrorism is being tribalised. which is one of the reasons why we may never win this war. Rather than have a common front against these evil men and women, we are allowing our ethnic colouration to blind us. We have never stopped to consider that the death that these terrorists unleash on innocent people does not kill on the basis of tribe, or religious leaning. Yorubas, Ibos and Hausas have been violently killed. And many more will still be if we do not put ethnicity behind us and form a common front to confront these evil in our land headlong. I rest my case. You have spoken with wisdom, sir. God bless you. The fact is that many NLers are adlolescents or adults who refuse to grow up, freely experience the World and imbibe the kind of wisdom you have displayed here. |
^ Still no excuse for Ibadan to be so dilapidated, tho. |
Ibadan,Great endearing stuff, beauty!
I really loved this poem as a kid; I was in awe at the inventiveness of a man who could paint words so gracefully, beautifully and with such dreamy poignance. Do you know he is Edwin Clarkes younger brother? I was shocked when I learnt that, cos I always assumed he was from Ibadan. Another poet in his class is David Diop: David Diop: Title: Africa |
thanks... Njoy ur night
Next time, find a game like ludo or something to air your stup!dity and ease your hatred. |
nakedall: so Beaf is back from mental checkup!Statements like yours that attack others for no reason are expected from those like you who were born in the gutter. Its mongrel behaviour. |

Dont let me see anoda post from u else u will regret your entire generation. Fool
Is that the best you can do? Why not buy a monkey to display your madness fully in the market? In your fish IQ brain, 50+ years of mismanagement are blaimed on a man who has been at the helm for less than two. Judge for yourself who the fool is between us. Hatred is a killer, bro. Enjoy your winsh thread. Try to attract more winshes, toads, bats, vultures and hyena's like yourself. A man with only egusi soup in his head and an anus for a mouth. ![]() |
^ Self hating crap. You need to declare independence from your brain, sir. It is holding you back. |
Gbawe: Just the reply I expected from a shameless ashewo. Why dance around? Is it because it is 100% proven you are the one shameless reprobate following others around like a homeless mongrel? Dude, grow up. You are not the only user of this forum. Stop derailing threads , up and down, that others are contributing positively to simply because of your obsession with certain posters. It really is pathetic.Oga, Atiku luv'n, lying "progressive." Carry go jare! Nutin do you! Lie on! We, your kids are learning your sad habits. While real progressives swot day and night about strategies to salvage the nation; moral mongrels and chalartans exhale in ecstatic awe at the evil moves of the Atiku's, boko haram and "owners of Nigeria." All blood soaked negative news gets your joyful halelluya. Lets be honest, your lying "progressive." credentials are simply a thin veil for a set of lying thieves to grab the loot in Abuja. Its a red-eyed dash for awuf oil money. ACN? PDP? All the same. O-Liar. |
wake up from iraq my friend and face d reality of present day Nigeria. Man stop dreaming d fools
The topic popped out of your arse, I have never read anything so daft on NL. Many of you think that loud foolishness is a pride. Like I said, GEJ has been there only a couple of years, it takes a really weak and dishonest mind to do what you have. Dishonesty is next to stealing, loose talk and hatred are from the Devil. |
The way people scream and shout these days makes you question their IQ levels. Nigeria sends troops to Guinea Bissau which is whithin of sphere of influence and some clever d.i.ck writes a sermon to mourn! If you hate the country so much, declare your compound or village independent so you can have your happy, dopey insular existence. Pathetic. |
It is hard to come by threads more stup!d than this. So GEJ's two years at the helm (one completing Yar Adua's term and the other, his current term) are what have wrecked Nigeria for 50+ years? There is nothing worse than a liar and a simpleton. GEJ will continue to move this nation forward, while the enemies of Nigeria continue to employ tools like boko haram and O-Lies. Pathetic. |
You did well. A lot of Nigerians are wicked to both fellow Nigerians and to others. Imagine a cleaner asking a patient what was on the floor! Was she not being paid to clean?! ![]() 90% of Nigeria's problems stem from our societal values and attitudes. |
hotwax: When it comes to satelite technology, USA is the leader. As powerful as USA is, why are they not using satelite to track alqaidas? They are able to track them, bro. The drones you've mentioned several times have their guidance and strikes are all conducted with the aid of satellites. |
Gbawe: Ashewo, stop pretending. You are not deceiving anyone and will only make of a fool of yourself the more you talk. Folks now knows your modus-operandi relying on mischief and deciet. Prove what you write above. Show how many times I mentioned Beaf here before my response to Jmaine. Do it Ashewo jati-jati. Anyone can follow the thread to see I was ignoring your m.o.ron.ic self while you kept mention Gbawe obsessivley and seeking attention shamelessly.Lie daddy! Lie! ![]() It entertains we, your kids. |
