I see Aregbesola and Fayemi being removed and serving jail sentences later on this year or early next.

Cable: Shell has infiltrated Nigerian government ministries
By the CNN Wire Staff

Lagos, Nigeria (CNN) -- Royal Dutch Shell has people in "all the relevant ministries" in the Nigerian government and has access to "everything being done in those ministries," according to leaked diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks and posted on the website of the British newspaper The Guardian on Thursday.

An October 2009 cable quotes Ann Pickard, then-executive vice president for Shell companies in Africa, as saying Shell had "good sources." ",  She said the GON (government of Nigeria) had forgoteen that Shell had seconded people to all the relevant ministries and that Shell consequently had access to everything that was being done in those ministries."

Shell, the international oil and gas giant, said Thursday it could not comment on "the alleged contents of the cable, including the correctness or incorrectness of any statements it allegedly contains."

However, Shell spokesman David R.J. Williams said in a statement, "The Guardian's assertion that Shell has somehow infiltrated the government of Nigeria is absolutely untrue, false and misleading."

The Shell representative referenced in the cable has since left Nigeria, the company said. Shell's website shows that Pickard now is the country chair for Shell in Australia and executive vice president of Upstream Australia, "responsible for the exploration, production and gas commercialisation part of Shell's Australian business." Pickard came to Australia in March, according to the website.

The cables also say that Nigeria is considered "the most important country in Africa" because of factors including the size of its population; its oil reserves; its peace-keeping role in the Economic Community of West African States, especially Sierra Leone and Liberia; its seat on the U.N. Security Council; and the strength and size of its financial markets.

"Nigeria has enormous potential and is the seventh-largest Muslim country in the world, with an Islamic population that will eclipse Egypt by 2015," the cable says. "Having no United States presence in northern Nigeria is akin to having no presence in Egypt and is why the United States is considering opening a consulate in Kano," in the north-central part of the country.

"It is possible that Nigeria could be a future Pakistan," according to the cables. "In 25 years, there could be impoverished masses, a wealthy elite and radicalism in the North."

Royal Dutch Shell founded Shell D'Arcy, the first shell company in Nigeria, in 1936, according to Shell's website.

Like I said, you are a functional illiterate - did you read the following statement in your own link?

In a letter dated 31 December 2008, the government directed SPDC and other oil companies to continue with production (and therefore flaring) until instructed otherwise.
During this process of oil extraction the oil fields will be running out of oil, making investments in gas gathering infrastructure less economically attractive. Thus, gas might be flared to the bitter end of oil operations.

Your level of reasoning is abysmal.

FG approves plan for bitumen project
Written by Paschal Okeke, Abuja Wednesday, 22 February 2012

AS part of efforts to create an avenue for the diversification of the nation’s economy, the Federal Government has approved a development plan for the execution of the Bitumen Project.

Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr Musa Mohammed Sada, made the disclosure when he received in audience the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Jean Gauthier, in his office.

The minister noted that “apart from oil and gas, the nation’s minerals and metal sector is being considered as a viable alternative source of revenue generation.

He said government was working towards ensuring that the sources of income for the country were expanded.

Sada explained that the development plan approved by President Goodluck Jonathan called for the actual exploitation of the bitumen resource in the country.

While expressing appreciation for the visit of the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner and the support of the Canadian government towards the development of the nation’s minerals and metal sector, the minister said his ministry was hopeful of further assistance on how to move the nation’s bitumen project forward.

He further stated that three Canadian mining companies had already indicated interest in developing the bitumen project in Nigeria, adding that the forthcoming International Mining Convention under the auspices of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) in Toronto, Canada would provide the opportunity to showcase the investment potentials in the Nigeria’s minerals and metal sector to attract foreign investors.

Earlier in his remarks, the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner said the purpose for the visit was to foster collaboration with the Nigerian government for the development of its minerals and metal sector.

He said “what the ministry needs is to bring in one credible investor who will make other investors look around and come to Nigeria.”

You have said everything that needs to be said on this topic and I am 100% with you. At the end of the day Shell is just a profit seeking business, Nigeria is not. This is why we need to wake up and protect ourselves from these companies while recognizing their right to operate if they play be the rules.
Thank you jare! half the people arguing for Shell like colonial slaves have probably never heard the phrase, "Corporate Civic Responsibility." Its something they can easily google.

The same Shell that has been uncompromisingly flaring gas for decades has suddenly changed tack to wnat to invest in gas instead, yet many of us don't see the greasy levels of hypocrisy and usery.

By some miracle, Shell has now even described gas flaring in Nigeria as "primitive!" Can you beat such a greed inspired about turn? Yet our people think it is ok for a company to behave like our country is a prost!tute, while having no responsibilities to the lands they have polluted and society they have corrupted ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/dec/08/wikileaks-cables-shell-nigeria-spying ).

NB: don't blame subsidy cos if the refineries were working the subsidy issue would not arise
Guy, please act smarter and do not pretend not to be too blind to totally understand these lines:

Nigeria is a capitalist country, not a communist one. Surely, you understand the difference?
It is for the likes of Oando who account for about 53% of subsidy payments to build refineries in a capitalist democracy like ours.

Lastly, we are on a ship thats inexorably headed for true federalism; so the govt cannot do any stup!d investments that are meant for the private sector. Such investments will only keep the current anti-people system in place.
Dude, ask Oando and its likes to build refineries, it is not the place for a capitalist democracy to do so (without a profit making vehicle); except it plans to remain heavily over- centralised. Common sense, bruv.

When NNPC is broken up in the future (bringing us yet closer to true federalism), you can ask the govt to build refineries. Right now, NNPC is no more than a wayward contraption that like Shell, has to be wrestled to the floor and given a black eye.
After reading them again (especially the bolded), you will find that your question is really up in the air.

But maybe, you will come up with more spurious question's for the fun of it (like the clowns, Crap 28, debosky and kobojunkie). Maybe one of you will tell us next that Shell has every right to flare natural gas, because it is not in their economic interest even though 40% of our gas is flared at a loss of $2.5billion per year to Nigeria. This is aside from flaring heavily polluting the atmosphere and causing a plethora of ill effects from respiratory diseases to cancer and acid rain.

It is easy to be a mental slave and licker of white arse.

I have brought the gas flaring issue, because all this time that we have asked them to stop flaring, they have chosen to continue. But suddenly after Nigeria has done its math and put its future in gas instead of oil, Shell has suddenly decided that they are now more interested in harnessing gas than drilling for oil and building a refinery. They have done this because they see govts investments in building up the gas sector (biggest industrial park in Africa, fertilizer plants etc) and suddenly realise the stup!dity of their gas flaring position; the gas market is several times bigger than oil would ever have been.
The quote below is from the same article, read it and tell me why those with your position ain't being played for fools:

According to him, Shell would continue to invest in the development of the gas sector, adding: “I do believe that investment in the downstream sector, especially gas sector in Nigeria, as I touched on, is very important.

“Nigeria has huge resources of gas that have yet to be unlocked and the potential to add to that gas not only in power but in other ways in the country.

“I think there are a lot of opportunities for Nigeria and for Shell in Nigeria and the potential much more than to consider refining.’’
A country sets the agenda for business within its borders, those that do not like the agenda can pack up and leave. cool
Their position is driven by greed, ours is driven by need.
They want your money all the time and yet some of you wish to be phucked by them all the time.

As for NNPC, I am tired of explaining to NLers how that works. It was never set up to build refineries, rather, it was set up to make the pillaging and exploitation of Nigeria by the likes of Shell smooth and easy.

NNPC is due to be broken up like PHCN. Hopefully, that will begin to happen this year or next. One of the resulting companies will be a true oil company that is built to make profits (not run on subsidies), that company will be able to compete with the likes of Shell and even go drill oil and build refineries in foreign countries like any real oil company can do.

We have had oil for half a century, but we have laid back to be milked and ra'ped by foreigners. Until recently, we had to go to the likes of Shell to tell us how much oil we had drilled for the day.

Nigeria can only look out for her interest, which at this point is more refineries. If we are making it part of the rules for oil majors in the PIB, then Shell had better get used to it now or leave.

For those singing about Indian companies building refineries in India, they should go sing the same tune to the likes of Oando, who are only interested in collecting subsidies and so will only benefit if we keep importing fuel (which is the deal the #Occupy clowns fought for).

Bang on point!
We didn't get where we are today by accident. It is what decades of foreign exploition in collution with corrupt govts has wrought on us. Why anyone would go out on a limb to exonorate Shell while selling their own kids is at best, a mystery.

The decades of error have to be erased, and its got to start now. That the govt has neglected our refining capacity through the decades is a totally different kettle of fish from asking the biggest oil operators to add refining to their business. That will only ensure that all players have a full chain from production to finished goods, which is what sets developing countries apart from developed ones.

Any firm that feels it cannot deliver a full chain is not fit to drill oil or do other business with us. The full chain is a requirement in the PIB that we must enforce.

i love your ambition but i can authoritatively tell you that shell is not directly responsible for the spill in the delta, if you dont understand, you ask people in pipeline operations to tell you exactly who is culpable.

the last time a shell pipeline exploded on its own causing spill was more than 5yrs ago, we recorded cases of leaking well heads which is inconsequential to the Bp example you gave above.

shell runs an integrated pipeline integrity assesment every month with one of the best contractors in the world, these contractors have the most advanced intelligent tools that scans those pipelines on 5 yr basis while cleaning and cathodic protection contractors work on monthly basis runing pigging tools, chemical injection and cathodic protection.

shell uses Rosen and TDW for pipeline intelligent inspection while they employ Nalco chemicals for corrosion control, these contractors are very reputable in europe and america and they do a very good job for shell.

what else do you want?

when mend blows up a 24" pipeline transporting 40,000bbls of crude daily, what do you expect? rhe crude will disappear?

sail through, ekulama 1 to odioma, awoba, krakamar, bile and belema and see what "kpo fire" boys are doing in connivance with jtf, tomorrow, you expect shell to clean it for you?

nonsense!!!!!
The worst thing any man can be is a slave in his own mind. That is what you are.

If Ekiti is so bankrupt, why was Delta sending their invalids to Ekiti to get  free Education?
