PhonesWhy Meta AI Is Dangerous by Bebigiby1(op): 12:05am On Apr 22, 2024
Artificial intelligence, is the simulation of human intelligence in machines to take decisions, solve problems and perform tasks that would typically require human intelligence. In the past few days, Meta (Facebook) release its powerful AI tool (Llama 3) on WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook without any option to turn it off. Since it’s release, there have been several posts on social media over it’s use against people by malicious political actors creating fake contents and spreading propaganda. Due to the addictive and manipulative nature of this technology, (See https://www.nairaland.com/8067071/why-ai-artificial-intelligence-bad) I want to use this medium to appeal to parents to be vigilant and protect their kids, teenagers on how they use and are exposed to this tech, especially on WhatsApp. Nigerian government needs to compel Meta to provide AI parental controls and the ability for its users to turn it off….

The OP and all those using this manipulative technology may get addicted to it overtime relying on it for the most basic tasks, believing it’s content as fact without doing their own research…. It is glaring that as humans, we are now at the lowest point of our existence, government needs to implement policies to curtail the impact of this technology, people need to push for a stop in the development of AI technology…. Seem it is also on Instagram as well, in my opinion users should’ve a choice, it is inappropriate to release this feature without providing an off button to deactivate it, Meta’s aggressive push of their AI model without considering user’s preferences on their social platforms may hurt their business model as this action will force many users to uninstall their social apps….

It's now on WhatsApp and Facebook quite interesting though.

The AI revolution can be stopped if collectively deliberate effort is made to reduce AI adoption through government policies and communal collaboration…. It is a matter of choice…. We are gradually destroying our societies and humanity through massive adoption of AI technology….
PoliticsRe: Why AI (Artificial Intelligence) Is Bad For Nigeria And The World by Bebigiby1(op):
Asking people not to be concerned about AI is wrong as it is akin to someone after creating a weapon of mass destruction, he offers it to the target to fine tune it for him which he will eventually use to kill the target…. The fact that current mainstream AI may not be sentient doesn’t mean it won’t eventually become sentient overtime because mass adoption and usage by billions of people will fast track it.

Also you said AI revolution is unstoppable I disagree because what is central behind its surge is massive user adoption. If more people are aware of its danger and the inevitability of its addiction down the line then maybe many people will stop or minimize it’s usage which will stop its development as big tech companies are driven by user engagements and user data. It’s a choice that each of us have to make to collectively change the tide and stop AI revolution.

Personally, I am a proponent of human driven technological advancements. Not all tech is good for humans just like not all elements in nature is good for humans, for example, putting your hand in fire will burn it. Technologies like bots are not bad because it is simply a script program controlled by a human and setup to perform specific repetitive tasks but AI (Machine Learning) algorithmic systems that seeks to behave like humans, take decisions and do human tasks better is a direct threat to humans and should not be encouraged. Just like the earlier scenario regarding fire, not every technology is good for humans. Once you create something that you can’t control and is better than you then you’re obsolete and a threat to your creation…. The AI will thrive due to humans flawed insatiable quest for comfort and getting things done easy and fast which will affect humans creative and productive abilities…. Eventually humans won’t be able to function or take decisions without AI.

As I said earlier the AI revolution can be stopped if collectively deliberate effort is made to reduce AI adoption through government policies and communal collaboration…. It is a matter of choice…. We are gradually destroying our societies and humanity through massive adoption of AI technology….

Also worldwide impact of AI is eminent as Meta has officially rolled out it’s powerful AI on WhatsApp for free with no option to turn it off…. just install the latest version of WhatsApp and its there. With over 2 billion WhatsApp users, the fact that a user can’t turn off this AI on such a popular service like WhatsApp is glaringly deliberate to force a massive adoption of Meta AI on unsuspecting users and compel users to train the AI model overtime. This powerful AI will eventually take over many human jobs, create economic and social societal crisis all over the world due to massive adoption by its users…. It is not just a case of Nigeria as humanity must decide on how to contend with this powerful pervasive technology before it is too late….

PoliticsWhy AI (Artificial Intelligence) Is Bad For Nigeria And The World by Bebigiby1(op):
With the recent government policies and push to foster AI solutions implementation, advancing partnerships with Meta (Facebook), Google, OpenAI ChatGPT and other big tech companies to incorporate AI tools into local public and private Nigerian frameworks, it is important to highlight the dangers of this fast emerging technology to Nigeria’s economy and humanity at large.

What is AI
According to Coursera, Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to computer systems capable of performing complex tasks that historically only a human could do, such as reasoning, making decisions, or solving problems.

Based on the definition above, it is certain that the primary objective of AI is a direct threat to humans abilities and creativity as it seeks to do what human do better thereby seducing and forcing human total reliance on it. With the fast deployment of AI on popular online services around the world by key greedy actors like OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft and Google who’s greedy CEOs only care about their shareholders selfish profit drives, the world’s economy is about to be enslaved by advanced AI systems as more government and people embrace the use of these AI systems like ChatGPT. For third world countries like Nigeria, this will mean massive job losses, massive brain drain, massive drop in human productivity through pervasive laziness, empowering big tech firms and advancing monopolistic capitalism….

Apart from the economic implications of AI, there are also societal and social consequences. It is obvious that AI is a powerful tool that can easily be abused or misused. In general, AI and learning algorithms extrapolate from the data they are given. If the designers deliberately do not provide representative data, the resulting AI systems become biased and unfair. Also, corrupt and oppressive governments can deploy AI to advance totalitarian anti people policies, silence critics and abuse people’s rights.

For example, if you train a human detection AI algorithm and only show the algorithm images of people with blonde hair, that system may fail to recognize a user with brown hair (e.g., brown hair = not a human). In practice, rushed applications of AI have resulted in systems with racial and gender biases. The bad of AI is a technology that does not treat all users the same.

It is no longer hidden that we are already facing the negative effects of AI in our society. For example, take recommendation algorithms for streaming and video, search services: the types of shows or Youtube videos you see are influenced by the shows or videos recommended to you by an artificial agent (AI). Today's advanced AI systems influence human decision making at multiple levels: from viewing habits to purchasing decisions, from political opinions to social values. To say that the consequences of AI is a problem for future generations ignores the reality in front of us. Our everyday lives are already being influenced and manipulated. Artificial Intelligence in its current state is largely unregulated and unfettered. Big tech companies and government institutions are free to develop algorithms that maximize their profit, their engagement, their impact and political influence. I don't worry about some dystopian future; I worry about the reality we have right now, and how we integrate the powerful possibilities of artificial intelligence into human-centered systems. For example, the ability to generate fake content with AI systems has significant potential to cause harm to humans. This is currently a major problem in politics already where disinformation is rampant. This can lead to legal problems where innocent people are accused of crimes or guilty people are cleared. It could also lead to financial problems like massive fraud, hacking and extortion. There are many other ways AI could cause harm to society, and I think many of them are still unknown. It will absolutely affect how we consume digital content, and if allowed to continue will harm human ability to trust what is real in the digital world.

It is true that there are profound benefits to AI in solving complex problems or simplifying tasks but these benefits are superficial to the long term negative consequences of AI to Nigeria’s economy, worldwide economy, social advancement and human values. AI is a threat to humans and this is just the beginning…. Government must implement policies to checkmate the selfish drives of big tech, people must educate themselves on the dangers of over reliance on AI systems and the importance of fostering human creativity and productivity…. It is glaring that the recent advancement of AI systems will continue by big tech companies drive to incorporate it in every aspect of our lives but the final deciding factor that will determine the future of these AI systems will be humanity’s choice to use it, depend on it and be enslaved by it….. it is not too late to turn the tide…..

PoliticsHow Nigerian Newspapers Glorify Terrorists by Bebigiby1(op): 6:54am On Mar 23, 2024
It is indeed shameful that Nigerian newspapers lack the integrity to report objectively by calling blood tasty gunmen in the north bandits instead of terrorists…. This singular act in the choice of words used by Nigerian news media is clearly a calculated attempt to whitewash the terrible situation and insecurity going on especially in the northern part of the country. It is indeed a betrayal to the victims of terrorism and a verdict that corruption has eaten deep into Nigerian journalism. The obvious lie on the pages of newspapers calling the notorious gun men bandits each time they strike and the deceit will only encourage the terrorist sponsors to continue. Many journalists have become complacent and indirectly terrorist enablers….

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Needs Restructuring With Proper Foundation — Tinubu by Bebigiby1:
Again you’ve my vote…. Well said and thank you! smiley

In my opinion Tinubu is a pretender he is only paying lip service to the issue…. If truly he cared about restructuring why did he not push for restructuring over the Fulani mass killings during Buhari’s regime. Was he not the APC national leader? That was the right time to push for restructuring of the country….

J3susFr3ak:
Lexi dude....

I am sure deep down in your heart, you are totally for some type of Restructuring. Now, here, even Tinubu is saying that he is also for Restructuring. Are you not willing to put aside some of your hang-ups and differences and at least meet with him half way there?

That dude you call Buhari was a wolf in sheep's clothing. He also pretended to play nice until he had total access to Federal Powers.

What did he do? He unleashed his dogs and wolves all over the nation to kill indigenous Nigerians to make roo for some Fula enclave.

Tinubu does not have a Yoruba expansionist agenda. Buhari did and like his ilk, still does.

I am sure what most Yorubas, Igbos and Southerners want (including Christian MB folk) is a level playing ground to conduct their businesses all over the country failry, and make a decent living.

Those with expansionist agendas do not see through that lens. Firm Regional Structures and systems puts a halt to any type of blood thirsty expansionist agendas as was seen callously wielded by a Buhari and still nursed by people from Sharia lands.

Giving too much Federal Power to a place like Abuja makes it all too easy to carry out this agenda aggressively because of the evil multiplier effects a twisted unitray system enforces.

Creating Regions with some equal weights of power checks the types of nonsense puked out of a Abuja by expansionists.

Tinubu is not an expasionsist by my observations so far. But he had to also play nice with a blood thirsty tyrant like Buhari who has no qualms offing countless innocents using Federal tools.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Needs Restructuring With Proper Foundation — Tinubu by Bebigiby1: 6:45pm On Mar 05, 2024
Spot on! I agree with the points you made…. As I’ve said on several threads and continue to post…. To salvage Nigeria….. Restructuring the country’s economic and political landscape to empower states/regions is inevitable…. Indeed you’ve made a compelling opinion….

J3susFr3ak:
Those are mere political statements Mr. Lexi. Even you should know that. If you're a lawyer and the stern biased Judge glares at you and say "Look at me funny again and I will throw you and your client out of my court to jail! "
That unequal balance of power in those situations forces you to take temporary positions in lieu of a broader objective.

That being said...

The major ethnic groups exist in a tight high voltage tension especially regarding who ultimately controls the massive oil revenues got both on and especially off shore. Today, politics and its shenanigans are one means by which these large ethnic groups fight to negotiate who gets that spoil. Talks about Regionalsm and fiscal Federalism is seen as testy and sensitive by those most bound to lose.

I suppose the fact that the type of self enriching and corrupt capitalism that evolved in the country since the 60s had not produced export oriented corporations utilizing local resources from the various regions that can be seen as dollar earning alternatives to the oil cos but rather created opportunistic people and entities out to ravish the little morsels falling down from the political largesse table... says a lot about how dire the situation is right now.

OK. From a MIddle Belter's view....foundational steps in Restructuring starts from resolving core security issues. Each State and Region must control its own internal security. We do not want the Federal Military used as a tool by a small population segment to circumvent the internal security structures of a state or region and its values in order to commit gross crimes and economic sabotage.

The Federal Military has no right to enter a Region or State except expressly invited in by the State Governor. What we have now are Federal soldiers being used as ethnic cleansing tools.

States grouped into regions has to make economic sense. Nigerians need to be educated on how they can honestly tap into the dominant resources in their areas and assisted in not just its production but also exportation as well. Banks and Government resources need to actively assist those type of producers and not just greedily fixate on short term gains from currency and commodity price speculations. One of my grand fathers in the 1950's and 60s was mining and exporting tin to the international markets because the colonial government actively encouraged that right until the Nigerian Government took over everything and ran everything to the ground. I am certain not many Nigerians oday know how to create a legal production oriented company for the exports market,

Using the 6 geo political zones as a basis for future regions is a bit lacking especially when the North Central Zone alone is larger than all the southern zones combined. There is no historical connection between a Kwara or Niger with Plateau for instance. That zone needs to be divided into two economically cohesive regions given its diversity.

Physical political boundaries even within the country needs to be strictly defined. People should know what is acceptable in one jurisdiction and illegal in another. This way you do not have an abused centralized system like we do now where any Tom Dick and Harry can use Federal connections to Abuja to abuse the sensibilities of local systems.

In a Restructured Economic landscape, each place can now define what their internal markets should look like. They can choose to revoke or forbid a Dangote from supplying certain items and choose to give licenses to their own preferred companies or protect their own production base.

Each region should have its own dominant Central Bank where the effort of their own economic output as reflected in their own dollar reserves reveals how serious or unserious they have chosen to become.

Well said but two wrongs don’t make a right…. Whatever that happened in the past doesn’t mean that current generation of Igbos should continue to be marginalized or despised by other tribes…. It is time we look ahead and stop dwelling in the past…. if going back to the Federalism structure will ensure peace and prosperity then let all tribes push for it… the blame game over what happened in the 60s will not put food on anyone’s table or change Nigeria’s terrible economic realities….

Babinski:
Permit me to educate you on the following:

1. The first military Head of State in Nigeria (Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi) was an Igbo man who was brought into power through a Coup d'etat spearheaded by Igbo men. President Azikiwe, an Igbo man was conveniently absent and refused to pressure or dissuade the military, thus allowing the acting President (i.e. Senate President Nwafor Orizu), another Igbo man to officially handover power to Ironsi and thereby truncate the First Nigerian Republic.

2. Aguiyi Ironsi not only failed to punish the coup plotters but went ahead to promulgate the now-infamous "Decree No. 34", which abrogated the country's Federal structure and replaced it with a Unitary one that made the center so powerful at the detriment of the States and Regions.

Igbos not only created the resentment and provocations that led to the 1966 Civil War but also plunged Nigeria into the bad Unitary structure and the killing of Federalism that we are battling with till today.

If we talk about restructuring, it is more or less about going back to the Federalism structure and good old days that Aguiyi Ironsi and his kinsmen killed decades ago.
