Education / Re: Fake Degree: “I’m Worried Over My Safety”, Says Undercover Journalist, Umar Audu by beecrofty(m): 1:50am On Jan 07
Masterchef:
Where's the journalism here before talking of investigative journalism? Shior!!!!

The guy infact engaged in a crime and could have landed himself in jail if he had fallen in the hands of undercover law enforcement agents.

I mean, how does this story compare to the many investigative journalism videos on West Africa that we have watched on foreign media stations.

You don't investigate a crime in Cotonou while sitting in your house in Maiduguri or Ibadan nah!. It's so unprofessional.

No videos. No recorded telephone conversations. Rather, he used his real names and of course posted his own pictures in what's supposed to be an undercover stuff. I'm sure he must have also used his real telephone numbers. How funny 😄

To make matters worse, this guy did not even intimate his employers, the likes of BBC nor the national security agency in charge before obtaining his undercover certificate. So, he used his hard earned salary to investigate for who and to what end? What if the other guys had asked for say additional N1m and he got scammed while doing this?

This case is at best lazy journalism and an attempt at cheap popularity!!!

My sentiments exactly. I believe the guy genuinely bought the certificate and went through NYSC, probably was caught and decided to call it investigative journalism. I mean, he's not a police officer. He never wrote a piece about the whole process. He didn't even obtain names of people who did stuff. No videos, no pictures, no recordings. He even went as far as spending that whole time doing NYSC. What was the aim of this whole drama.

For those who have travelled. Pls
1. will there be trolleys available at the luggage carousel? (because my load plenty). Or I have to walk out to find one?
2. Is it free?
3. If not how much coin should I take with me ?
P.s I’m landing in Manchester

I had about 350kg luggage. landed at Heathrow, Free trolleys (used 3), the big trolley that could push everything at once costs 30gbp. I do not have an idea if Manchester is the same way

Pls how exactly does one make a straightforward application? What documents did you include in your application from A to Z? Kindly guide me. Thanks

To make your application straightforward, DO NOT submit unnecessary documents. From my point of view, all those CV, pictures, fathers history, cover letter etc are not necessary unless requested.

Documents i submitted are:
TB
Police cert
Passport
IELTS

For spouse and kids:
Marriage cert
TB
Police cert
birth cert for kids
Passports
Letter of consent for kids (signed by both parents)

just walk to the post office in your town center where you want to receive it and tell them what u want. They will request for your passport and brp letter, and you will pay. It usually takes 7 working days or so. To arrive.

Thank you so much. I have been worrying about this for a while.

Lucky you. Was it Lagos or Abuja?

Lagos. I tried as much as possible to make it a straightforward application.
For those always wondering, you do not need to submit a copy of your COS. I didn't submit mine. Neither did I submit my offer letter or anything, only the things on my checklist.

Response has been slow since around late June. Possibly due to the large number of applications. Lots of applications hanging at DMC.
Keep the hope alive…

Mine was fast, felt like I did priority.
A month later, my family also submitted and it was just as fast. about 7 business days, though it felt like 7 business years! grin

Quick question house.
How does one request BRP be redirected from one place to the other.. I mean like from a city such as Bournemouth to Manchester. Going all the way there seems like a tedious task.

Travel / Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by beecrofty(m): 12:17pm On May 02, 2023
bigtt76:
I started preparing for this long before I filled out my first application to the university. I followed every thread relating to studying and living in the UK, discussions online relating to how to survive as a student and transition from being one.

On arrival in the UK I needed a bank card to kickstart my activities, my first was Monese and they delivered within 4 days. Next I opened Revolut cos it was a popular option and they too delivered within same period. Monzo had bounced me because of this credit score check and Starling bank stalled (funny enough conventional banks also check when trying to open an account with them). I got all my cards where I was temporarily staying.

During the same period, I enrolled to vote, applied for my provisional driving license (required as proof of address in place of utility bills). Next I applied for my NI and started life. I also opened a conventional bank account during this period.

I stumbled on the AMEX card referral link here and applied, it kept bouncing and requesting for my documents (BRP, Passport and liveliness check). Then one day I got a call and boom it was approved and I got my card delivered.

Along the line I also got bounced by several landlords on the pretence that I don't have credit history and that was when I got the ginger to start Loqbox. I finally secured my student accommodation and contract SIM card which I placed on direct debit and standing order. Then I applied to start reporting my rent using Credit Ladder and Loqbox.

I gained a lot of insight from this thread and the other one for students. I remain grateful to all here and my advise to those new and those thinking of making the move over here to hit road with their financial planning immediately on arrival, no waste time be intentional about your plans. I know a lot of my mates here (and those who came here before me) that haven't registered to be on electoral roll, applied for a provisional license and or start building their credit history because they don't know the process or never thought of it or afraid of anything credit. 😂

Just to add, when I moved I also applied to change my addresses on the drivers license and my bank accounts. It was seamless. I used Royal Mail to redirect my mails from where I previously lived to my new place.

Shalom... Don't forget to use my referral links so I get small bonus 😘😘😘

Because you took the time to explain this and make it clear to me, I am going to use your referral. Let me save it now.

You are currently invisible to all lenders and some financial institutions cheesy ...I'm not a financial analyst or adviser but this below are what helped me. I got my CC two weeks on arrival

Question
a. Is your rent paid by bank transfer directly to the landlord's account? If yes, try setting up a standing order to execute same time every month
b. How is your council tax or utility bills paid? Do you have Direct Debit set up on your account to debit it every month? Direct debits are reported to credit bureaus
c. Look for Contract-SIM from any of the mobile networks (I use Virgin mobile) and port your current line to them, use direct debit to pay for this monthly. To call home you can use cheap call cards available in Tescos or ASDA etc
d. Have you been registered to be on the UK electoral roll?

Try the following

1. Try and open an online bank account like Monese that report to credit bureau your transactions (sign up with my referral Join Monese and get up to £10 once you start spending! Just enter my invite code when you sign up: TEMIT966 Download the app here: https://www.mone.se/7vQs/15nzw5kg). NOTE - you can try any other as far as they report your transactions

2. Create a standing order for your monthly rent and other utility bills and use the following to report your rent payment to report the rent payment to credit agencies.
2a. credit ladder sign up using my referral https://www.creditladder.co.uk/join/4kN2nMj0DmjpABDL),
2b. loqbox (sign up using my link https://www.loqbox.com/en_gb/loqbox-invite?referral_code=SZJ9DXFXHX&referral_channel=link)
3. Try not to open too many bank accounts (are your accounts online banks or conventional banks) or close any already opened
4. You should sign up to Experian (or Totally Money) credit score platform and they have a 30 days trial with which you can use to guide and boost your scores

Forgive my inquisitive and cnfused mind but HOW did you do all these within two weeks of arrival?

Egypt? From abuja I guess? Be ready for long layover at Cairo. They will lodge u guys at a hotel in cairo maybe Le passage or any other. You might be paired in the rooms or not. Shine ur eyes to collect evidence to prove they are holding ur passport. You might miss ur flight if ur not smart enough to identify people u flew with and walk with them. Its not worth it. Their inflight meal is something else lol. They will give u guys one Aba earphone like that and you will definitely throw it away when disembarking. Abeg find another airline jare.

I have flown Egyptair more than 10 times and I like them, never had to endure their long layovers... but Layovers aren't always stressful though unless you're not allowed entry. I think most of these African airlines send the worst of their planes to Nigeria.

Most times, I just get on the flight, ask for beer, drink, and sleep or try to watch movies all through the trip so I don't experience anything... I make sure to book the window seat before getting to the airport

Very valid in my opinion too.
I started this journey because I've been on the same salary of less than 200k for almost 14years.
My husband has no job and i've been married for 8yrs with 3 kids.
It's been good but a struggle having to manage the salary, not being able to send your kids to good school e.t.c.
customer care work is not such a good field in 9ja as some of us know.

I am hopeful that this is a good move for me and my family.
And we will take it one step at a time.

Ha! First, it is really absurd that a company will pay a staff member the same salary for over 14 years.

You should know this is a good move for you because how do you survive with 3 kids and less than 200k monthly in this NIGERIA? The inflation has been crazy and salary remains meagre.

You have made the best move by planning to relocate because your situation can and will mess with your mental well-being somewhere along the line if the situation doesn't change.

Nobody knows likely questions they might ask you. The major thing is to know what your job description is. Know everything you have mentioned while applying for the visa.

All the POE officer is going to try to establish is that you were sincere in your job search and recruitment process.

So India has the highest number of doctors in UK and they are not banned like Pakistan and Nigeria.

Either Indian health infrastructure is much better than 54 red list country or Indians might have influenced Uk P.M .

But as the red list is maintained by WHO , I tend to believe Indians have much better infrastructure or else why would many countries citizens would go there for cheaper treatment.

You answered your own question in your second paragraph. People flock to India for healthcare treatments. They are not on the list because they have enough competent doctors and the healthcare sector is functioning as it should. The problem with the Nigerian health sector is not the doctors leaving, it is the miserly pay plus the =inhumane working conditions. Have you been to the hospital lately?
