Odunharry:Gbam! The economy was overheating at that point. It was at that point that Cardoso felt the need to do CPI rebasing. And kept hiking MPR. The funny thing is, we weren't seeing results as FX was threatening to spiral out of control. Cardoso had to double down by rebasing the GDP and refused to cut MPR. People on this thread were happy for high MMF rates and Tbills rates. I was just laughing and thinking, only if they knew the sleepless night Cardoso was having. Now suddenly, Inflation began to drop It all seem like a sleight of hand to me because, personally, what I think is happening is: Strip out the rebasing, Nigeria inflation is still very much high. Now Inflation numbers has been coming down because we now exiting the rainning season when there is abundance of food. Now strip away food inflation and let's focus on core inflation. You will realize the fear in Cardoso's mind which is why he refused to cut rate in the last MPC meeting. Our economy is very fragile. |
Odunharry:No one said, Tbills was doing 30% sir. Re-read again, then you will see a different meaning to it. If Tbills was doing 30%, that means the economy is overheating. |
I'm Donbrig:Nigeria MMF is an equivalent of U.S Blue Chip Stocks ETF investment. The people really milking the best out of it are people looking to hide their massive loot, political exposed people and foreign investors who has root in Nigeria. The most I study Nigeria capital market, the more it's clear to me that, it's an incestrual relationship between the government and the banks. |
To some extent food prices has gone down or don't go up as fast as it use too. So that amount will cover those |
ipobcannibals:Let me shock you. Do you know you don't get REAL YIELD from T.Bills regardless of the bank you buy from? If I am lying about this. Check FMDQ to know that only banks enjoy Tbills real yield and they only increase returns for you to buy when bank liquidity is tight. CBN cutting rate or not doesn't move them. Auction is just like playful bazaar to them. Now I am telling you this because, MMF is really where you enjoy from all sides without locking up your money for so long. You have to be liquid with cash to shop around. Banks knows this, that's why they bait and hook you with Tbills yield, then turn around to use that same money to invest in their own Tbills or OMO for higher yield. Your money is gone for one year. See more in my recent video on YTube. |
Creditalerts:I just posted a video on YouTube why some MMF earns better than others. Check it out. |
suckprick:In your earliest post, I saw you quoted 100M to invest. I would advise you spread your investment into Tbills and MMF to enjoy both privileges. Lock 30% in Tbills when Tbills rate is high and Invest 50% in a MMF of choice permanently. Always Use 10% to shop around different MMF offering the best rate after 30 days. Lastly, Invest the remaining 10% in a balanced Mutual funds that has both stocks and bonds. If you follow this strategy, whether rates are poor or not, you will always smile because your financial power (investment volume) is making you enjoy good returns from all sides. (Tbills, MMFs, Stocks and Bond) For more insight, see my YouTube channel down |
IamtheDef:it only means, their funds managers are working tirelessly. Good job to them. |
Sirchiboy:Glad to have you here with us after rocking the first page of nairaland with your wonderful stories. MMF rate isn't all that fixed for anyone to tell you exact accrued yield by month end however, it can be estimated but not exactly. Reason being that; Rates changes every day and rates changes everyday because some MMF is lazy and some are proactive. The proactive guys keep their rates high and the lazy once see their rates decline. I have a YouTube video explaining this, it will soon drop. Welcome to MMF, one thing is sure, your money is safe. |
emmasoft:This means people are now free to shop around for sweet rates. Impressive. FMDQ and CBN websites will be getting more traffic than usual starting next year, people who are shopping for rates no go let those website rest. |
SarkinYarki:Not true, instead it will take the pressure off naira. Fare cost being expensive should be as a result of other market forces, Not because Naira dollar FX. We need to grow the Naira too. Looking to comprehend how Nigeria economy affects your pocket and making smart financial moves, I got you covered, take a look below here 👇 |

Your question is not so straight forward but I will pitch in to see if it it will make sense to you. You a business man and should always realize business is a risk, no matter the experience you have had doing the business. The market will punish you if don't do your due diligence and it will also reward you if you do your due diligence. Lastly, The forces of demand and supply is always influenced by so many factors that when you begin to consider all, you won't want to take the risk to do the business. Anyways, If your merchandise is perishable, learn to stock limited goods and invest the remaining capital in a low risk investment, you can enjoy the yield from that investment while the market correct itself in terms of price action, after which you can withdraw your money and restock. However, if your goods isn't perishable and prices are against your cost price and you are estimated to loose money because you bought a lot of goods. That's a tough one, I don't know what to say, considering the fact that you need money to continue to run the business. Maybe you sell at the newly adjusted price quickly, cut your loss otherwise it will go down even more. Again, you have limited power in the market, there is a good day and there is a bad day.
