Alright, chief. Oil has been skyrocketing for weeks now; I might dive into the oil ETF I told you yesterday to take some profit and head out once the war cools down.
You just can't let it goooo eventhough you are late comer to that ETF (state Street Energy right)?

😂😂😂😂😂

Proceed with caution but keep an eye on the news and oil market after you buy in.

Even if it crashes in the future, you can still be enjoying dividend while holding on to it.

He got pissed because I told a retiree not to dive into equity funds. As rewarding as it might be in the long run, I will never even allow my parents to invest in it except for stocks and MMF; even fixed income is a no-go area. I will keep blocking him until Nairaland ceases to exist.
Boss, abeg, let's squash this.

@Beeron, I wrote about SFSREIT to buttress my earlier post on alternatives to mainstream investment windows. It's just to show that an alternative does exist to owning a physical property, not investment advice nor advertisement; investors are to always do their due diligence, which agrees with the industry standard.
No issues Chief but always include full disclosure such as the pros and cons because people follow you and rely on you for some key finance information.

I was highly disappointed seeing that post without no full disclosure.

Good morning
Pls how does equity work can I loss all my money, the money is for survival of retired woman to be getting something monthly on it.I want to invest the 5m for her but want to know if it worth trying. Note I have been doing MMF and Tbill just want her to earn more as thing s are expensive
The very fact that you seeking information on how Equity work has ruled out why you shouldn't invest a retiree money into Equity because of insufficient knowledge you have about the investment.

That said; Retirees should never come near investment like Equity or stocks no matter the mood or regime of the market. I still have a feeling that pension fund will regret the decision to be allowed to invest part of their fund into stocks.

No matter how you see it; and the experiment has been carried out time and time again; Stocks or crypto investment is a bubble, it will eventually burst at some point and the market will reset itself again and new investors enter the market.

A retiree doesn't have that luxury of time to wait out the market nor do they have that extra cash to do Naira/dollar cost averaging.

Simply put, when the bubble bust at some point and all stocks are down in the Equity fund, what do you want the retiree to do?

Will she not continue to be managing the little income from she gets from fixed income investment like MMF?

The best investment strategy for older folks is compounding in fixed income type investment like MMF and Bond fund, if Equity should be considered, probably 10% of capital they are willing to lose if the bubble burst.

Fine, MMF and Bond fund don't beat inflation sometimes but, retiree are trying preserving wealth not trying to actively accumulate wealth.

If you have 5 million, Invest 4 million into MMF, 1 million into Equity, whatever returns equity brings in a month (don't withdraw) but mentally or on paper, it will be added to the predictable returns from MMF. Now, something like a balanced portfolio. That returns from Equity will then be withdrawn only when she has an emergency to deal with but don't want to touch MMF investment money.

I see SFSREIT being advertised on here, BE VERY CAREFUL to invest in that.

It's isn't about going into the market, Question you should ask yourself is: can you freely exit when you need money?

SFSREIT is not liquid enough.

Be very careful.

I didn't buy gold, bro. I bought silver instead, and it's kind of doing well. Check this oil ETF, is it a good buy, the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF? "I was the one advising my friend, lol."
This one you wish to get information about looks so overbought, people massively began buying this stock even before the war broke out.

I won't advise you to go in as you will be catching a falling knife if one of the following happens:

1 - oil price crash back to 70 or 80 dollar per barrel.

2 - Trumps reached a truce with Iran.

3 - Trump seek an off-ramp.

4 - Iran open the hormuz straight.

But then again, it could keep going insanely high if the war intensify.

Again, you have the final say. But I would advise you chill and don't make a move now. Just keep circling around it like a lion intimidating its prey.

How are you, bro? Just discussing ETFs to dive in with my friends.
Your friend is right. Buy oil related ETF if any. But sadly, most stock market globally are trending down.

I laugh when people here on Nairaland say, war is affecting Nigeria stock market.

Nigeria stocks market isn't affected by the middle East war because Nigeria stocks is dominated by local retail investors.

For your foreign portfolio; If you have access to buy Russian oil ETF, that's where the money is now. I wish i have access to a platform to enable me access Russia trading ETFs.

Other than oil; don't buy anything for now.

Wait until Trump fully commits to this war by putting boots on the ground and going into Iran or if he will seek an off-ramp.

The reason is: you can't just be buying anything any how now, the market globally is thrown into turmoil and confusion, wait it out till Brent Crude reaches it's peak. Even precious metals like gold is loosing rapidly, I warned you against it when you first showed me your portfolio but you went ahead to buy into it.

Hold on for now, global market is chaotic now.

Will respond on this much later...my brain isn't booting my favorite discusssion international relations at the moment

Lemme reserve this space
lol it's geo-politics not international relations but it's necessary you stay informed if you want to win in the stock market space long time.

I dabbled into geo-politics since 2019, ever since, it has made the world look like a small place for me to mentally grasp. And it's fun because it makes you understand Game theory, world economies and macros.

Fun fact: one story that still sound crazy to me in all years of listening to goe-politics is the story of how Mao Zadong travelled to Russia to meet Stalin for biletaral talk.

When he arrived at Russia, it took him 3 weeks to finally meet Stalin at Stalin Dacher residence. Crazy because Mao Zadong overthrew and chased away previous China rulers from China to now Taiwan before he took over power, only to be treated like that by Stalin.

US is gradually reaching that point
Right now they have no choice than to put boot on ground. If Iran continue to block strait of homuz, the US & NATO will have no choice than to invade Iran. That will be the only solution with the way things are going. Iran is a stubborn country & will not easily give up, the US & Israel will never allow Iran to continue with their nuclear program, at least not for now. If Iran continue to block strait of homuz, US will be forced to go hard on Iran which seem inevitable at this point.
The mood in Kremlin and in Beijing will be very high and elated once U.S commits to this war and U.S can only commit to the war by calling in tens of thousands of troops, Not mere 5000 assault marines squad.

5000 marines were only sent to seize karga Island or other Island near the strait.

Myself, I can't wait for the U.S to fully commit to the war and truly face a real war since WW2.

Iran doesn't need to win, it just have to survive and if it can do that while pinning down down the U.S in war of attrition.

Trump will get impeached during the mid term election.

All my analysis is based on Game Theory and historical patterns. So myself, Putin and Xi will be looking at it plays out.

The moment boots on the ground is justifiable by USA that's the beginning of the end for Iran from my perspective.

If I were Iran, would come to the discussion table but with 1 condition- freedom to continue my nuclear program, but will allow monitoring by a 3rd party.

Iran holds better chips now, its just best to play the right cards now before there is a valid reason for full invasion
Boot on the ground is the worst case scenario for the U.S.

You don't win war with mere boots on the ground, you win war with uninterrupted supply lines. This is why the U.S has not committed to putting boots on the ground. Because logistically, it will be nightmare for them. Iran already hit USS Abraham Lincoln with drone, so Aircraft carrier can come close at all and U.S has still not achieved air superiority over Iran air space because my man Vladimir Vladimirmorich Putin quickly sent Iran S400 air defenses system via the Caspian sea 2 weeks ago. Massive shout out and props to Putin

U.S cannot successfully invade Iran which is larger than Europe with mere 5 thousand Marines being sent to the middle East. When U.S invaded Iraq, they went in with 10,000 troops, but Iran is 3 times larger then Iraq. Iran IRGC soldiers are well prepared and over 1 million plus the terrain is in their favor which is why in the battle of Iraq and Iran, the Iraq couldn't capture Iran.

Trump shouldn't has started this war, of course, he was lured into it by Nathanyahu — but that was a massive miscommunication only because they had the perfect opportunity to take out the Ayatollah.

This is a battle of survival for Iran, existential battle. But for Trump, it's a war of choice. And keep in mind;

Do you know Iran isn't Arab?

Iran is Persia, they only changed their name to Iran during the era of first World war.

Go read the history of Persia going to War and go read the history of U.S wars.

U.S has never won a war since the second war, it only go in to topple regime of countries. Vietnam gave them a good fight, they fled. Even that WW2 was won by the Soviet Union because Soviet captured Berlin first.

Much respect to General Zhukov of the Soviet Union, the General who got to Hitler first.

U.S is an Empire if Lies and will do anything to maintain that Empire which was built by petrodollar and moreon Doctrine.

Why does Nato exist?

To fight Russia? Why? Because Russia are Slavics who knows nothing but to fight wars.

In Europe, when it comes to fashion, it's France, when it comes to Food, it's Italy but when it comes to war, it's the Russians.

This is why U.S will ever consider Russia as an event and threat to its hegemony, same with China for their economical dominance.

Nobody loves this U S getting stuck in a long way more than Putin and Xi. Shout out to those wise men trying to challenge the rule base order to create a multipolar world.

Fidelity (I can buy easily at 19n but the continuous downward trend since the day of their all time high is my reason for holding on)

UBA as well but I do not align with their 46.60 naira. Tried buying at 45 this week but no luck.

Wanting to tie some cash here before dividend gets declared

Also, there have been rumors or possibilities of another recapitalization threshold any thoughts around this
Both Fidelity and UBA are still weak from the February bull run. Don't waste your time on them for now. However UBA attempted to begin recovery last week but the market lacked volume.

I can guarantee you of one bank stock for next week.

Access holding, accumulate that stock and smile next week.

It's in everyone's interest for a mutual agreement btw the waring parties. But I still envisage some more bombings by USA & Israel to force Iran to the negotiation table
If bombing won war, Russia would have won Ukraine war, WW2 wouldn't have required the intervention of multiple allies to take on one Hitler.

The war will be won by who holds the most leverage. Iran currently holds the most leverage that's why Trump is mostly making decisions out of frustration because he doesn't have leverage.

I feel the war has its impact, also the bull season is easing. Companies with strong fundamentals are the best bet for investors till another big bull season starts again

Silver is actually a better option and very stable investment. Many people don't pay attention to silver due to it being seen in the public as the junior to Gold and diamonds

I added silver, gold, and vector semiconductor ETFs. Kindly check the attachment below. I am not interested in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. They requested my TIN in Nigeria, and my Nigerian passport was verified by placing my mobile phone on my passport, and instantly all my details popped up in the app. Basically, I was amazed.
so far so good, you have been strategic in your choice. Very strategic.

Gold and Silver are more conservative instruments and have only have been experiencing price volitility since the timeline of (Russian Ukraine war - Brics currency discussions - U.S Balloning debt - Trump Tariffing the world and lastly US/Isreal attack on Iran)

Gold and silver ETF and more defensive than aggressive for building wealth so expect current growth to slow down once most geo-political tension dies down. (Best for preserving wealth)

Semiconductor ETF is good choice due to the ongoing AI race. But concerns are recently in the news as regards if AI is a bubble like in the case of the dot com bubble, if AI turns out to be a bubble, your ETF will crash and loose value overnight and might not recover.

I assume you don't want anything to do with the USD based investment probably due to 30% withholding Tax hence the reason they asked for your TIN.

My brother na there the money and rest of mind dey.

For example, look up U.S Real estate and Reit EFT, buy into that for peace of mind, disregard the Tax it will cost you, you are investing for a long time. Even during COVID when the world economy came to a stop, U.S Reit and real estate ETF were still consistently paying.

In conclusion, You have made strategic choices which is good (precious metals & Semiconductors) but I am recommending you diversify to U.S ETF in real estate for peace of mind.

Hello House,

Please enlighten us. Since most of these equities usually return around 30% to 51%, I noticed that GT Equity did about 57% last year, while ARM did about 55%. Most of them have already done more than 25% this year alone, which means only about 25% to 35% may be left for the rest of the year.

So it seems likely that more red days could still come.

My question is: since most of these equities have already done almost 50% in just about three months, is it still advisable to invest in equities now, or would it be better to relax with MMF until next year and then invest in equities starting January 1?
The bitter truth is you should pray to see red days because money is made in the zig zag movement of price action in the market.

Red days is essential otherwise, even your barber and shoe maker will all be investing in stocks/equities untill it becomes a bubble and burst in the most violent way, so red days are good days indirectly.

Now to your question: The reason why the market is 25% - 30% up is because institutional money entered the market last month, so if you have pension fund somewhere, chances are managers of that pension fund bought stocks last month.

Now if those conservatives pension guys bought stocks, ask yourself; why should I be scared to invest now if the most conservative investors in the country are the once providing liquidity to the market?

Institutional money only made the market stronger and a sign of more green days in the future, this current red which is not red enough for my liking (because it's mere profit taking and not real correction) is a blessing for people looking to enter now or any time the market turns red again.

Rosenior had a role to play in Chelsea loss.

Why wait that late to begin to make changes. Palmer clearly wasn't performing, the right thing to do was to bring in Gernacho and send Neto to Palmer flank and take off Palmer.

Then Garnacho and Neto should have overload Psg defenses with crosses and feeding Jao Pedro because Jao Pedro wasn't getting enough of the ball, he was always drifting back to mid field. This would have worked because Psg was weak at the back, they are not coordinated in their defense.

Chelsea keeper lacked confidence to play out from the back, clearly not different from Sanchez, he is even worse than Sanchez.

What type of miracle want to happen at Stamford bridge to overturn 3 goals deficit now?

Chelsea is out of this champions league competition. So sad.
