Nice feedback. You seem aware.

You should at least get one application approved for you. Best wishes...

advanceDNA:
These are latest tuition cost for Sept 2017 entry..I applied for a few pple last December, I even apply for scholarship for those with 2:1....its just information naaaa..all on the Internet for ur viewing pleasure.u'll be surprised to know some pple don't know how to navigate the Internet even as graduates..i charge a little change to help them check these information apply for them after they give me all their credentials. u'll be surprised some of these pple even have CGPA of 3.5 to 3.8 even 4.0...not really a crime though..thet are not just tech savvy....I just assisted a lady to pay her application fee at University of manitoba.so I know the tution fee.....and so many other tution fee of University in Canada cos I was looking for the cheapest and the one with some level of tuition waivers if full scholarship which is usually too competitive aint available.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by BeingGabriel: 3:16pm On Jan 09, 2017
how current is this your tuition cost implications?

advanceDNA:
The cheapest school in Canada in university of northern British colombia.tuition is less than 4000 Canadian dollars.however applications have closed for 2017 entry...u can apply for 2018/2019 entry now.
Next is University of manitoba..its not as cheap as the one above...tution is 10,000 Canadian dollars dats about N2.250million...I love this school so much cos Nigeria is listed among the countries English proficiency test is exempted for.
Goodluck

There are other cheap schools..like simon Fraser University., victoria University both with tution around 5400 cad...dats around 1milion plus...but u must have toefl or ielts..and application fee is a bit high..around 147dollars

Nice one bro!

I guess you have your plan B post-master's sha. Not sure Norway is like Canada as per residency after schooling.

Kulex:
For all those wondering whether applicants with low CGPA's could be admitted, I think it would only take a miracle for a below 2-1 degree to get into any Masters program in Norway. Your surest bet is a 2-1.
I was the only Nigerian that made it to UiT in Autumn 2016 as an international student, and I look forward to having more of my people here next year.
By the way, I still believe that all your questions have been answered on this thread. Go through it diligently and get informed.
Good luck pals!

Lol, that was really funny!

mantleguy:
The amount should be equivalent of NOK103950 in naira.

As at today's exchange rate, it is 3,920,000 naira

Ps: Norway is technically offering everyone scholarship. I mean every human being in a public Norwegian University on earth is already on Scholarship. Cos they don't charge fees to you.

I wonder what other scholarship you are looking for.

GTB has different threshold for different currency. It depend on the supply and demand. I CAD=244NGN; 1USD=321. Max for POS/Online Transaction is 100USD, 360CAD and 130EURO. It depend which you are doing. Regards,
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by BeingGabriel: 2:53pm On Nov 07, 2016
Hi,
Does that mean 360 CAD = $100? GTB says their limit per month on Mastercard is $100. Please confirm this and the exchange rate too.

klawaaa:
many banks refused to sell due to the CBN condition (don't sell more than 5NGN above/below official rate). GTB only permit their Mastercard naira debit cards which you can have access to 360CAD max per month. 1CAD=244NGN

Hello @penitential,

As per UNB, did you post your statement of purpose on the portal during your application? I noticed it did not appear, maybe because not all courses require it.

Abeg!!! I did my admission myself and I got admission into four different school- dalhouise university , UNB, Algonquin, Conestoga, na TRV be the real issue, admission is the easiest.

Yea, may I send u an email?

sirRiddy:
Yeah, I am in the CS PhD program.
I do not mind the questions at all.
Are you interested in grad school or in grad school?
EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by BeingGabriel: 7:28pm On Oct 18, 2016
Oh, OK. STEM?

Sorry about the barrage of questions.

sirRiddy:
Funding, K-State had the best offer. GPA was 3.28/4 which is 3.6/5 on our scale.
EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by BeingGabriel: 7:20pm On Oct 18, 2016
wow! Deep bants there. But your undergrad GPA must have been >4.0, right?

And with that score...why Kansas State?

sirRiddy:
K-State. 162Q 154V 4.5AWA
I literally abandoned verbal about two weeks to my test cos I felt continued
prep on the section was pointless, which I think paid off for me.
Most of us work too hard and less smart.
EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by BeingGabriel: 6:49pm On Oct 18, 2016
I don't know @sirRiddy, but it seems you're a great guy. And if I may ask, at what sch are you doing your graduate studies? (I assume you are) and how did your GRE scores fare, going by your comments a while ago?

sirRiddy:
Hi ma'am.
My submission came from a discussion I had with a faculty on Monday morning.
He admitted that the Quant section of the test is the most useful factor when
assessing STEM applicants from third world countries apart fom research experience. They already know your grasp of writing and speaking
skills is sub par given that you are not a native speaker even though you had a 29 on TOEFL, they also
expect a horrible paper from you filled with poor grammar. Of what use is a 158 V score for a STEM
application if you cannot make at worst a 160 in quant? I have a colleague from China who just started learning
English less than a year ago and he is a funded PhD student here. His quant score is 168 and his verbal
is 145. Worst still, his speaking score is 18. But he was still accepted. Of course there is something special
about him, he has a co-authored paper in a top AI conference and has reasonable research experience. He teaches
a lab. Yeah you heard that right, he is a teaching assistant. It takes him like five minutes to speak few sentences
as he has to repeat them and sometimes spell.

I agree with you about the need for 155 plus to stand a chance at top 20 schools. But the reality is that
half of us will not get into those schools. It is not that we are stupid, at least not entirely, but we have
horrible UG GPA. We sabi as e go for our unis here na. The bitter truth is if you are not someone who
is an avid reader 'latile' or very versed with the test, your propensity to improve on verbal is not very auspicious.

My rant summarily is that Quant is way more important than Verbal or even AWA for STEM peeps.
It is easier for us to shoot up our scores there than spend needless hours on Verbal with little or no
change in the scores. For AWA, I think Kaplan takes care of it neatly.

Wish you luck in your test, ma'am

You have spoken well again!

shinarambo1:
No i came here through the federal skilled workers program towards the end of the last decade. I have just one friend that came through express entry so far. He came from the US after the completion of his msc in public health at havard uni and he took up a research job in ontario 3months ago. He was formerlly a medical doc from Nigeria. Nigerians are doing well here. Alot of engineers, docs, pharms, accountants e.t.c My family doc is a Nigerian. Over 50% of the doctors in the city i work outside my home provinvee are nigerians. We havent penetrated here like the UK, but we would eventually get there just like the indians here. I would still advise anyone hoping of studying abroad to consider canada, australia or the US. If that fails, then they can try elsewhere. Success would find you anywhere if you are good. That is my philosophy of life.
TravelRe: Before Applying Or Coming To The Uk For Studies: Beware Of This by BeingGabriel: 7:18pm On Oct 11, 2016
Hello @shinarambo1, you seem to be spot-on, I guess. Just a little question, did u recently win the express entry slot? And how has it been thus far?
shinarambo1:
Nope. I had just over 2 years in Nigeria, plus another 1 year in the UK. It's Electrical, but I have a Pharmacist friend that applied at the same time I did. All he had was a pre-Nysc 1 year internship and 1 year NYSC experience from Nigeria+a Uk msc degree.
TravelRe: Before Applying Or Coming To The Uk For Studies: Beware Of This by BeingGabriel: 7:03pm On Oct 11, 2016
Quite an interesting read, I must say. But no mention was made of the 12 months period you mentioned. Plus, why is the 4 months short period complaint prevalent among the grads?

dustydee:
Here's something worth reading. I hear people say the UK gives you only 4 months to look for a job when in fact it is 12 months + additional 4 months after your studies.

But UNBC is a small school which offers mostly undergraduate degrees. So, by default, one would think you were talking about UBC.

vinci500:
If you mean UNBC, yes. However I don't know so much about UBC.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by BeingGabriel: 5:35pm On Oct 10, 2016
Oh OK. That's fine.

Quick one: UBC stresses on high GPA, right? @vinci500
Riddeek:
I also asked him the same wen i first read it

Waiver means from the school's assessment he doesn't need to take IELTS/TOEFL, the Dean accepted his proposal that he already has the level of English language required for graduate studies, hence that requirement is "waived" for him.

Though you will need supporting documents for that, from your lecturer(referee) to consent to your English language skills

Congrats!!! But what happens to your 'better option'?
Crystaleyeh:
Hello everyone,
Like almost every new person says, I have been a silent reader for months now and I am here to share my experience for someone to benefit from it.
Here's my profile:
I am a pgc applicant ( lambton college)
Applied : June 16 ( paper route)
Sponsor : mother
Closing balance : 6.5 million and other landed documents
Didnot pay school fees
Travel history: Canada, us and uk
I have family ties in Canada and here in Nigeria.
I attached every required document cic requires then I included my transcript, a reference letter from a prof i worked with in the US ( during my IT) and I was waiting for their response, my application got to its 9th week when I got another admission to a school in Ireland for masters ( the Ireland system of immigration is almost the same as the Canadian system in which you can stay after school). It was a better option for me so i decided to withdraw my application.
Spent 2 weeks reaching out to cic to send back my passport as I got another offer. Sent a CSE, emails ( both I and my mum), placed phone calls, Twitted at them ( where they told me to send another cse), still got no reply and no passport back. Until suddenly on the 28th of August, my agent ( I used an agent) got the medical call email and send it to me.
We still sent them more emails that we were not interested and they should send the passport back. Still got no response from cic.
Then I was advised by the agent to just go for the medicals and I did then they sent an email on the 8th of sept stating that they already called me for medicals, so I should please proceed for medicals.
I already did, so I did not reply the email or send another one.
I used the children's hospital which is at Raymond Njoku Lagos and they sent my result in 3-4 working days. And today the 15th of September I got a mail from my agent that my visa has been approved.
If you have any enquiry or questions pls feel free to ask.
TravelRe: Nigerians In Oslo, Norway by BeingGabriel: 2:14pm On Sep 15, 2016
Hello Kunle, can we talk via email?
Kulex:
I've lived in Tromsø, MSc in Tech and Safety at UIT for one month and it's been awesome. The weather isn't as treacherous as I expected given our closeness to the Arctic, but it's still summer anyway LOL.
Thanks to all those who took out time to contribute to this forum from page one till date. And I wish to support the suggestions of my colleagues that newcomers should read through all the pages of this thread and google information regarding their choice of institutions before asking specific questions. It's absurd to see guys asking questions that were already answered a few comments before. It doesn't show seriousness, which you can all agree with me is an essential recipe for success during the taxing period of residence permit application and studying afterwards.

However, to clarify some doubts , I got an evening job which could take care of my monthly bills after 2 weeks of arriving in Tromsø. I was quite lucky though. The average waiting period is 6 months. But I think a good relationship with old working/schooling Africans/Nigerians in your town of residence is your surest bet.

Goodluck folks!
