This is really weird. Where I come from we don't say thank you to our parents after eating except to the person that served you. I remember years ago when I was younger, I went to a friend's house and heard her thanking her mum after a meal. I thought it was cool and started thanking my mum also, but she ignored me whenever I thanked her! After a week or so, she told me to stop thanking her after eating as it sounds strange to her for a child to thank a parent after eating. And I come from a perfectly structured and normal family where I was raised right to always say 'please' and 'thank you' . For guys shouting it's lack of respect, remember this: culture differs.
